As a reminder, one of the big events of the summer for PCA is the Porsche Parade which is being held in Salt Lake City, UT in July. Registration is still open and we have several folks attending. But you should make some decisions soon since some of the

The regions in Zone 2 cover Virginia, DC, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. One of the topics we discussed at the Zone 2 meeting is the desire to hold a non-competitive weekend event for the zone filled with driving tours, dinners, etc…stay tuned and let one of our board members know if you are interested in helping with such an event should we get the wheels rolling on the idea. Also, if you are going to be traveling in any of the states listed in Zone 2 you can go to the Zone 2 calendar link on our FSR website and see region events you may be interested in attending.

One item I hoped to let you know about after the Zone 2 meeting was this year’s Baltimore Grand Prix, scheduled for Labor Day weekend. However, it looks like there are many financial negotiations to still occur before it will come to fruition…so stay tuned.

On the other hand, in September the American LeMans Series (ALMS) race at VIR promises to be a great event. If you are

Autocross – The Other Motorsport

Our friends in the Shenandoah Region, PCA have an autocross site near Charlottesville and in northern Virginia see the Potomoc Region. (pca.org).

Shenandoah also sponsors regular Autocross training events and a premier competitive event at their Richmond Porsche Meet (RPM) in June.

From the Editor: To Autocross fanatics, their form of autosport competition is sometimes called the “No Sparco Zone” because drivers and cars can be competive without some of the safety and performance equipment required to participate in road racing. Though autocrossing can come with it’s own level of ‘extreme preparation’ with custom built cars, the level of equipment, licenses and budget required to participate and be competitive is a fraction of what is required in PCA Club Racing.

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun or that winning doesn’t take skill and practice. All it takes to get started is a car - pretty much any kind will do but your Porsche is a perfect start to being competitive - and a helmet. Beginners need not worry about any special equipment, to include tires, but you’ll find more dedicated competitors running sticky tires and lightweight cars with special set-ups.

All types of cars compete and of course Porsches are welcome.

The usual group of Porsche autocrossers may be at each event.

You generally do not have to be a member of any club to participate, just pay a modest entry fee and pass a basic on-site safety inspection. Loaner helmets are available. There is no charge for entry to the site as a spectator.

Although there are other local resources, First Settlers has interest in starting our own Autocross program. If you can locate and have access to a suitable location for an Autocross event, please contact any First Settlers Region officer. Hope to see you at the next event!!

Autocross, simply described, involves driving a course, layedout using highway traffic cones, in a pattern of turns, slaloms, reversals and short straights. Cars run the course one at a time, competing against the clock rather than another car on track.

Though the courses will vary from event to event, a typical “lap time” is less than a minute. Each driver will run several ‘heats’ during the course of the day, always trying to better their own time as well as times of the competition. Because each run is relatively short, the difference in time between the fastest to the slowest car can be only a few seconds, so the most competitive drivers are always trying to shave tenths of seconds from their times. Mistakes are magnified and difficult to make up before the ‘checkered flag‘ flies.

Rather than describe winning techniques, the point of this article written by Andrew Chisholm, a tried and true AX’er, is to introduce readers to the sport and explain the ways to get started in our local area.

Andrew Chisholm: Phil asked me to comment on the current state of the autocross scene in First Settlers territory. Like many things these days, “it is the economy…” and fields are down from some years back.

Tidewater Sports Car Club, LTD is the main autocross force in the Virginia Beach area and their website lists nine events for 2012. Each event listed is the third Sunday of the month and currently the site is the Pungo Fairgrounds in “rural” Virginia Beach. TSCC’s April 15th event had 90 cars (including 6 Porsches) on a perfect blue sky day, so the momentum is picking up as the weather warms up.

Henrico County Schools Read

The First Settlers Region “Goodie Store” is now open for business!

“The Art of Racing in the Rain” by: Steve Sarfaty First Settlers made a big impression with eager students at a recent event in Henrico County. “All Henrico Reads” is an annual reading program sponsored by the Public Library and Henrico County Public Schools. This year, the county middle and high school students were encouraged to read a fascinating book called “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein. The book is about achieving goals and overcoming the challenges that life can throw at you. The interesing twist is that the story is narrated by an old wise dog named “Enzo”. Enzo’s master is a fledgling race driver the book is filled with racing references. But you don’t have to be a track junkie or even a gear-head to enjoy the story.

You can order shirts, blouses, jackets and caps in various styles and colors with our FSR logo on the front and with “Porsche” in block lettering on the back.

Pam Michaels is the store coordinator and is working to get new items on the site periodically and we will also look to change out items on a seasonal basis.

One of the county librarians asked FSR to participate in a pep rally of sorts to get the students pumped up for reading the book. We arranged for the Saleen factory driver to speak to students in the library. The students then came out to the basketball courts where we had parked our cars for them to view. The kids had a blast and so did the FSR volunteers.

A few weeks later we were invited back to hear the author speak at Glen Allen High School. We staged our cars at the entrance to the school for all attendees to enjoy. The auditorium was packed and a great time was had by all. The county was thrilled to have us participate and sends thanks to our region.

In 1972 he founded the "Porsche Design Studio" in Stuttgart, the head office of which was relocated to Zell am See in Austria in 1974. The credo of his design work was: "Design must be functional and functionality has t o be translated visually into aesthetics, without gags that have to be explained first." F.A. I always figured ‘slamming’ the trunk lid on any car, particularly a Porsche, was not the best way to ensure a secure latch while not causing any damage to body panels or the latch mechanism. The ‘urban myth’ I learned early in my Porsche-owning experience was that the proper way to close the hood/trunk was to lower it to the first latch position then firmly press down directly onto the Porsche crest until hearing and feeling a firm ‘click’ to ensure a solid lock. In fact, I was told the crest was positioned as a ‘target’ to press on the right spot.

Tire Tips Getting More Out of Your Competition Tires.

Reprinted from Tirerack.com 1. Between races, never store tires exposed to the elements on your race car trailer's tire rack or outside your shop, store them in a cool, dry place away from electric motors.

2. Immediately after every track session, remove debris and inspect your tires for damage and wear. If possible, let them cool while they are off the ground 3. Your tire's tread temperatures as read by a pyrometer will "never" be even across your tire's tread (Unless you have just completed a successful tuning session on a skid pad.)

4. Tire pressure increases 1 psi for every 10 degrees in ambient temperature 5. Shade pairs of tires from direct sunlight between sessions as much as possible. The sun's heat will raise your tire's pressure.

6. Autocross inflation pressures should be adjusted warm, road racing inflation pressures should be adjusted hot.

7. For racing or track events, your rain tire's starting inflation pressure should be higher than your dry tires.

8. Tires are part of your suspension, using lower profile tires is like using shorter, stiffer springs.

Inflation Pressures - Always use the lowest pressure possible, while higher inflation pressures may enhance responsiveness, they sacrifice traction. If uneven wear begins while at low pressures, increase them.

Higher front tire pressure decreases understeer while lower front tire pressure decreases oversteer.

Conversely, on the rear tires, lower tire pressure decreases understeer while higher tire pressure decreases oversteer.

According to the Tech Forum in Excellence magazine, this technique can result in bent or broken hood crest something they see often. In worst cases, they see dented hoods around the crest area. It’s a costly habit that could lead to a $160 bill to buy a shiny new crest from Porsche.

The preferred method, according to the techs, is to lower the hood to the first latch position then place the palms of each hand six to ten inches to either side and slightly foward of the crest and apply light downward pressure until the latch catches. If this method doesn’t work and heavier pressure is required, you should check the alignment and condition of the latch.

A second common way to damage your car inadvertently is to rev it or accelerate hard while the engine is still cold. Experts recommend keeping your RPM below 4000 and accelerate conservatively when the engine is cold.

Because the internal engine components are made of different types of metals, with different thermal qualities, they expand at different rates. By revving a cold engine, you are forcing the engine components to expand at a faster rate than normal before reaching operating design tolerances.

The way to determine when the engine is properly warmed-up is by the oil temperature. However, many cars don’t have oil temperature gauges. In water-cooled cars the water temperature comes up to the normal range before the engine oil so the coolant temperature gauge is not an accurate measurement of your engine being properly warmed-up. The recommendation is to drive conservatively, with the revs below 4000 RPM for about six to ten minutes, to allow the engine oil to warm up to provide proper lubrication.

Tire pressures in the rain. For both autocross and road racing, increase tire pressures 6-10 psi from what you would normally run in dry conditions. Hydroplaning occurs when a wedge of water develops between the tire and road surface. This wedge can actually lift the tire off the road and eliminate traction.

Increasing the pressure rounds the profile of the tire by decreasing the deflection of the tire. This results in a smaller contact patch - narrower and shorter. It also helps keep the grooves in the tread open so they can channel the water out from under the tire.

Also, the experts recommend not warming your engine by letting it idle for extended periods of time before driving off. It’s better to drive the car away immediately after start-up, conservatively, and letting the oil circulate while warming up to to a normal operating temperature of about 180 degrees.

Porsche Community Mourns The Death of Ferdinand Porsche Reprinted from: Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is mourning Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The Honorary President of the Supervisory Board died on 5 April 2012 in Salzburg, aged 76.

Matthias Müller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche AG, paid tribute to Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's services to the sports car manufacturer: "We mourn the death of our partner, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.

As the creator of the Porsche 911, he established a design culture in our company that has shaped our sports cars to this very day. His philosophy of good design is a legacy to us that we will honour for all time."

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was born in Stuttgart on 11 December 1935, the oldest son of Dorothea and Ferry Porsche. In 1958, F.A. Porsche, as he was known by his colleagues, joined the engineering office of what was then Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche KG. to my pit, I was bumped again at Turn 7 and ran offtrack. I was able to rejoin but only after a couple of H competitors passed me, and I decided that this would be a good time to pit. During that “off”, I must have cut my tire. After my pit stop, I had two “offs” for no apparent reason. I am told that the announcer called my second “off” at the bottom of Turn 12 which leads to the front straight as “The Save of the Day!” I don’t know about that, but coming to rest within 5 feet of the inside concrete barrier might have qualified for the “Code Brown” moment of the day. While I waited for the flagger to waive me back on the track, I was reminded of the wise words spoken by Clint Eastwood. “A man has got to know his limitations!” I had reached mine and so I returned to the pits and my trailer with another DNF in a points race at 36 laps and 1:11:05 on the track. The H winner was T J Larson at 51 laps and 1:31:37.

Summary: My son, Alex, lives in Atlanta with his wife Kelly, and is in his second year of law school while she teaches at a local private school. Alex was a big help at the track on the radio and in the pit for the Enduro. While my overall results were disappointing from a points position (I only got 5 points and that was just for entering the event!), the four days I spent at Road Atlanta were awesome.

The weather was perfect with a only bit of rain on Thursday. Past years have seen some nasty weather, and Road Atlanta is not a friendly track when wet. I definitely learned a lot from David Murry and his instruction.

After I returned home and removed the wheels from my car, I found that the left rear Hoosier had severe separation from the sidewall of the tire on the inside.

The tire was also flat. I only had three heat cycles on the tires and I am hopeful Hoosier will replace it once I send the tire back to Bob Woodman. This further confirmed my decision to pit, sensing something wasn’t right, was a smart move to avoid further possible damage or injury.

I was also accompanied by my fellow H racer, Pete Tremper. We met near Raleigh and drove together with our CB radios for communication. I will say only that Pete is over 65 and still driving and racing his 964 Prepared H car competitively. He has a sticker on his car that says “Sponsored by Social Security”.

Along with other Club Racers like Tim Costa and Manny Alban, Pete has been a big help to me personally. There is so much to learn about the sport of racing, and it really helps when veteran drivers provide advice and support. While we do compete and want to win, we also realize that the Porsche Club motto “It’s not just the cars, It’s the people” is right on the money. Whether we race, DE, Fun Run, Parade, Breakfast, or just socialize, PCA provides many ways for us to enjoy our cars and its people!

Anatomy of a Club Race

by Alex Bell On March 23-25, 2012, PCA Peachstate Region celebrated its 20th year of hosting a PCA Club Race at the famed Road Atlanta road course in Braselton, Georgia.

While I had attended two Drivers Education (DE) events there in the past few years, this was my first Club Race at this track. I have completed eleven Club Races beginning with the June 2009 Rumble at the Oak Tree at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR), and I have been most fortunate to learn more about driving while making some new friends in the process. Tracks I have raced include Sebring in Florida (2), VIR (3), Watkins Glen in New York (1), Summit Point in West Virginia (2), New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) (2), and now Road Atlanta (1). It has been my intention for some time to share my experience with our region, and this event provides perhaps the best opportunity to put pen to paper.

Tremper (PCA National DE Chair) and I, but we were fortunate to be able to make room for Don on the fold out sofa. We also were in the paddock together along with Don and his Stock D 911 SC. Friday March 23, 2012: There were three practice sessions followed by practice starts and a fun race.

The fun race is mandatory for rookie drivers and optional for everyone else. I always do the fun race with an extra eye out for some who forget this is a “practice” race! Other more experienced drivers forgo the fun race just for that reason alone. The first practice grid is open on a first come first served basis. After that, your grid position is determined based on your fastest lap time.

Most PCA Club Racing events cover a three day period from Friday to Sunday just like most of our DE events. Unlike DE, where drivers are grouped based on their driving experience, racers are grouped based on the speed and classification of their cars. At Road Atlanta, there were three run groups. My 2001 Carrera is in Stock H and competed against eleven cars in the class. We were in Run Group 2 and close to the top of the fastest cars in our group. You quickly learn that lap times are important every session, and I learned this the hard way at Summit Point three years ago. I did my first practice on Toyo Tires which are about 2 seconds a lap slower than the Hoosier R6 we all use. My thought was to use the Toyo in practice and save the Hoosier for the race. When I realized I was gridded behind some slower cars in Practice 2, I then realized I would never catch other H cars that were running Hoosiers.

After that practice, I visited Bob Woodman Tire at the track and had the Toyos replaced with Hooisers! Also, at that event, they used the fastest lap time from Practice 3 to determine your grid for the first race on Saturday.

Saturday March 24, 2012: There was one qualifying session followed by two Sprint Races. Each race was 20 laps and the total time for each race averaged 27 minutes. My qualifying time was 1:38.3 which had me on the grid in third place behind Mark McGuire (1999 Carrera) at 1:37.7 and T J Larson (1993 Carrera RS) at 1:37.9. I passed T J during the first few laps but Mark was harder to catch. Close to the end of the race, Mark spun at

he had to say about the incident, and he confirmed that I was not at fault. I actually received a letter from PCA confirming this result. The Cayman driver was determined to be at fault and received a “13/13” penalty for his actions. This meant he was done for the weekend, and he will be on probation for the next 13 months. If he has another violation, then he would not be allowed to race for a 12 month period.

These rules and their enforcement encourage what we are all trying to do….peacefully coexist!

Sunday March 25, 2012: There were two run groups for the 90 minute enduro race. The H cars were in the faster run group with the Cup cars! We were the second slowest class in the race and we knew this would make for some interesting passes from the much faster Cup cars! The winner of the enduro drove a 2010 GT3 Cup with a fast lap time of 1:28 over 57 laps where my fastest lap time for that race was 1:39.

The Enduro Protocol explains the rules as we are required to pit for a five minute period during the race, and I pitted at 55 minutes to get fuel and a drink of water. Just prior

The second Sprint Race Saturday had me on the grid in 4th place based on my fastest lap in Sprint 1.

Nine laps into this race at Turn 7, a Cayman H car made contact with me and spun me off track left.

When contact is made, the rules state that you must come into the pit area at the Black Flag station, and we then proceeded to the Tech area. The Cayman had hit my right rear wheel but there was no damage anywhere else on my car. The Cayman was not so fortunate as he had radiator and bumper cover repairs ahead. I finished the race with a DNF (Did Not Finish) and, unfortunatly, 0 points awarded in this points race.

After I spoke with the driver at the Tech area, I was required to complete an Accident Report and visit the medical personnel to be sure I was not injured. While I was completing the report, another racer told me he had video of the incident. I downloaded the video so I could give it to the Chief Steward. I also learned that the corner worker at Turn 7 also completed an accident report. I met this corner worker at dinner that night who told me what HORIZONTALLY OPPOSED

Porsche Community Mourns The Death of Ferdinand Porsche Reprinted from: Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is mourning Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The Honorary President of the Supervisory Board died on 5 April 2012 in Salzburg, aged 76.

Matthias Müller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche AG, paid tribute to Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's services to the sports car manufacturer: "We mourn the death of our partner, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.

As the creator of the Porsche 911, he established a design culture in our company that has shaped our sports cars to this very day. His philosophy of good design is a legacy to us that we will honour for all time."

Car Care C rner Tech Tips By: Phil Grandfield Portions reprinted from “Excellence” magazine.

I always figured ‘slamming’ the trunk lid on any car, particularly a Porsche, was not the best way to ensure a secure latch while not causing any damage to body panels or the latch mechanism. The ‘urban myth’ I learned early in my Porsche-owning experience was that the proper way to close the hood/trunk was to lower it to the first latch position then firmly press down directly onto the Porsche crest until hearing and feeling a firm ‘click’ to ensure a solid lock. In fact, I was told the crest was positioned as a ‘target’ to press on the right spot.

Tire Tips Getting More Out of Your Competition Tires.

Reprinted from Tirerack.com 1. Between races, never store tires exposed to the elements on your race car trailer's tire rack or outside your shop, store them in a cool, dry place away from electric motors.

2. Immediately after every track session, remove debris and inspect your tires for damage and wear. If possible, let them cool while they are off the ground 3. Your tire's tread temperatures as read by a pyrometer will "never" be even across your tire's tread (Unless you have just completed a successful tuning session on a skid pad.)

4. Tire pressure increases 1 psi for every 10 degrees in ambient temperature 5. Shade pairs of tires from direct sunlight between sessions as much as possible. The sun's heat will raise your tire's pressure.

6. Autocross inflation pressures should be adjusted warm, road racing inflation pressures should be adjusted hot.

7. For racing or track events, your rain tire's starting inflation pressure should be higher than your dry tires.

8. Tires are part of your suspension, using lower profile tires is like using shorter, stiffer springs.

Inflation Pressures - Always use the lowest pressure possible, while higher inflation pressures may enhance responsiveness, they sacrifice traction. If uneven wear begins while at low pressures, increase them.

Higher front tire pressure decreases understeer while lower front tire pressure decreases oversteer.

Conversely, on the rear tires, lower tire pressure decreases understeer while higher tire pressure decreases oversteer.

According to the Tech Forum in Excellence magazine, this technique can result in bent or broken hood crest something they see often. In worst cases, they see dented hoods around the crest area. It’s a costly habit that could lead to a $160 bill to buy a shiny new crest from Porsche.

The preferred method, according to the techs, is to lower the hood to the first latch position then place the palms of each hand six to ten inches to either side and slightly foward of the crest and apply light downward pressure until the latch catches. If this method doesn’t work and heavier pressure is required, you should check the alignment and condition of the latch.

A second common way to damage your car inadvertently is to rev it or accelerate hard while the engine is still cold. Experts recommend keeping your RPM below 4000 and accelerate conservatively when the engine is cold.

Because the internal engine components are made of different types of metals, with different thermal qualities, they expand at different rates. By revving a cold engine, you are forcing the engine components to expand at a faster rate than normal before reaching operating design tolerances.

The way to determine when the engine is properly warmed-up is by the oil temperature. However, many cars don’t have oil temperature gauges. In water-cooled cars the water temperature comes up to the normal range before the engine oil so the coolant temperature gauge is not an accurate measurement of your engine being properly warmed-up. The recommendation is to drive conservatively, with the revs below 4000 RPM for about six to ten minutes, to allow the engine oil to warm up to provide proper lubrication.

Tire pressures in the rain. For both autocross and road racing, increase tire pressures 6-10 psi from what you would normally run in dry conditions. Hydroplaning occurs when a wedge of water develops between the tire and road surface. This wedge can actually lift the tire off the road and eliminate traction.

Increasing the pressure rounds the profile of the tire by decreasing the deflection of the tire. This results in a smaller contact patch - narrower and shorter. It also helps keep the grooves in the tread open so they can channel the water out from under the tire.

Also, the experts recommend not warming your engine by letting it idle for extended periods of time before driving off. It’s better to drive the car away immediately after start-up, conservatively, and letting the oil circulate while warming up to to a normal operating temperature of about 180 degrees.

The First Settlers Region “Goodie Store” is now open for business!

“The Art of Racing in the Rain” by: Steve Sarfaty First Settlers made a big impression with eager students at a recent event in Henrico County. “All Henrico Reads” is an annual reading program sponsored by the Public Library and Henrico County Public Schools. This year, the county middle and high school students were encouraged to read a fascinating book called “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein. The book is about achieving goals and overcoming the challenges that life can throw at you. The interesing twist is that the story is narrated by an old wise dog named “Enzo”. Enzo’s master is a fledgling race driver the book is filled with racing references. But you don’t have to be a track junkie or even a gear-head to enjoy the story.

You can order shirts, blouses, jackets and caps in various styles and colors with our FSR logo on the front and with “Porsche” in block lettering on the back.

Pam Michaels is the store coordinator and is working to get new items on the site periodically and we will also look to change out items on a seasonal basis.

One of the county librarians asked FSR to participate in a pep rally of sorts to get the students pumped up for reading the book. We arranged for the Saleen factory driver to speak to students in the library. The students then came out to the basketball courts where we had parked our cars for them to view. The kids had a blast and so did the FSR volunteers.

A few weeks later we were invited back to hear the author speak at Glen Allen High School. We staged our cars at the entrance to the school for all attendees to enjoy. The auditorium was packed and a great time was had by all. The county was thrilled to have us participate and sends thanks to our region.

Our friends in the Shenandoah Region, PCA have an autocross site near Charlottesville and in northern Virginia see the Potomoc Region. (pca.org).

Shenandoah also sponsors regular Autocross training events and a premier competitive event at their Richmond Porsche Meet (RPM) in June.

From the Editor: To Autocross fanatics, their form of autosport competition is sometimes called the “No Sparco Zone” because drivers and cars can be competive without some of the safety and performance equipment required to participate in road racing. Though autocrossing can come with it’s own level of ‘extreme preparation’ with custom built cars, the level of equipment, licenses and budget required to participate and be competitive is a fraction of what is required in PCA Club Racing.

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun or that winning doesn’t take skill and practice. All it takes to get started is a car - pretty much any kind will do but your Porsche is a perfect start to being competitive - and a helmet. Beginners need not worry about any special equipment, to include tires, but you’ll find more dedicated competitors running sticky tires and lightweight cars with special set-ups.

All types of cars compete and of course Porsches are welcome.

The usual group of Porsche autocrossers may be at each event.

You generally do not have to be a member of any club to participate, just pay a modest entry fee and pass a basic on-site safety inspection. Loaner helmets are available. There is no charge for entry to the site as a spectator.

Although there are other local resources, First Settlers has interest in starting our own Autocross program. If you can locate and have access to a suitable location for an Autocross event, please contact any First Settlers Region officer. Hope to see you at the next event!!

Autocross, simply described, involves driving a course, layedout using highway traffic cones, in a pattern of turns, slaloms, reversals and short straights. Cars run the course one at a time, competing against the clock rather than another car on track.

Though the courses will vary from event to event, a typical “lap time” is less than a minute. Each driver will run several ‘heats’ during the course of the day, always trying to better their own time as well as times of the competition. Because each run is relatively short, the difference in time between the fastest to the slowest car can be only a few seconds, so the most competitive drivers are always trying to shave tenths of seconds from their times. Mistakes are magnified and difficult to make up before the ‘checkered flag‘ flies.

Rather than describe winning techniques, the point of this article written by Andrew Chisholm, a tried and true AX’er, is to introduce readers to the sport and explain the ways to get started in our local area.

Andrew Chisholm: Phil asked me to comment on the current state of the autocross scene in First Settlers territory. Like many things these days, “it is the economy…” and fields are down from some years back.

Tidewater Sports Car Club, LTD is the main autocross force in the Virginia Beach area and their website lists nine events for 2012. Each event listed is the third Sunday of the month and currently the site is the Pungo Fairgrounds in “rural” Virginia Beach. TSCC’s April 15th event had 90 cars (including 6 Porsches) on a perfect blue sky day, so the momentum is picking up as the weather warms up.

The regions in Zone 2 cover Virginia, DC, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. One of the topics we discussed at the Zone 2 meeting is the desire to hold a non-competitive weekend event for the zone filled with driving tours, dinners, etc…stay tuned and let one of our board members know if you are interested in helping with such an event should we get the wheels rolling on the idea. Also, if you are going to be traveling in any of the states listed in Zone 2 you can go to the Zone 2 calendar link on our FSR website and see region events you may be interested in attending.

One item I hoped to let you know about after the Zone 2 meeting was this year’s Baltimore Grand Prix, scheduled for Labor Day weekend. However, it looks like there are many financial negotiations to still occur before it will come to fruition…so stay tuned.

On the other hand, in September the American LeMans Series (ALMS) race at VIR promises to be a great event. If you are
