Hearing with Heart: Restoring Sound, Changing Lives
Over the 20 plus years that Dr. Alison Vega of Complete Hearing & Balance has worked in the audiology industry, she discovers a new reason every day that reminds her why she does what she does.
“It is the moment when a patient either tells me with words or by the look on their face that I have changed their life. I have given them a tool to help enjoy their life again,” said Dr. Vega, owner of the clinic and boardcertified doctor of audiology. “This is why I keep showing up. This is why I love what I do.”
One such moment happened recently. A patient, her husband, and grown daughter came to see Dr. Vega for help. After listening to the woman’s hopes for her life, Dr. Vega tried a loaner set of hearing aids on the patient.
“[I] watched as tears started to stream down her face, then her husband’s, then her daughter’s, and then mine,” said Dr. Vega. “Within moments, the challenge of just talking to each other was fixed. She had no idea what she was missing or how hard it had really been for all of them.”
