Hi! My name is Brent Banes and I’m running for Vernon County Collector/Treasurer. I would like to tell you about myself and my family. My wife Ashley (McNeil) Banes and I have been married for fourteen years and have two children Josie and Strauss. We live on a farm between Nevada and Bronaugh where we raise beef cattle and have a custom haying operation. Ashley is employed at Nevada Family Dentistry in Nevada, MO. Our daughter Josie is twelve and our son Strauss is ten. They are both involved in basketball, softball/baseball, 4-H, and day to day operations on the farm. We are all members of the Moundville United Methodist Church.

As of March of this year I had been employed with the Missouri Department of Transportation for fifteen years. I heard that the Vernon County Collector and Treasurer job was going to open soon and I was excited to seek the opportunity. Due to a conflict of interest on MODOT’S behalf I resigned for this new career adventure.

About five years ago I decided to file for Bronaugh R-7 school board. I was successful in the election and I am currently serving my second term and also currently Vice President.

I am presently on the Public Water District No. one board. I have been on the board for about two years.

I attended and graduated from Bronaugh R-7 High School in 1997. I pursued my education in general studies at Allen County Community College where I played baseball and continued my education the next year at Fort Scott Community College.

I have dedicated the last fifteen years working for and serving the public. The time that I have been with the Missouri Department of Transportation, Bronaugh R-7 school board, and Public Water District Board has prepared me for this position. I have spent many hours going over budgets, reports, policies and procedures, and working with the public in general. My experience with these opportunities have made me realize that you have to put the right people in the right places to be successful. This job requires a person that has a superior work ethic and strong leadership skills. Someone that can communicate with the patrons and deal with issues that may arise on a daily basis, most of all integrity and dedication.

I have proven that I am serious about wanting to continue to serve the citizens of Vernon County. I thank you for this opportunity and I would like to be your next Collector/Treasurer.
