Taurus in Profile
May is the month of Taurus, the Bull, from approximately April 20th to May 20th. Taurus rules the Spring mid-season when flowers are in full array. In the Northern Hemisphere, the golden hues of the first Spring buds have broadened into a pallet of fuchsia, purple, pink, white, blue and more! My dogwood trees billow brightly in white and soft-pink breezes. The neighbor’s azaleas are rainbow-colored. It is a flower-ific celebration of Spring during the time of Taurus.
When the Sun is in the mansion of Taurus, we intimately explore our sensory world. Our physical senses are on high alert as the weather changes, the flowers bloom, the animals are called from their wintery hidey-hole, and the natural world springs into action. Sometimes, this sensory experience overloads our system, and we can develop spring allergies. Still, Birders, like me, welcome back the colorful Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, the greatly anticipated Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and other Spring visitors.
We also experience the transience of life during the Sun’s reign in Taurus. The dogwoods even actually pale. Lilacs sweeten the breeze for a few weeks and then allow other flowers their fragrant songs. Some Spring birds, like the Ruby-throated Hummingbird and the Prothonotary Warbler, stay the summer to nest before they move on, but some, like the Rose-breasted Grosbeak, stay only long enough to fill up before moving North and into Canada toward their Spring breeding grounds.
Our sensory world is the focus of the earth energy of Taurus. Our personal sense of Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, and Touch are keenly activated during this time. And, we’re encouraged to enjoy the world around us by Taurus’ ruling planet, Venus, Goddess of Sensual Pleasure. On a deeper level, our personal values are also open for examination. This includes our sense of SelfValue and Self-E. While the natural world is in a full, fragrant array, we are encouraged to appreciate our own, unique "fragrance".
Each of us has Taurus energy within our personal make-up, whether we were born during the time of Taurus or not. We demonstrate our Taurus attributes through our individual Soul charts (our personal Astrology natal charts) and by our personal choices.
Taurus Attributes:
Dharma lessons & Experiential wisdom
Building
Physical Sensing
Enjoyment & Pleasure
Examining Valuables & Personal Values
The Buddha Nature
How can we use Taurus attributes to be discerning in our sensing perception but not overwhelmed by sensory stimuli? How can we enjoy the transience of Nature as Spring flowers eventually give way to Summer fruit? My Taurus attributes work within a creative frequency.
Find Taurus in your personal astrology chart to know the area of life wisdom that is influenced by earthy, sensual Taurus. See if you can create a more sensory experience with Taurus this month.

Planets in Transition: The Astro-Energy of May 2020
The cosmic energies of May 2020 tell us that it’s time to review project plans before we build higher, longer or deeper. What we planned may need adjustment. Being responsible for what speak into existence is key, and we will have plenty of opportunity to review, as slow-moving outer planets and Venus begin the retrograde dance this month.
Retrograde has been deemed a “bad word” too often. True, retrograde can indicate a zig-zag, winding path instead of full steam forward. But we’re here on Earth for the journey, not to Get There – wherever There is. Besides, when we get There, something stirs inside until we find a new There. Let the retrogrades take you deeper into your Sensory Wisdom, instead of tapping your energy to race toward a destination. After all, we’re here to dance a little!
5 May: Lunar Node moves from Cancer to Gemini; Big Shift from the watery, maternal Cancer to the curious, flexible Gemini. For the next two and a half years, our over-arching karmic lessons (on a planetary scale) involve how we Communicate big and personal ideas, how we honor our Personal Philosophy, and respect Others without demanding that they bend their belief structure to our prescriptions. Lunar node axis of Gemini/Sagittarius represents Communication of Belief and Wisdom.
7 May: Full Moon 17° Scorpio – The Sun and Mercury are together (combust). Clear communication may be challenged. Instead, rely on your sensory experience (sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch). This Full Moon in Scorpio is the deep womb of Creation and Elimination. This is a time for purging and opening into a deeper sensory (and extra-sensory) experience of life.
Retrograde dances:
11 May – Saturn turns retrograde in Capricorn; if you didn’t do your “homework,” you will do it Now. Party’s over.
14 May – Jupiter retrogrades in Capricorn. “[The] last time Jupiter went retrograde in Capricorn was the summer of 2008, and we saw the subprime mortgage crisis… [J]ust after Jupiter went direct [sic] there was a bank run… It wasn’t until 2013 that the stock market passed the previous record set in 2007.” (1)
13 May: Venus in Gemini Retrograde – Venus retrogrades every 18 months for about 40 days. Typically, Venus retrogrades show us old lovers/friends and/or investments gone sour to see how our Self-Values have changed. It’s recommended to refrain from large purchases (homes, cars, real estate) or drastic changes to your personal style during this time. Your “irresistible Prince” found during Venus retrograde is likely to turn into a “toad” once Venus moves direct.
22 May: Gemini New Moon – This New Moon is influenced by retrograde Jupiter and Saturn, and their voices may temper the lighter whimsy. Yet, they may have some inti‑ mate wisdom for you. After all, Saturn is The Teacher, and Jupiter is The Professor.
