It gives me great pleasure to share that we have a new Chief Executive Officer – Alex Kleingeld.
The transition of leadership is a significant step for any organisation, often accompanied by both excitement and uncertainty. Employees, shareholders, and customers alike look to the new CEO to understand their strategic approach and how they plan to navigate the company through the current business climate.
This is a moment of change for Evotel as we welcome Kleingeld to the hot seat, bringing fresh perspectives, the potential for innovation, and an opportunity for renewed purpose.
As the baton is passed to Kleingeld, it is important to acknowledge his accomplishments and leadership qualities. Recognised as the best sales leader, his appointment brings with it an air of optimism.
Kleingeld describes himself as a skilled and experienced sales management professional with a solid background in telecommunications.
If you’ve worked closely with him, you’ll no doubt agree— considering the number of sales managers he has mentored. Many remain under his guidance, while others are making their mark elsewhere.
He possesses advanced business and technical acumen, along with excellent qualifications that ensure a strong understanding of effective processes and systems. His ability to resolve issues and implement appropriate improvements is second to none.
Among his many attributes are highly developed analytical expertise and problem-solving skills. His time-management and organisational abilities guarantee precise attention to detail, exemplary performance under pressure, and the capability to meet tight deadlines in fast-paced environments.
Armed with a Business Studies qualification, Kleingeld has built a career spanning decades. His achievements include the prestigious Excellence Award for Top Sales Manager in the country.
The success and legacy of past leaders provide a solid foundation upon which Kleingeld can build, learn, and lead with vision and courage. The role is never easy, but with the right guidance, it presents an opportunity to create a lasting impact on the company and its people.
Since joining this brand, Kleingeld has been one of the executives who welcomed me with open arms. He went beyond his hectic schedule to guide me in the right direction— something I still hold dearly to this day.
Listening to him was the best decision I could have made. Oh, what a great tactician and strategist!
You see, this industry is small, and everybody knows everyone. One must learn from others. Despite appearances of growth, the real players in the telecommunications circle remain the same.
For us at Evotel, this is a time for gratitude and optimism. His ascension to the top represents not only the future of the company but also the culmination of years of hard work, collaboration, and perseverance from everyone involved— especially his fellow C-suite executives.
Let’s raise a toast to the exciting future that lies ahead. With fresh leadership at the top, there is always a renewed sense of purpose and possibility. Together, we look forward to the journey ahead, confident that Kleingeld will inspire, challenge, and lead with integrity and vision.

Hats off to our new CEO!
INTERVIEW WITH ALEX KLEINGELD: EVOTEL’S NEW CEO!
Mr Kleingeld, could you share some insights into your early life and educational background?
Certainly. I was born and raised in Joburg, where I developed a keen interest in connectivity from a young age. I pursued this passion and challenged myself to grow further in the telecoms field.
After graduating, I began my career as a reseller, where I sold office automation equipment and ADSL lines. This role provided me with invaluable hands-on experience and a deep understanding of connectivity.
Could you highlight a pivotal moment or project that significantly impacted your professional journey?
One notable project was being in the trenches and selling FTTH in Parktown.
What motivated you to take on leadership roles, eventually leading to your current position as CEO?
Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact.
This motivation, combined with the support of mentors like Albert Oosthuysen and a commitment to continuous learning, naturally led me into leadership positions.
As CEO, what core values and principles guide your leadership approach?
I believe in fostering a culture of transparency, innovation, and employee
By prioritising open communication and encouraging creative problem-solving, we can navigate challenges effectively and drive sustainable growth — not just for Evotel but also for our communities.
Reflecting on your journey, what advice would you offer to aspiring professionals aiming for leadership roles?
Embrace challenges as learning opportunities, seek mentorship, and remain
Building strong relationships and maintaining a clear vision are essential components of effective leadership.
Many successful leaders have humble beginnings. Could you share your experience working on the streets as a sales agent and how it shaped your leadership style?
Absolutely. Starting as a sales agent on the streets was one of the most valuable experiences of my career. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of understanding customers at a ground level.
Those early days helped me develop problem-solving skills and a deep appreciation for frontline workers, which influences how I lead today.
Climbing the corporate ladder is often a challenging journey. What were the key moments or strategies that helped you move up from an entry-level role to leadership?
The key to progression is consistency, a strong work ethic, and the ability to learn from every role. I made sure to take on responsibilities beyond my job description, seek mentorship, and continuously improve my skills.
I also built relationships across different levels of the company, which allowed me to understand various aspects of the business and position myself for leadership opportunities.
You’ve seen firsthand how people can grow within a company. What qualities do you look for in employees who have the potential to move into leadership roles?
I look for individuals who are proactive, adaptable, and willing to take initiative.
Leadership is not just about titles — it’s about attitude, responsibility, and the ability to inspire others.
People who seek solutions instead of problems and consistently add value to their teams are the ones who stand out as future leaders.
Mentorship plays a crucial role in professional growth. How do you personally mentor employees and encourage leadership development?
I believe in leading by example and making myself accessible to employees at all levels. I regularly engage in one-on-one mentorship, provide constructive feedback, and create opportunities for employees to take on new challenges.
Leadership is a skill that must be nurtured, so I encourage continuous learning, training programmes, and cross-functional collaboration.
What advice do you have for young professionals who may be starting as sales agents or in other entry-level roles but aspire to become leaders one day?
Start by mastering the fundamentals of your role. Be curious, take initiative, and never stop learning. Build strong relationships, seek out mentors, and always be willing to step out of your comfort zone.
Leadership isn’t just about a title — it’s about how you approach challenges, support your team, and drive results. If you stay consistent and committed, opportunities will come your way.

Nixuh is a Warzone Ranked Play gaming team that competes in Call of Duty: Warzone’s competitive mode, where players challenge each other in skill-based matches to climb through different ranks.
To simplify, Warzone Ranked Play follows a structured ranking system that focuses on competitive integrity, rewarding skilled gameplay, and ensuring fair matchmaking.
In January this year, Evotel—South Africa’s trusted Fibre Network Operator (FNO), which supports gaming in its entirety—hosted EVO-CON, a competitive gaming tournament. The event attracted hordes of entries, with over 300 teams registered to play, all for free.
A shoutout to Home-Connect for partnering with Evotel and to Buffel Gaming & ParanoidPixi3 for hosting like legends.
Mauritizo Torri from Team Nixuh emerged victorious, topping the rankings and walking away with the lion’s share of R18,500 in prizes. The inaugural champion is now waxing lyrical about his achievement.
Taking second place with silver medals were the popular Pro Gamblers, while Syndicate secured third place after a big push for a podium finish.
EVO-CON 2025 marked Evotel’s first competitive gaming tournament—a Call of Duty: Warzone knockout tournament open to all, free of charge.
Adding some fun to the event, the EVO-CON Best Team Names contest crowned Gemaskerde Sopbene as the Best Afrikaans Name and Bleh as the Best English Name.
“I JUST PLAY THE GAME” – TORRI ON HIS WINNING FORMULA
Speaking to Evotel Magazine after his victory, Torri—who hails from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal— humbly reflected on his upbringing.
“It was just normal,” said the champion. Torri admitted that he hadn’t competed in local tournaments for a while, so playing with familiar faces and former rivals felt “refreshing.”
“I really do enjoy these local tournaments,” he shared.
When asked about his preparation routine, Torri revealed that consistency is key:
“I just play Warzone Ranked Play with my friends. We give each other a lot of constructive criticism to improve each other’s gameplay.
“I don’t have any crazy warm-up routines or practice strategies—I just play.
The main thing people don’t understand is that it’s not about having specific ways of practising; you literally just have to play the game every day. It’s the only way you’ll get better.”
LOOKING AHEAD: GLOBAL AMBITIONS AND LOCAL CHALLENGES
While some might question whether gaming can be a viable career, Torri is determined to grow his craft—a pursuit that has already taken him around the world through his controller and console.
“Nixuh gave us the chance to go to Dubai and compete in the World Series of Warzone 2023,” he said. However, they didn’t place as expected, finishing sixth overall in the Middle East and Africa region. Only the first-place team advanced to the global finals.
Torri cites OpTic Scumpii as his inspiration, recalling how watching the star player sparked his own competitive journey.
“I’ve spent the last five to six years building a reputation and trying to become the next big thing in South African Warzone,” said the EVO-CON champion.
“It has always been my dream to become a proper professional gamer. But there are many disadvantages when trying to make it a career in South Africa. We don’t have the constant tournaments like those in America or Europe, making it difficult to earn a steady income.
“And when you do get a spot in overseas tournaments, you play on 180+ ping. Competing against the best players in the world under those conditions makes the game 100 times harder.”
E-SPORTS IN THE OLYMPICS? TORRI THINKS SO
Torri believes E-sports should 100% be included in the Olympic Games.
“It’s always a good vibe and solid competition. I think it’s time for gaming to enter a completely new environment and see how it thrives.
“It would also be huge for E-sports to be taken seriously as a legitimate career path.
More importantly, it would shine a light on countries like ours that don’t have as big a player base as America, giving gamers worldwide a chance to make a name for themselves.”
WORDS OF WISDOM FOR ASPIRING GAMERS
Torri encourages aspiring gamers to pursue their passion without hesitation—but with a word of caution.
“You have to have passion for it—a lot of it,” he warned.
“There are so many ups and downs, and the only way to get through the lows is wanting it more than anybody else.”
To his supporters, Torri expressed heartfelt gratitude:
“I just want to thank you for continuing to support me and my teammates. You can do anything you put your mind to—the only person holding you back is you.”

NORTHERN CAPE’S DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION DISCONNECTION!
The Northern Cape, the largest province in South Africa by land area, faces a unique set of challenges in its efforts to transition to a more digitally connected society.
Despite the province’s rich resources and potential for economic growth, it has been struggling to bridge the digital divide that hinders its development.
While digital transformation can bring about significant economic benefits, improved public service delivery, and better access to education and healthcare, the Northern Cape is grappling with several barriers that make this shift difficult.
GEOGRAPHIC
AND INFRASTRUCTURE
CHALLENGES
One of the most significant challenges facing Northern Cape in its digital journey is its vast and sparsely populated geography.
The province is home to large rural areas, and many towns are isolated from major urban centres, making it difficult to extend and maintain reliable internet infrastructure.
Limited broadband access remains a persistent issue, with internet services in rural areas being either slow or entirely unavailable.
With Evotel operation in that part of the country, the divide seem to be piecing together with infrastructure connected in some parts of the areas, comprising Upington, Khatu, and Postmasburg who are waxing lyrical about the connection and how it has changed lives.
The lack of adequate infrastructure means that many residents in densely populated areas struggle to access the digital tools necessary for modern work, education, and communication.
This creates a stark contrast between the more digitally advanced urban regions of South Africa and the rural areas that make up much of Northern Cape.
This issue is not only an inconvenience but a major barrier to unlocking economic potential for both businesses and individuals.
AFFORDABILITYN OR DIGITAL SERVICES
Another major hurdle is the cost of digital services.
While the internet is essential for everything from accessing government services to participating in the global economy, many Northern Cape residents face affordability challenges.
High data costs, especially in remote areas, put digital access out of reach for a significant portion of the population.
For example, mobile data, which is one of the primary means of accessing the internet, remains prohibitively expensive for many people in the province.
This leaves both students and workers disadvantaged, particularly in a time when online learning and remote working are becoming more prevalent globally.
SKILLS GAP AND DIGITAL LITERACY
Northern Cape’s transition to a fully digital environment is also slowed by a lack of digital literacy and skills.
While there is a growing emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education across South Africa, rural areas in the Northern Cape are often left behind.
Many schools lack the infrastructure to teach students digital skills, and there are few opportunities for adults to upskill and gain digital competencies.
This skills gap is particularly concerning when it comes to developing the workforce needed to support emerging industries, such as information technology,e-commerce, and digital marketing.
The province is at risk of being left behind as the global economy moves toward greater digital integration, which could further exacerbate unemployment rates and economic inequality.
GOVERNMENT EFFORTS AND INITIATIVES
The South African government has recognised the need for digital inclusion and has launched several initiatives to promote digital transformation across the country.
These initiatives include expanding broadband networks, rolling out digital learning tools, and creating digital skills programs. However, many of these initiatives have been slow to reach the Northern Cape, and local government agencies are often illequipped to implement them effectively.
The provincial government has attempted to partner with private companies to improve digital infrastructure, but such partnerships have not always yielded the desired results, except for Evotel who has been reliable to the province.
Additionally, local government offices in smaller towns often lack the necessary resources and training to handle digital services, leaving citizens unable to fully access the benefits of these programs.
ROLE OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR
The private sector plays a crucial role in bridging the digital divide, and some companies have made strides in improving connectivity in the Northern Cape.
Internet service providers (ISPs) and telecommunications companies have begun expanding their services to underserved areas through Evotel’s infrastructure that has been the biggest provider.
Some businesses in the province are also beginning to adopt digital tools, recognising the potential for growth through e-commerce and digital marketing.
However, without a broader push to improve infrastructure and provide affordable services, these initiatives risk remaining limited to a few tech-savvy entrepreneurs and businesses rather than benefiting the population as a whole.
OPPORTUNITIES AND SOLUTIONS
Finally, affordability must be addressed to ensure that digital tools are accessible to all, not just those with higher incomes.
Government intervention, such as subsidies or price regulation, could make a meaningful impact on lowering data costs, allowing more residents to participate in the digital economy.
Despite the many challenges, there seem to be several opportunities for the Northern Cape to advance its digital transformation through Evotel, which is more than just fibre.
A key step in overcoming the region’s digital struggle is the investment in highspeed internet infrastructure that connect rural areas to the rest of the country and the world. Public-private partnerships and collaborations between local authorities and private telecom companies are critical to making this happen.
Moreover, there needs to be a focused effort to improve digital literacy across the province.
Education and training programs should be introduced at all levels, from primary schools to adult learning centers, so that residents can take full advantage of the opportunities the digital world offers.
The Northern Cape’s journey toward digital transformation is undoubtedly a challenging one. The province’s vast geography, infrastructure issues, affordability concerns, and skills gap create significant barriers.
However, the province also has the potential to overcome these obstacles and become a leader in digital innovation if it can focus on expanding infrastructure, enhancing digital literacy, and ensuring that digital services are affordable and accessible for all.
With coordinated effort from the government, private sector, and local communities, the Northern Cape can close

EVOTEL’S BEAUTY EYEING PRESTIGIOUS MRS SOUTH AFRICA CROWN!
As the saying goes: “The universe favours the underdogs!”
This sentiment resonates with Bonolo Moloi, an Evotel employee who has secured a spot among the iME Mrs South Africa 2025 semi-finalists—a prestigious competition that has already progressed through three stages.
Mrs Moloi and her fellow semi-finalists are vying to follow in the footsteps of the reigning Mrs World 2024, Tshego Gaelae, who claimed a historic victory in Las Vegas earlier this year, bringing home the coveted tiara (winners’ crown).
Not everyone advances to the semi-final stage, considering the number of courageous contestants who enter this tough-as-teak competition. The finalists will be announced during Semi-finals Judging Week, set for 2–4 July.
Moloi has taken to the contest like a duck to water, and Evotel fully supports her aspirations, hoping she will become the next Mrs World and secure a historic back-to-back win for South Africa.
Anything is possible!
Her dedication and passion inspire her fellow employees—and potentially married women across South Africa. The Fibre Network Operator (FNO) is honoured to sponsor her journey for the remainder of the competition.
“Watching women step out of their comfort zones and into the spotlight gives us valuable insight into their potential and their courage to grow, which is why we believe live public castings are so important,” said Johnson.
“However, being cognisant of the financial realities facing families, we specifically extended the live castings to other provinces this year to bring the selection process directly to women in different communities.”
She warmly congratulated the 2025 semi-finalists on their achievement and said she looked forward to witnessing their growth and successes in the coming months.
“Every woman here said ‘yes’ to herself and to making this her time to shine. Seeing the fire inside each of them was so inspiring. These are definitely women to watch as the next generation of changemakers.”
All semi-finalists will converge at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, on Saturday and Sunday, 12–13 April, for a Breakfast Meeting and Semifinalists Workshop.
On Friday, 30 May, Moloi and her fellow semifinalists will mingle with the masses during the Annual Golf Day event at Glendower Golf Course in Edenvale, ahead of the Semi-finals Judging Week from 2–4 July.
Moloi’s journey to this prestigious moment began after the National Casting held at Pretoria’s Menlyn Park Shopping Centre on Friday, 31 January, followed by two additional public castings in Cape Town on Saturday, 8 February, and in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, 9 February.
According to the pageant organisers, the selected semi-finalists’ journeys commenced immediately with an intensive programme of personal development workshops, setting the tone for the year ahead as part of the acclaimed women empowerment initiative.
“These included sessions on personal branding, goal-setting, and leadership, as well as a professional photoshoot,” the organisers stated.
Chief Executive Joani Johnson said their updated approach reflects their ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusivity, celebrating real, bona fide South African women from every corner of the country.
You can show Mrs Moloi some love by sending her a message through our social media platforms.
EVERGREEN BIANCA SETS THE TONE FOR 2025!
Employee of the month for January!
It is every employee’s dream and aspiration to start the year on a high note, and this was certainly the case for Bianca Groening, who kicked off 2025 by lifting the esteemed Evotel Employee of the Month award for January.
A true trendsetter, Bianca’s confidence and professionalism were evident in the way she responded to questions during her interview with this monthly publication.
Here’s how Bianca feels after being voted by her colleagues for this prestigious honour:
WHO IS BIANCA, AND WHERE WAS SHE BORN?
I’m a confident and passionate person who gives my best to everything I do. I like to keep things straightforward and always put in the effort—no shortcuts. I love working in customer service because I’m all about helping people and ensuring they have a great experience. I was born and raised in Johannesburg.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS.
I’ve worked in a few different areas, which has helped me build a variety of skills.
Customer service has always been my main focus. I hold a Diploma in HR Management, along with a few certificates in Fashion, which have further contributed to my career growth.
WHEN DID YOU START WORKING FOR EVOTEL, AND IN WHICH POSITION?
I joined Evotel in December 2021, starting in the Activations Department. From there, I became a Team Leader and later transitioned to the ISP Department.
WHY DO YOU THINK YOUR COLLEAGUES VOTED FOR YOU AS EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH?
I think it’s because I’m always ready to help and share what I know. People feel comfortable approaching me for guidance, and I love being able to pass on my knowledge and help others grow. I believe in empowering those around me.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS ACCOLADE, AS IT SETS YOU APART AND SETS THE TONE FOR THE NEW YEAR?
Honestly, I was surprised when I was named Employee of the Month. I thought it would go to someone who’s always in the spotlight. But I’m proud to have been recognised, and I believe it reflects how hard I work to contribute to the company’s goals and support my teammates.
WHAT ARE YOUR AMBITIONS FOR THE FUTURE AT EVOTEL, AND WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I see myself continuing to grow here at Evotel. The company has given me the chance to show what I can do, and I’m excited to keep learning and contributing to the team in bigger ways.
WHAT DRIVES YOU TO EXCEL IN YOUR WORK AND LED TO YOUR RECOGNITION IN JANUARY?
I’m driven by targets and the desire to improve every day.
My competitive side keeps me pushing to do my best, and I appreciate that Evotel has supported me in growing my skills and achieving my goals.
WHICH DIVISION ARE YOU WORKING IN NOW, AND WAS THIS PART OF YOUR PLAN?
Right now, I’m leading the Order Fulfilment Team. I didn’t specifically plan for this position, but I believe it’s all part of a journey guided by hard work and, of course, a bit of luck along the way.
HOW HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE BEEN WORKING FOR EVOTEL SO FAR?
It’s been a great experience overall. There have been some challenges, but I genuinely enjoy working at Evotel. I give my best every day, and I appreciate the opportunities I’ve had to grow here.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY TO THOSE WHO VOTED FOR YOU, YOUR MANAGER, AND YOUR COLLEAGUES?
I just want to say thank you to everyone who voted for me! It means a lot.
I’ll continue doing my best to help and support anyone who needs it.
This recognition has made me feel truly appreciated, and it motivates me to be an even better colleague and employee going forward.
