Refund Policy: If you wish to cancel your registration, credits or refunds are possible only if you notify us at least five (5) business days before an activity begins. A charge of $15 or 50% of the registration fee (whichever is less) applies to refunds. Account credits expire after one year.

Swim Lesson Class Refund Policy: Customers have only 24 hours from the time of registration in which to request a cancellation, refund (all refunds have a $15.00 processing fee), or transfer (based on class availability) for swim lessons. After the 24 hour period, we will not honor any requests for class transfers, cancellations, refunds, or credits.

Late Pick-Up Fee: The fee of $1 per minute ($5 minimum) will be charged for participants not picked up by the scheduled ending time.

NEWARK YOUTH FISHING IN THE CITY Saturday April 2 8:00 – 11:00 am

Location: The Boat House, Chelsea Dr. at Lakeshore Park in Newark Get “hooked” on fishing for life!

Children learn basic instruction on knot tying, casting, how to bait the hook and fish handling techniques. Bring your own pole or use one of ours. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents are asked not to fish during the youth fishing time. The lake will be planted with fish for the event. California fish and game laws will be enforced and Fishing is limited to youth 8-16 years old during the fishing in the Cities program.

SWIM LESSONS The Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center provides the highest quality of swim instruction available through the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program.

We look at swim instruction as a necessary life skill and want to make swimming an enjoyable lifelong activity for you and your family. Lessons are tailored to age and skill within a set level system.

COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS:

All 5 year old and younger swimmers need to have a parent or guardian in the water with them. No one will be allowed to remain on the pool deck if not participating in a swim lesson. Only participating children and parents will be allowed to enter the pool deck. Swimmers who do not require an adult in the water will have a completed waiver on file if under the age of 18.

REFUND/MAKEUP POLICY:

Due to the popularity of our program, we have a fairly strict refund policy. You have 24 hours from the time of registration in which to request a refund (all refunds have a $15 processing fee), or transfer to another time/ session (based on class availability).

After 24 hours, there are no refunds given. Transfer may be granted up to 3 business days prior to the session starting if there is space available. Transfers have a $15 processing fee.

Please note: There are no make-up classes and/ or credits/refunds for any classes missed due to accident, injury, illness, or personal scheduling conflicts. Doctor’s notes will not be accepted.

SWIM LESSON PROFICIENCY:

Students must have a specific mastery of the skills/ proficiency before moving to the next level as well as meet all the exit skill requirements.

Proficiency is determined by staff. We reserve the right to move your child from the class you signed up for to one that is more developmentally appropriate.

SWIM LESSONS/AQUATICS

COMPETITIVE SWIM - Ages 13-18 years. No spectators allowed on pool deck.

This course is designed for those who have mastered the 4 main competitive strokes of Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Backstroke and are able to swim at least 100 yards continuously. Participants will be lead in a structured swim workout environment. Swim workouts are intended to increase muscular strength, aerobic endurance, stroke technique, and build overall fitness.

ADULT AND TEEN SWIM LESSONS - Ages 13+ yrs

These courses are designed to help adults and teens meet their swim lesson needs from beginner to advance and focusing on the individual needs of each student.

PRIVATE LESSONS

These are a 1 on 1 individualized instruction for those looking for a more personalized approach. These lessons are completely focused on working on what you want to work on. All children 5 and under need to have a parent or guardian in the water with them. If a guardian is the water, the guardian must be over the age of 18. These lessons are 30 minutes long.

TEEN/ADULTS SHALLOW WATER LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION TRAINING

Through online, classroom and in water training, earn your American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification (up to 5 feet deep), including First Aid, CPR, AED and Emergency Oxygen Administration, valid for 2 years. Due to the nature of the course, there will be training situations when participants will come in close contact with other participants. Below are some of the many safety precautions that will be observed throughout the training course.

• Face coverings will be worn at all times unless in the water.

• Social distance will be observed. When social distance is not possible, face coverings and/or additional personal

protective equipment will be worn.

• Training manikins will be used whenever possible to promote social distancing.

• Equipment will be labeled and assigned to participants for use throughout the course.

• Class size has been reduced and participants may be assigned into smaller groups.

• Hand washing facilities and hand sanitizer will be readily available.

• All participants will be required to pass a health screening prior to the start of each class session.

Online sessions must be completed with a certificate of completion brought to the first day of in person sessions.

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim 300 yards non-stop using freestyle and breaststroke with breath control, recover a 10lb weight from the water and tread water for 2 minutes with no hands prior to the first day of in person sessions. Swim tests are scheduled after registration closes.

Eligibility Requirements for RIDE-ON TRI-CITY! transportation services: •Newark residents who are 70 years of age or older; OR, •Newark residents who are unable to use public transportation independently due to a disability or disabling health condition.

RIDE-ON TRI-CITY! registrants can use the following: Ride-Hailing Service:

Subsidized rides through Lyft for participants with a smartphone or participants who do not have a smartphone can get subsidized Lyft or Uber rides through GoGo Grandparent’s Call Center. Participants pay for the first $4 of their trip and up to $16 of additional trip costs will be subsidized.

Taxi Service:

Subsidized curb-to-curb taxi rides in the Tri-City area using a taxi voucher. Taxi vouchers cost $4 each and subsidize up to $16 of taxi meter fare.

Wheelchair-Accessible Van Service:

Participants requiring special door-to-door assistance can get subsidized wheelchair-accessible van rides in Tri-City area. Participants pay $4 per one-way trip, using a pre-paid voucher.
