The Importance of Campus Partners

Last issue, you were challenged to introduce yourself to or reconnect with the Greek Life professional on the campus of the chapter you advise. Do YOU know who the campus partner is at your undergraduate chapter's institution??? More importantly, do THEY know YOU??? This individual plays a vital role in the success of the chapter you advise and can be a beneficial partner to you as an advisor. Make sure you have provided the contact information for the campus partner for your respective undergraduate chapter(s) prior to the end of the grace period!

Keeping it All Together-File Storage & Share How many times have you found yourself trying to find that one form for End of Year reports? Are you a new advisor that cannot seem to get the documents you need from the previous advisor? These are all too common issues that chapters experience in the transition of offices and officers. The common factor is how information is being stored and transferred (or not) when new officers come in place. Does your chapter use personal emails or an officer-specific email for Sigma business? Having a dedicated email for officers allows for all communication, documents, and file share to be easily provided to the next officer. There is no need to dig through personal accounts or chase anyone down to get the information you need. Consider having an email address specifically for your role as an advisor. This is also beneficial for campus partners to have a consistent point of contact, even when advisors change.

This is also a great tip to provide to the undergraduate chapters that you advise! Encourage them to create chapter-specific officer accounts using Microsoft Teams or Google Suite. All documents and correspondence can be housed in the same place for easier transitions between officers.

National Suicide Prevention Month “We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.” — Michelle Obama Today I need:

Mental Health Check-In Suggestions: Take a Break Take a Break from the TV/News a Break from Caregiving, Mommy, Family, Sorority or Relationship/Marriage Duties Celebrate Yourself Change of Scenery to Cry Day Off from Work/ Grad School Disconnect from Emails Disconnect from Social Media/ Your Phone to Eat/Drink Water Give Yourself Grace Forgive Yourself Fresh Air Live in Your Truth Me Time to Not Be Everything to Everybody Look at Yourself via your Camera Phone/a Mirror, & Tell Yourself I Love You, or Repeat I am Statements Reach Out for Help/Schedule a Counseling Appt a Relaxing Bath/Home Spa Day to Rest Reset to Scream a Self-Care Day

I Am My Sister's Keeper As an advisor, you must first build a rapport with the undergraduates you advise to understand better who each soror is. Taking the time to get to know the undergraduates intentionally begins to create a safe and affirming space. Creating this space looks like always taking the time during meetings, event setups/debriefs, and email/text communication to check-in. You want to normalize that mental health is health and that mental health is essential. It also looks like creating a space where a soror feels comfortable reaching out to you when that soror is not ok. You will not always be able to handle every mental health concern, which is ok! Reach out for the appropriate assistance with mental health concern(s) you do not feel comfortable addressing.

It's Ok Not To Be Ok!
