Green Army, welcome back to RAC Arena for tonight’s huge clash with the thirdplaced Adelaide Thunderbirds.
How good was Friday Night Netball! It was a great game and your support helped get us over the line for our biggest win in SSN-history, beating last year’s record by two goals.
I was really thrilled that we were able to get all 10 players on the court, they all contributed and we produced a near flawless game.
We finally got to show you exactly what we already knew inside the Fever environment – Ruth Aryang is a rising star. It was a great opportunity for us to utilise the 11th player, Ruth took her chance and played an amazing game and I loved seeing her and her sister Sunday team up in the goal circle.
Now we turn out attention to this week and the battle of the Sunshine Girls and the very big possibility of having six Jamaican Internationals on the court at the same time.
I have been really impressed by how Shanice Beckford and Kadie-Ann Dehaney have settled in and grown since joining our Club.
Shanice has stepped up to SSN-level and showed the competition exactly what she can do and it’s impressive.
Kadie-Ann has also found her groove at GK for Fever and in her last three games she has really grown, defended strongly and won a lot of ball.
While Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard continues to improve and develop her game which is scary to think she can still get better. Her battle with the Thunderbirds defenders will be a highlight of this encounter.
This week, we welcome Tania Obst, Shamera SterlingHumphrey and the Adelaide Thunderbirds to RAC Arena and we are all looking forward to experiencing an amazing game of Suncorp Super Netball.
The Thunderbirds are coming off a strong win over the Mavericks in Melbourne and their form line is really good, having lost only one match to the undefeated Vixens.
Their Jamaican Defensive combination of Sterling-Humphrey and Latanya Wilson will go head-to-head with their compatriots and it will be a battle which is sure to excite.
While at the other end of the court, Kadie-Ann, Fran Williams and Sunday Aryang will be out to quell the influence of Thunderbirds Goal Shooter Romelda Aiken-George, who crossed over to Adelaide during the off-season from the Swifts.
There are no easy games in SSN and today will be no different, so make sure you get right behind our team, make lots of noise and let’s attack another win at our Green Fortress.

Fever are ready for some sunshine
West Coast Fever will take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds this Saturday at RAC Arena, a match that will feature up to six Jamaican Sunshine Girls on a Suncorp Super Netball court.
Fever have kept their perfect record intact after their 36-goal win against the Queensland Firebirds, their fifth win from five games.
The Firebirds clash saw Dan Ryan implement some new combinations across the court, young gun
Olivia Wilkinson made the crowd roar with her 15 goals, five of those being supershots.
In a heartwarming moment for the Green Army, 11th player Ruth Aryang made her SSN debut, playing alongside older sister Sunday. Ruth didn’t debut quietly, managing two deflections and an intercept.
The Thunderbirds are coming off their fourth win for the season, and currently sit third on the ladder. The teams met twice in 2023, with both games decided by one-goal.
International teammates will turn rivals in the goal circle as Thunderbird Sunshine Girl Shamera Sterling-Humphrey will attempt to stop the

shooting abilities of Shanice Beckford and Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard.
Fever’s defence will be strong in the Thunderbirds’ goal end as Fever’s in-form defender Kadie-Ann Dehaney looks to shut down Romelda AikenGeorge.
Thunderbird Goal Attack Lauren Frew will need to have quick reflexes as she takes on Sunday Aryang and Fran Williams who is currently leading the league in defensive rebounds.
Latanya Wilson will be focused on shutting down Alice Teague-Neeld’s influence on the contest as she currently leads the league for goal assists.
Head Coach Dan Ryan said Fever are excited to come up against the defending champions.
“Statistically we’re the best attacking team and they’re the best defensive team so strategy, skills and individual matchups are going to be important,” he said.
“I think the Jamaicans are going to love going head-to-head, six of them on the court is going to be ferocity and flare everywhere, they’re as good friends as they are rivals.”

West Coast Fever took out their fifth win from five games in front of a roaring crowd of 6213 at RAC Arena against the Queensland Firebirds 94-58.
Fever managed an impressive 36-goal margin against the Queensland side, utilising new combinations and a Suncorp Super Netball debut for Ruth Aryang.
The absence of Kelsey Browne (load management) saw Dan Ryan implement new combinations across the court. Captain Jess Anstiss put on the centre bib and Sunday Aryang saw herself in Wing Defence for the first time this season.
Fran Williams was a superstar in defence with two deflections across the quarter, whilst the Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and Shanice Beckford partnership just continues to get stronger.
Two supershots from Beckford helped Fever build a 10-goal lead at the first change.
Fever’s defence was the star of the second quarter, with Williams three defensive rebounds, Kadie- Ann Dehaney’s two intercepts and a deflection from both Beckford and Jordan Cransberg exciting the Green Army.
Alice Teague -Neeld’s nine goal assists paired nicely with her 12 feeds for the quarter, and Beckford ended the first half with a 100 per cent shooting accuracy for her six goals, including two super shots.
It was the new kids on the block that created the loudest cheers in the third quarter, Olivia Wilkinson made her start with three straight goals and ended the quarter with a total of nine including three super shots.
Ruth collected one defensive rebound, one intercept and two deflections, keeping the pressure on Firebird Donnel Wallam, while her sister Sunday stayed strong with a deflection in Wing Defence.
The fourth quarter saw another new Fever pairing, with Wilkinson and Beckford together in goals, the duo ended the final seconds of the match with a supershot each.
Teague-Neeld’s fantastic game ended with a mammoth three deflections in the final quarter, and a total of 45 feeds and 33 goal assists.
Fever’s huge final score was achieved through the magic of Fowler-Nembhard’s 62 goals, alongside Wilkinson’s 15 and Beckford’s eight.
As Netball WA celebrates its centenary year, associations around WA celebrate the domino affect of that success with their own milestone anniversaries.
Northam Netball Association celebrated their 75th Anniversary with a morning tea to thank life members recently.
Northam Netball Association and Netball WA Life Member Adele Simmons said the morning was a wonderful success, with 15 Life Members in attendance very pleased with the celebrations.
“Our Life Members and dignitaries watched the parade of all of the associations teams alongside the opening ceremony which was great,” Ms Simmons said.
“They were even able to see the little Woolworths NetSetGO kids play, which they all loved.”
Although a regional association, Northam have a long history of success across all of Perth. The association was represented at State League level by the Wheatbelt Flames Netball Club until 2018 and have had much success in the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships.
When reflecting on the Association’s history, it wasn’t
the success that stood out the most to Ms Simmons, instead memories the players, staff and families have made over the years.
Ms Simmons recalled, through fits of laughter, the early mornings travelling to carnivals around the State and the challenges that brought.
“Every time we travelled, we’d have to get up at the crack of dawn and sleep on the bus,” she said.
“Often, we’d be late, and the girls would be running up and down the aisles to warm up.
“One time the bus didn’t even show up. The athletes were just stuck outside the post office with all of their luggage at 5am.”
The volunteers, like many associations, are the heart and soul of Northam netball. Ms Simmons described the
“Netball Ladies” of the past as having dedicated their entire Saturdays to netball over the years.
Now, after 75 years of history, the volunteers and staff who have supported Northam throughout the years toast to the committee of today as they pass the baton on and hope for another 75 years of success.
West Coast Fever has named their squad for Super Netball Reserves, a new pilot program to bolster high performance pathway opportunities.
Seven Suncorp Super Netball teams will participate in the advanced match play pilot program, which will support talent identification and to provide additional match play for athletes on the cusp of Suncorp Super Netball.
General Manager - Performance and Pathways Sue Gaudion said the Club pushed hard for this concept to be trialled and was looking forward to providing athletes more opportunities.
“Super Netball Reserves is going to provide our up-and-coming WA pathway athletes with greater opportunities to test their wares against the best from around the country,” Gaudion said.
“It will also allow us to manage workloads in our SSN environment and if one or more of our West Coast Fever contracted athletes need more court time, Super Netball Reserves provides that for them.”
The Club has appointed Guy Keane as Head Coach, a move which Gaudion said was an easy decision.
“Guy Keane joined our environment in late 2022 and his impact across the club and our pathway programs has been immense,” she said.
“Guy did a great job at the Australian Netball Championships last year with our Reserves group and he has secured two medals in consecutive years with our State 17/U team which makes him a standout option to guide this group.”

The last time West Coast Fever took on the Adelaide Thunderbirds, the Fever travelled to Adelaide for Round 11 of the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season.
The match ended in the Fever’s fourth one-goal loss of the season, after the Thunderbirds came from behind to secure the win at Netball SA Stadium, 54-53.
After quarter time, the Thunderbirds came out looking like a different team, ramping up their defensive pressure across the court, led by Goal Keeper Shamera Sterling.
Q1: WCF 20 | THU 12
The visitors started strongly to silence the Adelaide crowd, building a six-goal lead heading into Power 5 off the back of strong defensive pressures across the court.
Even an early Super Shot from Georgie Horjus couldn’t stop Fever as they continued to control the game and build on their solid start.
Fever had three Deflections and three Intercepts for the quarter which was the catalyst for an eight goal lead at the break.
Q2: WCF 31 | THU 26
Both sides ramped up the defensive pressure in the second quarter as Shamera Sterling made her presence felt helping to reduce the Fever lead to seven at half time.
She finished the quarter with five Gains and four Deflections, making life especially tough for the Fever attack.
Captain Courtney Bruce was also crucial in defence with two Gains, two Deflections and two Rebounds for the quarter.
Sasha Glasgow continued her hot hand, sinking two Super Shots to ensure Fever maintained a lead at the main change.
Thunderbirds continued to put defensive pressure on Fever as they controlled the third quarter, reducing the Fever lead to three goals at Power 5.
Sterling, Wilson and Williams made it difficult for Fever to get easy shots on goal.
Sunday Aryang and Jess Anstiss had great quarters for Fever in defence creating three Gains and two Intercepts between them.
Q4: WCF 53 | THU 54
The game ebbed and flowed in the final quarter as both sides put significant defensive heat on their opposition.
Eleanor Caldwell scored two Super Shots to give the Thunderbird the lead and from there the Fever were up against it.
A late Super Shot from Glasgow reduced the margin to one but the Thunderbirds controlled the final minute, milking the clock and denying Fever the ball.
