In addition to today’s big finals match-up, we also celebrate 100 National League Games for our Vice Captain Jess Anstiss. Jess is versatile, dependable, tough and this milestone is an amazing achievement for one of our Club’s greats – Well done Jess!
So, get behind us for the last time at home this season, believe in us and let’s turn RAC Arena into our Green Fortress! Go Fever!
Dan Ryan Head Coach WEST COAST FEVERWest Coast Fever lost their final regular season match last week to a fired-up Collingwood side 65-62 in Launceston ending the team’s top-two chances.
Moments that Mattered
Both teams came to put on a show for the Magpies’ final game in the Suncorp Super Netball competition. Courtney Bruce epitomised this with plenty of her trademark Intercepts and Deflections throughout the game.
In the dying seconds of the game with three goals the margin, Fever had a chance to stage a remarkable comeback thanks to a Sunday Aryang intercept. A Super Shot and another score off Fever’s centre pass would have tied or won the game but in the end the pass to Jhaniele Fowler went over the baseline to quell any opportunity.
Quarter by Quarter
Q1: WCF 15 | COL 16
The first quarter was a cagey affair for both sides as the players were trying to find their footing.
Bruce was able to capitalise on some errant goal shooting by Collingwood as she picked up two Gains and four Deflections to keep Fever a whisker away from the Magpies.
The margin never surpassed two goals as Collingwood’s defensive duo of Geva Mentor and Jodi-Ann Ward were able to contest with Fever’s offence.
Q2: WCF 32 | COL 32
The close contest continued through the second term as there was nothing to split the two sides once again. Fever managed to get back some control early in the quarter and take the lead with the centre pass.
Alice Teague-Neeld had a strong performance with eight Goal Assists and 10 Feeds in the term. Teague-Neeld and Verity Simmons won a tough mid court battle full of fireworks against Ash Brazill and Maddie Hinchliffe.
Neither team were perfect and Super Shots were few and far between in the first half meaning the scores finished level at the main break.
Q3:
Dan Ryan shifted up the midcourt and defence as Simmons came off for Kim Jenner who slotted in at Goal Defence while Jess Anstiss moved to Centre and Sunday Aryang to Wing Defence.
After eight minutes of back and forth scoring, it was Fever who blinked first and gave away two turnovers to fall behind.
Not even an impressive Deflection from Sasha Glasgow which led to a Gain was enough to get Fever back in it as robust midcourt pressure from Collingwood made life difficult for feeding into Fowler.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Ryan switched the lineup back to the starting seven as he looked for ways to get back in the game.
Bruce led from the front, doing everything she could to reduce the margin. With two Intercepts she did just that and by the eleventh minute Fever drew level.
Collingwood were able to nudge ahead again by five goals and held on for the win despite a Fowler Super Shot and a late turnover giving Fever a glimmer of hope.

Fever down Vixens in Round One Thriller
West Coast Fever prevailed with an electrifying 6261 win in the 2022 Grand Final rematch against the Melbourne Vixens at RAC Arena in Round One.
Fever raced out the blocks, leading by five goals at the end of the first quarter. From there however, a spirited Vixens team kept the reigning premiers within reaching distance.
In the end it was star Goal Shooter Jhaniele Fowler who sealed the game, scoring the winning goal in the dying seconds of the game.
The Fever shone from both ends of the court with the defensive team of Goal Keeper Courtney Bruce and Goal Defence Sunday Aryang regularly putting their bodies on the line to prevent the Vixens from leading at any point.
The duo combined for nine gains, including two intercepts for Bruce and five deflections for Aryang, proving crucial in the final quarter.
Quarter by Quarter
Q1: WCF 17 | VIX 12
Fever started the game on the right foot, forcing a turnover in the very first play. From there, Fever worked hard to bring the lead to five goals at the close of the first quarter. Fowler’s superb shooting

Q2: WCF 32 | VIX 28
The second quarter was a period of two halves with the Vixens pulling back the game to level before a Dan Ryan initiated time-out brought a well-timed break. When play resumed Fever enjoyed much of the play their way, highlighted by an effort by Goal Keeper Bruce to gain the ball while falling to the ground.
Q3: WCF 48 | VIX 46
Fever lead was reduced to a solidarity goal thanks to a fired-up Vixens team but from there Fever fought back to bring the lead to six. Excellent feeding by Centre Verity Simmons and TeagueNeeld to Glasgow was on full display. Jenner was brought on for her first appearance in Fever colours, impressing at Goal Defence.
Q4: WCF 62 | VIX 61
Fever were pushed down to the wire as the Vixens brought the scores level with just over four minutes to go. Glasgow scored a clutch Super Shot with just 70 seconds left on the clock before Vixen’s Kiera Austin responded with her own. The game came down to the final second as Fowler capped off her flawless performance with her buzzer beating 55th goal.

Q2: WCF 35 | VIX 37

While Glasglow shot five Super Shots from six attempts and Jhaniele Fowler had 23 goals at 100 per cent.
Q3: WCF 54 | VIX 53

Glasglow scored her eighth Super Shot of the match to give the Fever a one-goal before Austin secured the win.

Last Week
Fever faced Collingwood in Launceston in what was a close affair.
There was almost nothing to split the two sides through the first half as the margin never exceeded two goals. When Fever did turn over the ball, Courtney Bruce often found a way to get her team back in possession with three Gains and five Deflections before the main break.
Halfway through the third quarter, Fever were the first to blink and Collingwood seized on the opportunity and built up a seven-goal lead.
Despite a strong fourth quarter, where Fever brought scores back level, the Magpies were determined to get their fairy tale ending as they just edged ahead come the final whistle.
The Vixens also had their final regular season game thwarted by the opposition, as the Giants came from behind to win 60-57.
A strong start from Diamonds captain Liz Watson helped her side push forward early in a tough opening quarter. As the game progressed, the Vixens slowly edged further forward but the Giants never let the deficit blow out.
Despite leading for almost the entire game, the Giants pulled level with two and half minutes left on the clock. The Giants showed why they have one of the most feared Super Shot attacks in Suncorp Super Netball as they sunk 10, including two in the final Power Five, to seal the win.
Match Ups
There will be five players battling it out on the court this week fresh off Diamonds World Cup selection. Three of those will be in Fever’s defensive circle with Bruce and Sunday Aryang facing up against Vixens Goal Attack Kiera Austin.
As one of the competition’s best defensive duos, the pair average more than nine Gains a match and will need to be on the ball to stop Austin’s range shooting. Throw in Malawi Goal Shooter Mwai Kumwenda under the post and it is bound to be a popcorn worthy battle.
On the other side of the court, Sasha Glasgow will be looking to repeat her performance from last time against the Vixens, scoring eight Super Shots. She’ll have to contend with Jo Weston in Goal Defence who
SUN 25 JUNE 2PM
was kept quiet back in round eight but will be buoyed by World Cup selection.
Last time the sides met, Alice Teague-Neeld had a great game but the Vixens’ stacked midcourt featuring the likes of Liz Watson and Kate Moloney will be an enthralling battle.
Along with Verity Simmons and Jess Anstiss, TeagueNeeld will battle for control over the midcourt and Fever hope to be able to do their trademark feeding into Jhaniele Fowler.
Stats and Facts
