RACE US TO REAL ZERO

With two one-goal wins on the board against the Vixens and Giants to kick start our season, we are looking forward to being back on our home court today, ready to fight for our third consecutive win.
Both our matches so far, have been absolute blockbusters and the overall quality of netball being played has been great to see. I’ve really enjoyed watching how composed and poised the players have been under such enormous pressure to secure those wins. It’s a great sign for things to come, especially this early in the season.
Round 1 was a special moment for the team, our first time back on RAC Arena in front of the Green Army since the premiership win last year. It was also the first-time new recruit Kim Jenner stepped on court in the green dress. It’s great to now add Kim into the club’s history as she officially becomes Fever player 122.
Round 2 was also an amazing result for the team! How about that match winning intercept in the final seconds by Jess Anstiss! That’s why she’s our vice-captain. When something needs to be done, she finds a way. Speaking of finding a way, Jhaniele Fowler is in ominous form in goal with two 100 per cent shooting games so far. But as J says, there’s always room for improvement!
So that brings us here today as we take on the Collingwood Magpies and we do need to step up. The Magpies have had a great start to the season and are playing some brilliant netball. They are already showing they will be one of the real contenders this year. To beat them, we are going to have to be at the top of our game.
I’d like to welcome the Pies to Perth, led by Head Coach, Nicole Richardson and Co-Captains, Geva Mentor and Ash Brazil. We look forward to a hotly contested, fast paced game of netball today. Whatever happens, it’s going to be a great contest.
So GREEN ARMY, it’s game time! Today is going to be an absolute arm wrestle. So, get behind us, believe in us and let’s turn RAC Arena into our Fortress
Go Fever!
Dan Ryan Head Coach WEST COAST FEVERWest Coast Fever won back-to-back one-goal thrillers with a Round Two 74-73 win over the Giants at Ken Rosewell Arena.
Fever led by 11 goals at three quarter time but the Giants came out firing in the final quarter to even scores on the back of three supershots.
With 52 seconds left on the clock, scores were level and Fever had the ball.
The team responded to the moment to control the ball and the game to feed Fowler for her 59th goal and gain a one goal lead.
The Giants had 17 seconds to score and with less than 10 seconds left Vice Captain Jess Anstiss came up with the crucial intercept to deny the Giants the chance to score and secure the points.
Quarter by Quarter
Q1: WCF 21 | GIANTS 20
The first quarter was a tight tussle as the Giants were boosted by the return of Jo Harten whose presence was big throughout the contest.
Trailing by a goal going into the Power 5, Fever took some control and Sasha Glasgow capitalise with two supershots. While Jhaniele Fowler continued her perfect start to the season with 16 goals at 100 per cent.
Q2: WCF 40 | GIANTS 37
Glasgow continued her influential play, supported by Alice Teague-Neeld and Sunday Aryang, who made two intercepts.
The Fever controlled the second quarter and built a handy 10-goal lead with three minutes to play.
However, Giants gained the momentum in the Power 5, scoring four supershots to reduce the margin to three goals at the half.
Q3: WCF 63 | GIANTS 52
Anstiss’ move to Centre paid dividends as she helped Fever maintain control of the third quarter. While Captain Courtney Bruce pulled down two rebounds, one intercept and two deflections for the quarter.
Teague-Neeld and Glasgow continued to cause headaches for the Giants as they controlled the ball as Fever fed Fowler.
The teams traded goals for most of the third quarter but Fever maintained control to extend their lead to seven goals heading into the Power 5.
While the Giants again took advantage of the supershot, Glasgow matched the Giants three with three of her own as Fever outscored the Giants by four in the final five minutes.
Q4: WCF 74 | GIANTS 73
The fourth quarter was all the Giants as they came out firing and reduced the Fever’s lead to four goals heading into the Power 5.
The Giants scored three supershots to even the scores with less than a minute on the clock.
Fever responded to the moment and controlled the ball to allow Fowler to make a shot and gain a one-goal lead.
Then as the Giants were charging, Anstiss pulled out a crucial intercept with less than 10 seconds to deny the Giants the opportunity to score and secure the points away from home.
From there, the Roar went to work, winning the third quarter and holding onto that lead throughout a tight final quarter.
Aisha Morcombe and Rylee Hall combined for 37 goals for Roar while Indi Strom was the focal point for the Sharks, finishing with 31 goals from 34 attempts.
It was another four-goal result in the other 20/U Friday night clash as the Demons edged out Warriors 52-48 to remain undefeated in season 2023.
The Warriors started strong to lead by five at the first break and then Demons responded to level the scores at half time. Warriors then edged out the Demons in the third quarter to lead by a solidarity goal going into the final break.
Friday Night Netball at the Gold Netball Centre produced two cracking matches in the Gold Industry Group WA Netball League 20/U Division.
Reigning premiers Western Roar continued their undefeated start with a four-goal over the Sharks.
The Roar jumped out of the box to lead by four goals at the first break before the Sharks, led by their Captain Ava Robson who was dominating in the midcourt, fought back in the second quarter to trail by one at the main change.
From there, Demons Captain and attacking playmaker Georgia Ettridge took charge and helped her side regain control and win the last quarter to seal a four-goal win. Chelsea Cook scored 39 goals for the Demons, while Lily Gilsenan led the way for the Warriors with 36 goals at 95 per cent.
Round 4 of GIG WANL is Gold Round which celebrates the ongoing partnership between Netball WA and the Gold Industry Group.
West Coast Fever treated fans to a memorable Mother’s Day victory at RAC Arena when they last faced the Collingwood Magpies.
Fever came from behind to claim a 74-69 win over the Magpies in Round 8 of the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball season.
With the visitors leading by two goals at three-quarter time, and then extending that lead to four in the opening minutes of the final term, Fever dug deep and showed great composure to reclaim the lead and push ahead in the dying minutes.
A Suncorp Super Shot by Sasha Glasgow put the icing on the cake, following a penalty just before the final whistle. She finished the game with four from longrange, while Jhaniele Fowler was at her usual best, scoring 61 goals at 97 per cent accuracy.
With both teams looking for a breakthrough during an intense final quarter, an interception by Stacey Francis-Bayman proved to be a pivotal moment.
With less than six minutes remaining in the game and Fever trailing by three goals, Francis-Bayman’s hustle at the top of Fever’s defensive circle resulted in the gain, which gave her side great confidence and momentum heading into the Power 5.
The entire team then showed great composure to control play and Glasgow converted all three of her Super Shot attempts to help seal a great win.
1st – WCF 17 | COLL 16
Early nerves saw both sides turn the ball over before Fever hit the scoreboard through Fowler. The teams then traded goals, with Fowler scoring all 17 of Fever’s for the quarter while Shimona Nelson scored 13 for the Magpies and Sophie Garbin added three. Teague-Neeld was creative early with 10 goal assists, while Bruce caused headaches for the Magpies attackers with five deflections in the opening term.
2nd – WCF 19 | COLL 19
The arm wrestle continued with scores level through to the midway point of the second quarter. Zoe Cransberg entered the game at Centre and worked hard through the midcourt, while Teague-Neeld continued finding an avenue to Fowler with eight goal assists. Rudi Ellis moved into Goal Keeper after a time-out, releasing Bruce to Goal Defence. A Super Shot to Glasgow right before the half time whistle saw Fever lead 36-35 at the main break.
3rd – WCF 16 | COLL 19
Fever returned to their starting seven for the third term and an Aryang intercept in the opening minutes helped Fever build a three-goal lead, which they maintained through to the Power 5. Simmons landed awkwardly and left the court with a minute
remaining before a Garbin Super Shot helped the Magpies hit the front for a three-quarter time lead of 54-52.
4th – WCF 22 | COLL 15
Cosh brought great energy to Goal Attack for the start of the final quarter but the Magpies gathered momentum and moved ahead by four points before a Fever timeout halfway through the quarter. Glasgow retuned to the game and had an immediate impact with a pair of Super Shots putting Fever up by two with four minutes remaining. After some great defensive efforts, they controlled the tempo and extended their advantage to four with less than two minutes on the clock. Another Glasgow Super Shot on the final whistle sealed the win 74-69.
West Coast Fever will be looking to continue their undefeated start to the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season when they take on the Collingwood Magpies at RAC Arena. Both sides are coming off one-goal thrillers. The Fever won their clash with the Giants while the Magpies are coming off a loss in the Melbourne Derby to the Vixens.
The Vixens snatched victory from the Magpies after Mwai Kumwenda slotted four Suncorp Super Shots in the dying momentsincluding one after the final whistle.
But the win was marred by an error in the final term in which the Vixens were awarded two centre passes in a row.
The Magpies won every quarter but the last and were consistent in their game plan. They fed the ball with incredible accuracy to shooter Shimona Nelson throughout the game, and the Vixens were unable to put a stop to it.
The Pies also stuck to what was working for them, with the mid-court showing great vision to be able to work it up and over to their GS.
The match ups at the Fever’s attacking end are mouth watering and could decide the match.
Jhaniele Fowler is shooting at 100 per cent so far this season and will be up against English international Geva Mentor in the circle.
While the in-form Jamaican international Jodi-Ann Ward will provide an obstacle for Fever’s attack by using her athleticism and ability to read to play to stop the home team.
She will be opposed to Sasha Glasgow who is coming off a terrific performance against the Giants. Glasgow scored five goals and five supershots and finished with more than 100 Nissan Net Points.
SUN 2 APRIL 12PM
Sasha Glasgow and Alice Teague-Neeld combined for 51 of Fever’s 65 goal assists against the Giants with Fowler capitalising with another perfect game in the circle. Fowler has scored 114 of Fever’s 136 goals in the first two games of the season.
While at the other end of the court, Courtney Bruce and Sunday Aryang had 12 gains, six intercepts and seven deflections as they attempted to nullify the Giants combination of Jo Harten and Sophie Dwyer.
For the Magpies, Shimona Nelson shot a near perfect game, finishing with 47/48 and taking her season tally to 100.
Jodi-Ann Ward backed up her amazing Round One display against the Swifts with another solid game in the Melbourne Derby. She finished with three gains, three deflections and three intercepts, to sit equal top in the competition for intercepts.
Kelsey Browne and Teague-Neeld have had nearly the same start to the season and the role each player plays for their team will be a major factor in the result. They sit even with 52 Centre Pass Receives, while Browne (47) is just ahead of Teague-Neeld (46) when it comes to Goal Assists.
