YOUR BIGGEST MISTAKE NOT PRIORITISING FIBRE INTERNET AT HOME!

by weather or by mere smoke around the corner. Internet access is about much more than entertainment. A reliable connection gives families access to information, education, online services, work opportunities and digital skills. That is why I believe one of the best decisions you can make before the end of this year is to prioritise getting fibre installed at your home if it is available in your area, and first priority should be Net99.

Dr Nicholas Thipe

As Heritage Month draws to a close, I have been thinking about the things that make life easier, more enjoyable and more connected. And one thing has become increasingly obvious to me - one of the biggest mistakes you can make today is not prioritising reliable fibre internet access at home, o emetse eng? For many South Africans who already have Net Nine Nine fibre (or any of the networks within the CYNK Group) in their homes, there is every reason to smile from ear to ear. They have discovered that fast, reliable internet is no longer a luxury reserved for businesses, offices or people working in the technology sector, but ke Bophelo ba rona (it has become an important part of everyday life). Think about it: How many times have you arrived home after a long week and simply wanted to switch off, sit on the couch and enjoy a movie with your family? Perhaps you want to catch up on a series, watch sport, listen to music, browse social media or allow the children to access educational content. All of this becomes easier when your home has makoya (dependable) fibre connectivity, and not unreliable wi-fi that can be affected Page 2

NNN

With its focus on expanding connectivity and bringing fibre closer to communities, Net99 ke karolo ya diphetogo (part of a broader transformation) in how South Africans access the digital world. As we celebrate our heritage, we should also think about the future we are building. Our heritage reminds us where we come from, but connectivity can help determine where we are going. So, if you have been postponing that fibre installation, perhaps it is time to stop waiting. Before the year ends, make the connection the biggest upgrade you can give your home is not a new television or a new couch but it is fast, reliable internet. Re itumeletse ngwao boswa ya rona!

Dr Nicholas Thipe

CONNECTING PRACTICAL SKILLS TO OPPORTUNITY! If Nicholas Thipe’s reception at the Letaba TVET College CareerXperience Roadshow at the Tzaneen Campus is anything to go by, there is a strong appetite among young people to be part of that future, and many agree that fibre internet is the future. Driven by the powerful words of struggle icon Steve Biko, “The greatest gift we can give ourselves is to develop our full potential,” the Letaba TVET College CareerXperience Roadshow in Limpopo provided young people with more than career information; it offered a window into the opportunities that await them in an increasingly connected economy. The roadshow brought together school learners, TVET and university students, unemployed youth, employers, industry partners, recruiters and business leaders, creating a dynamic environment where education, skills development and the world of work converged. Among the companies making their presence felt was Net Nine Nine, the fibre network company currently expanding its infrastructure footprint across Nkowankowa, Tzaneen, Modjadjiskloof and surrounding communities. Net Nine Nine’s participation was particularly significant given the company’s growing involvement in the local economy, as is the case across eight provinces. Beyond building fibre infrastructure, the company is creating opportunities for local employment and opening doors for small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to participate in the rapidly expanding digital infrastructure sector. Thipe, Net Nine Nine Chief of Staff, delivered a motivational address that quickly became one of the highlights of the roadshow. Speaking to an audience that included young school learners, tertiary students and businesspeople, Thipe delivered a message that went beyond employment opportunities, which was followed by a huge round of applause from the engaged audience. He challenged young people to look at their skills, ambitions and potential through the lens of an economy that is becoming increasingly dependent on technology and connectivity.

His presentation resonated strongly with the audience, particularly as he shared the progress Net Nine Nine is making in creating employment opportunities in communities where the company is rolling out its network. Thipe’s message was underpinned by a simple but important reality: the future of work is becoming increasingly connected. TVET colleges play a critical role in preparing artisans, technicians and other skilled professionals for the physical demands of the economy, but increasingly, the tools, businesses, customers and workplaces surrounding those professions are connected to the internet. From engineering and electrical work to automotive services, construction, agriculture, manufacturing and

DIGITAL ECONOMY BROUGHT CLOSER TO TZANEEN YOUTH! entrepreneurship, connectivity is becoming an important part of how businesses operate, communicate, market themselves and access information. The CareerXperience Roadshow is designed to expose more than 1 800 learners, TVET and tertiary students and unemployed young people across three campuses to career pathways, scarce skills, entrepreneurship, technology and employment opportunities aligned with the Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) mandate and Limpopo’s economic priorities. Unlike a conventional career exhibition, the initiative provides practical and interactive exposure to the world of work by connecting young people with employers, industry professionals, artisans, training providers and opportunity partners. For Net Nine Nine, this represents an important space to engage with the very communities that will form part of South Africa’s future workforce and entrepreneurial landscape. Net Nine Nine has not limited its contribution to direct employment, but is also creating opportunities for local SMMEs to participate in the fibre ecosystem, allowing smaller businesses to gain access to work and commercial opportunities created by the expansion of digital infrastructure.

individuals and businesses can access information, markets, training and new opportunities. Letaba TVET College Council Chairperson Ms Sehlake delivered a heartfelt message of support for the initiative, emphasising the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for young people as they navigate education, career choices and their pathways into the world of work. Samson Vilakazi, CEO of Vilama Business HR, Tax and Accounting, provided practical guidance during his session, “Getting Ready for the World of Work: Skills Every Employer Wants.” The session focused on the skills, mindset and professional qualities young people need to successfully enter and navigate the workplace. Phamela Khosa, General Education and Development Practitioner at TETA, delivered the Partners Address, highlighting the importance of collaboration in connecting young people with education, skills development and meaningful opportunities. The programme was officially welcomed by Mr MD Mathevula, Campus Manager at Letaba TVET College, whose address set the tone for a day centred on knowledge, opportunity and empowerment.

Just a week before the Letaba TVET event, Net Nine Nine held a recruitment drive at the Muhlava Royal Palace, where young people from communities under the Nkuna Traditional Office were given an opportunity to engage with the company and explore employment possibilities. Such engagements demonstrate the potential impact of bringing companies, communities and young people into the same conversation. For a region such as Tzaneen, where agriculture, tourism, small businesses, education and technical skills are important components of the local economy, improved connectivity can provide a platform through which

SPEED MATTERS, BETTER CONNECTIVITY PRIORITISED! Speed matters, doesn’t it? Jamaica’s Usain Bolt remains the fastest 100 m runner in history. Lewis Hamilton set the all-time fastest-ever F1 Grand Prix lap with a Mercedes-Benz. Light is the fastest physical thing in the universe, according to scientists. Now, why wouldn’t you want your fibre internet to be the fastest in your area? Net Nine Nine has adopted a strategy to elevate all its clients with faster fibre lines, with those on the popular 10/20 Mbps packages able to benefit from higher line speeds. The leading network provider has moved swiftly to connect South Africans to a faster digital future, moving beyond simply connecting people to home and business fibre internet and giving them the speed to make the most of it. In today’s increasingly connected world, having internet access is no longer enough; the speed of that internet connection can make a major difference in how people learn, work, run businesses, communicate and access opportunities.

The speed upgrade is more than simply giving customers a bigger number on their internet package; it is about giving families, students, professionals and businesses the ability to do more with the internet. But what does internet speed mean, generally measured in megabits per second (Mbps)? It determines how quickly data can travel between the internet and your devices. Think of your internet connection as a highway.

For households, students, entrepreneurs and businesses across Southern Africa, internet speed has become an important part of everyday life.

A slow internet connection is like a narrow road where only a few cars can travel at a time. When many people use the road, traffic builds up.

A slow connection can mean waiting for files to download, struggling during online classes, experiencing interruptions during video meetings or losing valuable time when running an online business.

A faster connection is like a wider highway with more capacity to carry many cars.

This is why Net Nine Nine, regarded as one of Southern Africa’s leading fibre internet providers, continues to place speed and reliable connectivity at the centre of its service. And now, the company is preparing to take that commitment even further by rewarding customers for their loyalty.

Page 6

At a higher speed, more information can move at the same time, allowing several people to use the internet without the experience becoming frustrating. Have you been to a stadium with more than 90 000 people in attendance, such as during a Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates? The connection can become slow or even unusable because so many people are on the network,

DOESN’T IT? potentially affecting your device’s performance. For example, imagine a household where one child is attending an online class, another is researching a school project, a parent is working from home on a video conference and another family member is streaming entertainment, while another is gaming. With limited bandwidth, all these activities compete for the same capacity. With faster fibre, the household can handle these activities much more comfortably. For students, speed can mean more time for learning, as education has changed dramatically, with students no longer dependent exclusively on textbooks and classrooms. They watch educational videos, attend virtual lessons, download study material, conduct research, submit assignments and communicate with teachers and classmates online. A slow connection can turn a simple assignment into a frustrating exercise.

For university and college students, the importance becomes even greater as more courses use online platforms, video lectures, digital libraries and cloudbased resources. Good connectivity helps remove one more barrier between students and information. For businesses, internet speed is not simply about convenience, but productivity. Modern businesses rely on cloud-based systems, online banking, digital marketing, video conferencing, email, file sharing, online sales and communication with customers. Consider a small business owner who needs to upload product photographs to an online store, send a large proposal to a client and attend a video meeting. A slow connection can cause delays throughout the day. Faster internet allows businesses to move information more efficiently and respond to customers faster. For entrepreneurs operating from home, reliable fibre can effectively become part of their business infrastructure. With fuel prices in South Africa escalating at an alarming rate, forcing corporates to allow staff to work in hybrid arrangements, working from home requires more than just being connected. Employees may need to participate in video meetings while accessing company systems, downloading documents and communicating with colleagues, all at the same time. Net Nine Nine’s faster fibre provides greater capacity for these demanding activities, particularly when several devices are connected at the same time. For more than six years, customers have trusted Net Nine Nine to keep them connected.

A student may need to download a large presentation, access an online learning platform and watch a tutorial video. A faster internet connection means less time waiting and more time actually learning.

The company now wants to celebrate that relationship by giving customers something that directly improves their everyday digital experience – more speed. The special rate will be communicated via social media platforms and direct communication.

FUN RUN TURNS WE ‘RUN FOR A PURPOSE’ WITH MISS MPUMALANGA! communities where household finances are already under pressure. The initiative was aimed not only at providing immediate relief, but also at highlighting the broader impact of period poverty on education, confidence, dignity and the overall well-being of young women. The second part of the campaign saw participants taking part in a 4.9 km charity run, with an entrance fee of R50. Rather than simply being a sporting event, the run was designed to turn every entry into a contribution towards the fight against period poverty, with funds raised through participation going towards the purchase of sanitary towels for young girls.

Fibre Network Operator (FNO) Net Nine Nine and reigning Miss Mpumalanga 2026, Masibulele Mndebele, joined forces for a purpose last week, working together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young girls in Bethal on 28 and 29 August 2026. Mndebele invited the Net Nine Nine CSI team to support her inaugural “Run For A Purpose” charity initiative in the farming town of Mpumalanga. The campaign is focused on tackling period poverty by ensuring that young girls have access to essential menstrual hygiene products. The initiative provided beneficiaries with a year’s supply of sanitary towels – 12 boxes per recipient – helping to remove one of the barriers that can affect girls’ ability to attend school with confidence and dignity. The social relief campaign got off to a strong start with the donation of 300 Ntombazane sanitary pads to Grade 6 and 7 learners at Sakhisizwe Primary School. The donation ensured that the young learners had access to an essential product that many girls and families struggle to afford, particularly in

The event brought together community members and supporters behind a common cause – helping ensure that menstruation does not become a reason for a girl to miss school. Net Nine Nine further strengthened the fundraising drive by donating an additional 100 boxes of Ntombazane sanitary pads in support of the initiative. The contribution formed part of the company’s broader commitment to supporting communities and helping create opportunities for young South Africans. For Mndebele, the partnership was particularly meaningful as she continues to use her platform as Miss Mpumalanga 2026 to advocate for the wellbeing and education of the girl child. She expressed her gratitude to Net Nine Nine for believing in her vision and supporting her initiative to help keep girls in school. “Your support towards the ‘Run for a Purpose’ movement against period poverty has allowed us to turn a vision into a meaningful reality,” she said. Mndebele said the initiative was close to her heart because of the direct impact period poverty can have on a young girl’s education and confidence.

FITNESS INTO A FORCE! “As Miss Mpumalanga 2026, it is deeply fulfilling to use my platform to address an issue that directly affects the education, confidence, dignity and wellbeing of the girl child,” she said. “I believe that no girl should have to miss school or feel stressed because she does not have access to sanitary pads.” She added that the support received through the campaign would help girls face the coming months with greater confidence, knowing they have access to menstrual hygiene products. “Because of your support, I believe that the girls we reached will be able to face the upcoming months with less stress and greater confidence, knowing that they have access to menstrual hygiene products. “Your partnership has helped us take another step towards a future where period poverty does not stand between a girl and her education.” Net Nine Nine Head of Marketing, Richard Genlloud, welcomed Mndebele’s words of appreciation and said the company was proud to support an initiative that seeks to create better opportunities for young South Africans. He said Net Nine Nine remains committed to helping ensure that South Africans have access to opportunities, while supporting initiatives that enable schoolgirls to pursue quality education without unnecessary barriers. “We hope that our small contribution towards your event made a big impact on the lives of the young ladies,” said Genlloud. “We wish you the best of luck with this project and all the others you are involved with. It’s people like you that make South Africa the country that we know and love. “Never stop trying to make the world a better place. Your impact is greater than you know. You inspire us to try harder, do better and make a bigger difference.”

HAMMANSKRAAL GIRLS SHOOT FOR THE STARS! What began as an easy Saturday morning in the flat bushveld of Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, ended on a blistering note as Kgaphamadi Secondary School’s Under-19 netball team were crowned champions of the annual Reach for Your Dreams Championships. Hosted by Mintirho Netball Academy at Temba Stadium, the tournament transformed the venue into a hive of activity as young netball players from across three regions battled it out for medals, trophies and recognition. It was a particularly memorable day for the Moretele region, which dominated the afternoon’s school netball championships, producing a clean sweep of results across the various age groups. The tournament brought together 37 teams from 32 schools, creating a vibrant platform for competition, friendship, talent identification and opportunities for the girl child. The competition featured 10 Under-12 teams, 10 Under-13 teams, nine Under-16 teams and eight Under-19 teams. Participating schools came from Moretele, Tshwane and, for the first time, the Dr JS Moroka region. Moretele’s dominance was no fluke, as the region’s schools displayed impressive skill, discipline and determination throughout the tournament, setting the benchmark for the other participating regions. Their success, however, also raises the bar for future editions, with other regions now having to raise their game if they are to challenge Moretele’s growing dominance on the netball court. Loalane A Secondary School won the Under-16 category, while TK Mokonyane Primary School claimed the Under-13 title and Mphebatho Primary School walked away with the Under-12 championship. The winners were rewarded with gold medals, trophies and other prizes, bringing a fitting conclusion to a day that celebrated both sporting excellence and youth development. As one of the tournament sponsors, fibre network company Net Nine Nine once again demonstrated

its commitment to grassroots sport by providing playing kits for the participating teams. The company has supported the tournament over the years, helping ensure that young players have an opportunity to compete in proper sporting attire while representing their schools with pride. Mintirho Netball Academy founder and tournament organiser Diana Hlongwane expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Net Nine Nine and the other partners who contributed towards the success of the championship. Through its continued support of school netball, Net Nine Nine has now helped kit 11 schools across 2025 and 2026, reinforcing its commitment to using sport as a vehicle for youth development and community empowerment. For many young players, the tournament was about much more than winning medals. Reflecting on the championship, a fulfilled Hlongwane said she was grateful to the Lord for entrusting her with the vision and responsibility of creating opportunities for young netball players.

Page 12

“This is a big opportunity for talent development and identification, and we want to see this tournament continue to grow as a pathway for netball development in our communities,” she said.

Hlongwane extended her heartfelt appreciation to all participating schools, coaches, teachers, officials, volunteers, sponsors, community leaders and partners whose contributions helped make the championship possible.

Hlongwane, who was walking with the assistance of a stick for balance, remained actively involved throughout the event, demonstrating her personal commitment to the academy and the young athletes it serves. For many of the girls, the championship represented their first experience of a tournament of this magnitude. It gave them an opportunity to make new friendships, interact with high-performance players and coaches, engage with senior sports administrators and compete for individual player awards. These experiences are important in building confidence and exposing young athletes to possibilities that extend beyond their immediate communities. One of the highlights of this year’s tournament was the participation of five schools from Dr JS Moroka, including both primary and secondary schools. For players travelling from rural communities, the opportunity to participate in a major championship in Hammanskraal provided important exposure to competitive netball outside their usual sporting environment. Their enthusiasm on court demonstrated the depth of talent that exists in rural communities and the importance of creating platforms where young athletes can be seen, developed and given opportunities to grow. A representative from Dr JS Moroka expressed the region’s intention to return to future editions of the championship, signalling exciting possibilities for the continued expansion of the Mintirho Netball Academy platform. The Reach for Your Dreams Championships is steadily becoming more than just a competition. It is emerging as a platform for talent identification, development, networking and mentorship, while giving young girls an opportunity to experience the broader sporting ecosystem.
