FROM THE COACH While this decision is devastating for our Club, we’re still focused on the task at hand here in Queensland. I would like to thank those who worked tirelessly over the past three months in drafting plans to give our players every opportunity to play in Perth. To our fans, we are as disappointed as you are to not have the opportunity to play in front of you this season, but rest assured we will continue to give it our all.

To our partners who have continued to back us and support us through this unpredictable time, thank you. The branding of our home games away from home is amazing and in some way gives us a sense we have a home-court advantage.

Stacey Marinkovich Head Coach WEST COAST FEVER It’s safe to say that this has been a roller coaster week for West Coast Fever. On Tuesday night we put forward a strong, four quarter performance against the Collingwood Magpies to beat them for the second time this season and jump back into the top four. Our brand of netball was certainly evident across the match, and I was pleased with the way we bounced back from a poor performance the weekend prior.

Unfortunately, we were also hit with some disappointing news, with the League denying us the opportunity to return to Perth to play games at RAC Arena. Our plans were supported by all parties involved in Western Australia, and it was disappointing to have these plans declined. As a travelling party, coaching and playing group, and more broadly as a Club, we were very much looking forward to returning home to play in front of our passionate Members, fans and partners at RAC Arena.

FROM THE MANAGING DIRECTOR is deeply disappointed that the League and clubs were unable to provide West Coast Fever with an opportunity to overcome these concerns and that the opportunity to play in WA in front of the League’s best fans in what is indisputably the best venue in the league.

Simon Taylor Managing Director WEST COAST FEVER As you may be aware, we were hit with some disappointing news this week, where the Suncorp Super Netball League denied our club the opportunity to return to Perth to play games at RAC Arena.

This decision is devastating for our club, players, staff, members, partners and fans.

Over the last 12 weeks our Club has worked tirelessly to develop and secure a WA based hub for the delivery of Suncorp Super Netball fixtures in 2020 for our members, partners and fans. With the support of the State Government, WA Police and VenuesWest the Club had drafted numerous plans which would see up to six matches played in Perth.

The welfare of the players and coaching staff is paramount, and Fever support any decision that places player and staff wellbeing at its core. However, the Club

Jhaniele Fowler v Phumza Maweni

Courtney Bruce v Cara Koenen Courtney Bruce has bounced back from her back injury, earning her spot in the Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Round for the last two weeks. Her Round 7 performance against Magpies also saw her named Player of the Match.

Despite missing three games, Bruce sits fourth with overall intercepts for the season. Bruce will be looking to replicate her form from Round 7 against Cara Koenen, and cause havoc for Lightning’s attacks. Koenen is currently ranked third in total goals (248) shooting at 88% accuracy.

Jhaniele Fowler continues to wow fans, as the number one shooting option for Fever, Fowler continues to improve her accuracy, she is the leading goal scorer this season with 375 goals at 92% accuracy. She has faced numerous challenges this season including opponents double-tagging, to no avail.

Fowler continues to work the court demanding the ball from every angle.

Maweni will be challenged, despite Fowler playing 100% game time, she is showing no signs of slowing.

THE SITUATION

The competition has passed the halfway mark of the season and Fever celebrated with a 14-goal win over the Magpies in Round 7. Lightning fell to NSW Swifts by seven goals on Wednesday night. The Lightning hold the balance of power over Fever at the moment, but 2020 is a completely different season and Fever are starting to string together strong performances across the full four quarters.

Verity Charles v Laura Langman Both Charles and Langman have been playing great netball and both have been dominating the feeds and goal assists for their team. Charles currently has 113 goal assists for the season as she and Jhaniele continue work solidly together. Langman produced a solid four-quarter performance on Wednesday night despite going down to NSW Swifts.

Congratulations to Alice Teague-Neeld who is celebrating her 50th League game against the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Teague-Neeld has had a successful start to the 2020 season joining the starting line-up for every game this season as well as improving her shooting accuracy. Her partnership with goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler continues to strengthen as the season progresses. TeagueNeeld sits second on the Suncorp Super Netball League’s goal assists with 119 for the season.

Shooting Stars leaders inspired to run for school council Shooting Stars leaders in Narrogin will run for school council after being inspired on a Shooting Stars leadership camp last week.

Kayla Derich, Colleen Edwards, Cherokee Ford, Shontae Jetta and Caitlin Ugle were selected for a Leadership Camp as a reward for all their achievements this term.

The camp saw the girls make the journey up to Meekatharra to support the delivery of the 2020 Meeka Shooting Stars Cup netball tournament and then to Mullewa to host a range of netball skill sessions for the Shooting Stars participants.

After returning from the leadership camp, all five participants were eager to further develop their leadership skills and jumped at the opportunity to run for school council.

Shooting Stars Executive Officer Fran Haintz said the leadership camp initiatives are invaluable for their participants.

“It’s amazing to see our participant’s individual journey as they grow in confidence and realise they are capable of achieving anything they set their mind to...and then to watch them develop into role models for their younger peers,” said Haintz.

“Our leadership camps are instrumental to developing our participants’ leadership skills and it’s so exciting to see them grasp opportunities that they never before would have.”

“I am so proud of these girls and wish them all the best of luck in the upcoming school election.”
