What's Inside?? Undergraduate Shout-Outs Midwinter Meeting Supporting Undegrads Academically An Ode to Advisors Regional Conference Registration Are your Undergrads Ready for TORCH???
The 2022-2024 Northeastern Region Board of Directors are pleased to invite you to register for the 2023 Virtual Mid-Winter Meeting on Saturday, January 28. The meeting will be held 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Registration is open until Wednesday, December 28, 2022. During the meeting, you will hear from Northeastern Region partners and, as in the past, we will provide officer and undergraduate-specific training as well as full Philo and Rhoer tracks. January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month. We will support Sigma Gamma Rho’s essential program Project CRADLE Care by providing care packages for families located in the North Carolina Triangle Alliance Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU).
Undergrad Chapter Shout Out Shout out to Epsilon Zeta Chapter at Virginia Commonwealth University! The chapter has been intentional about emphasizing Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service the past Fall. The chapter implemented Operation Big Book Bag at the start. of Fall 22, hosted a PoodleHour for relaxation and fun, and had one of their newest members make the Deans List for Fall. Way to be Notable, ladies!

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to learn from you when I was seeking so much knowledge when I was asking many questions you patiently listened and answered accordingly never showing signs of frustration Thank you for taking the time to show me the necessary skills today that will lead me with confidence into tomorrow for believing in me and having enough faith to share your work your dreams and your vision Thank you for accepting me as I am with all my eagerness and my sheer joy over the little things… you never tried to squelch that spirit in me Instead, you have encouraged that spirit and for that, I do thank you I realized the knowledge I need for work can be learned anywhere, taught by most anyone but the life skills I needed that go along with it… well, that would have to be taught by a very unique individual with a very special gift for giving a gift of patience and understanding that someone is you, my Mentor and now, my friend

Academic Woes: Supporting your Undergrads Academically Congratulations to your undergrads on finishing another semester! Maybe it was their best, maybe it was business as usual and maybe it was their worst. No matter the outcome, they should feel valuable, loved and supported. If it was a bad semester, encourage them to take a deep breath, forgive themselves, and help them get back on track! Identify the cause of performance this semester. Ask: Are you depressed or dealing with other mental health challenges? Were the classes more challenging than you are used to? Are you in a major that you dislike or aren’t suited for? Did you spend more time in your extracurriculars than you did focusing on school? Or was it one of those semesters that just doesn’t have an explanation? No matter the cause there are remedies for any situation. Assist your undergrads in seeking someone to help create a plan for next semester. Remember shame thrives in isolation and the more they feel ashamed, embarrassed or disappointed in themselves, the harder it is to seek support. There are people out there that want to help, for example: other chapter members, advisors, school academic counselors, older siblings, UCC and Undergraduate Committee members. Anyone undergrads may feel that has experience in their situation as an undergrad and that can support them without judgement is a benefit! Encourage the undergrad to work with that person to plan a semester where they know they can be successful academically. At many universities, if students are on academic probation for two semesters a row, they are subject to dismissal. They can try to: Reduce the amount of credits they are taking Take a winter or summer intersession course Reduce the amount of non-academic obligations for the semester Plan study hours for the week and go on DND Execute! Help the undergrad soror take the success plan, find an accountability partner, work with tutors/mentors/and university resources to set themselves up to win. They are still allowed to have fun and participate in activities on campus but always remember the reason they are at university is to graduate! Remind them: From one Soror who has had a bad semester (or 2) to another. Take care of yourselves! Rest, relax, enjoy the rest of your break and come back better than ever. We believe in you!
Regional Conference Registration is Still Open!!!
Are you registered?! The 81st Northeastern Regional Conference will be our first inperson conference or meeting in the region since the pandemic. The 2022-2024 Northeastern Region Board of Directors is excited to welcome everyone to Raleigh, North Carolina March 30-April 2, 2023. Registration is still open and we want to see you and your undergraduates there! More details will be forthcoming on how to prepare, what to pack, and what to expect from conference. See you in the City of Oaks!!!

Are your Undergrads Ready for TORCH??? With TORCH season being upon on, we want to ensure all undergraduate chapters are ready to successfully invite, educate, and induct quality members into our sisterhood. Here are a few TORCH checkpoints to have the smoothest possible process. Is a copy of the TORCH manual and most current TORCH practices available? Has that copy been reviewed by all facilitators? Do all facilitators know how to navigate the TORCH dashboard? Do all facilitators have access? Have TORCH essentials (candidate pins, candles, catering for the tea, etc.) been ordered? Have necessary spaces or virtual rooms, based on the type of calendar, been arranged and reserved? Has the chapter assigned specific responsibilities so that members can prepare in advance? Has proper attire for each component of TORCH been communicated? Are the training and educational materials up to date? Are the facilitators aware of the agenda for each module? Have expectations been communicated to the chapter by the Advisor and undergraduate Anti-Basileus?
