Letter from Smile for Everyone Foundation November 21, 2021 On behalf of Smiles for Everyone Foundation and our six international outposts, thank you for your continued support. Your generous gift of portable dental units has been the backbone of our dental outreaches in the five countries where we have established Outposts: Thailand, Laos, Paraguay, Ghana, and Nicaragua. They are becoming foundational for the work in Mexico, our newest Outpost, as well.

The dental units you provided have helped give thousands of smiles to underserved communities and allowed us to hold dental outreaches in remote locations and in settings that have little or no access to dental services. As a result, they are experiencing improved oral health and increased self-esteem to achieve their potential, and they have hope in other areas of their lives.

Together, Aseptico and Smiles for Everyone Foundation are making an immense difference for people of all ages in ways that were previously unattainable. We plan to continue expanding our impact globally together with you for many years to come.

Giving Back Smiles Joary suffered from harsh comments in school for years. “Whenever I smiled, I had to cover my mouth to not show my bad teeth,” she commented, “[my classmates] said, “here comes ‘Rotten Teeth’, which made me feel ashamed and sad, but I always hoped that one day I would fix my teeth.”

Joary was treated at the outreach and, now that her teeth are fixed, she has a great opportunity to share with her classmates, explaining that eating sweets and not brushing is what causes teeth to break down.

“I will not make fun of them. I will tell them that they should brush so that they are not embarrassed by their teeth and do not suffer like me.”

Joary’s family could not afford proper dental care and are grateful for the attention they received. She is excited about helping others to lead a healthier life.

“I feel happy, well cared for by the doctors, it didn’t hurt, the doctor did a good job for me with a lot of patience and my teeth look beautiful.”

Mae Hia is the main caregiver for her bed ridden husband.

Like many caregivers, Mae has put her husband’s needs above her own for years.

When the SFEF mobile dental team visted bed ridden patients in the area, they examined her husband and also gave her advice on how to best care for his oral health given his condition.

Mae also consulted with the dentists and needed urgent treatment for gingivitis, including a tumor that measured nearly half an inch.

Mae feared leaving her husband alone, but she knew she had to take advantage of the free dental care she was being offered. Normally, she would have to wait six months to a year for government health services and private clinics were too expensive.

The next day, Mae decided to go to the dental outreach. She had the tumor removed, the wound sealed, and her teeth cleaned. She was so happy to receive treatment and was impressed with the dental team’s commitment to serving and helping others.

2 sets of Aseptico Chairs The Nicaragua Outposts sends their brigade into rural and underserved communities throughout the country.

Many of the villages where the outreaches take place have never before received dental care.

PARAGUAY

After running a mobile clinic for years, the Paraguay outpost reinvented itself during the pandemic. Now patients are treated through a network of local dentists in their respective offices. The mobile clinic will continue when restrictions are lifted.

2 sets of Aseptico Chairs As a nation, Laos also experienced extended lockdown periods and combined forces with the Thailand outposts in 2020. Thankfully, restrictions have relaxed and the Outpost was able to resume activity late this year.

2 sets of Aseptico chairs Sensing great need in their nation, the Ghana outpost increased from monthly outreaches to weekly. In addition to the patients treated, thousands more were screened and participated in health talks.

4 sets of Aseptico chairs Experiencing nationwide lockdowns for much of 2020 and 21, the Thailand Outpost was forced to cancel several outreaches.

They remained hopefull, ontinued to plan ahead, and provided dental outreaches whenever lockdowns lifted.
