It’s All Relative

I knew I wanted to select the topic of relatives for this editorial in the May issue. I remember when I was selecting topics for 2020, this possible topic came up, and I knew then I would be writing about this specific topic.

Many Indigenous people believe Earth Day is every day. I believe that We, all humans, are a member of nature and not sep‑ arate from nature. Humans, also known as Two Leggeds, are one of Grandmother Earth’s children; one of her many children.

As I pondered the topic “Relatives,” my belief about Grandmother Earth, and Humans,

a phrase came to my mind. The phrase, “It’s all relative,” is an idiom that has multiple meanings.

Let’s get on the same page in our understanding of “it’s all relative.”

What is an idiom?

I wanted to be sure I knew the definition of an idiom, so I looked it up online using Merriam-Webster.com Here is the definition of the idiom: “an expression in the usage of a language that is peculiar to itself either in having a meaning that cannot be derived from the con‑ joined meanings of its elements (such as up in the air for “unde‑ cided”) or in its grammatically atypical use of words (such as give way).”

Does the definition of idiom help?

Not as much as I would have liked the definition to have a better understanding. There is no clear cut, agreeable, understand‑ ing of an idiom. The way we use it depends on the understanding or interpretation of the idiom’s meaning. Great. Clear as mud.

Did you notice I used more than one idiom to explain an idiom?

Yes, I used “let’s get on the same page” and “clear as mud.”

In my research for my editorial, I realized that the full meaning of “Relatives” could be a challeng‑ ing definition to understand and take in its rich meaning because a person may not be able to agree that a stone or a lake is a “Relative”.

We just finished up celebrating Earth Day in the U.S., on April 22. It was the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. This year acknowledg‑ ing our planet, I would add that She is a sentient Being, we expe‑ rienced Earth Day quite differ‑ ently than in past years due to the Safe in Place all across the United States in response to COVID19.

In this issue of Star Nations Magazine, our contributing writers share with you about May Day, Teacher, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Nurses, Wildflowers, Relatives, and Clairaudience. This issue’s cover is our nod to Wildflowers. winding, path of understanding how we are related to all of cre‑ ation. This deeper understanding, when even partially embraced, leads to a deeper understanding that All life is precious. That we are precious.

So, if we take the phrase, the idiom, “It’s all relative,” to understand its meaning, we may or may not be able to fully understand what it means to be a relative or to be relative.

I used the online EnglishForums. com to identify a possible mean‑ ing of the idiom, “It’s all relative,” and here is their definition: “It’s all relative” means that nothing is absolute; everything is rated or described or evaluated in its relationship to other things.

In some respects, this definition does help a bit, even though the definition is convoluted. I under‑ stand, I get it, that understanding who or what is a “Relative” is a difficult belief to appreciate and believe in wholeheart‑ edly. Our mind and our mental body find the convoluted words hard to grasp.

I believe our soul and our heart, fully understands the twisting,

Even using the phrases, whether in an Indigenous language or English, “All My Relations/ Relatives,” is a very powerful statement and should be used with conscious thought. You may have seen this phrase in my Editorials. I use “Jage Nagonan” in my closing salutation. “Jage Nagonan” is a Potawatomi phrase that loosely translates in English to, All My Relatives. You may also have seen the Lakota phrase, Mitakye Oyasin, which loosely translates in English to, All My Relations.

The intent of these two Indigenous phrases when used is to invoke the Medicine or Spirit the Creator/God/Goddess/ Great Mystery essence that is in everything in creation, which derives from the single source of the Creator. This intent has tremendous energy that we call “Big Medicine”.

all of our brothers and sisters, whether they are another human or if they are a tree, stone, bird, or body of water. Here is the rub for some people (another idiom used!).

Some people have a belief that anything that is not human is an inanimate object, a thing with‑ out life, and deserves no further thought or concern. I believe this is a fundamental cause of sepa‑ ration. If you believe that water is not worth your time or thought, why would you protect it or stop throwing trash overboard?

Is it possible for the royal “We” to get on the same page and understand the fuller meaning of “Relatives”? Do you believe it is all relative in a different way now? I hope you create some space and time to consider your understanding of being a “Relative” and being Relative.

THE WHISPERS OF THE WILDFLOWERS

By Adriane Campbell As I sit by the window writing, I can see the sun streaming its rays through the glass. The birds are praising the season in song and the leaves are blowing in the breeze. I love the cycles that emerge and spiral through each season. We feel it internally when we choose and we see it too, welcoming the energy and allowing it to flow through our experience. For myself, it currently feels like an enchanted flow of incense smoke, circling throughout my energy field.

There is so much energy happening now, when we drop into it, we can feel its entirety. A lot of us have been in nature more these past few weeks than we have been in some time. It’s such a great tool for dropping inside, grounding, and feeling the trueness of now.

Throughout my recent walks I have been visited by many wildflowers. Their medicine is so magical – it’s free, compassionate, loving, and boundless. It reminds us to be who we are and to sprout into our truth, however and wherever we are.

The days of May bring this medicine to us abun‑ dantly, which allows me to feel alive as a wild one and to sense the energy of the month. Using the Tarot in addition to the wildflower’s essence, we can look closely into this time. Let us go deeper into the month and proceed with a ritual to drop even

further into our wild soul, to go to the beginning of our roots where our seed was planted. We have already begun, we are ready.

This time is a search for truth. Many of us have created identities for many reasons. It might be to fit into society, to maintain the conditions that we were raised with, etc. This costume that we have created is not who we truly are. We are being asked to shed the mask and be the person behind it. It is a time where some people may not be what they seem and we must make the choice to drop into the heart, to say farewell to the costume, and be our truth.

With this truth-seeking energy also comes the lesson or experiences. There is something that needs to be understood. Now is a strong time for dream wisdom. Pay attention to the themes that

You will need: Wildflowers 1 small quartz crystal 1 small container with lid 1 purple candle Dream journal & pen Begin by going out in nature to forage some wildflowers, bring your container with you. Please remember to always ask for permission before harvesting. Once you have permission from the wildflowers, begin to fill your container, taking only what you need. When you are finished, close your eyes and take a deep breath, express gratitude to the wildflowers, then go inside when you are ready.

Light your candle in your conjuring space and set your intention to your spell bottle. Ask that the bottle unlock your dream state and for you to remember your dreams when you wake. Set this intention as you place the quartz crystal inside of your bottle and place the lid on your container. Carefully drip some candle wax around the lid to seal the magic. You may allow the candle to burn out naturally beside your spell bottle or if you wish to extinguish the flame, thank the fire spirits before doing so, using a candle snuffer if you have one. Thank the energies involved and yourself.

Place the spell bottle, dream journal, and your writing tool by your bed. When you are ready to sleep, ask your spell bottle again to unlock your dream state and to remember your dreams when you wake. Recite the mantra to yourself: “It is safe for me to see”. Allow the magic to unfold, and record your dreams in your journal when you open your eyes.

You can recharge your spell bottle at anytime by lighting a purple candle beside it or placing it under the full moon.

Often we receive dream wisdom when there are so many details that we need to receive. These

are deep aspects of ourselves that require insight and keeps bringing us deeper into our roots of truth.

Wildflower also shows us to surrender to the flow, allowing the bend to happen as neces‑ sary with a solid foundation. As the flowers are grounded by the root into Mother Earth, they still endure tests. The wind spirits may burst and leave the flower without petals or leaves. As the medicine wheel cycles through it is important to remember that all things change. We are always spiraling, though at various speeds. It is necessary to feel all layers: earth, water, fire, wind, branches, and roots. When we do this, we allow ourselves to see past our beginning and into the larger picture for humanity.

We can then grow our roots strong and ground them, extend‑ ing them into the core of the earth so that we can remain flexible, allowing ourselves to go with the changes and continue to grow, re-blooming, and expand.

Lastly, the wildflowers of May bring in the message that we have the strength to overcome any obstacles. Can you see the theme within this wisdom?

unknown, ready for whatever is to come. This has been a chal‑ lenging time for many, but these experiences also create a lust for life. The wildflower wisdom reminds us not to frolic over the flowers by skipping along the surface, but to jump into our field of emotions. Feel not only the joys, and wonders; feel every‑ thing! When we do this, we will unlock all layers of ourselves, working through any avoid‑ ance, reaching the beauty of our wild self.

Sometimes it is necessary to take a step back and see the situation from a different perspective to gain clarity and peace of mind. Just as the bird swoops down to dance in the flowers and soar back to the skies, it is important to see and feel in all directions to move freely. Use the perspective and vision of the bird’s eye to gain clarity, con‑ necting from the earth to the stars. Keep looking beyond and fly with the unknown!

Mother’s Love

This year, 2020, will be a Mother’s Day we will remember for a long time. Amidst the lock down or shut down of many states across the country due to the Corona Virus, we will surely be celebrating in a different way.

It is important to recognize all mothers, all species of mothers, on this day.

Since the shutdown that came forth from COVID-19, we have seen the air around the planet clear, and the waterways are also crystal clear. Life is bursting forth with a sigh of relief as the planet, Mother Earth or Gaia

has been healing in this time. It has been a pause in the action of the humans on Earth that has allowed this healing to take place.

Women as mothers have been able to spend more time with their families. We have become the teachers for our children as well as the primary care givers.

This is what mothers do – we nurture. We encourage growth, we teach kindness and caring for others, and we set the example for living from the heart.

As we spend this Mother’s Day with our families and connect electronically with our extended families, let us remember who has made our being here pos‑ sible and all that the energy of the female mother has brought to our lives and the well being of the planet.

I bring you a recipe for a lovely cake, a Hummingbird Cake, that can me made for Mother’s Day to show our gratitude and appreciation for all that the mothers of the world do for humanity and the planet.

Mother’s Day brings forth mem‑ ories from our childhood. They were days usually spent with the family including grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Games would be played by all and there was always a brunch or special lunch with dessert included. The celebration was to show our mothers our love for them and to honor them with a special day just for them.

GLUTEN FREE HUMMINGBIRD CAKE Cake 2½ cups all purpose gluten free flour (I use King Arthur’s GF Measure for Measure) It already has Xanthan gum in it.

(1¼ teaspoons xanthan gum, omit if your blend already contains it) ½ cup arrowroot 2 teaspoons baking powder ¼ teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature 6 tablespoons vegetable oil 1¼ cups granulated sugar 3 eggs + 1 egg yolk (at room temperature, beaten) 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract ½ cup mashed ripe bananas 8-ounce can crushed pineapple in its own juices 2 cups diced ripe (but not overripe) bananas 1 cup chopped raw pecans

Frosting:

Cream cheese (8-ounce package), at room temperature 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 6 cups confectioners’ sugar, plus more as necessary

Optional for Decorating:

½ to ¾ cup chopped raw pecans fresh edible flowers – I used Pansies

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease well 2, 9-inch round cake pans and set them aside.

In a medium-size bowl, place the flour, arrowroot, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, (xanthan gum if used), whisk to combine well. Set the bowl of dry ingredi‑ ents aside. Beat the butter and oil on medium - high speed until well-combined. Add the granulated sugar, eggs and vanilla, and beat on medium-high speed until well-com‑ bined and the mixture becomes pale yellow in color. Add the dry ingredients, alternating with the ½ cup mashed bananas and crushed pineapple (with its juices), mixing on medium speed to combine after each addition. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, the batter will be thick.

Add the diced bananas and chopped pecans. Mix by hand until the bananas and pecans are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.

Spread into an even layer in each pan with a wet spatula. Place in the center of the preheated oven and bake, until the tops are very lightly golden brown. If needed, rotate the pans once to get an evenly browned top. Insert a toothpick in the center of each cake. It should come out mostly clean. Remove from the oven and cool in the cake pans for 15 minutes before transfer‑ ring to wire racks to cool completely.

The frosting: In the clean bowl of a stand mixer or a clean large bowl with a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese and butter on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla and beat to combine. Add about half of the confectioners’ sugar; beat on medium-low speed until the sugar has been absorbed by the butter and cream cheese mixture. Add the rest of the confectioners’ sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating on medium speed to combine after each addition. Once all of the sugar has been combined into the mixture, increase the mixer speed to high and beat until light and fluffy. The frosting should hold its shape when scooped, but should not be completely stiff.

Assemble the cake: Place one of the cooled cakes upside down on a serving platter. Place about 1/4 of the frosting on top and spread into an even layer. Invert the second cake place on top of the frosted bottom layer and press gently to adhere. For a very neat frosted cake, cover the entire top and sides of the cake in a very thin layer of frosting, (a naked cake look) and place in the fridge until firm (about 15 minutes). Remove the cake from the fridge and cover the top and sides with the remaining frosting, spreading into an even layer.

Optional: Decorate with ½ to ¾ cup chopped raw pecans and press gently to adhere to the sides of the cake. You may also use fresh flowers to dress up the top of the cake. I used Pansies. Make sure whatever flowers you use that they are edible!

Refrigerate the decorated cake for at least 15 minutes before slicing with a sharp knife into generous slices. Enjoy!

Note: The inspiration for this recipe came from Paula Deen’s Hummingbird Cake recipe. My version is lighter and Gluten Free.

Listen to the waves of the Ocean that live within you. The rhythm of the waves moving to the shore and away have a message and a meaning for you, if you take the time to breathe and listen.

Storms of change have brew‑ ing on the Earth plane at an accelerated rate. Mother Earth is stretching and growing,

evolving into a new version of Herself, as are all beings upon her surface. Storms create the Ocean waves to get choppy, frothy, and to crash upon the rocks and the shoreline. Your Awareness is the shoreline, what you experience as the Ocean comes to you and at times, away from you. If you aren’t paying attention to the Ocean, you don’t notice the shift in color, the speed of the waves, or the movement in general. In that case, you are standing still in one place, like a rock on the

shoreline, and change smacks into you at varying speeds, while you simply see if you can weather the storm or not. You are being invited to step into the Ocean — to become the change and rhythm of Mother Earth Herself.

Daunting thought for some, a curiosity for others, and a possibility for a few. Go back to the vision of your Ocean. Has anything changed in response to simply reading these words?

Action and reaction create waves of their own making.

Envision your Ocean, the color of the water, the waves coming to shore, the temperature of the water, all of it. Each minute the Ocean is there but ever chang‑ ing. Even the shoreline is chang‑ ing, if you have the perceptive eyes that notice such. As you hold this thought within you, we will discuss you, humanity, and the change that is underway on the Earth plane.

thinking that all the Ocean is you. Other people, who are less Aware, bounce along in their singular drop, barely aware of the vastness of droplets around them.

Emotions impact the tempera‑ ture of the water. Your thoughts and beliefs are like the wind, impacting the speed of the waves. Your life experience cre‑ ates the shoreline that change connects with.

When change is minor, it cre‑ ates little waves. You navigate the shift easily, dancing through the shifts in a playful manner.

When things become stormy, you brace yourself for the impact, but only if you sense the storm coming. Others pretend like the storm is no big deal and continue on their merry way, only to be washed over, knocked down, and tumbled in the undertow. Some of you

take preparations for the storm of change. You go inside, you have the supplies needed, and you wait until it is safe to go out‑ ward to see what has shifted.

The difficulty with Mother Earth’s waves of change is that she has an Ocean of her own.

You are a drop in that Ocean.

Stepping into Awareness of this invites noticing the shifts taking your Awareness to a higher level. Those of you who have opened your empathic skills can sense this is in your energetic and emotional bodies. Without practice in honing that skill, you can feel tossed around by the waves, overwhelmed at times by the experience of all that water,

Humanity has its own Ocean within Mother Earth’s Ocean.

Again, the beliefs that you hold true create Mother Earth’s shoreline. Each culture, religion, and country create their own views of what her Ocean and shoreline look like. When you each describe the Ocean, it will sound similar but different because of the perspective that you experience it from. Some of you see a rocky coastline, rigid beliefs of a society unwill‑ ing to move, shift, and change.

Others of you see a white sandy beach, where the Ocean can come and wash away all the scenery in one big storm. The visions are as unique as you are and the experiences that you have encountered until now.

When you talk to one another about the current storms, the virus, the reactions to it, and how the storm has hit your home, all will have a different story to tell. Some of these stories will be similar, some not. When you listen, you can begin to sense the Ocean of Humanity versus the Ocean of Self. This global impact is necessary for the Humanity Ocean to recognize its Oneness rather than the separateness that has plagued you for far too long.

Your structures within your societies have become rigid, not allowing room for waves of

change, but resisting it at every turn. When this happens, Mother Earth steps in to invite change by stirring things up. She creates opportunities for growth and rebirth, if you simply can embrace the possibility.

Humanity has been rigid for so long that it has forgotten its Ocean. Like a desert that once held communion with the water, it has been slowly drying up. As you have disconnected from your Oneness, you have lost sight of the fact that each drop in the Ocean makes up the whole. When you pull drops out of the Ocean, it becomes smaller and eventually dries up. You are being challenged to come together at this time, to forget the rigidity of the past, and remember the vast‑ ness of whom you can truly be when you gather as One. This idea, this thought, frightens those who have never ventured past the vision of their own shoreline. Those unwilling to see the storms, those unwilling to go inward or prepare for change, are destined to call in storms of higher and higher destructive capacities. Change or be changed, as many have said.

Within you, it is time to refocus your perception to the similarities, not the differences.

Mother Earth is checking her own Ocean, to see if more water needs clearing, to see if she has room to evolve with all the rigid energy being held on her surface by portions of humanity. That’s where your Ocean of Self can make a difference. There are some who feel overwhelmed by the possibil‑ ity of humanity needing to change but all that is being asked is to look within your own Ocean and sense where you’ve held the notion of Otherness with portions of humanity and shift it. Culture, religion, ethnicity, and tribe have all been ways to identify Self within the drops of the Ocean of humanity. They were not meant to create hier‑ archies within your reality. They were meant to accentuate the distinctions, not create separations.

Envision once more the Ocean within. How are your waves, your shoreline, your water’s color, and temperature? Notice the difference once more as change was simply suggested. When you become more attuned to the Ocean within, you can then begin to do the same with the Ocean of Humanity and the Ocean of Mother Earth. Harmony of rhythm between the three is what is being called forth at this time. This is to be done one drop at a time, one Ocean at a time. Becoming aware of the rhythms of each Ocean and how they impact one another is all that is being asked. Become aware of dishar‑ mony inside of yourself, shift it, and impact all the Oceans at once.

When we are out in nature, the aliveness of Spirit is always pul‑ sating and thriving like the breath of the heartbeat. Everything is alive and pulsating with a spirit.

Although, sometimes nature and Spirit speak in direct words, they are frequency words and lan‑ guage that first chimes with tones

When you touch or pick up a rock, it is alive with ancient wisdom and healing power from the core of its spirit through the language of stillness. You will feel it shifting and cleansing your vibration, along with opening up your pathways to the Spiritual Heart of Surrender. Then you experience the Elder River of Wisdom from the rock flooding

When you are in the forest sitting on a rock or a stump in the middle of a group of pine trees, you can hear the wind blowing through the pine trees as a harmonious collaboration.

The placement and movement of the needles are in alignment with the wind making its signa‑ ture sound and open frequency.

This sound is different from other tree collaborations.

This experience is not something you are creating, you are aligning to the experience that is already there and has always been the experience of your existence.

Notice when practicing the experience, the shift in frequency.

One frequency is natural without effort while the other is dense and heavy.

We are an alignment of sound therefore the sound of the wind aligning to the pine trees opens a sound field in our frequency that raises our vibration. Even if we only feel the experience for a moment, it takes us to listen‑ ing through the heart and mind connection.

The experience of the sound is not defining the wind and the pine trees are making a particular sound, but noticing the feeling

This is not a mental field or surface experience. Immediately this will take you to your center and out of the thinking mind.

Your center is not a place, it’s an experience. When you become silent and still with that experience,

Do You Hear What I Hear?

When I decided to write this month’s article on the topic of clairaudience, I playfully said, “OK Angels, please give me some examples in the days ahead so I can explain this to my readers.” Immediately after issuing that prayer, I heard fireworks go off in the distance. Note: it was a Monday night at 11pm, so not a typical time for celebratory expression! examples of how the Angels use our bodies, the animal kingdom, and media to share their wisdom.

1. Having a coughing fit, when I am doing a psychic read‑ ing or giving an energy healing to someone. If my client or I have a coughing fit, that becomes an important part of the session. In

this case, the client’s fifth chakra, or communication center, was blocked. As communication includes both listening and speaking, we needed to clear what was preventing my client from hearing divine messages accurately.

2. Being guided to listen to Abby Wambach’s, Barnard College, 2018 Commencement speech. This came about by initially seeing a post by her wife, Glennon Doyle and following the inner nudge to go to You Tube to search for the speech. As I listened, I understood why this would be important to share with you.

In the speech she talks about wolves, who are our wise animal teachers. Abby says, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”

In this time of uncertainty and conflicting information by those in positions of authority, it is time for us to go within, listen to the wisdom of our intuition, and act as guided. Surrounding yourself with your wolfpack inspires you to feel a sense of belonging and unity during this time of physical distancing.

3. Hearing a pack of coyotes outside my window two nights in a row… and then seeing one march across my lawn in broad daylight the next day! One night the coyotes were howling so loudly they woke me up from a sound sleep.

Coyote is the trickster, encourag‑ ing us to lighten up and see the humor in a situation, including the ways we are sabotaging ourselves. I have been listening to the audio book, Taming Your Outer Child by Susan Anderson, which is about breaking patterns of self-sabotage. The coyote was a reminder to laugh at our past mistakes and to not take per‑ sonal growth so seriously.

4. Hearing lyrics from the song Surrender by Natalie Taylor “Whenever you’re ready, when‑ ever you’re ready Whenever you’re ready, when‑ ever you’re ready Can we, can we surrender?

Can we, can we surrender?

I surrender…”

This is such a beautiful song that elicits a heart-opening feeling of willingness to say, “Yes,” to the Angels. They are asking us to surrender all of our cares and fears to them, whenever we are ready.

5. Experiencing Kermit play the song Rainbow Connection during a heal‑ ing, while I was at my client’s heart chakra, I saw Kermit with his guitar. As I brought more healing energy to her heart, I

The Real Sacred Geometry Real sacred geometry is connected to the sun and the earth and enhances your connection to the divine. Real sacred geometry is not primarily concerned with numbers such as Phi, the Golden Mean, or the Fibonacci spiral. Real sacred geometry is the intimate connection of the earth with the sun, the moon, and the stars.

A marvelous stone marked some of these very first sacred places.

Examples can be found at Delphi with their carved omphalos stone, the navel of their world. Also, in Ireland, the Stone of Destiny stands on top of the Hill of Tara, the sacred dwelling place of the gods and entrance to the underworld.

The Golden Mean is only a piece of the totality of sacred geometry.

The streams of thought born in England, that the Golden Mean and Fibonacci sequences are the beginning and end of sacred geometry, are missing the most fundamental piece of the equation.

Where do humans meet the divine? Again, Mircea Eliade gives us a little insight. “Every reli‑ gion identifies a place and a time when the transcendent breaks into the world. When it does, it makes holy or sacred the place and the time of the breakthrough.”

To begin, the definition of ‘sacred’ is connected to a place where the human meets the divine. A word which nicely sums up the defi‑ nition of sacred is ‘hierophany’, which means the appearance of the divine. Hierophany is a word made popular by Mircea Eliade in the 1950s in his seminal work The Sacred and the Profane: The Nature of Religion.

There were particular places for each culture where this transcen‑ dence appeared, and many times it became the center of their world.

These places of breakthrough are where heaven and earth connect and can be called the axis mundi.

After identifying a sacred place, protecting it was next. How did they design and build a holy space? A measurement was needed. Clues to this measure‑ ment may be found in the Greek word geometry. Geo – means earth, and metron translates into

point of the four cardinal direc‑ tions. Outside of its boundaries is chaos and the unknown.

Earth Energies

A well-known one comes from India, found in the Tibetan Kalachakra. Elaborately drawn with circles, squares, with the axis mundi in the sacred center, these types of mandalas present an orderly 2D representation of the cosmos, as well as, a 3D view of their world.

To understand how this mandala was first conceived, we need to go back in time. Imagine yourself in Neolithic times. The sun would be the most important celestial body to you. It was the main god in many cultures, controlling life and death.

As well as needing measurement, organizing a sacred place is essential. The axis mundi is the connection between earth and the cosmos. The axis mundi is often associated with mandalas, and the simplest ones are comprised of a square and a circle which are

a 2-dimensional representation of the axis mundi.

The square represents the earth, and the circle represents the cosmos. Four gates can indicate the four cardinal points. Because mandalas are a way of depicting the organization of sacred space, they become cosmic diagrams of the world.

For these early people, marking the solstice sunrise and sunset points was an essential part in the creation of their sacred places, because they marked the appearance of their god, the sun. Evidence of this is found in dolmens, passage tombs, and stone circles aligned to the rising or setting sun of the solstices and equinoxes.

In Brittany, France, a different example of alignment to the sol‑ stices is found. Crucuno Cromlech is a giant stone rectangle, whose four corners are aligned to a sol‑ stice sunrise or sunset. This rectan‑ gle is extraordinary in our search for real sacred geometry because it uses something special - mea‑ surements of the earth.

Early people tracked the sun’s travels throughout the year. They knew it moved each day a little more north or south until it came to a halt twice a year and then reversed its direction. These two significant times of the year are the summer and winter solstices.

Earth Energies

As we mentioned before, ancient people tracked the movement of the sun throughout the year.

From a bird’s eye perspective, a rectangular shape emerges from the yearly pattern of our sun.

However, the rectangle can be any length.

Another measurement is needed, which is given to us by the earth.

A grid-like form is found on the surface of the planet, which is connected to the sun god. This grid emanates from the central core of the earth and was re-dis‑ covered by the Frenchman Dr. Peyré in 1937.

It is an electromagnetic net run‑ ning in north-south and east-west directions. Its size varies with latitude, and it goes by several names, such as the solar net, Peyré net, and to the Hopi’s it is called the Road of the Sun. It was known as a golden net to our ancestors, and its measure‑ ments were used to build their sacred places.

When the two measurements of the sun and the earth are com‑ bined, something magical occurs.

A rectangular shape is created.

This shape begins to organize the energies within it. Order emerges out of chaos, and this rectangle is the starting point for the mandala and the axis mundi.

Another of its unique characteris‑ tics is that a vortex appears in the center, where there was nothing before, it is the place where we can meet the divine. It connects the earth with the sun, traveling all the way from the underworld to the cosmos, as does the axis mundi.

When standing in the center of this solar rectangle, which we call a solsticial quadrilateral, a connec‑ tion to the earth can be felt. It is a grounded feeling as if being pulled downwards into the earth.

The energy then begins to rise through your body, balancing the chakras as it rises.

For many people, this is a pro‑ found and spiritual experience, especially when it reaches the throat chakra. This chakra is the gateway to the ability to access spiritual planes. When this chakra opens for the first time, some people cry with joy. The energy continues to the crown and upwards to the cosmos.

The solsticial quadrilateral is the first sacred space and was used all over the world to build temples, churches, and homes. It is the real sacred geometry. From the basic measurements found in the solsti‑ cial quadrilateral, a mandala can be created, with squares, circles,

and the five elements. The cos‑ mology of the universe is ordered and structured inside and the axis mundi is present in the center.

One crucial quality of this sol‑ sticial quadrilateral, besides its universal use around the world, is that it is alive and connected to life. The union between the solar energies and the earth create its measurements which have an inti‑ mate connection to the land, the place, and the people.

This relationship to the place makes the measurements a chang‑ ing dynamic. The Golden Mean is actually found in the solar man‑ dala hidden in polygons such as the pentagon and in the relation‑ ship between the musical notes and the Elements.

The Golden Mean was not the only proportion used by ancient cultures. The 345 triangle which has the proportion of 1.333 was also well known by the ancients.

The Hindus, Greeks, Egyptians, and Mayans all used it in building their temples. The 345 triangle was considered more important than the Golden Mean because rectangular angles were made possible.

These relationships illustrate that the two main proportions, the 345 (1.333) and the Golden Mean (1.618), are generated by the mandala. However, it is crucial to understand that developing a geometry based solely on the Golden Mean without reference to the sacred solar mandala, is a huge mistake.

As an example, if we look at a tree, it is rooted into the earth, and the growth of its leaves and branches could be related to the Golden Mean, but its leaves are like solar panels, always con‑ nected to the sun. As you can see, the Golden Mean is the only part of the development of the tree.

It is the same for buildings, it is first necessary to connect the structure to the earth and sun, then incor‑ porate the measurement of the Golden Mean. To be effective, the Golden Mean needs to be anchored to the earth, just like all plants, trees, animals, and humans.

Real sacred geometry is this anchor, connected to the sun, to the earth, and to life itself.

Without a connection to the earth and life, it will not work well, and it is potentially dangerous. People become ungrounded, losing their connection to reality, developing difficulties in manifesting their ideas and goals.

Communicating with Sacred Animals

If You Could Hear What I Hear

Have you ever heard of the expression, “The Clairs”? It may sound like the name of a rock band if you aren’t familiar with them. It refers to psychic abilities as they relate to your senses. Clair is the French version of clear. Some people think there are five, six, eight or I have even seen ten different definitions of different psychic abilities.

Let’s just keep it simple and break it down to the six most common types of clear psychic abilities.

Clairvoyant (clear seeing) Clairaudience (clear hearing) Clairsentience (clear feeling) Clairalience (clear smelling) Clairgustance (clear tasting) Claircognizance (clear knowing) As an Animal Communicator, I communicate with Animals telepathically, which according to dictionary.com means: “com‑ munication of thoughts or ideas

by means other than the known senses”. So, it is communicat‑ ing without speaking and even without body language. It is “mind to mind” communication. It certainly sounds weird, but it is an amazing tool to use in com‑ municating with Animals.

It doesn’t even stop there, during this mind to mind communica‑ tion, Animals communicate to me in different ways. The most common way is - I can hear them speaking to me. Sometimes a word or two, but mostly they are full sentences just as you and I would speak to each other. We are having a silent conversation.

This is called Clairaudience (clear hearing).

Clairaudience occurs in one of two ways, you either hear the sounds audibly with your own ears, or you hear it inside your head, with your “mind’s ear” so to speak. For me, with Animals, I hear the Animals speak in my head. I often dream of hear‑ ing them audibly with my own ears, out loud, like in the Eddie Murphy version of the Doctor Doolittle movie. If you haven’t seen it, the Animals seek him out and talk out loud as they have conversations with him.

Communicating with Sacred Animals

Why do I dream of this way, when I can hear them in my mind, I mean, isn’t it the same thing? Well, the words are the same, but it would just remove any doubt that what I am hear‑ ing is not just a random thought that is running through my head, and it would make it much more obvious when another Animal jumps into the conversation. But it certainly isn’t necessary for me to communicate with them, it would just be more interesting to hear their little voices.

Honestly, I am always grate‑ ful when animals speak to me using words, even if it is only in my “mind’s ear”. It is often much easier than getting a photo in my mind. They say a picture tells a thousand words (and I believe it’s mostly true), but it can also be deceiving.

For example, I had a Dog show me a photo of him sitting with his head hung down a bit and he was shaking. It was obvi‑ ous that he was either cold or insecure because he was sitting with his head hung a bit, he wasn’t curled up in a ball, and it was June; I went with inse‑ cure. So, I told his family that he was showing me that he is insecure. His “mom” stopped me and said that he is actually an extremely confident Dog. I then mentioned the photo that he showed me. She said that he has seizures and when he does, he sits with his head hung down and he shakes.

I obviously didn’t get any of that from the photo he showed me. If he used Clairaudience

and spoke to me, he could have said, “Leslie, I have seizures.

When this happens, I sit and hang my head down and it causes my body to shake.” That would have been much more effective in this case.

If you could imagine talking to an Animal and having it be a game of Pictionary where all you see if a picture with nothing to go with it, it can be difficult.

So having the Clairaudience and hearing what they are tell‑ ing me is very effective.

One of my favorite parts of speaking with an Animal is to hear what they sound like.

Often they sound just like me, in my head. But even if they sound like my voice, they have a dif‑ ferent cadence, different inflec‑ tions, and different vocabulary.

I love it when Animals use words I don’t even know and I have to ask the family or go look them up. Yes, Animals are often smarter than I am. But my favorite times are when they sound like themselves and they have an accent! That often surprises me.

my Dog, Luna, actually has a Russian accent. She refers to me as Modder, my husband as Fodder, and her brother Barney always as Bernard. Apparently, Russians are a bit more formal speaking, or at least Luna is. This is not because she is from Russia.

Often, I find that Animals that have accents are emulating their personalities through their accent. For example, I communicated with a Dog that was very sweet and kind and extremely soft spoken. Her accent come through as this sweet, southern bell and her family validated that it indeed matches her personality.

I am grateful for my clairaudi‑ ence gift. It gives me the abil‑ ity to help so many Animals and their families by relaying information to each other. I often say that I am a foreign language translator between Animals and their people. I have to say that I think it’s the best job in the world!

May is the month of Taurus, the Bull, from approximately April 20th to May 20th. Taurus rules the Spring mid-season when flowers are in full array. In the Northern Hemisphere, the golden hues of the first Spring buds have broad‑ ened into a pallet of fuchsia, purple, pink, white, blue and more! My dogwood trees billow brightly in white and soft-pink breezes. The neighbor’s azaleas are rainbow colored. It is a flower-ific celebration of Spring during the time of Taurus.

When the Sun is in the mansion of Taurus, we inti‑ mately explore our sensory world. Our physical senses are on high alert as the weather changes, the flowers bloom, the animals are called from their wintery hidey-holes and the natural world

springs into action. Sometimes, this sensory expe‑ rience overloads our system, and we can develop spring allergies. Still, Birders, like me, welcome back the colorful Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, the greatly anticipated Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and other Spring visitors.

We also experience the transience of life during the Sun’s reign in Taurus. The dogwoods even‑ tually pale. Lilacs sweeten the breeze for a few weeks and then allow other flowers their fragrant songs. Some Spring birds, like the Ruby-throated Hummingbird and the Prothonotary Warbler, stay the summer to nest before they move on, but some, like the Rose-breasted Grosbeak, stay only long enough to fill up before moving North and into Canada toward their Spring breeding grounds.

Putting Yourself into a Self-hypnotic Trance Most of us can remember one of the first times we rode a bicycle. It was an unsteady but exciting experience. We soon learned we had some control over a new dimension of our own abilities – increased balance and coordination.

Of course, we already had balance and coordination, but this was something special: a delightful application of an enhanced skill. This is what you can expect from learning self-hypnosis.

You already have many of the abilities you may be seeking to improve with the help from my articles – for example, con‑ centration and memory. And you already possess the basis for the changes you seek – immune enhancement, pain control, stress management, habit control, physical changes, parenting skills, or so many other goals. Self-hypnosis is a natural skill; like riding a bicycle, it will help get you where you want to go.

The first thing to do is to get com‑ fortable. Ideally, begin by relax‑ ing in a place you have selected that is peaceful and quiet. You may find yourself with feelings of expectation and anticipation – this is quite natural – just as with the bicycle.

Self-hypnosis is an individual, personal experience; therefore,

you need to take an active role in formulating the best technique for yourself. There are so many different and good techniques to choose from, but for this article, I will provide one example of a technique that I use mostly with children. You may want to choose another or create your own combination of techniques.

One of the techniques that I will share with you now is called the eye fixation method. I would like to point out that many of the following explanations can become a script that you can adapt for your own purposes or even to make an audio record‑ ing from your smartphone.

Once you are in a relaxed, secure position and have taken several deep, comfortable, sat‑ isfying breaths – look in front of you. Find some small object or spot out in front of you and

above your line of sight. Some examples for this spot are a mark on the wall, the tip of a plant leaf, a part of a picture, or anything stationary.

Focus all your conscious attention to the spot or object – gaze at it, examine it in detail.

Continue slow, deep, satisfying breathing. Keep your attention on the spot and work all your thoughts toward it. The idea is to eliminate any extraneous thoughts and forget all problems, worries, and anxieties as much as possible. Do not worry if a stray thought or two slips into your mind now and then. That is difficult to prevent without prac‑ tice, but that is precisely what you are doing – practicing. You will get better at clearing your mind of distracting thoughts.

As other thoughts come into your mind, allow them to pass through

you, and return to thoughts about “your spot.” Continue slow, deep, satisfying breathing. Begin telling yourself how relaxed you feel.

Focusing on the spot you have chosen will help preempt other thoughts.

Begin giving your suggestions such as: “with each deep relax‑ ing, satisfying breath I take, I feel relaxation spreading down from my shoulders and back, down through my legs and into my toes. The more I relax, the better I feel.” Put these sugges‑ tions into your own words if you like. The exact wording is not important. If your goal – relax‑ ation - is clear and your sugges‑ tions are positive, your meaning will be understood.

You may feel your eyes water‑ ing and blinking. Give yourself

suggestions to encourage your eyes to close: “As my eyes focus on the spot I have chosen, I may find that they feel tired. As my eyes water and blink, it is as if the more they blink, the more they are clearing away all worries, concerns, and anxieties.

My body is relaxed and at ease, and my eyes and my mind can be just as comfortable, relaxed, and at ease.”

You may spend as long as 10 to 15 minutes with open eyes during the first few practice sessions. Or you may find that in only a few minutes, your eyes become tired and heavy. You decide when you want to close your eyes. No one needs to decide that for you.

Continue with suggestions such as: “I may notice that as my eyes continue to focus on the spot I

have chosen, I can decide when I want to close my eyes. Just as I make decisions like when to go to sleep in the evening, I can decide when it is most comfort‑ able for me to close my eyes.”

As best you can, keep a steady flow of mental suggestions of this nature going to yourself. You can say the same things in many ways. Change the words slightly or change the order of the words.

Find different ways of conveying the same idea of concentration on the spot, on relaxation, and on your eyes wanting to close.

Repetition of the suggestions and monotony of the focus on one spot will shortly cause your eyes to want to close. If, after 10 to 15 minutes, they still feel wide open, do not worry, you can close them gently.

Once your eyes are closed, continue giving yourself sugges‑ tions that you are relaxed and feeling safe and comfortable.

The suggestions you give your‑ self may be similar to those you used in progressive relaxation.

Even though you may feel very relaxed and comfortable, con‑ tinue giving yourself suggestions to reinforce and generalize the

At this point, you can begin to repeat your predetermined sug‑ gestion, change, goal, feeling, etc. that you want to manifest in your life. You can say the same suggestions in multiple different ways. An example for self-love and vibrant health is: I am one with ALL OF LIFE – I deeply and completely love and accept myself – I see myself and what I do with eyes of love – I am safe – I bring joy to the center of my heart – I express love to all – JoyJoyJoy – I lovingly allow joy to flow through my mind, body and spirit – I breathe freely and fully – I trust the process of life.

Relatives‑ Life’s Very Large Surprise

By Tony Cherette In 2020, we see and read much in the news about relatives in various forms, from articles talking about how families had to shelter-in-place to postponed weddings, graduation, and celebrations. It seems the one common denominator in those stories is the idea of “family.”

First, let’s start with a loose definition of “relative.”

It is one who is connected to another, either through marriage or blood. As far as “family,” it generally is known as a group of descendants or children and parents in a household. While there are differences in the definitions, it seems to come down to principals who interact with one another.

I think we can agree to expand that definition outwards a touch to strike a more accurate note on who is and who isn’t a “relative.”

Think for a moment when you were a younger person, and a holiday would come around, imbu‑ ing in you a sense of excitement to see your favor‑ ite aunt or uncle. Or trepidation. How would you mentally prepare a few things to ask that favorite person or play out in your mind a conversation you either wanted to finish or start anew with them?

Having a favorite “relative” or being the “favorite” relative is a rite-of-passage in many social groups.

Speaking of a rite of passage, let’s drop into a dis‑ cussion of “family-by-choice.”

Many have heard of the life-saving as a well innovative concept of “family-by-choice” as well as established that particular network in their own lives. I seem to resonate with the definition of this concept as being people we feel akin to whom we prefer to spend time, energy, money, and love on and with. Elective “relatives” or “family” if you will.

Stop a moment and think of people whom you would like to see more often, deepen relationships with as well as simply share a laugh with. Write a quick list of those names and permit yourself to email them within a week. You may want to see them at your next holiday gathering or celebration and, more importantly, give them a higher priority in your life.

Speaking of those types of gatherings, I know it can be stressful for some folks to think of their blood relatives/families as not all folks have kind, caring, rational, or simply enjoyable folks in their group. For those of you who don’t like or love their relatives, the idea of picking a new group is a goal worth your consideration.

Can I swing wide for a moment and talk with regard to how “relatives” are seen in Native American and Indigenous culture?

The terms “relative” and “relation” can be uti‑ lized interchangeably or individually in many tribal groups and generally indicate a clan membership, an adopted relation, a birth relation, or someone who is thought of in kindly terms with no genetic connection.

Each tribe generally has extensive histories with clan relationships, and I mention this as it can impact much socially within a tribe. It influences marriages, gatherings, types of ceremonies as

well as how and when an Elder may share their wisdom.

One tenet held within many of the 567 Federally recognized tribes as well those who have not achieved Federal recognition, is the idea of how someone who is outside of a Native family actually can become a “relative” or “relation.” We referenced this above, so let’s expound on this par‑ ticular “mystery.”

The process of welcoming someone into a tribe is complex in that it involves often times much ceremony, the seeking of a “sacred” name for the “new” relative as well as gifting, announcements, and the like.

For Native American people, a person can come into their lives and become a beloved “member” of their tribe or Nation without the bene‑ fit of blood, sometimes. As mentioned, this centers around the relationship itself and is practical as well. An example is a child from one tribe who is adopted into another one and then becomes a

However, the way and means that sweats are conducted on Turtle Island have specific, Indigenous protocol, native to this land. From the selection of the Lodge Chief to the rock carriers, there are strict and functional rules to ensure the sacredness of the ceremony is put into play.

One of the most useful ideas of a sweat comes from the clan relations. Some of them are responsi‑ ble for the sweat ceremony and are tasked with the well-being of the community’s mental health. As such, some will “put” up a sweat for a US veteran of their tribe, whether active or inactive status, to help them reenter the community after being away

on duty. Or if they are inactive, to help deal with, for instance, PTSD. The wise old ones knew the sense in making sure they didn’t allow returning folks to carry those war energies further into the “relations” or “family structures.

We’ve covered a few ideas on the nature of “relations” and “family.” It seems that given how much connection and contact we all desire, whether introverted or extroverted or a combination of each, “relations” are almost always a part of that.

I am going to leave you with a question to consider, or more accurately, an exercise.

Sit down with a pen and paper and write a list of your favorite relative(s). Write a short expla‑ nation next to their name as to why they are your favorite and what you would like to receive from them this year and what you would like to gift to them.

This focus gives you purpose in defining the relationships which make you the most satisfied and happy, and I can’t think of a better goal for the remaining seasons in 2020 than to find satisfaction and joy among those who you love and like in life.

Lupine

The Wild Lupines are just beginning to bloom here in the subalpine meadows and foothills of Colorado. Their monochromatic shades from light blues to lavenders and purples remind me of an artist’s pallet. Coming across a meadow filled with them on an early morning hike is a sight to behold.

Since my childhood, I have been madly in love with wildflowers.

In the first days of Spring, my mother would often take us for walks in the Michigan woods behind our home in search of “Spring Warnings.” These were signals to us that the gray days of Winter were receding, and the abundance of a new season was upon us.

Hepatica, dressed in laven‑ ders, pinks, and or purples, were often the first to be spotted. Their soft fuzzy stems and yellow stamens have a fairy-like qual‑ ity to them. They all seemed so sweet and fragile-looking, yet so

brave to be the first peaking up through the ground after a cold, harsh winter.

Another of my favorites is the Bloodroot. We had large patches of this now endangered wildflower growing in the forest near us. As a child, I was fasci‑ nated with their name and often secretly picked one to see if it’s sap really did look like blood.

Yes, it did!

Another early Spring wildflower is the Jack-in-the-pulpit. They are very proficient at camou‑ flage and difficult to spot among the emerging green shoots

of other plants. It was a joy to discover one and open it’s nodding flap to look for “Jack” hidden inside.

Trillium was one of my Mother’s favorites, and we would some‑ times come across an entire forest floor flooded with those perfect white three-petal blos‑ soms. If you were especially lucky, you might find a solid red or yellow one among the grouping.

Wildflowers are native-born, indigenous plants that are a part of a delicate interrelationship of species. They provide shelter

There are over 40 Wildflowers Rescue groups in the United States made up of volunteers dedicated to preserving and promoting stewardship of these species. Their purpose is twofold, to save wildflower species from extinction and to educate the public.

Rescuing wildflowers usually starts with someone calling them to alert that a known area of wildflower habitat is destine to be lost due to construction and development. Volunteers, with permission from the landowners, arrive with shovels and pots in hand, to dig up, repot and move the wildflowers from harm’s way. They are then replanted in a safer location, or sold by the rescue groups to raise funds for their cause.

I am grateful for these groups as a last resort, yet often wonder why we are not more mindful builders in the first place. It should be illegal to disturb these dwindling native habitat areas; they should be protected by environmental laws. Only when we start to value the beauty of our surrounding spaces will we begin to keep them safe.
