A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO in being the first Lightning team to reach a Grand Final. Finally, congratulations to West Coast Warriors Opens for qualifying for yet another Grand Final, aiming for their fourth consecutive premiership.

Thank you to all the GIG WANL clubs, umpires, officials and volunteers for their commitment and hard work to ensure that the 2022 GIG WANL season could proceed this year, particularly after last year’s season was disrupted by COVID. This year we launched a new broadcast partner with KAYO which further elevated the GIG WANL competition. The 2022 GIG WANL season saw games not only played at the Gold Netball Centre but also Curtin University, Eaton, Lesmurdie, Mandurah, Willetton and Karratha as part of the State Government’s Country Sport Enrichment Scheme. The Karratha match and supporting activations were incredibly well received by the local community who appreciated the opportunity to experience a GIG WANL game live.

Welcome to the 2022 Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League Grand Final and congratulations to the teams, umpires and officials set to participate across the three divisions.

Firstly, a huge thank you to WANL Naming Rights Partner the Gold Industry Group for their ongoing support of the competition and netball in Western Australia. Their commitment to our sport is vital to its continued sustainability and success There are some special mentions, congratulations to Western Roar on qualifying in all three Grand Finals – the Opens, 20U and Mens. Congratulations to Curtin Hamersley Comets Mens for qualifying for their first Grand Final and to Peel Lightning 20U on making Club history

Overall, it has been a competitive season with some exciting talent on display across all three divisions.

I look forward to watching all teams battle it out at the GIG WANL Grand Final and wish everyone competing the best of luck.

MILESTONES Netball WA and the Gold Industry Group wish to recognise the many outstanding Gold Industry Group WA Netball League (GIG WANL) Officials who have achieved key milestones over the competition’s 34-year history. During this period Player and Umpire milestones have been recognised at either the respective Player’s or Umpire’s milestone game and acknowledged at the Jill McIntosh Medal.

Additionally, the GIG WANL Coach and Bench Officials milestones have not been officially recognised until now. Netball WA will retrospectively present these awards today at the GIG WANL Grand Final.

GRAND FINAL PREVIEW OPEN West Coast Warriors v Western Roar Netball Club Time: Sunday 7 August 2022, 3:00pm WST Location: Gold Netball Centre, Show Court Most Recent Meetings: Finals Round 1 2022: Warriors defeated Roar 59-52 Round 10 2022: Roar defeated Warriors 48-47 Round 4 2022: Warriors defeated Roar 56-35 Grand Finals 2021: Warriors defeated Roar 46-41 The Situation Having won the previous three GIG WANL Grand Finals, West Coast Warriors, will be eager to continue their streak again this year against rivals, Western Roar.

Roar were the on top of the ladder at the end oof the home and away season, however they fell short of a win in the first finals round against Warriors.

Proving their strength, Roar secured a win against Curtin Hammersley Comets in the preliminary finals to gain the opportunity face off with Warriors once again.

Roar were outmatched by Warriors in last season’s grand final where they lost by five goals. However, will no doubt be focussed on a win this time round.

The contest is sure to be fierce with both team lists featuring athletes who have been selected for the West Coast Fever 2022 Reserves team. These players include: Roar: Chelsea Bartlett (Defender) Zoe Cransberg (Midcourt) Emma Putt (Shooter) Warriors: Caitlyn Brown (Defender) Numi Tupaea (Midcourt) With two evenly matched teams and such fierce rivalry between them, this Grand Final is not one to be missed.
