A truly creative artist, Marina Leon invites us to to be seduced by her delightful artworks.

Her first solo exhibition consists of 40 paintings that have been created in the past years. The motivating power for the artist has been the inspiration evoked by two themes with longstanding tradition in art history: flowers and women.

Marina Leon chooses to showcase beloved and classic themes through a fresh gaze which reveals a polite boldness. Her motion derives from her natural love for art. Painting from a very young age and having acquired top technical skills in fashion design during her university years, her artworks are a mosaic of influences, symbolisms and proposals. Felicity, hope and positivity are key emotions either triggering the beginning or leading to the outcome of her creative path.

Coco Chanel had said that “a girl should be two things: classy and fabulous”. In the artist’s paintings an aristocratic air emerges not only from the lines that shape the female figures, but also from a rich color palette, which empowers her artwork with a fabulous abundance. WIth a doric use of impasto technique, the viewer is given the pleasure of a discreet three dimensional experience. In some paintings the third dimension is even stronger as she creates handmade flowers and places them harmonically on the artworks as their natural continuation on the canvas. Flowers are pictures that bear a historical, allegorical and metaphysical significance and a plethora of cultural references. Above all they show love and passion and they often symbolize life cycles and different seasons.

In this exhibition Marina Leon celebrates the passage to spring and welcomes summer, inviting the artworld to embrace her with the same warmth and love that she gives to the world of art herself.

Δεν υπάρχει τίποτε πιο δύσκολο για έναν πραγματικά δημιουργικό ζωγράφο από το να ζωγραφίσει ένα τριαντάφυλλο, γιατί πρέπει πρώτα να ξεχάσει όλα τα τριαντάφυλλα που έχουν ποτέ ζωγραφιστεί Henri Matisse, 1869-1954

Μια πραγματικά δημιουργική ζωγράφος, η Μarina Leon, μας προσκαλεί να συνομιλήσουμε με τα υπέροχα έργα της. Η πρώτη έκθεση της αποτελείται από 40 έργα τέχνης που δημιουργήθηκαν τα τελευταία χρόνια. Κινητήριος δύναμη για την ζωγράφο είναι η έμπνευση που φέρνουν στην επιφάνεια δύο θέματα με βαθιά παράδοση στην ιστορία της τέχνης: τα άνθη και οι γυναίκες. Η εικαστικός επιλέγει να παρουσιάσει θέματα αγαπημένα και διαχρονικά μέσα από μια φρέσκια ματιά που υποδηλώνει μια ευγενική και ακαταμάχητη τόλμη. Η κίνησή της πηγάζει από την έμφυτη αγάπη της για την τέχνη. Ζωγραφίζοντας από πολύ μικρή ηλικία και έχοντας κορυφαία τεχνική κατάρτιση στο σχέδιο μόδας, τα έργα της αποτελούν ένα μωσαϊκό επιρροών, συμβολισμών και προτάσεων. Ευδαιμονία, ελπίδα και αισιοδοξία είναι κεντρικά συναισθήματα που αποτελούν άλλοτε την αφετηρία και άλλοτε την κατάληξη της δημιουργικής διαδρομής της. Η Coco Chanel είχε πει ότι μια γυναίκα οφείλει να είναι δυο πράγματα: αριστοκρατική και υπέροχη. Στα έργα της Leon, ο αριστοκρατικός αέρας αναδύεται, τόσο μέσα από τις γραμμές που σχηματίζουν οι πρωταγωνίστριες των έργων της, όσο και μέσα από την πλούσια χρωματική παλέτα που εμπλουτίζει με μια υπέροχη αφθονία την εικονογραφία της, γεμίζοντας με λουλούδια και μια πανδαισία μοτίβων και γραμμών το μουσαμά. Η τεχνική του impasto χρησιμοποιείται δωρικά, δωρίζοντας στον θεατή μια διακριτικά τρισδιάστατη εμπειρία. Σε κάποια από τα έργα η τρίτη διάσταση είναι ακόμη πιο δυναμική καθώς η εικαστικός δημιουργεί χειροποίητα άνθη και τα τοποθετεί με αρμονία ως συνέχεια του έργου της πάνω στο μουσαμά. Τα λουλούδια αποτελούν, εκτός των άλλων, εικόνες γεμάτες ιστορική, αλληγορική και μεταφυσική σημασία, καθώς και πληθώρα πολιτιστικών αναφορών. Πάνω απ’ όλα όμως υποδηλώνουν αγάπη και πάθος. Επίσης, συχνά συμβολίζουν τους κύκλους της ζωής και των εποχών. Στην παρούσα έκθεση η Μarina Leon γιορτάζει το πέρασμα της άνοιξης και υποδέχεται το καλοκαίρι, καλώντας τον χώρο της τέχνης να την προϋπαντήσει με την ίδια αγάπη που του δίνει απλόχερα και η ίδια.

Marina Leon was born and raised in the states of New York. She has developed a passion both for fashion and fine arts from a very early age. Following her heart and pursuing her passion, she found herself at the prestigious F.I.T. New York completing her studies in Fashion Design.

A few years later her steps led her to Greece, where she excelled as the head fashion designer for some of the most well known Greek fashion brands.

For a long period she dedicated herself to motherhood, yet made some time to explore another side of her talented nature, studying next to top and internationally acclaimed artists. In her first steps as an artist she was greatly influenced by the magical world of children’s painting.

Always graciously balancing between fashion and art, she came to the conclusion that a creator is not obliged to choose. So, in 2019 she began preparing a collection of paintings, which was destined to evolve into her personal statement on the female nature.

Her paintings invite the beholder to explore the magical aura, the raw sensuality, the hidden romance, the force and rigorousness that lies within each and every woman. Characterized by bold colors and a strong floral presence, her paintings celebrate the pure essence of the female soul reaching into its darkest depths and revealing its power.

As the artists states herself: «Art is so much more than a mere expression of feelings and thoughts; it is the ultimate way to rediscover and redefine the world around you, transforming everyday themes into something magical, mystical and iconic. This is what dreams are made of!»

As part of her commitment to lifelong learning and constantly evolving in life and art, Marina Leon currently continues her studies.

Her paintings belong to important collections in Greece and abroad.

Moreover, they are displayed in prestigious Art Galleries internationally.

Her artworks are the centerpieces of the world-renowned brand Carpo window display in Dubai Mall, gaining the admiration of art lovers.

Η Marina Leon γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στην πόλη της Νέας Υόρκης. Από μικρή ηλικία ανέπτυξε ιδιαίτερο πάθος τόσο για τη μόδα όσο και για τις καλές τέχνες. Ακολουθώντας την καρδιά της και κυνηγώντας τη μεγάλη της αγάπη, τελείωσε τις σπουδές της στο σχέδιο μόδας στο έγκριτο F.I.T. New York. Λίγα χρόνια αργότερα τα βήματα της την οδήγησαν στην Ελλάδα, όπου διέπρεψε ως επικεφαλής σχεδιάστρια για μερικές από τις πιο γνωστές ελληνικές εταιρείες μόδας. Για ένα μεγάλο διάστημα αφιερώθηκε στη μητρότητα και άρχισε να εξερευνά μια άλλη πλευρά της ταλαντούχας φύσης της, σπουδάζοντας δίπλα σε κορυφαίους και διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένους καλλιτέχνες. Ιδιαίτερη αξία είχε στο ξεκίνημα της ο μαγικός κόσμος της παιδικής ζωγραφικής. Εξισορροπώντας πάντα με ευγένεια και σεβασμό μεταξύ μόδας και τέχνης, κατέληξε στο συμπέρασμα ότι ένας δημιουργός δεν είναι υποχρεωμένος να επιλέξει ανάμεσα στα δύο. Έτσι, το 2019 αφοσιώθηκε στην ζωγραφική και άρχισε να δημιουργεί την πρώτη της συλλογή από έργα, η οποία έμελλε να εξελιχθεί στην προσωπική της δήλωση για τη γυναικεία φύση. Τα έργα της προσκαλούν τον θεατή να εξερευνήσει την μαγική αύρα, τον ακατέργαστο αισθησιασμό, τον κρυμμένο ρομαντισμό καθώς και τη δύναμη και την αυστηρότητα που κρύβεται μέσα σε κάθε γυναίκα. Με έντονα χρώματα και πληθωρική την παρουσία λουλουδιών, γιορτάζουν την αγνή αλήθεια της γυναικείας ψυχής, φτάνοντας στα πιο σκοτεινά της βάθη και αποκαλύπτοντας τη δύναμή της. Όπως δηλώνει η ίδια η ζωγράφος: «Η τέχνη είναι κάτι πολύ περισσότερο από μια απλή έκφραση συναισθημάτων και σκέψεων, είναι ο απόλυτος τρόπος για να ανακαλύψουμε από την αρχή και να επαναπροσδιορίσουμε τον κόσμο γύρω μας, να μετουσιώσουμε καθημερινές σκηνές σε μαγικές, μυστηριακές, μοναδικές και εικονικές, όπως είναι φτιαγμένα άλλωστε τα όνειρα. Γιατί η τέχνη είναι το συστατικό των ονείρων!» Υποστηρίζοντας έμπρακτα τη δια βίου μάθηση και τη διαρκή εξέλιξη στη ζωή και την τέχνη, η Marina Leon συνεχίζει μέχρι και σήμερα τις σπουδές της. Πίνακες της ανήκουν σε μεγάλες συλλογές στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό. Εκτός των άλλων, έργα της εκτίθενται σε σημαντικές αίθουσες τέχνης. Δημιουργίες της αποτελούν τον κεντρικό πυρήνα της βιτρίνας του διεθνώς καταξιωμένου brand Carpo στο Dubai Mall, όπου κεντρίζουν εξαιρετικό ενδιαφέρον και θαυμασμό.
