WELCOME FROM THE PRESIDENT We are also excited to again welcome participants from our No Limits Division, a wonderful competition for athletes with an intellectual disability, along with everyone else from our netball family who is travelling from across the state.

Netball WA is committed to showcasing and advancing the game in regional communities and all the wonderful social and physical well-being benefits associated with being a participant.

On behalf of the Netball WA Board and Executive, I am delighted to welcome all participants, officials, volunteers and spectators to the 2021 Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships.

This event is always a highlight on the Netball WA calendar, bringing together more than 3000 players for three days of competition across 39 courts at the Gold Netball Centre and Perth Netball Association.

With teams travelling from as far as Kununurra and Esperance and many regional communities in between, I am looking forward to seeing the diversity of talent on display across all 36 divisions.

Not only is this event a terrific chance for the netball community to come together, but it is also an important opportunity for talent identification, umpire testing and coach mentoring.

This event is only made possible through the tireless efforts of the staff of Netball WA, the Town of Cambridge and Perth Netball Association. In addition, I take this opportunity to express my appreciation for everyone’s efforts.

Volunteers are absolutely critical to organising the Association Championships and netball competitions across the State.

This year, the 2021 Netball WA Service to Sport Award will be presented at the Opening Ceremony to recognise one of the many great volunteers who has contributed to netball for 30 years or more.

I look forward to seeing who this highly deserving recipient will be.

WESTERN’S AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST COMMUNITY NETBALL EVENT This will see more than 850 matches played on 39 courts at the Gold Netball Centre and Perth Netball Association in Jolimont on June 5, 6 and 7.

The event will commence with an opening ceremony at 8.15am on Saturday, June 5 and conclude with a closing ceremony at 3pm on Monday, June 7.

The 2021 Netball WA Service to Sport Award will be presented at the opening Ceremony to recognise one of the many great volunteers who has contributed to netball for 30 years or more.

The largest community netball event in Western Australia, the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships, will be held in Perth this long weekend with more than 3000 players travelling from across the State to participate.

Netball WA General Manager – Community Netball Liz Booth said the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships offered a wonderful opportunity for players and officials from across the State to come together on the netball court.

The Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships form part of the Netball WA competition pathway and are held annually to provide representative participation for Associations’ players, coaches, officials, managers and administrators.

Participants showcase their culture on national netball stage Shooting Stars showcased their culture on the national netball stage this week as West Coast Fever stepped out onto the court in game day shoes painted by the Narrogin Shooting Stars participants and staff for the Suncorp Super Netball Indigenous Round.

West Coast Fever Athlete Stacey FrancisBayman had her shoes painted by Sharicka Lynch, from Kalgoorlie.

“My inspiration for my design on the shoes came from a photo that I took of artwork that was made inside a rock,” said Sharicka.

“This artwork was done by my ancestors who were Kapurn people. The artwork is of handprints over the walls of the rock made with what looks like red ochre and with white curved markings underneath.”

“My people have worked so hard in protecting our country and keeping our culture alive. This is so the future generations to come can have the same privilege as myself, in being able to witness such beautiful untouched artwork.”

One of the league’s best defenders, Stacey Francis-Bayman, said she felt blessed to have the opportunity to learn more about one of the oldest cultures in the world and to have Sharicka share her story with her.

Shooting Stars was the Official Match Day Partner for West Coast Fever’s game on Monday night and the participants had the opportunity to chat to West Coast Fever’s top tier members and partners in the pre-game function and stand alongside Dr Richard Walley OAM for the Welcome to Country.

The 2021 AMG will take place from Saturday 9 - Saturday 16 October in Perth, with netball being played from Monday 11 - Saturday 16 October 2021 at the Gold Netball Centre in Jolimont.

To participate in the games you must meet the minimum age requirement of 30 years old, with both men and women able to participate in the Netball event, split into female and mixed categories.
