RACE US TO REAL ZERO

2022 was an unforgettable year for our great club. We achieved our dreams and created history for Netball in this State. It was a premiership 25 years in the making and the hard work, commitment, sacrifice and passion from so many, came to fruition on 3 July in front of 14,000 of the best Netball fans on the planet. It was a very special time that we will cherish forever.
But here we are! Season 2023, a blank canvas, and anyone’s game. We’ve been grinding away for the past 20 weeks of pre-season, conditioning our bodies, building our skills, refining our combinations and challenging each other every single session.
We’ve achieved a lot over the pre-season, including winning Team Girls Cup on the Gold Coast. We’ve also played the WA and Victorian Men’s team and hosted the Adelaide Thunderbirds. All those opportunities have allowed us to utilise the depth within our squad and ticked many boxes in our preparation towards Round 1.
This year, nine of our premiership players return to the team and we welcome to the Fever family, Kim Jenner, who will be donning the green dress for the first time today. Kim replaces club legend Stacey Francis-Bayman, who announced her retirement at the end of last season. Kim has added real firepower to our backline and I think she’s ready for a big year!
So that brings us here today! Our season opener in front of our passionate, loyal, league leading supporters, THE GREEN ARMY! It’s a grand final rematch against Melbourne Vixens to kick off the season and the first time we are back at RAC Arena since the premiership win. Playing in front of you all last year was a privilege and a real highlight, and we can’t wait to do it all again.
I’d like to welcome the Melbourne Vixens to Perth, led by Head Coach Simone McKinnis and Co-Captains Liz Watson and Kate Maloney. We look forward to a great game of high-quality Netball today and wish you well for the season ahead.
So GREEN ARMY, it’s game time! We can’t wait to ATTACK the 2023 season and it starts today. So, get behind us, believe in us and let’s turn RAC Arena into our Fortress! Go Fever!
Dan Ryan Head Coach WEST COAST FEVERWest Coast Fever have endured a tough but successful pre-season campaign which has the squad ready to attack the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Fever has played nine matches in a comprehensive schedule which saw them play men’s and Super Netball opposition.
The highlight for Fever was the Team Girls Cup victory on the Gold Coast.
The Fever lost their first game of the Team Girls Cup to the NSW Swifts. The Swifts controlled the second quarter with 10 consecutive goals on their way to a 41-37 win.
Trailing by 10 goals at three quarter time, the Fever looked a different team in the final quarter. Fever drew within a point of the Swifts before three consecutive goals to Romelda Aiken-George put an end to the Fever’s charge.
On the Saturday, Fever played back-to-back matches and secured two vital victories.
In the morning session, Fever put together another strong last quarter to secure their first victory of the Team Girls Cup, overcoming the Sunshine Coast Lightning 46-43.
Fever found themselves down at three quarter time for the second game of the tournament and needed another strong finish.
They started strong feeding Jhaniele Fowler and she responded with five of the first six goals to get the lead back.
In the second match, West Coast Fever kept their Team Girls Cup grand final hopes alive with a 5343 win over the Collingwood Magpies.
Fever set up their victory with a dominant Power Time in the third quarter with three supershots
in a row, two to Sasha Glasgow and one to Nat Butler, to extend their lead to 10 goals at the last break.
Fever then needed results to go their way and luckily Sunshine Coast Lightning defeated the NSW Swifts to see Fever progress to the grand final.
The grand final against the Adelaide Thunderbirds was a tight encounter for the first three quarters with scores locked at the first two breaks.
Leading by a single goal going into the last quarter, Fever came out firing as they scored seven of the first nine goals of the quarter to opening up a lead.
The Fever outscored the Thunderbirds 14-7 to win the match 49-41 with Sasha Glasgow was named grand final Player of the Match.
It their other pre-season clashes, Fever played the WA Men’s Team as well as two clashes against the Victorian Men’s and then wrapped up the campaign with two against the Thunderbirds.
While the result against the Victorian Men’s didn’t go the Fever’s way, the side produced a much better performance in Game Two narrowly going down 57-61.
The Fever split their series with the Thunderbirds one-all.
In Game One, the Thunderbirds lead from start to finish in a tough, physical encounter and held off a fast finishing Fever to secure a four-goal win 56-52.
Fever rebounded in Game Two, rounding out their pre-season campaign with a resounding 64-49 victory, outscoring the visitors by 11 goals in the final quarter.

The 2023 Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League Men’s Competition is shaping as another exciting season.
Defending champions Western Roar will be looking to continue their winning streak after going through 2022 undefeated with a 14-0 record.
Looking to challenge the Roar will be grand finalist the Hamersley Comets, three-time champions West Coast Warriors and the improving Southside Demons.
In an exciting change to the Men’s Competition, the third round of fixtures will see the teams play each other in a hybrid version of Fast5 netball.
The Fast5 format sees only five players on court with different scoring areas meaning sides can score one, two or three points. All matches during this round will be short and sharp, with four 10-minute quarters with the team that wins the toss choosing the goal end and taking the first centre pass in the first and third quarters.
The first six minutes of each quarter teams can score one and two-point shots and the final four minutes of each quarter, goalers
can shoot outside the goal circle for a three-point shot.
Reigning premiers Western Roar will be hoping to build on what was a very successful 2022 campaign.
Roar’s squad will take on a new look and be a blend of youth and experience with some incredibly exciting, athletic and ferociously competitive young talent, who are ready to forge their own path in the Men’s Competition.
They will be looking to their shooting end to once again be dominant with Max Denholm the key with his more than 90 per cent shooting percentage and ability to score 300 goals a season.
The Hamersley Comets are ready to build on last year’s grand final finish and are eager to see the impact their newest additions will bring to their team.
The Comets have farewelled Joel Anderson and Blake Smith into retirement while Elliot Clark has relocated to New Zealand. Replacing them will be defenders Liam Bailye and Dale Mather, midcourters, the speedy Mark McCoach and the versatile Declan Mensing and Corey Goss will bolster the shooting line.
Southside Demons have retained a core group of athletes from last season and will be looking to continue building the foundation and style of play that is uniquely Demons.
Coach Mandy Love said the Demons were also fortunate to pick up some exciting talent from their trials.
“We are looking at showcasing [that talent] throughout the season and the Rapid Round format.
“Our goal is to earn the right to play in the Grand Final and we are looking forward to challenging not only ourselves but all other teams in the process.”
After narrowly missing out on a spot in last year’s decider, the West Coast Warriors are entering the 2023 season with a newfound energy and focus.
A new Coaching team of Hannah Irving and Player-Coach Jason Heard are ready to claim back the premiership title and the team has been able to keep the core playing group from last year. Add in some talented young guns who are ready to step up and the team has a chance to reclaim premiership glory.
“There is a fresh energy and vibe within the group this year,” Heard said.
“We were obviously disappointed to miss out on the Grand Final last year, but I think that has lit the fire for a lot of us.
“We know we have to come together as a team and perform under pressure if we want to improve. I have no doubt we have the right group to take it all the way in 2023.”
The Warriors will be looking to West Coast Fever Training Partner Jerome Gillbard to lead from the front.
The Australian Goal Shooter said he was excited to see how the Warriors would go in 2023.
“We’ve got a few new faces, some exciting young talent, some more ‘experienced’ faces, which I think will put us in good stead for the season,” he said.
“We were really disappointed to miss out on making the Grand Final last year and are out to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
Gillbard said netball fans looking for excitement in 2023, needed to go no further than the Men’s Competition.
“There have been a few changes across all four sides and it could honestly be anyone’s game on each night.
“I think that makes for an exciting game to watch and hopefully a good spectacle for those that watch.”
The future of the Men’s Competition is looking bright with Souwest Jets commencing their Mavericks Academy program aimed at young boys keen to hone their netball skills. The program will hopefully help the Jets to meet their goal of developing a Men’s Team to make its GIG WANL debut in 2024.

at RAC Arena in the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final on Sunday, July 3.
Fever won every quarter and led by as much as 14 goals, with every player on the court performing at the highest standard when it mattered most to take down minor premiers Melbourne Vixens in the season decider.
Vixens scored first off the opening centre pass and led early before sensational defence from Courtney Bruce created a turnover to see Fever hit the front and move ahead by three goals.
Who will ever forget the last time these two sides met!
West Coast Fever claimed the club’s maiden National League Premiership with a spectacular win in front of a record crowd
The Vixens reduced the margin to one entering the power five before Grand Final MVP Sasha Glasgow hit her first Suncorp Super Shot attempt and then sunk another to extend Fever’s advantage to four goals at quarter time.
The teams traded goals to start the second term before the Vixens had a run to reduce the margin to a goal. However Fever responded and reinstated a five-goal lead at the midway point of the quarter, seeing the Vixens take a timeout.
Fever edged ahead to a 35-29 lead at half time, with Fowler taking her individual total to 26 goals and Glasgow increasing hers to six, including three Super Shots.
Fever maintained their six-goal lead through to the halfway mark of the third quarter before another Glasgow Super Shot as the power five commenced increased the margin to eight.
Intense defence forced a Vixens held ball and helped Fever lead by 11 before a Vixens’ Super Shot saw the scoreboard read 54-45 at the final break.
Fever increased their lead to 12 as the fourth quarter commenced and maintained that buffer until the middle of the term
when Stacey Francis-Bayman entered the game to roar from the Green Army.
Fever still led by 12 entering the power five and finished the job, sealing the win in front of a record netball crowd at RAC Arena.

West Coast Fever will be looking to start their 2023 Suncorp Super Netball campaign with a victory in front of the Green Army at RAC Arena.
In their way is Melbourne Vixens, who will be looking to avenge last season’s grand final loss.
The Fever has made one change to their playing roster with defender Kim Jenner joining from the Firebirds replacing retired premiership player Stacey Francis-Bayman.
As proven at Team Girls Cup, should Fever need any replacements the depth in the training partner squad is deep. The Cransberg sisters, Jordan and Zoe, the returning Nat Butler (nee Medhurst) and Ruth Aryang will provide coach Dan Ryan with plenty of options if they are required.
Fever rounded out their pre-season campaign with the Team Girls Cup win and a resounding victory over Adelaide in Perth.
The Vixens Team Girls Cup campaign saw last season’s minor premiers finish with a two and two record.
SAT 18 MAR 4PM
After winning their first match against the GIANTS, the Vixens lost both their games on the Saturday to the Thunderbirds and Firebirds.
They finished the tournament by defeating Sunshine Coast Lightning by one goal in the 3rd v 4th playoff match.
The interest in this clash will be the battles at each end of the court.
Will it be the Fever defence of Courtney Bruce and Sunday Aryang who stop and then counterattack against Kiera Austin and Mwai Kumwenda. Or will Austin use her experience in the Diamonds’ environment over the summer to help lead the Vixens to victory.
While the Vixens defence will come up against last season’s MVP Jhaniele Fowler and grand final MVP Sasha Glasgow.
The big question is who will get the job to stop Fowler? Jo Weston, Emily Mannix or former Fever player Olivia Lewis.

the Open Division, Rangers, Sharks and Comets started their 2023 campaigns with solid wins.
It was the centre court who shone in Round One with strong performances from Rangers Captain Kate Bunten, while Jess Repacholi from Sharks was impactful in her time through the middle.
West Coast Fever Training Partner Jordan Cransberg made her GIG WANL debut for the Comets and did not disappoint with a dominant performance in Centre.
Big crowds attended the opening round of the 2023 Gold Industry Group WA Netball League season at Gold Netball Centre.
The Western Roar left off where their 2022 Season ended by winning all their games in each division including two grand final rematches.
The Open grand final rematch started the season and the Roar dominated from start to finish defeating Warriors by 24 goals with the Roar combination of Sophia Lamers and Emma Putt combining for 50 goals at 89 per cent. In other matches in
It was a similar story for Roar in the Men’s, as they jumped the Comets to lead by 14 goals at quarter time and extended their lead at each change to record a 66-26 victory. Max Denholm led the way with 49 out of Roar’s 66 goals, shooting at 94 per cent accuracy in an ominous sign for the rest of the competition.
In the other Men’s clash, scores were tight with only two goals in it at half time, the Warriors stamped their authority on the match and pulled away from Demons in the second half. Jason Heard of Warriors and Dylan Gunn of Demons were standouts for their sides.
In the 20’s divisions, it was Sharks, Demons, Rangers and Roar taking the win to kickstart their 2023 campaigns.
