For most small and home-based business owners, the economic impact of COVID-19 has been predominantly negative. According to a recent survey* conducted by CIBC, 81% of Canadian small business owners report feeling the crunch of the coronavirus, with 54% saying sales have dropped, 32% expressing concern about the viability of their business over the next year, and 85% of business owners saying that the uncertainty is the hardest part of dealing with the virus.
The response to the COVID-19 pandemic from the UNG community has been, in many ways, surprising and in other ways it’s totally expected. Entrepreneurs are the backbone of the economy. They are the people with the visionary insight, gumption, and passion to make things work when other people would give up.
In this issue of our magazine, we'll be exploring the ways in which people have been struggling, but also, the many ways our members have been evolving their businesses to stay relevant in the pandemic era.
