CATHEDRAL QUARTER NORTH
FRIDAY 18 SEPTEMBER 2015 | OVER 200 FREE EVENTS
Welcome Well it was touch and go for a while… but we’re back. It’s been an interesting 12 months, starting with the entire project in jeopardy due to proposed cuts to the NI Events Fund. But we are ending the year with our biggest and most ambitious event yet. It’s safe to say that we owe this turn around to thousands of you speaking up in support of our event, and for this we can’t thank you all enough. With you all at our backs, and with our partners in the arts sector at our side, we will continue to shine a light on the potential of our public space, our arts organisations and most importantly our people, to create a safe, shared and inspiring event. By way of a thank you for all your support, this year we’re going to go a little longer. In addition to our CNX programme, we’re starting the main event at 1pm and although the pace will be easier throughout the afternoon there are loads of brilliant events on from
Culture Night is presented by the Cathedral Quarter Trust.
lunchtime. We think it’s worth booking a half day off so get your leave requests in now. In particular we’ve worked with our new headline sponsor Belfast Harbour to animate City Quay and Barrow Square with some of the best CNB performers throughout the afternoon along the river’s edge. So thanks to you Culture Night is saved. For now at least. But no-one should be under any illusions about where we’re heading if cuts to the arts continue. For this reason we need you all to continue to speak up. There are all sorts of advice and resources for doing this at the #ArtsMatterNI website. Please get involved and help us turn the tide. Culture Night represents what investment in the arts can do - value for money, tourism, community relations, youth training and support for business. But most importantly we believe Culture Night gives us all a sense of belonging we belong in and to our city, and to the people we inhabit it with. The arts bring us together, gives us something to celebrate, makes us feel special, makes us happy. That is not a luxury. It’s a necessity worth protecting. artsmatterni.co.uk
All Culture Night events are free! Most events will take place between 1 – 10pm. Culture Night is a family friendly event and excessive drunken behaviour will not be tolerated. Please note that Culture Night is not a ‘bring your own’ event and usual street drinking legislation applies. There are a range of activities people of all ages can enjoy. However all events aimed specifically at children will stop promptly at 9pm and please note, it’s illegal to have children on licensed premises after 8pm. All children must be supervised and accompanied by an adult. Please note that all events are subject to change. Due to the size and nature of Culture Night Belfast, times and venues may change with events occasionally being cancelled or added to the programme after print. Be sure to check online for the most up to date information.

GENERAL INFORMATION

general Information Culture Night Hubs: Information, First Aid, Lost Property and Lost People Culture Night will have three hubs for the Cathedral Quarter which will be located outside St Anne’s Cathedral, Rosemary Street and Cotton Court. The hubs will be the main points of contact for information, first aid, lost property and lost people. If you are attending an event outside the Cathedral Quarter and require assistance, contact a member of the venue’s staff. Transport and Parking If at all possible, our advice is to leave your car at home. Make smart moves with Translink to Culture Night Belfast. Visit translink.co.uk, call 028 90 66 66 30 Twitter @Translink_NI #smartmovers Metro dayLink card (£3 all day travel after 9.30am) - Metro Smartlink (from £1.25 per journey (City Zone) - NI Railways third-off day return tickets (after 9.30am) Another great way to get to Culture Night is by bike and a free and manned bike park is available at St Anne’s Cathedral Car Park, off Academy Street. Car parking around the site is limited as all of the Cathedral Quarter including Donegall Street, North Street, Union Street, Kent
Street, Academy Street, Exchange Street, Hill Street, Waring Street, Skipper Street, Talbot Street and Royal Avenue will be closed to all traffic and there will be no on-street parking in these areas. However there are ample car parking spaces available in the city centre, please see the website for more details. Disabled Access Before 6pm there is free disabled parking in St Anne’s Cathedral car park, accessible via Academy Street. Access to this facility will not be available after 6pm due to on street activity but please note that St Anne’s Square Car Park has a large number of pre-bookable disabled car park spaces. Information for disabled people and visitors who are not familiar with the venues is available through directory.adf.ie. While we endeavour to ensure full accessibility on Culture Night, the pop up nature of much of the activity will mean that some events may not be fully accessible. If you would like a large print of this programme please contact hello@culturenightbelfast.com or call 028 9031 4011.
Food and Drink To complement the excellent restaurants and cafes in the Cathedral Quarter, there will be a range of local food traders in Writers Square and Cathedral Gardens to cater for hungry culture seekers.
