Last week our West Coast Fever players attended the Suncorp NetSetGO Fun Day as part of Suncorp NetSetGO Week 2021. Suncorp NetSetGO is a fun and safe introduction to netball and is the best way for girls and boys aged 5 to 10 to have fun with their friends, keep active and learn the basic skills of netball in a safe and social environment. 300 participants gathered at the Gold Netball Centre over the space of a day to learn basic netball skills from Suncorp NetSetGO coaches and the Fever players themselves.!

West Coast Fever and the Melbourne Vixens meet at Nissan Arena in Brisbane in this rescheduled Round 8 fixture. Fever departed Perth during the week, while Vixens relocated from Adelaide to complete the remainder of the Suncorp Super Netball season in Brisbane along with the other SSN clubs. West Coast Fever coach Stacey Marinkovich said the team was eager to continue playing the season in Queensland. “It’s the same set up that we are going into as last year, so I think the group is really comfortable. We understand the surroundings and are just really looking forward to getting into another game,” Marinkovich said. “I’d really like to thank the green army and all of our club partners for their amazing support. We look forward to playing for them in Queensland.”
KEY MATCH UPS Jess Anstiss v Kate Moloney Jess Anstiss has provided a strong physical presence and been a key mid-court link for West Coast Fever this season. She was named at Centre in the Nissan Net Points Team of the Round last week after playing a key role in Fever’s 25-goal win over the Adelaide Thunderbirds with 15 goal assists from 23 feeds, four pick-ups and a gain.
She is expected to match up against Vixens’ co-captain Kate Moloney at Centre or on the Wing in this contest, with both players looking to lead by example and control the play through the mid-court.
Jhaniele Fowler v Emily Mannix Fever Goal Shooter Jhaniele Fowler has continued her impressive form in the circle this season, leading the competition in scoring with 549 goals at 96 per cent accuracy and dominating the Nissan Net Points leader board with 934.5 points, more than 200 ahead of her nearest competitor with a game in hand. The Vixens will be focussed on limiting Fowler’s impact on the game and will no doubt look to experienced Goal Keeper and vice-captain Emily Mannix, who had two intercepts and two gains playing on Fowler in Round 1.
Courtney Bruce v Mwai Kumwenda Fever captain Courtney Bruce has been in sparkling form this season and sits in the top three in the competition for intercepts, deflections and defensive rebounds with a game in hand over her nearest competitors. Last week she played a key role in Fever’s win over the Thunderbirds with four intercepts and six gains. This week she will be focussed on shutting down Vixens Goal Shooter Mwai Kumwenda, who is a proven threat both at the post and from long range with 305 goals at 88 per cent accuracy and 26 Suncorp Super-Shots at 52 per cent accuracy.

Chrishae and Dakoda end the term on a high Narrogin Shooting Stars participants Chrishae and Dakoda have ended the term on a high, both receiving Follow the Dream End of Term Awards.
“I am very proud of myself and thankful to Shooting Stars for the constant support and motivation to come to school and follow the dream.”
The Awards are given to Follow the Dream participants to recognise their excellence in a certain area.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz said participant achievements are at the core of the program’s success.
Year 7 Shooting Stars participant Chrishae said she felt proud to be recognised for her hard work this term, receiving the Most Improved Award.
“A big congratulations to these girls on their dedication to their studies this term,” said Haintz.
“I feel very happy and proud of myself,” said Chrishae. “Shooting Stars has helped me on this journey as they keep me motivated and drop me home after the Follow the Dream program.” Year 10 Shooting Stars participant, Dakoda, was also delighted to receive her Highest Achiever Award. “Just being recognised for my achievements and all my hard work this term is really nice,” said Dakoda.
“This is a perfect example of service providers collaboratively working together for the benefit of the community. It’s great to see Shooting Stars and Follow the Dream working together to achieve a common goal.” Follow the Dream is an initiative of the Polly Farmer Foundation that runs alongside Shooting Stars in many of our sites to help empower Aboriginal girls and women in regional communities.
