Pagel is a member of P.E.O., D.A.R, and attends United Methodist Church.

“Raising my three children is the deepest honor of my life. I have been blessed to pastor several churches in Missouri and to lead a team to build the first food pantry in Moniteau County to help alleviate hunger and poverty,” Pagel said.

Betsy Curtis Betsy Curtis, of Annapolis, Md., has been a Lions Club member for four years and has held the office of vice-president. She has held multiple jobs/internships.

She worked as a Fitness Instructor at Curves, held a Human Resources internship with Murphy Family Ventures, was a Public Relations and Marketing assistant at Pittsburg State University, and was the Public Relations intern for the Vernon County/ Nevada Chamber of Commerce.

After graduating with her bachelor’s in 2008, she worked as an admission representative for Cottey College from 2008-10. In 2010, along with beginning work on her graduate degree and certification, she was hired as the director of marketing and community relations at Heartland Behavioral Health Services.

Aimee Meyer has been a Lions Club member since 2009. She has held the positions of Lion Tamer and Tale Twister and served three years on the Board of Directors.

Aimee is an entrepreneur. She works as a caterer with her family business, Count On Us Catering. Her family also owns a vending company, Crosstown Vending and she works part-time as the Business Development and Marketing Director for Hoffman Financial Resources.

Aimee is a Vernon County native. She graduated with honors from Cottey College in

master American Ballet theatre, The Bill Cosby Show; and a tech specialist for the University of Missouri Extension, partner Jwrayco, LLC. Her family includes husband, Gerard Bartlett; four children; and six grandchildren.

Her hobbies involve hand weaving and spinning wool.

Carroll-Bartlett is a member of University of Missouri Extension Council-Vernon County; Regional Council member of University of Missouri Extension-West Central Region; and Webmaster of Osage Spinners and Weavers of Kansas City, Mo. She attends All Saints Church and serves as the church webmaster and tech advisor.

Aimee is an active member of the Nevada Community. In addition to the Lions Club, Aimee serves on the board of directors for the NRMC Foundation. She recently joined the Cottey College Alumni Association Executive Board and she is the 2014 President of the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce.

Robert (Bob) Garton

Robert (Bob) Garton, lifelong resident of the Bronaugh/Mounville area, has been a Lions Club member for nine to 10 years.

He established his own farming business specializing in grain, hay and livestock and retired in 2002.

He is the owner of Garton Farms.

His family includes wife, Betty, of 54 years; two sons, Dr. Bryan Garton and his wife, Debbie, of Columbia, Mo., and Bradley Garton, of Vail, Colo.; and two grandsons, Joshua and Logan, of Columbia, Mo. He began snow skiing in 1965 and has skied every year since. He has traveled in all 50 states and several countries and enjoys visiting with people and reading.

Andrew Remington Andrew Remington, of Nevada, has been a Lions Club member for 19 years and has held, in the past, office of president, vice-president, and tail twister.

He worked for the Nevada Police Department and Vernon County Sheriff’s Department in law enforcement prior to

Public Water District Number One in Moundville; member of the Masonic Lodge; Abou Ben Adhem Shrine; Nevada Rotary Club; Habitat for Humanity Board; Nevada Regional Medical Center Foundation Board; Board of the Neal Senior Center; serves as a volunteer for the NRMC auxiliary; and member of Bronaugh United Methodist Church from a very early age.

He served as chairman of the administrative board and chairman of trustees, then transferred membership to the Nevada United Methodist Church in 1998.

He was named Lion of the Year for year 20102011 for his work with the mint project; and awarded the Degree of American Farmer in FFA. 1994, then joined the family business after that time and is now a real estate broker/owner at Curtis and Sons Inc. His family includes wife, Donetta; and daughters, Taylor, 16, and Molly, 7.

Remington received a bachelor’s from Missouri Southern in Criminal Justice and an associates in law enforcement.

He is the coach for the Nevada Dirt Dawgs (18 and under, girls’ fast pitch team); and No. 1 Top Producing Team or Agent for the Nevada Area (the majority of the last 19 years) per MLS awards.

Monte J. Curtis, of Nevada, has been a Lions Club member for 34 years and has held most offices, from Lions Tamer to President of Lions in 20082009. He currently serves as a Board Director.

He is a Real Estate Broker and property manager, auctioneer, director and chairman of Curtis & Sons Inc., and president of Curtis & Sons Insurance Agency and Realty Company.

Curtis is a second generation Lions Club member.

His father, a former Lions Club member, started in

the 1950s, and continued active in the organization through the late 1980s. His father also was president in the early 1960s. Curtis’ sons, Andy and JJ, are also Lions and both are following in the family tradition, as former presidents of Lions.

He enjoys flying and soloed on his 16th birthday and got his pilot’s license on his 18th birthday. Curtis is also fond of traveling the United States on his motorcycle. In 2012, he rode most of the United States and over half way to Alaska, until the snow turned him around. Having lucked out so far riding, pursuing the big cats.

Curtis attended school his entire life in the Nevada R-5 school system. He graduated in 1973.

Since then, he has been a graduate of the Missouri Auction School, in Kansas City, and have attended class at the University of Indiana, where he obtained his certified auctioneers institute designation. In July of 1992, he obtained his State of Missouri Real Estate Appraiser license.

Under the banner of this creed the 18th Missouri Club of Lions International was granted a charter on March 29, 1924, the charter being presented by Robert T. Ray. This club, with its 25 charter members, was led for the first year by Lions Robert W. Harding as president; and A. G. Smith, T. H. Shanks, Dr. Dean H. Phelps, Boyd Ewing and Allen V. Hays.

Since its founding, the club’s roster of presidents has included Max T. Aldrich, J. M. Atkinson, J. H. Bean, A. S. Bitner, Harold Coonrod, Dr. W. M. Davis, O. N. Eddlemon, C. H. Englebrecht, Finis Engleman, O. M. Flory, Allen F. Hays, Dr. W. E. Hoffman, Bo Isham, Don Kennedy, Lester B. Kesterson, George T. Lyons, Dr. F. L. Martin, Monty Matthews, the Rev. Charles Marrs, John Moss, Cecil Parks, Dr. Dean Phelps, Ken Postlethwaite, J. W. Reid, T. H. Shanks, A. G. Smith, Fred F. Todd and Jerry J. Vineyard.

Standing as milestones through the club’s history are certain accomplishments, fostered and successfully realized through the efforts of the membership. In 1925 the foremost project was the sponsorship of the subway bonds, making possible the build-

ing of the present subway at the eastern gateway to Nevada, meeting an urgent need for the alleviation of traffic hazards at the junction of railroad and highway.

The cultural life of Nevada was enhanced when in 1926 the Lions Club sponsored the appearance of the world-renowned soprano Madame Shumann-Heink.

In 1929, the Nevada Lions Club was honored through a charter member, Allen V. Hays, who was elected governor, representing all the Lions Clubs of Missouri.

Until state and national aid was made available for the rehabilitation of crippled children, this club contributed financial assistance to many stricken children of Vernon County, making it possible for them to receive treatment, including braces and corrective shoes.

The Nevada club, in cooperation with all Lions clubs of Missouri, supports the School for the Blind in St. Louis.

A keen interest in the athletic activities of the boys of Nevada High School was the invitation to the gala football banquets held for many years by the club. Further visible evidence of that interest may be seen on the plaque at Logan Stadium, which reads, “WPA Project sponsored by Nevada Lions Club.” This stadium was the scene of many of Nevada’s Centennial activities and served well for other large gatherings.

Looking to the future of Lionism and with the wish to inspire young men to civic pride, this club invites the junior and senior classes of Nevada

High School to select a Junior Lion to represent the school in meetings for each month of the year.

A delegate to Boys State from the junior class of the high school is sent each year, with expenses paid by the club.

At the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, the less fortunate of the community are remembered by the distribution of baskets of food and by the Teen Angel program, the latter providing gift bags of a variety of items.

At other intervals, shoes, clothing and eyeglasses have been provided.

Since the inception of the annual national “March of Dimes” campaign, this club has made the call for assistance one of the most important efforts of the year. On alternate years, the chairmanship of the Fund Drive has come from its membership and the “kick-off” auction has been held at a January meeting.

• To promote the principles of good government and good citizenship.

• To encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.

Nevada Lions Club provides services for community Nevada Lions Club members meet the needs of local communities and expand their services worldwide. The 1.35 million members of our volunteer organization in 206 countries and geographic areas are different in many ways, but share a core belief — community is what we make of it. A list of the local Nevada Lions Chapter accomplishments include, but are not limited to: • Collecting used eyeglasses (within the drop box in Walmart parking lot) to be redistributed to Lions Club International for refurbishment and allo-

cation to numerous disadvantaged populace.

• Providing Amblyopia, otherwise known as “lazy eye,” screenings for youth within our local school systems.

• Raising funds through providing multiple community events such as pancake breakfasts, concessions for the Vernon County Youth Rodeo & Little Britches Rodeo, Bunko for Blindness, etc.

• Distributing funds earned throughout the year in the form of scholarship dollars for local students, sponsorship dollars for community events and fundraisers, and donations

dispensed across various charitable organizations.

• Volunteering through the act of facilitating, staffing, and/or organization of charitable benefits such as the Teen Angel Program (providing predetermined disadvantaged families/ children with Christmas gifts), • Salvation Army bell-ringing, providing a booth at National Night Out, etc.

The Nevada Lions Club is an enthusiastic civic organization dedicated to achieving the common goal of sight preservation. In addition to the list above, the Nevada Lions

Club has an immeasurable amount of fellowship and camaraderie to offer.

Currently represented in our membership is an assortment of diverse professional backgrounds, in addition to a wide array of generations.

We meet every Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. During our meetings, we share lunch, network, listen to the provided program, and plan for upcoming events.

We are continually looking to add to our membership, as we are convinced it will only increase and advance the ways we are able to serve our community.

Melvin Jones Fellow Jason Michael Claspill Jason Michael Claspill, born in Smithville, Mo., and happily lives in Nevada, Mo., has been a

Thomas (Tom) W. Taylor Thomas (Tom) W. Taylor, of Nevada, has been a Lions Club member for five years and has held the office of board member; vice-president; and president.

He worked eight years with Mo. Pacific RR; self-employed contractor since 1986; and a registered engineering consultant since 1995.

His family includes

wife, Caroline; daughter, Brooke, is a college English professor at Lindenwood University and is married to David Duckworth, an elementary school principal in the Wentzville, Mo., school district. They are the parents of 20-monthold Caroline. His son, Brandon, is a doctoral student at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Penn., in the Human Computer Interaction Institute.

He enjoys hunting, fishing, and gardening as hobbies.

He obtained his B.S. in agricultrual engineering at University of Missouri.

Taylor is a member of the CCPA Board; Habitat for Humanity Board; and is a member of the United Methodist Church, where he serves on the Board of Trustees.

Michael L. Brown, of Beaver City, Neb., has been a Lions Club member for seven years and has held the office of Board member; first, second, and

He is a truck insurance specialist and insurance agent at Nevada Insurance Agency.

He enjoys fishing, marksmanship/gunsmithing, trained in various martial arts, bodybuilding and cheesy acting on reality TV shows.

Claspill graduated Lake Havasu High School in 1998; Crowder College in Nevada with a 4.0 GPA; and served in the USMC Infantry, Sergeant E-5, serving two deployments to the Med, one leading to operations in the Middle East.

He is a member of Masonic Lodge No. 303 and of First Christian Church.
