Howl-O-Ween

Join us for a spooktacular time at our annual Howl-O-Ween event! Featuring costume contests, giveaways, vendors, a free photobooth, a pet altar in honor of Día de los Muertos, and more! Show up with your furry companion dressed to impress for a chance to place in our costume contest! Costume contest categories include: Most Creative, Best Duo or Group, and Best Overall Dogs must remain on leash at all times during the event, unless inside the NewBark Dog Park designated areas.

Floating Pumpkin Patch

Bring the whole family for an afternoon of splashing, pumpkin fun, and festive memories at our annual Floating Pumpkin Patch! This event invites participants to swim among floating pumpkins, create themed arts and crafts, and more. Best of all, you get to go home with your very own pumpkin! Costumes are welcome, but keep in mind swim-safe attire is required in the pool!

Annual Tree Lighting

Start off the holiday season with us at the annual Tree Lighting Event! Silent Splash Swim Nights

Dive into fun at our Inclusive Silent Splash Swim Night! This sensory-friendly adaptive program offers a quieter swimming environment with activities such as sensory stations, arts and crafts, and more. A parent or guardian must accompany each child in the water (one adult per child), and all participants must register and pay. Betty Gentry’s Fancy Feet

Be a part of the award-winning Betty Gentry Dance Program Parade Team! Participants will learn a forward-moving dance to perform during the parade route. Must have previous dance experience and be able to attend all of the classes in order to participate in the parade. Specific parade information will be distributed the first day of class.

Rehearsals will consist of warm-ups, learning of choreography, and continuous rehearsing of the forward moving choreography. Dance technique will not be taught in this performance only class.

Golden State Academy Coed Basketball League

The City of Newark Recreation & Community Services Department, in partnership with the Warriors & Valkyries, offers an exciting instructional basketball league. Players will develop their skills through game play while building confidence, teamwork, discipline, and respect for the game. Every player will play at least half of each game and will receive a reversible Golden State Academy jersey. Mandatory player evaluations: January 1/9 & 1/16 Scrimmage, league schedules, and jersey distribution: 1/23

Golden State Academy Little Shooters Coed Basketball League

Skateboarding 101

Rob Skate Academy

A super fun, new skateboard program designed for kids of all ages. No skill requirements needed as the Rob Skate Academy has the best professionally trained staff in the industry to handle all skill levels and keep your child safe. KENDO is rooted in the sword fighting techniques of the ancient Japanese warrior “SAMURAI.” Martial art conditions the body and mind through traditional physical and spiritual training, ignites continuous self-improvement, and forges a warrior spirit to conquer adversity.

Beginner: This class is for those who have never practiced Kendo or need to brush up the fundamental movements of Kendo. The beginner class focuses on the basics and understanding the characteristics of kendo. A non-refundable material fee of $45 is due to the instructor at the first-class meeting. Intermediate/Advanced: This class is for both those who have recently graduated from the beginner course and experienced kendo practitioners who are able to demonstrate proficiency in the fundamentals of KENDO. Banded Together Fitness

Ride-On Tri-City Travel Training

Ride-On Tri-City Travel Training teaches seniors and persons with disabilities how to use public transit through travel training workshops, individualized training, transit outings and access to Senior Clipper cards. Classroom training and field outings on bus and BART are combined to teach participants how to plan trips, read transit schedules, use a Clipper Card to pay fares, transfer between buses and BART and travel on transit safely. The Newark Swim Lesson Program provides the highest quality of swim instruction available. We look at swim instruction as a necessary life skill and want to make swimming an enjoyable lifelong activity for you and your family. Lessons are tailored to age and skill within a level. Remember not to compare your child’s progress with other swimmers as everyone learns at a different pace. Children are tested on the first day of each session and placed into the appropriate class level. We hope that you enjoy your swimming experience with us and welcome any of your comments or suggestions. Swim lessons are 25 minutes long, except for Adult and Competitive swim classes, which are 45 minutes.

Refund/Make-Up Policy:

Activity Refund Processing: Please note that a minimum of five (5) working days’ notice is required before the session begins. Refund requests have a $15 processing fee. Transferring enrollment to another session also incurs a $15 fee.

Please note: There will be no make-up classes, credits, or refunds for any missed classes due to accidents, injuries, illnesses, or personal scheduling conflicts.

Swim Lesson Registration Deadlines:

Registration deadlines are 72 hours before the session. We will not accept any registrations after the deadline has passed. It is best to register in advance to ensure your class is available.

Double Enrollment:

We do not allow enrolling for consecutive lessons in the same session period as this may prevent others from joining the program. Thank you for your cooperation.

6 month - 3 years

This interactive class is for parents and children ages 6 months - 3 years. The instructor will lead the parents through a variety of skills to teach their child. The parent is the primary instructor for their child and is required to be in the water with the child in a swimsuit. Children must wear a swim diaper under their suit. The class is designed to get the child acclimated in the water and to begin to work on entry-level swim readiness skills. Upon successful completion or age advancement the student will move into the preschool lesson program.

Preschool Instructor to student ratio is 1:4 to 1:6

3 - 5 years

This course offers swimming levels 1-3 for children ages 3-5 years. Children work on water exploration and adjustment skills such as bubble blowing, putting face in the water, and floating with support. They will progress to more advanced skills such as front crawl and back stroke. Instructor to student ratio is 1:4 to 1:6. Children who master level 3 or age up will move to a youth level class at the appropriate level to their ability.

Youth Instructor to student ratio is 1:6 to 1:8

6 - 12 years

This swim lesson program offers all swimming levels for children ages 6-12 years. Levels range from the first level in which students start to develop good attitudes and safe practices around the water all the way to Level 5 where students are swimming all the basic strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, Elementary backstroke, Sidestroke, and butterfly).

Adult/Teen Instructor to student ratio is 1:6.

This course is designed to help teens/adults ages 13 years and up meet their swim lesson needs from beginner to advance and focusing on the individual needs of each student. Classes are 45 minutes long.

Private Instructor to student ratio is 1:1.

Private lessons are full session based 1 on 1 individualized instruction for ages 3 years and up looking for a more personalized approach. These lessons are focused on individual goals and progression.

Skills Boost Private Instructor to student ratio is 1:1.

Skills boost private lessons are a single 25-minute private class that focuses on 1 to 2 skills for the student’s needs.

Competitive Swim Instructor to student ratio is 1:8.

This swim lessons is for ages 6-12 years who have successfully completed Youth Level 5 and is a pre-swim team program. This will be a 45-minute structured workout focusing on competitive swim training and correcting minor stroke form.
