I hereby release the City of Newark, its officers, agents, employees, or volunteers from and against any and all claims, cost liabilities, expenses, or judgments, including attorney’s fees and court costs arising from my (my minor child’s/ward’s) participation in the program/ activity or any illness/injury resulting there from, and hereby agree to any and all such claims, whether caused by negligence or otherwise.

The City of Newark reserves the right to photograph and film facilities, activities, and program participants for potential use in our marketing efforts, which may include, but is not limited to, brochures, flyers, social media and the City’s website. All marketing materials will remain the property of the City of Newark.

Refund Policy: If you wish to cancel your registration, credits or refunds are possible only if you notify us at least five (5) business days before an activity begins. A charge of $15 or 50% of the registration fee (whichever is less) applies to refunds. Account credits expire after one year.

Swim Lesson Class Refund Policy: Customers have only 24 hours from the time of registration in which to request a cancellation, refund (all refunds have a $15.00 processing fee), or transfer (based on class availability) for swim lessons. After the 24 hour period, we will not honor any requests for class transfers, cancellations, refunds, or credits.

Late Pick-Up Fee: The fee of $1 per minute ($5 minimum) will be charged for participants not picked up by the scheduled ending time.

Designed to introduce your child to their first experience in a structured environment providing an opportunity for sharing and playing with other children. Activities include: indoor and outdoor play, arts and crafts, storytelling, music and movement, introduction to colors, shapes, numbers, and letters. Children must be fully potty trained (no pull-ups), able to separate from parents and fully participate in class. *Pay at least $50/monthly session deposit, save your credit card information on your Newark Recreation Account, and remaining balance will be auto-charged one week in advance to start of each monthly session. For this payment option, you must register in person at the Newark Senior Center.

NEWARK YOUTH FISHING IN THE CITY

Saturday November 6 8:00 – 11:00am The Boat House, Chelsea Dr. at Lakeshore Park in Newark

Get “hooked” on fishing for life! Children learn basic instruction on knot tying, casting, how to bait the hook and fish handling techniques. Bring your own pole or use one of ours. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Adults are asked not to fish during the youth fishing time. The lake will be planted with fish for the event.

California fish and game laws will be enforced and Fishing is limited to youth 8-16 years old during the fishing in the Cities program.

DANCE IN A PARADE

Be a part of the award winning Betty Gentry Dance Program Parade Team!

Participants will learn a forward moving dance to perform during the parade route. Participants must have previous dance experience! Students must be able to attend all of the classes in order to participate in the parade. Specific parade information will be distributed the first day of class.

Newark Day’s Parade- Saturday September 18, 2021

Registration deadline: 9/1 by 5pm Rehearsals: Thursdays, September 2, 9, 16 from 5:00-7:00pm Rehearsals will consist of warm-ups, learning of choreography, and continuous rehearsing of the forward moving choreography. Dance technique will not be taught in this performance only class.

All children must have a parent participant in the water with the child. We recommend the same parent throughout the session. The instructor will lead the parents through a variety of skills to teach their child. Parent is the primary instructor for their child and is required to be in the water with the child in a swimsuit. Children must wear a swim diaper under their suit. Class is designed to get the child comfortable in the water and to begin work on entry-level swim readiness skills.

These courses are designed to help adults and teens meet their swim lesson needs from beginner to advance and focusing on the individual needs of each student.

SWIM LESSONS REFUND/MAKEUP POLICY:

The Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center provides the highest quality of swim instruction available through the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program.

We look at swim instruction as a necessary life skill and want to make swimming an enjoyable lifelong activity for you and your family. Lessons are tailored to age and skill within a set level system. If after reading the level descriptions, you are unsure which level your child should be in, please schedule a swim level assessment. You can do so by emailing Aquatic Coordinator Stacy Burton stacy.burton@newark.org

COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS:

All 5 year old and younger swimmers need to have a parent or guardian in the water with them.

No one will be allowed to remain on the pool deck if not participating in a swim lesson. Only participating children and parents will be allowed to enter the pool deck. Swimmers who do not require an adult in the water will have a completed waiver on file if under the age of 18.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES:

Registration deadlines are firm. We will not accept any registrations after the deadline has passed.

It is best to register in advance to ensure class is available.

Due to the popularity of our program, we have a fairly strict refund policy. You have 24 hours from the time of registration in which to request a refund (all refunds have a $15 processing fee), or transfer to another time/ session (based on class availability). After 24 hours, there are no refunds given. Transfer may be granted up to 3 business days prior to the session starting if there is space available. Transfers have a $15 processing fee.

Please note: There are no makeup classes and/or credits/refunds for any classes missed due to accident, injury, illness, or personal scheduling conflicts. Doctor’s notes will not be accepted.

SWIM LESSON PROFICIENCY:

Students must have a specific mastery of the skills/proficiency before moving to the next level as well as meet all the exit skill requirements . Proficienc y is determined by staff. We reserve the right to move your child from the class you signed up for to one that is more developmentally appropriate. All of our group swim classes are 45 minutes in length each day. Private lessons are 30 minutes.

SWIM LESSONS/AQUATICS PRIVATE LESSONS These are a 1 on 1 individualized instruction for those looking for a more personalized approach. These lessons are completely focused on working on what you want to work on. All children 5 and under need to have a parent or guardian in the water with them. If a guardian is the water the guardian must be over the age of 18. These lessons are 30 minutes long.

SHALLOW WATER LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION TRAINING

Through online, classroom and in water training, earn your American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification (up to 5 feet deep), including First Aid, CPR, AED and Emergency Oxygen Administration, valid for 2 years.

Due to the nature of the course, there will be training situations when participants will come in close contact with other participants. Below are some of the many safety precautions that will be observed throughout the training course.

• Face coverings will be worn at all times unless in the water.

• Social distance will be observed. When social distance is not possible, face coverings and/or additional personal protective equipment will be worn.

• Training manikins will be used whenever possible to promote social distancing.

• Equipment will be labeled and assigned to participants for use throughout the course.

• Class size has been reduced and participants may be assigned into smaller groups.

• Hand washing facilities and hand sanitizer will be readily available.

• All participants will be required to pass a health screening prior to the start of each class session.

Online sessions must be completed with a certificate of completion brought to the first day of in person sessions.

Prerequisites: Participants must be able to swim 300 yards non-stop using freestyle and breaststroke, recover a 10lb weight from the water and tread water for 2 minutes with no hands prior to the first day of in person sessions. Swim tests will be scheduled after registration closes.

through a partnership between the City of Newark and the City of Fremont’s Human Services Department.

Eligibility Requirements for RIDE-ON TRI-CITY! transportation services: •Newark residents who are 70 years of age or older; OR, •Newark residents who are unable to use public transportation independently due to a disability or disabling health condition.

RIDE-ON TRI-CITY! registrants can use the following: Ride-Hailing Service:

Subsidized rides through Lyft for participants with a smartphone or participants who do not have a smartphone can get subsidized Lyft or Uber rides through GoGo Grandparent’s Call Center. Participants pay for the first $4 of their trip and up to $16 of additional trip costs will be subsidized.

Taxi Service:

Subsidized curb-to-curb taxi rides in the Tri-City area using a taxi voucher. Taxi vouchers cost $4 each and subsidize up to $16 of taxi meter fare.

Wheelchair-Accessible Van Service:

Participants requiring special door-to-door assistance can get subsidized wheelchair-accessible van rides in Tri-City area. Participants pay $4 per one-way trip, using a pre-paid voucher.

CLIPPER CARD Workshops

Learn about Clipper, the all-in-one transit card, the first Thursday of every month from 10:00-11:00am at the Clark W. Redeker Newark Senior Center. This FREE workshop will teach you all the ins and outs of using Clipper. Seniors 65 years of age and older can apply for a FREE senior Clipper Card at the end of the workshop (must bring proof of age with you).
