CREW POSITIONS

Crew members have the opportunity to work with a tight knit team to prep, load-in/out and run exciting Broadway tours throughout North America, while collaborating with the industry’s leading directors, choreographers and designers. All crew members work under IATSE contracts with benefits. Each tour varies in size, length and route and may include full week, split week and single night engagements. Touring experience is preferred but not required. The company offers tremendous growth potential for its crew members, and most have enjoyed continual employment for many years.

Pay for touring technicians is dependent on the IATSE qualification of each tour. Employees receive weekly salary plus per diem and benefits, including health and welfare. Our current rates (salary, excluding per diem) range from $1000-$1800/week, dependent on tour qualification. All Crew Members also recieve OSHA 10 Construction certifications.

HEAD CARPENTER JOB OVERVIEW The Head Carpenter is responsible for advancing with venues, loading in and out the show, ensuring the performances run safely, acting as the supervisor for the touring crew (between eight and sixteen people), and is ultimately the supervisor of the local provided labor crew of thirty-five to sixty people. This position is the supervisor of every member in all technical departments.

REPORTS TO The Head Carpenter reports to the Production Manager and works closely with the Company Manager and Stage Manager.

RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES Paperwork (Venue Advance) Create documentation for the technical aspects of each venue stop on the route Load In / Load Out Oversee trucking Time management Problem solve and check in on all departments Show Call Run cues as designated during tech Observe all scene changes for safety Payroll Tracks local and touring crew per the prevailing contract and reports to Company Management for payroll and settlement purposes Staffing Recommendations Work closely with Production Management to advise on hiring, firing, and disciplinary action of all touring crew members Make best recommendation for open positions

AUTOMATION TECHNICIAN JOB OVERVIEW The Automation Technician sets up all overhead and deck automation in the show with assistance from his team of local carpenters. Once loaded in, they run a safety check of the entire system. During performances, the automation tech operates the console which controls all automation effects.

The Automation Technician supervises four or more local carpentry crew members during load-in and load-out.

REPORTS TO The Automation Technician reports to the Head Carpenter.

RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES Supervision Lead and direct four or more local carpenters to assist in the show’s load-in and load-out Load In / Load Out Reeve all trusses or other overhead automation, plug in winches, and trim trusses as necessary Reeve all deck tracks and tension winches Manage cable to maintain a safe workspace Run safety check out by operating all effects in show conditions Assist other departments by moving automation as needed Show Call Operate the automation control console in a safe and consistent manner for performances, rehearsals, and maintenance operations Daily Operations Inspect and maintain electronic, hydraulic, and motorized equipment and systems Update maintenance and inspection records as directed Preventive maintenance and cleaning of automation equipment per manufacturer’s specifications Safety Maintain a safe working environment by conforming to all established safety policies and procedures Understand Employer’s safety handbook, specifically regarding Fall Arrest and Fall Prevention Protocols

ASSISTANT CARPENTER / FLYPERSON JOB OVERVIEW The Flyperson is responsible for loading in and out the physical elements of the show including but not limited to: overhead scenery, show deck, and ground supported scenery. They will also run the fly rail during performances by relaying cue information to a team of local flyperson.

The Flyperson supervises at least four local carpentry crew members and flypersons during load-in and load-out. They are also responsible for at least one local crew member during performances.

REPORTS TO The Assistant Carpenter / Flyperson reports to the Head Carpenter.

HEAD ELECTRICIAN JOB OVERVIEW The Head Electrician is responsible for loading in and out the lighting package of the show and designating portions of the rig to the electrics assistant(s). This can include but is not limited to: overhead lighting (LX) package, Front of House (FOH) LX, and set electrics. Also running a show track which traditionally consists of operating the lighting console and taking show cues from the calling Stage Manager (SM) on headset.

The Head Electrician supervises all the touring crew within the department. In addition to supervising the department’s members, they also are responsible for a local crew of twelve or more electricians during load-in and load-out.

REPORTS TO The Head Electrician reports to the Head Carpenter.

ASSISTANT ELECTRICIAN / FOLLOW SPOT OPERATOR JOB OVERVIEW The Follow Spot Operator is responsible for loading in and out the lighting package of the show, specifically the portions of the rig as designated by the head electrician. This can include and is not limited to: overhead LX package, FOH lights, and set electrics.

The Follow Spot Operator supervises at least four local electricians that will help assist in loading in and out the show. They are also responsible for at least one local crew member during the performances.

REPORTS TO The Assistant Electrician / Follow Spot Operator reports to the Head Electrician.

HEAD AUDIO JOB OVERVIEW The A1 is responsible for loading in and out the audio package of the show and designating portions of the rig to the audio assistant(s). The A1 also tunes the room to make the sound system agrees with the venue’s acoustics and mixes the show.

The A1 supervises all the touring crew within the department. In addition to supervising department’s members, the A1 is also responsible for a local crew of four or more audio stagehands during load-in and load-out.

ASSISTANT AUDIO (A2) JOB OVERVIEW The A2 is responsible for loading in and out the audio package of the show, specifically the portions of the rig as designated by the Head Audio. This can include and is not limited to: speaker towers, center cluster, microphones, band seating.

The A2 supervises at least four local audio stagehands that will help assist in loading in and out the show. They are also responsible for at least one local crew member during the performances.

The Head Props supervises all the touring crew within the department. In addition to supervising the department’s members, they also are responsible for a local crew of four or more props stagehands during load-in and load-out as well as performances.

This can include but is not limited to: stage props, road boxes, band gear, gondolas, management, and merchandise.

The Assistant Props supervises at least four local props stagehands that will help assist in loading in and out the show. They are also responsible for at least one local crew member during the performances.

WARDROBE SUPERVISOR JOB OVERVIEW The Wardrobe Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all wardrobe related activities including costume maintenance, pre and post show needs for technical processes, and on tour. They will safely load-in and out of various venues and take lead on training the local labor. In some circumstances, costume construction during the tour may be necessary.

The Wardrobe Supervisor oversees all the touring crew within their department. In addition to supervising their department’s members, they also are responsible for a local crew of four or more during load-in and load-out as well as performances.

HAIR AND MAKEUP SUPERVISOR JOB OVERVIEW The HMU Supervisor is responsible for the care, management, maintenance, and organization of hairstyles including haircuts and hair color dyeing, wigs, and makeup.

They must safely load in and out of various venues and take lead on training the local labor. A current cosmetology license and theatrical wig experience is preferred.

SWING TECHNICIAN JOB OVERVIEW The Swing Tech is responsible for loading in and out the physical elements of the show in whatever department previously agreed upon. They will function in that same department for all load-ins and outs (unless an emergency) but will learn at least one show track in each of the other departments. Production Management and the Head Carpenter will help identify and set up a schedule to teach each of the other tracks.

The Swing Technician supervises several different local crew members throughout the course of an engagement. Depending on the department they are covering, they could oversee anywhere from one to twelve different local crew members for load-ins, load-outs, and performances.

COMPANY MANAGER JOB OVERVIEW

The Company Manager and Assistant Company Manager has a broad range of managerial functions. The Company Manager serves as the Producer’s representative while on tour and reports directly to the Executive Producer and General Manager. The Assistant Company Manager supports the Operations of the Tour. This team has a broad range of managerial functions to include company leadership, maintain company and union rules, policies and procedures, working as part of the tour management team alongside the Stage Manager, Head Carpenter and Music Director to maintain the day-to-day operations of the tour.

Theatrical touring experience is required.

RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES Company leader and directly oversee the tour management team and set the culture and tone for the company.

Ensure company member’s adherence to policies and procedures.

Administer payroll and applicable benefits for touring members.

Audit nightly box office statements, finalize engagement settlements and liaise with local presenters to ensure adherence to booking agreements.

Coordinate and manage transportation (bus/train/flight) and housing arrangements for the touring company.

Serve as the human resources representative for the tour, monitoring active insurance claims, mediating personnel issues and generally looking after the safety and well-being of all touring company members.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 3 – 5 years of tour company management and/or related industry experience.

Strong understanding and interest in touring management and operations.

Experience with presenter/venue relations, settlements, & box office statements.

Experience managing union agreements, payroll processing, workers’ compensation, personnel management and group travel & housing.

Superior communication skills, sound judgement and compassion.

STAGE MANAGER JOB OVERVIEW

The Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Managers have a broad range of managerial functions, to include company leadership, artistic oversight to maintain the creative and artistic aspects of the show, working as part of the stage management team though the day-to-day operations of the tour, and is an integral part of the road management team.

RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES Maintain the artistic integrity of the production according to the creative team vision.

Manage rehearsal process both pre- and post-opening and maintain appropriate blocking and technical documentation.

Manage and runs technical rehearsals.

Manage daily rehearsal and performance call times and schedules, both pre- and postopening.

Calls all show cues, including deck, rail, automation, lighting, and audio.

Complete rehearsal and show reports.

Take and implement creative and technical notes during rehearsals and performances.

Participate in production and management meetings, both pre-production and after opening.

Work with Head Carpenter during load-in to approve any changes to the physical show due to local conditions, as necessary.

Focus part of the conventional LX package.

Maintain a positive attitude and demeanor as a member of the road management team.

Work with Company Manager, Head Carpenter, and Music Director to manage the touring company as a team and foster a cohesive community on the road.

Adhere to and uphold show safety protocols and drug free workplace policies.

Company Leader and other duties as assigned, based on show-specific requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Minimum 3-5 years stage management experience, preferably on tour.

You do not need to be a member of Actors’ Equity Association to apply.
