Your support will once again be the motivation spurring us to go one better as we fight for the ultimate prize against the Melbourne Vixens this Sunday.

Our state has once again shown they are behind Fever and this week city icons have turned green in support of the team. Thanks to the support of The West Australian on Friday for their special Fever poster in the newspaper.

Whilst we focus on Sunday, we also look towards a bright future. Sunday Aryang and Emma Cosh have both made their mark in the Queensland hub, earning player of the match performances respectively, whilst Courtney Kruta’s also made her debut last weekend showcasing the depth coming through the ranks. To see the entire squad playing their role throughout the season has been a highlight of the year.

Simon Taylor Managing Director WEST COAST FEVER It’s a been an incredible week and I couldn’t be more proud of the grit and determination that Stacey and the team have shown throughout a challenging 2020. To secure our place in the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final is an enormous achievement and the team has played on brand and with passion all season.

Knowing so many of you are there every week tuning into the broadcast, attending Club events and sending messages of support has meant the world to the team. It’s been a constant reminder that despite the distance and being away from you, we are united as one.

Our message to all Fever fans this weekend is simple. Tune into Channel 9 at 10am. Invite your family and friends and let’s turn our homes across the state into Fever watch parties. Channel 9 have shown their faith towards netball throughout Suncorp Super Netball and have done a great job in profiling our sport. Let’s make this Sunday’s broadcast the biggest watched yet.

We also thank the City of Perth for their support with both Yagan Square and Northbridge Piazza screening Sunday’s Grand Final from 10am WST. The team will give their all this Sunday in the biggest game of the year to inspire and make you proud. We greatly value your support.

FROM THE COACH coaching staff, fans and the netball WA community. We still have one more hurdle ahead of us, the Grand Final matchup against the Melbourne Vixens.

The Vixens have been the in-form team all season, dropping just the two games and drawing with us in Round 10. We’ve shown that our brand can match that of the Vixens, but it is going to take a full 60 minute commitment.

Finals brings the challenge of being able to compete while under pressure (perceived or real) and it will be the team that can stay connected and on task in those moments that will earn the win.

KEY MATCH UPS Courtney Bruce v Caitlin Thwaites Courtney Bruce has defended extremely well this finals series, strongly supported by the defensive pressure that has been accumulating up the court. The versatility, variation and connection of Fever’s defenders will need to be uncompromising when coming up against the experience of the Vixens attacking line. The battle will be on between Bruce and the in-form retiring Caitlin Thwaites. Vixens are also likely to rotate Mwai Kumwenda into the goal shooter role.

Verity Charles v Kate Moloney Both Kate Moloney and Verity Charles have had stand-out seasons playing their respective roles for their team. Moloney has shown unbelievable discipline with the ball whilst continuing to lead her side in challenging moments. Verity has influenced the efficiency of the Fever

attack with her dominating moves and work rate. The combination of Verity Charles, Emma Cosh and Jess Anstiss across the Fever midcourt has shown depth and a threat to any team when delivering the ball. The challenge for both teams is who can impact defensively and execute skills the longest when under the most intense pressure.

Jhaniele Fowler v Emily Mannix Jhaniele Fowler is a goal scoring machine and this week she said she has plenty of room for improvement.

She is coming up a tough opponent in Emily Mannix, but there is also the threat Vixens could follow in previous opponents’ tactics by double-teaming the Jamaican. Fowler’s accuracy for the season is remarkable at 94% with 910 goals scored for the season.

THE SITUATION

West Coast Fever are up against the League’s best performing club, the Melbourne Vixens, in this winner-takes-all Grand Final. Vixens have lost just two games in 2020 and drew another against Fever back in Round 10. Fever have played every game leading up to the Grand Final, where Vixens earned a week off after their semi-final win over Sunshine Coast Lightning. This Grand Final will see a true battle of game plans when you have Fever focussed on delivering a fast and dynamic style up against a Vixens line-up that prides itself on its full team defensive pressure. Vixens will be looking for the fairy tale ending for their two attackers Tegan Philip and Caitlin Thwaites who will retire after this game.

Shooting Stars’ personalised approach key to participant success Shooting Stars has concluded Term 3 with many participants reaching 90% and above in school attendance and attributes its success to the organisation’s personalised approach.

Kevi from Carnarvon has achieved 100% attendance for Term 3, a goal she set for herself in Term 2 and has been determined to reach ever since. Through the Shooting Stars program, Kevi highlighted that she would like to build on her confidence, with the Shooting Stars staff encouraging her to take part in activities outside of her comfort zone including public speaking and dancing.

Through her hard work and dedication, Kevi has been selected for numerous reward activities, including the 2020 Junior Leadership Camp in Broome and Rewards and Attendance Sleepovers. Shooting Stars will continue to support Kevi in her development and growth towards her goals and building her social confidence.

Letisha, a year 9 participant from Halls Creek, improved her attendance by 50% reaching an amazing attendance rate of 97% for Term 3. Letisha has shown a great interest in sport and has set herself goals to actively improve her sporting skills by getting involved in community sports events and the Shooting Stars programs.

Letisha has credited her achievement to the Shooting Stars program, identifying both the staff and Shooting Stars room at school as a safe and supportive place that she looks forward to coming to.

In Derby, Mikayla a year 5 student, has improved her attendance throughout 2020 by more than 40% compared to previous years, whilst in Narrogin Chelsea has finished term 3 with a perfect 100% attendance.

Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz said these attendance numbers are a testament to the importance Shooting Stars places on building relationships with each of its participants.

“Firstly, I’d like to congratulate these girls on their tremendous achievements,” said Haintz.

“Just as each site comes with its own specific challenges, each participant faces their own unique challenges. For us, it’s not enough to just be reaching our KPI’s at a site-level, we focus on the individuals and tailor our support style for each participant giving them the best opportunity to achieve success.”

“Through building strong relationships with our participants, our program provides an environment for our girls to grow and flourish.”
