NORTHEAST VERNON COUNTY FFA Chapter Northeast Vernon County Celebrates FFA Week Each year, FFA chapters around the country celebrate National FFA Week. The week-long tradition began in 1947 when the National FFA Board of Directors designated the week of George Washington’s birthday as National FFA Week in recognition of his legacy as an agriculturist and farmer. The first National FFA Week was held in 1948. Today, FFA Week always runs Saturday to Saturday and encompasses Feb. 22, Washington’s birthday. National FFA Week is an opportunity for FFA members to advocate for agricultural education and FFA. Today, there are 629,367 FFA members in 7,757 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Missouri is one of the top five membership states with 25,920 FFA members. Northeast Vernon County FFA currently has 24 high school FFA members and 12 middle school FFA members, which has increased from the 2014-15 school year and is projected to increase again in the 2016-17 school year.

Northeast Vernon County FFA members will have dress-up days at school for FFA week, as well as host a few other events. FFA members will host a Supporter’s Breakfast on Wednesday, February 23, in the agriculture education room. A waffle bar, fruits, and beverages will be provided to local FFA supporters and businessmen to show Northeast Vernon County FFA’s appreciation for the continued support that is received. Bronaugh FFA Reporter, Esther Nichols The Bronaugh FFA has continued to be dedicated in making a positive difference in the lives of its student members by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

We currently have 57 secondary and post-secondary members. The 2015/2016 Chapter Officers are: President: Cole Diggins Vice-President: Megan Yokley 2nd VP & Treasurer: Rebecca Schnedler Secretary: Lindsey Reedy Reporter: Esther Nichols Sentinel: Kasen Pitts In 2015 the Bronaugh FFA had five area SAE proficiency winners Reece Mader – Food Service, Cole Diggins – Agriscience Plant Systems, Martell Moore – Fruit Production, Lora Shaw – Beef Production Placement and Chance Wait – Swine Production Placement. Cole Diggins won state with his proficiency and received silver at Nationals while Chance Wait placed second in the state competition.

Two CDE (career development event) teams made it to state competition. These were the livestock evaluation team of Megan Yokley, Reece Mader, Kasen Pitts and Joe Mader and the farm business management team of Lora Shaw, Cole Diggins, Mandy Murphy and Nikki Fry. Both teams earned a group I gold rating.

Esther Nichols also reached state competition in the FFA creed speaking event.

State FFA Degree recipients were Lora Shaw, Reece Mader and Martell Moore.

Cole Diggins continued his agriscience success by winning the state FFA agriscience competition and earned a sixth place gold medal at the national contest in Louisville, KY. Three members earned the American FFA Degree Chance Wait, Cydnee Piper and Thomas Kerbs. Our chapter also earned a state level chapter

activity award that put us as a top fifty FFA chapter in the state.

Megan Yokley and Lindsey Reedy were elected to the area IX FFA officer team with Megan as the Vice President and Lindsey as the Treasurer. Four members are to receive their state FFA degrees this year; Megan Yokley, Lindsey Reedy, Cole Diggins and Rebecca Schnedler.

• Bronaugh FFA members own } a combined total of 94 beef cows, 11 swine, 13 sheep, 109 poultry, 5 horses, 42 rabbits and 47 goats.

• Bronaugh FFA members worked a combined total of 10,661 hours with placement SAE’s.

• Current membership is 51% female and 49% male.

Each year during our FFA week we try to have a variety of events that are offered to both the members and the community. We kick off the week with FFA Sunday. On this day the chapter’s members are invited to kick off the fun filled week by going to a church service together.

After the conclusion of the service members typically gather together to play games and bond with other members or to prepare for upcoming activities during the week. On Monday, we are having our chapter fun day. Although members work together quite frequently in class, he purpose of this day is to bring all ages of members together for a fun activity that helps them to get to know more about each other outside of the classroom and meetings. After the chapter fun, we then shift to giving back to our teachers and community. On Tuesday, we hold a teacher appreciation day where members bring in different food and snack items to put in the teachers lounge for our instructors to enjoy throughout the day.

Wednesday, is one of biggest day during FFA week.

We hold our annual businessmen’s luncheon where we provide a meal to all of our supporters and boosters to thank them for their contributions to our organization.

On Thursday, a group of members travel to Benton Elementary for our agriculture literacy day. During this day we educate students about different aspects of agriculture and where things come from as well as tell them about the opportunities available through FFA. Thursday evening is also the Area IX Banquet that students will travel to. As the week begins to wind down, we wear our chapter t-shirts on Friday during the school day, and after school is over members travel to the fairgrounds to help set up for the Booster Club’s consignment auction which held that Saturday.

RICH HILL FFA Chapter Rich Hill FFA Highlights Area 7 FFA Volleyball Tournament On August 1, 2014 the Rich Hill FFA Chapter held the Area VII Volleyball Tournament. The chapters involved were Cass Career Center, Adrian, Rich Hill, Lakeland, Appleton City, Belton, and Drexel. First place was awarded to Rich Hill.

Central District FFA Fair On the 6th and 7th of July the Central District FFA Fair was held at the Johnson County Fair Grounds, Warrensburg, MO. The Rich Hill FFA placed with top honors in the field crops division winning Chapter Sweepstakes in Field Crops.

Natural Disaster and Preparedness Grant The Rich Hill FFA Chapter received the Natural Disaster and Preparedness Grant to help the school and community. The FFA has been able to contribute to the safety aspects of the safe room by providing a defibrillator. In addition they provided first aid kits for each classroom.

National Convention Rich Hill FFA members traveled to Louisville, KY for National FFA Convention. Students spent the several days touring Louisville, listening to guest speakers, and meeting industry leaders.

The American FFA Degree is awarded to members who have demonstrated the

highest level of commitment to FFA and made significant accomplishments in their supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs). Rich Hill had two members receive this high honor those two members were Hagen Fischer and Jackson Ogburn.

El Dorado Springs FFA Chapter at a GlanceMadison Whitaker: The 2015-2016 school year for the FFA has been a blast! We currently have 93 FFA members and a great 8th grade class. We’ve done it all from small hometown events like the ATV rodeo all the way to National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky!

We started out the year by training our officers to be better leaders and create a fun calendar of events for the year. The officers theme for the year is “On a mission to protect our tradition”. Our first FFA activity was back to school social with members, alumni, and parents in attendance. The officers discussed different things we would be doing throughout the year and welcomed new members to this great organization. We ran our first official meeting as officers for the new year. In October, we hosted Food For America and 500 elementary kids came out to learn about safety, livestock, and farm equipment. We went to National Convention in October with 15 kids and had lots of fun visiting Louisville Slugger, a vineyard, and convention sessions filled with blue jackets. Our community service project for the year was to raise money for food for local families. The 5K and our Christmas Basket donation was a huge success.

As Spring begins, FFA gets really busy and we are excited to see what our members accomplish over the next four month.
