Hi Chris and welcome to NE Magazine, for the few readers who must be living in a cave somewhere and don’t know who you are how about giving th em a quick l ow- down o n yourself?

- Hello! Can’t help but think I’m writing your interview introduction for you here, oh well… I’m a stand-up comedian from South Shields and I’m also a bit of an actor now and then… but mainly a comedian… that might not come across as well as it should in print form, but I am.

So there.

At the moment it’s hard not seeing you on the TV when we switch it on as you’re everywhere, but what has been the highlight for you so far?

- Not everywhere though am I? If you turn on QVC and I’m selling a frying pan, just assume you’ll find me floating face down in a river very soon. The highlight for me so far was probably being in Hebburn. Since starting comedy I always wanted to try my hand at being in a sitcom too so I was over the moon to do one with my mate and so close to my heart, and I got to work with Vic Reeves.

I know you had a bit of a crazy time with fans wanting pics and autographs when you were having a few drinks in a South Shields bar recently, how are you finding this, does it put you off going out?

- Not at all. Any person in that position who has been on TV or whatever and people want photos (I’m trying my best not to say celebrity here!) who pretends they hate the attention is a liar. You don’t go for a career on TV because you don’t want anyone to notice you. As long as I’m not eating or having a shit when you want a photo then it’s no problem at all… I meant, like on the toilet, not just in the middle of the dancefloor.

Have you had any weird fan requests or incidents?

- Not really. The odd person will show up to a gig with my face on a T-Shirt, or bake me a cake, or send me a dead animal in the post but other than that it’s just photos and autographs. A little kid in Hebburn when we were filming asked me to sign his micro scooter… that was a bit weird.

As well as being a bit of a regular on Celebrity Juice, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and 8 out of 10 Cats you are now starring in the North East based sitcom Hebburn, how did that come about?

- My mate and fellow comedian Jason Cook decided to write a sitcom about the town he was from, Hebburn, and he actually wrote me a little side part which he named after me. But when it came to being made the BBC asked me to read for the main character, and when I got it, Jason took the part that he’d written for me! It came about so gradually that I didn’t really realise the enormity of being lead role in a BBC2 sitcom until I saw the advert on TV. I nearly passed out.

How has the response for Hebburn been so far?

- Overwhelmingly positive.

And we just won Best Drama at the RTS North awards too. And we’ve got a second series!

You are now embarking on your biggest tour to date, how do you feel about this?

- Yeah incredible! It’s an extension of my last tour, Feeling Lucky. I did 60+ dates in 2012 but the demand for tickets was so high and people enjoyed the show so much that I’m doing another 40 odd dates this year in much bigger venues. I can’t wait to get back out on the road.

Are there any venues on the tour that you are looking forward to playing or any you’re quite nervous about?

- The Theatre Royal in Newcastle. I absolutely can’t wait. I used to watch panto there when I was a kid. I’m

Chris Eubank Snr

When it comes to boxing legends one name that truly belongs in that list is Chris Eubank Snr, the former WBO middleweight and super-middleweight champion of the world. He was top of his game during the 80’s and 90’s which was without a doubt the peak time for British boxing. Not only was he known for his skills in the ring but he was just as famous for his eccentric personality out of it too, something that hasn’t changed to this day, though now he is gaining a whole new fan base after his time spent in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity and more recently on Gogglebox.

Hedworth Hall in South Shields has become one of the top places in the North East for hosting sportsman’s dinners, over the years they have had everyone from footballing legends like Keegan, Shearer and Gazza to boxing legends like Nigel Benn, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, so it was only a matter of time before Eubank joined the list, which he did with his appearance there on Thursday 11th July.

Usually these events offer VIP tickets to a select number of guests which usually means a photo with the celebrity, an

autograph and a seat at the front, but this is where Hedworth Hall have really excelled giving their VIP customers all of that and more when they were treated to an intimate private audience with Chris Eubank Snr. Chris gathered them all together in a semi-circle and said that this was their chance to ask him absolutely anything, bearing in mind that he’d be answering questions later, usually about his life in boxing, so this was their chance to ask him something more intimate and personal… and they did! What a truly once

in a lifetime chance they had, by far the best VIP experience I have seen.

Though in typical North East fashion, the first question Chris was asked…”who is your favourite Geordie, Ant or Dec?” It’s Ant by the way. Chris explained that Ant was a genuine boxing fan and took a real interest in the boxing side of his life.

It wasn’t so much an intimate Q&A session, but more of an intimate chat, covering a bit of everything from current trash talking boxers to his thoughts on female fighters. He spoke to the VIP’s saying that when he was younger and went to Sunday school he learnt chivalry and humility, something that has stuck with him to this day, so for him the trash talking has no place in boxing, saying “if you have manners people like you, if you speak ill then people will forget you and when you are humble then people will remember you”.

He even asked the crowd their thoughts on the subject asking about people having

manners these days, to which one of the VIP guests said that manners where old fashioned and outdated, to which Chris replied “wow” and looked visibly shocked by that response.

One guest commented saying he was surprised at how tall Chris actually was in person, to which he replied in typical Eubank fashion saying “short people who are humble are really tall, but tall people with no manners are really small” One thing that people did not

know on the night is that Chris had contacted Hedworth Hall asking if he could visit a local hospital or school the following morning as he had some time free and he wanted to do something worthwhile with it. So on the Friday morning the pupils of Bamburgh School in South Shields found themselves with a celebrity walking in as they were about to celebrate their sporting achievements with a special presentation of medals and trophies at their assembly.

Having Chris Eubank Snr present the kids with their awards and

then chat and pose for pictures with them was a real treat for the kids, something they will remember.

Bamburgh School provides education to pupils whose special needs cover a broad spectrum of medical, physical, social, emotional and moderate learning difficulties. So to be able to reward both the schools teachers and their pupils with this kind of visit really was a touch of class from both Chris Eubank Snr and Hedworth Hall owner Tony Singh, along with Lisa Nightingale who helped to arrange it all.

Hi David and welcome back to NE, for those that may not have seen your previous feature can you give them a quick introduction?

I own the Record Store and hangout “Beyond Vinyl in Newcastle city centre. We have been open for 14 months now and gathering a loyal customer base.

You run Beyond Vinyl in Newcastle, but it has seen quite a few changes since you were last in NE, tell us a bit more about those?

Since the last time we spoke we have had a few changes to the layout and we have another Record Store Day under our belt which massively overwhelmed me. The support we were shown this year was great to see and the new and old faces that came along was more than I could have asked for.

to the shop have been implemented with a social/hangout feel we are looking for and to accommodate live music on the ground floor.

You have always championed live music since you opened and have had several instore music gigs including the Circa Waves Album

Launch, but now you have Beyond Sessions coming to the store, so what exactly is the Beyond Sessions?

We have and live music and supporting local talent was one of the most important parts of opening our shop.

There are plenty of artists and music fans that want to support and see local artists play and we just need to get the word out and get people along to support our sessions.

seeing them go on to play this year’s Glastonbury was amazing The Beyond Sessions has been work in progress for over a year now and was originally an afternoon session on a Saturday and was a small free event. We wanted to do the Sessions and the artists justice and make it more of a show case and put a structure in place that gives new artists a chance to play live at a more intimate venue with a friendly crowd and also in the future welcome them back in a head line shot at a future sessions.

We thought long and hard and hard about charging for tickets for the Beyond Sessions and decided if we are going to do this properly and support local music then a small charge is the best way to do this. This will enable us to continue to put on live music at Beyond Vinyl.

We will still be putting on free events but charging entry for some gigs we can continue to support

and help grow the local music scene and pay musicians for playing at one of our gigs.

You have 2 events lined up so far but will this become a regular thing and if so what can we expect in the future?

Do you have any acts that you would like to see doing a Beyond Session?

There is so much talent in the north east and I’m excited to see what we discover on this journey.

Mainly we want to give young artists/bands an opportunity and a place to play and see them progress to a headliner at a future Beyond Session.

We have the fantastic and talented Beth Macari headlining our first Sessions and I’m really excited about that.

I would like to see Sam Fender come along as a secret headliner for one of our sessions, he has come a long way in the last 12 months and to have him come and

show his support to our sessions would be fantastic. The dream would be Paddy McAloon and how great would it be to have Brain Johnson turn up when he is visiting family and friends!

You have played host to some great events and singers/bands so far but which one has been your favourite so far and why?

This one is really hard. From a local talent point of view a couple have stood out. Elizabeth Liddle played at one of our Saturday Sessions and is very talented and I don’t think she knows how good she is and could be.

The one that surprised me was The Wandering Hearts. I wasn’t expecting them to be as good as they were. The place was packed (which we weren’t expecting) and they blew me and the crowd away!

Also Deco and Tim Chadwick were amazing when they play the Beyond Stage at Hit The North this year.

What else have you got in the pipeline for Beyond?

We have big plans for the future.

Things don’t happen as quickly as we would like then too but we will keep working hard to raise funds

so we can get things moving along as quick as we can.

The main plans for the next 3 to 6 months is to get the coffee shop/ hangout fully open, book in more live music and to start making use of the basement.

Long term we have a couple of things in the pipe line.

We are still working on expanding our range of Records, CD’s and Merchandise (Including our Beyond Range).

One of our longer term plans is to set up a small studio in the basement and put on music workshops

and beginners introduction to sessions.

Once we have the funds to get the studio up and running we will rent the studio out to bands and artists but we will also offer an amount of free time to young artists that can’t afford to pay for studio time to record a demo.

This will also be the same for the workshops and beginners introduction to sessions. There will be a fee to attend these session but a number of places will be offered for free to young persons who can’t afford to pay.

A big part of what we are wanting to achieve is to create a community and bring people together that love music, whether its listening or playing and we what it to be accessible to all not just those that can afford it.

When you say the name Kiefer Sutherland the first thing most people say is 24, the show where he played CTU Agent Jack Bauer, or maybe even The Lost Boys where he played the Vampire David, but you won’t get many who say Musician. It may even come as more of a surprise when you say he has just released his second album, titled ‘Reckless And Me’ which came out in April and went

straight to the #9 spot in the UK Album Charts.

With the album come’s a tour and luckily for us the North East was not missed out, in fact what was even better was the fact that Kiefer Sutherland decided to be the Sunday Night headline act at this year’s Summer Tyne Americana Festival at Sage Gateshead…and fans were not disappointed.

Dressed in black with a white Jacket and cowboy hat, Kiefer looked the part and he definitely sounded the part once he started his set. With his gravelly voice and heartfelt songs he took the appreciative crowd through some of the tracks off his new album, telling them all about the songs and what inspired them…even confessing to them how he surprised himself

with just how many songs he has written about whisky, to which he raised a glass to the audience only to find them doing the same in return.

The gig was a mix of songs and chit chat, with the crowd loving all of it. With some knowing the words and singing away to them and others hearing them for the first time, the one thing in common was the fact that they ALL loved the full show and all of the music. The chatting was quite open and honest, just like his song writing, it really did feel like he was talking with friends. He even thanked the Greggs staff who brought him a nice surprise package for him and the band, which was a great touch after Kiefer and said in the past how much he loved Greggs.

If you haven’t heard the album yet you really should give it a try, it takes you through a great mix of Blues, Rock and plenty of Country, with all of the songs showing you another side to the Hollywood Icon, from the very moving and honest songs like ‘Truth in your Eyes’ and ‘Something you Love’ through to the more up tempo ‘This is How It’s Done’, Reckless And Me is a great 2nd Album and shows you that his first album, Down In A Hole, really wasn’t a fluke and that Sutherland really does belong on a stage entertaining the crowd as a legitimate musician.

Kelly Jones - Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day Tour Plus The Wind and The Wave Wednesday 11 September, 7pm Following a hugely acclaimed sold-out run of solo shows; Stereophonics frontman and creative force, Kelly Jones has announced further dates to his Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day Tour for September 2019.

Heralded as one of the finest voices of his generation, Kelly Jones will give audiences a rare opportunity to see unique and intimate performances across an evening of storytelling and song craft.

Fans will hear a wide variety of music on the night, taken from the Stereophonics catalogue of ten albums and their 22+ years’ worth of music including some of the band’s rarely performed songs.

Songs from Kelly’s 2007 solo album Only The Names Have Been Changed will also feature, as well as some brand new songs, all delivered alongside Kelly’s storytelling and tales from along the way.

Kelly said, “I’ll be performing some old songs, lots of songs I don’t normally do, some new songs, songs that have inspired me and stories that have inspired me. The tour is about overcoming things and moving on from obstacles and building strength from that. I am looking forward to performing with some new musicians and creating some beautiful moments.”

Collateral are coming, via Bon Jovi that is!

Take note of the name and remember it well as COLLATERAL are tearing all asunder, and in impressive style, so much so that, in embarking on a UK Tour this September, the quartet will have already supported Bucket & Co, and Jon Bon Jovi.

Having launched themselves onto the New Wave of Classic Rock scene in early 2018 with the debut single, Midnight Queen the band have seen, done, and accomplished much in the near eighteen months, their battle-worn manager Vivanne Leonard of Roulette Media guiding a very steady ship.

Supporting Bucket & Co in late June – early July, led by the former,

long-term guitarist of Bad Company, Dave ‘Bucket’ Colwell, Collateral, who consist themselves of vocalist Angelo Tristan and fellow bandmates, Jack Bentley-Smith (bass), Ben Atkinson (drums), Todd Winger (guitar).

Esteemed frontman, Angelo Tristan, said of their ongoing progression that: “We’ve just kept our heads down and the momentum going because, if you take the foot off the gas, things become a lot harder.

“A lot of the success we have enjoyed is very much down to our loyal, and increasing fanbase as well; they helped us get to places like Camden Rocks, Ramblin’ Man, and onto the Bon Jovi Cruise, among other things.”

Somehow the Collateral lads have both found time to release

their new single, ‘Lullaby’ having reached out to the masses in earlyMay, and what is expected to be a stunning debut album which is very much imminent – but they’re still enjoying themselves, more if their recent trip to Ibiza was anything to go by (if you follow the band or management label on socials you’ll have seen the fun

and games).

What about ‘that’ Bon Jovi gig in late August though; the American rock band hailing from New Jersey and having too many classic hits to even name a few; they are lifelong idols of the Collateral frontman, so, is this a dream come true for the long-haired lover from - Kent.

“I had posters on my wall of them when I was like, eight-years-old,” insists Angelo.

“He was, and still is, a rock god to me and, having recently seen them perform, I know because of that, where we want to be and what we’re aiming for.

“After that, we go on tour with Piston, a tour we just decided to book together and do it ourselves.

“We’re both releasing albums around the same time and there’s plenty of places on that tour that

we’ve never played before so we can’t wait to get out there, and rock.”

That co-tour, with Piston, sees a twelve-date UK tour arriving in Newcastle, at Trillians, on September 19, where they’ll be supported by local rockers, Edenthorn.

Consisting of brothers Kyle (vocals) and Mark (drums) Tague, and brother-sister pairing of Faiba (vocals/bass) and Dylan (guitar) Gardner their second album, EXIST, was released in March 2018 and they’re currently working towards a third album the early stages of 2020.

In supporting Collateral it’s a stage in which both bands will benefit moving forward, Edenthorn creating a storm of their own and rightly so.

The Kent rockers though, in preparing for their eagerly anticipated debut release, are seeing comparisons aplenty to eighties style, glam rock, high octane, long haired,

It’s something which will come across in the album, Angelo saying of it: “We’ve got the eightiesinfluenced, big ballad in ‘Get Back To You’ which has your big guitars and even bigger vocals on it.

Who’d have thought the release of Midnight Queen would start such a journey, a journey all involved are loving being a part of, at home and abroad.

“The track ‘In It For Love’ is kind of like an ’82 Bon Jovi and, in doing this, shows that we aren’t sticking to the rules, mixing things up, and putting out different genres across the spectrum.

Lucinda Grange takes on her first, underground experience

The atmosphere, the risks, the safety equipment needed, the dangers you have to watch out for, are all very different.

The first of a two part feature with the NE Online Artist of the Year In the first of a two-parter, northeast urban photographer, and NE Online Magazine’s Artist of the Year, Lucinda Grange, presently residing among the delights of New York, takes us on her underground experiences.

In the next issue she’ll scale the heights but for now, Grange plumbs the depths, talking about that first time she took her camera underground – here’s what she told our journo, Peter Mann….

“Every time you encounter a new environment, it is again a first time experience: crawling for the first time under frozen icicles in a mine under Sweden, that hang like blades from the ceiling.

“In a coal mine in North East America, watching for the first time the oxygen levels decrease on your gas detector as the air temperature outside changes which pulls the bad air from deep within the mine towards you.

“Jumping for the first time over

the third rail in a subway tunnel.

“Checking for the first time the weather forecast for miles and miles around as you, as you enter a

small storm drain in a small town in the North East of England.

“All these experiences are different in so many ways.”

If that hasn’t got you hooked, then nothing will. She’s been, seen and done it all, and then some, as we’ve seen in earlier issues this year.

She’ll also go to her own, extreme lengths, to get those iconic images the majority can only dream of getting, or even attempting to for that matter.

But going underground, as I guess would be the same everywhere, but underground, the similarities and contrasts are very differing, as are the extreme feelings of nakedness to the outside world, to the life in which we have become rather accustomed to.

“Yet there are also similarities; and the things that are the same in all those environments are what I enjoy and what keeps pulling me back underground.

“It’s not necessarily what I gain by being underground, but what I

loose.

until you introduce them.

“As well as loosing signal and contact to the outside world, underground there is often a constant temperature and a constant light level (or a constant lack of light).

“You start with a complete blank canvas; there is nothing at all until you turn on a single light.

“This leads to a total loss of sense of time - time of day, time of month, time of year.

“This makes you more aware of light position and the effects it has as you move this light round your location even the smallest amount.

“This is great for photography.

“Then you introduce another, and another.

“Ironically, much of my studio skills were established in the underbelly of cities, rather than in the studios on top of and in them.

“I’ve taken up to seven light sources and almost an hour to light a single shot, and enjoyed every moment of it.”

What of the first time Lucinda took all of those experiences, and

one of the graveyards, and so Guillaumot moved the remains to the quarry tunnels, and so they became the Catacombs of Paris; a network of tunnels under virtually all of Paris, and home to the remains of some of its long gone residence.”

But what of that experience, what was it like going underground and into the Catacombs of Paris, virtually cutting yourselves off from the world above and, in essence, walking through and experiencing history.

“From the hole we climbed down, we got to a small dry tunnel. witnessed them for the first time, being underground, and cut off from the outside world for the first time.

It wasn’t here in our beloved north-east, it wasn’t even on British soil, or under as the case may be, that Lucinda first went underground for a high-scale expedition.

“My first major underground expedition was in the catacombs under Paris.

“I was part of a small group, we’d travelled to Paris in hopes of spending three long days underground.

“We carried all the food, sleeping gear and photography equipment that we would need on our back for the entirety of the trip.

“We climbed down from a bridge onto some abandoned tracks, walked along them into a dark train tunnel, and searched in the darkness until we found a small hole the size of a single person.

“We crawled down into the hole, and as a team passed bags through after people.

“Paris is built on top of an old stone mine first mined by the Romans and, as most cities do, Paris expanded.

“Much of it is built from the very stone that once lay below its streets.

“As Paris continued to grow, the chambers were backfilled with rubble and the tunnels not given much thought, until 1774 when there was the first major collapse.

“The underground swallowed houses and people.

“This happened on more than one occasion, and so an architect named Charles Axel Guillaumot was commissioned to improve the tunnels by King Louis XVI; he dug extra tunnels to connect many of the smaller networks to make his job easier.

“Later the King wanted to empty

“We turned right, and crawled along it, it slowly got teller, until we came to our first junction.

“Turning left here, we were now able to stand.

“Some tunnels were so large you could stand comfortably in them.

“Others were so small that you couldn’t even crawl through them - we had to lay on our stomachs and use our toes and hands to push ourselves forward.

“We dragged our big backpacks behind us, tied to one leg by a length or rope.

“Since parts of the catacombs were flooded, all of this was done in thigh high waders.

“Some stretches had a low ceiling

and high water levels.

“We’d all be precariously balanced on our tip toes to prevent our waders from taking on water, while also bent over double, our noses nearly in the water and our heads and packs scraping the rocky surface of the ceiling.

“Over these three days we walked miles in total darkness, only our head-torches to help us see.

“We slept in crazy places.

“Waking not knowing where we are and not knowing how long we had slept or what time it was, this lead to us sleeping very little, but somehow feeling incredibly energized.

The next issue will see Lucinda talk to Peter about scaling the heights, and she’s scaled quite a few of those producing some rather stunning, iconic images but for now, from the Catacombs, Lucinda, rightly so, is afforded the final words.

“Paris is the city of love, and it’s there that I really began to love being underground.”

What people don’t realise is that over the last few years a company called UBBAD have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring BKB out of the shadows and into the mainstream.

It will be a fan favourite fight when it happens seeing as Ferry’s fans think there is no competition left for him to face, whilst Terril’s fans think Ferry is ducking Terril because he knows that he will lose his title and has been avoiding the hard fights to keep it. With this kind of talk there can only be one outcome and that is for the fight to take place, which will be great news for neutral BKB fans.

They already have some top level fighters on their books, but in recent months they really have pulled out all of the stops with signings like North East fighter Michael Terrill, who is a Champion Kickboxer and who this year won his first ever Bare Knuckle

Another of the big name signing is former UFC fighter Melvin Guillard who is a well-known striker and a massive household name to be added to the UBBAD roster.

He will be taking on the winner of the upcoming Jimmy Sweeney and Dann Henry-Welsh fight. Sweeney

Three is the magic number, as proven with the evolution of NE now that three, well-known, North East faces have teamed up.

Read on to follow the evolution and meet the ‘Three Musketeers’ involved.

July 2019 saw NE turning 7-yearsold, not bad for a small online magazine that was set up to try and help people around the North East. In those seven years we have put out 40 issues thus far, this will

be issue 41 that you are reading and these issues have included everything from celebrity interviews to tips on living a healthy life as well as loads more in-between.

Set up by South Shields born editor and chief, Wayne Rambo Groves, NE has always stuck to the main aim of being free in every sense of the word. Free to read and free to be featured in it, not a single penny is made from

advertising or anything, you could say it is a labour of love, well, it has to be to still be going after all this time when the only reward is helping people, but as Wayne says: “If one person reads an issue and buys something from one of the people featured then it was worth the time and effort of putting that issue out there, it has all been worthwhile.”

Wayne set up NE back in 2012 with nothing but an idea and a

plan, the problem was he had no design experience and is not a writer, but you can’t let details like that stop you from bringing a great idea to life.

Enlisting the help of a friend who was looking to gain design experience, Joseph Archer got on board and did the design work whilst Wayne gathered all of the content, a mix of interviews, press releases, submissions and adverts. Launching with a preview issue in July 2012 featuring a stunning aerial photo of the Angel of the North as the front cover, an image taken by local photographer and friend, Ian Berry, NE was born.

NE started off as a monthly magazine but it takes a lot of work to put out a single issue, sadly, after Issue 7, Joseph wasn’t able to continue due to lack of time available to him, so with a quick crash course in design NE became a one-man show, though this did mean it had to become bi-monthly magazine instead of monthly.

Wayne is a well-known face around the North East due to working as a pub and club DJ, a fight show MC and for all of his charity work, which has seen him nominated as ‘Fundraiser of the Year’ and even saw him cut the ribbon to open the Asda Boldon Superstore. Asda were looking for a local hero, for which Wayne was nominated by several people because of all of his charity work he

does and he was chosen to cut the ribbon, though sadly someone in the crowd mistook him for the ‘fat one from G4’ as they were heard to say, much to Wayne’s amusement.

So, NE really is an extension of his charity work and his aim to help as many people as he can in any way that he can.

Fast forward a few years and a chance phone call between Wayne and local author and freelance Media & PR Specialist, Peter

Mann, threw up a few interesting ideas, though it would take another year before Peter would finally submit his first articles that appeared in Issue 27.

What started off as a mutually beneficial arrangement soon turned into a friendship, though that is not surprising seeing as both Wayne and Peter share a love of 80’s films and cartoons and are both very similar in the fact they both help people as much as they can.

Exercise Psychology, and with three books already under his belt; the latest being ‘Cruising to Glory: The Jon-Lewis Dickinson Story,’ which was released back in December, Peter has some sixteen years of experience to his name, and with a projected three more books (at least) in the pipeline and a growing list of clients it really is a busy time for him.

Wayne now had regular content supplied in every issue and Peter now had a platform to help promote his clients, it really was winwin for them both and as Wayne says: “Peter has really helped both me and NE, helping me make sure issues are full when life has got in the way.

“He enables the issue to go out with plenty of content, even if it does mean having him taking the mick out of me for it, though I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

He said: “In a way I’ve been doing media, in one form or another, for some sixteen years now and to be honest, it came about my accident.

“I just wanted to do something to stave off the depression after my brother passed away in late 2002; I took to writing again late the following year and it’s all gone from there.

“Journalism has been what I’m all about, fully, for the past seven years though after I finished a Sport Psychology degree at Teesside University in 2012 and I stepped things up a lot more.

“I do have people like Steve Wraith and Newcastle Legends to

thank for some of the past decade to be honest as I wouldn’t have got as far without that support network but, for the past twelve months, I’ve been flying solo and it’s been a learning curve, yes, but fun at the same time.

“Since last summer I’ve kind of eased myself into ‘being alone’ but have found myself working the press for some talented individuals, be it locally or globally, with people like Jade Byrne, Leo Sayer, Woman to Woman, Vonda Shepard and Sharon Corr UK tours whilst representing Megan Dhalai and a soon-to-be-announced second musician.

“I’ve covered football for most of the past sixteen years, starting off in non-league and I’m currently the Press Officer for both the Northern Football Alliance, and for Bishop Auckland Football Club.

“The latter I’d like to call ‘some unfinished business’ having stepped back from the Northern League in what, 2014-15(ish); I began covering boxing in early 2012 and music journalism the following summer – yeah, I guess I’ve been busy.

“I’ve been with NE Online the past

few years and Wayne has been a constant source of support and guidance, and as with both he, and Nick, the three of us all strive towards that same goal, of helping to get others noticed whilst doing something that we love doing ourselves.”

Who is Nick you may ask? Well that would be Nick Danks, the

man behind Madhouse Media and the third and final member of the ‘NE Three Musketeers.’

Every group has to have that one, good looking member, and in this case that would be Nick, though it’s not hard considering he is the youngest member and also a former model, but don’t let those boyish good looks fool you as be-

hind those looks lies a very clever, business-minded guy who does share Wayne and Peter’s passion to help but also knows how to run a good, strong business, proof of this is the fact that Nick has been shortlisted as a FINALIST for the ‘Natwest Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2019!’

Again, as with Peter, Wayne and Nick had spoken on a few occasions, but it wasn’t until this year that the two of them finally got their heads together.

Wayne went to Nick for some website advice as he was looking to swap providers to try and save money on hosting NE, to which Nick offered to become a sponsor of NE and actually host it for free as well as help to give NE a bit of a freshen up.

During this conversation it became clear that they both had

similar aims and goals and could help each other out with various things, so it really was a no-brainer that two should become three, and Nick has now joined the NE family and now the three musketeers are complete (it begs the question on who though, is to be Athos, Porthos, and Aramis?)

July also sees Madhouse Media’s own personal celebration as it is their 1st birthday, a great milestone and achievement for Nick and his wife-to-be, Lisa, his partner in life and of course business.

It has been a lot of hard work in a field they both know and understand well, but to see all of their hard work paying off is fantastic and well deserved.

“From my perspective it’s about where we all started, at different points in our lives, different ages.

“I think I kind of started late although we’re still moderately young in business terms and we’ve

recently finished the first year with Madhouse Media.

“It’s been a long, long eighteen months to get established having been with a marketing company for five years prior.

“To be fair though, I knew quite a lot before I got there but I learnt my craft with some good, influential, valuable, North East people – Madhouse was created on the back of wanting to do something for the smaller businesses on the market.

“The gap has always existed but I

wanted to be able to give people what they want as far as marketing, design, websites, print, whilst making sure we came across affordable, and, with having the right team behind us as well.

“I’ve always been a worker and it’s all about learning.

“We all have areas of expertise where we can help each other out, both inside and outside of the magazine, and we all complement each other” Now that the three of them have joined forces it means NE can be-

come bigger and better than what it already is as all three of them can bring something new to the table, and complement each other perfectly.

Though they all know it will still take a lot of hard work to make NE even more successful.

As well as being there for each other, ‘The Three Musketeers’ have their own sources of help and inspiration for putting in the hard work needed.

Wayne said: “It’s always been my two girls, Lainie and Sian, who have pushed me to succeed, “I want to make them proud as well as show them that you can and should help people whenever you can,” whilst Peter adds: “I continue to work with one of my closest confidantes and my will to succeed, Vicky Hamilton, whilst also being able to turn to my mentor and friend, Amanda McQueen, who ‘rescued’ me when at Gateshead College over a decade ago.”

Nick meanwhile, ever the conversationalist, said: “The person who drives me the most is probably my business partner at Madhouse, Lisa, who’s also about to become my wife.

“She drives me because it’s our business, not because she’s about to be my wife or we live in the same house, or have a daughter together; it’s because she makes me a better person in life, she makes me a better person in business, and that’s why we’ve come along the way we have done.”

So, there you have it, the future of NE Online; what happens next is anyone’s guess, but we’ll have fun working it all out that’s for sure!!

Coinciding with International Women’s Day on March 8 the region’s Lucinda Grange (formerly of Hartlepool, now New York City) saw some of her finest work, from the project ‘Backwards and in High Heels,’ included in the Donna Karan – Urban Zen exhibition in Greenwich Village, Manhattan.

Beginning on March 8 and running through until April 7, Ms. Grange’s most prized project, entitled as ‘Dancing with the Stars’ included in the exhibition ran by the ArtLead Her platform, a vision founded by Mashinda Tirfere.

Supporting and promoting only female artists, ArtLead Her aims to help level the field in the art world, where the gender bias is very strong and, being part of what is Women’s History Month will help envelope that consensus.

Speaking of her prized project, ‘Backwards and in High Heels,’ Lucinda said: “It is a quote in reference to Ginger Rodgers.

“Fred Astaire, her male dance partner, would get more fame, fortune and attention than she did, yet she did everything he did, backwards and in high heels.

“This project started with two selfportraits on the Chrysler Building (Midtown Manhattan, New York) and gradually grew as I photographed women I know and admire in places you wouldn’t expect

to see anyone - let alone a woman, looking strong and extravagant in a dress!

“The aim of this project was to question stereotypes women are often subjected to, and instead highlight the strength and power

of these women.”

To be included within the exhibition, for Lucinda, is something she is excited about and follows immediately after her solo exhibition, ‘City Cross-Section’ which was held at the Lyle O. Reitzel Contemporary Art Gallery and finished late-February.

In the new exhibition at the Urban Zen Lucinda exhibited an image, ‘King Woman,’ which depicts Ingrid Silva, lead dancer for the Dance Theatre of Harlem.

“In this picture, Ingrid is on point on the ladder of a water tower on a NYC rooftop.

“Ingrid grew up in Brazil, a very humble beginning, and now she’s the dance company’s top dancer, traveling the world, following her

passion.

“She is now performing to crowds of thousands despite the many obstacles that have been in her way.

“Not only is she Brazilian, she is also black and petite, very far from those who one might expect to see as the lead dancer.

“Her sheer willpower, dedication and determination got her all the way from living in Brazil, to being one of the top dancers in this city.

“My aim was to capture the feeling of this inspiring person and her story in this one single image.”

Women’s History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated during March in the U.S. the U.K. and Australia, coinciding with International Women’s Day on March 8.

North-East urban pop, power couple, He Knows She Knows, are heading to Japan this September as part of the Kansai Music Conference in Osaka.

Silvar & Sharna Laidlow took the first step on the road to fame and stardom when appearing on the X Factor auditions in 2016, the exact point in which Silvar dropped to one knee and proposed, on national television.

Although it’s been a bumpy ride since then the pair have toured the UK, on several occasions, and headlined Newcastle’s O2 Academy 2 with their ‘Slay Bell Bash’ last December.

Now though, it’s off to Japan where they’ll also take in a four-date tour, and a trip to YouTube HQ to record a studio performance.

“Our music is regularly played in Japan on the KMC Vibes Radio Show on Blackan Radio with Duane Levi (Shalestone Music) which is picked up by those on the conference,” began Silvar.

“We thought, because of that, we’d try a different avenue ourselves and so reached out to them and that’s how we ended up being invited over to the Kansai Music Conference.”

Coinciding with International Women’s Day on March 8 the region’s Lucinda Grange (formerly of Hartlepool, now New York City) saw some of her finest work, from the project ‘Backwards and in High Heels,’ included in the Donna Karan – Urban Zen exhibition in Greenwich Village, Manhattan.

Beginning on March 8 and running through until April 7, Ms. Grange’s most prized project, entitled as ‘Dancing with the Stars’ included in the exhibition ran by the ArtLead Her platform, a vision founded by Mashinda Tirfere.

Supporting and promoting only female artists, ArtLead Her aims to help level the field in the art world, where the gender bias is very strong and, being part of what is Women’s History Month will help envelope that consensus.

Speaking of her prized project, ‘Backwards and in High Heels,’ Lucinda said: “It is a quote in reference to Ginger Rodgers.

“Fred Astaire, her male dance partner, would get more fame, fortune and attention than she did, yet she did everything he did, backwards and in high heels.

“This project started with two selfportraits on the Chrysler Building (Midtown Manhattan, New York) and gradually grew as I photographed women I know and admire in places you wouldn’t expect

to see anyone - let alone a woman, looking strong and extravagant in a dress!

“The aim of this project was to question stereotypes women are often subjected to, and instead highlight the strength and power

of these women.”

To be included within the exhibition, for Lucinda, is something she is excited about and follows immediately after her solo exhibition, ‘City Cross-Section’ which was held at the Lyle O. Reitzel Contemporary Art Gallery and finished late-February.

In the new exhibition at the Urban Zen Lucinda exhibited an image, ‘King Woman,’ which depicts Ingrid Silva, lead dancer for the Dance Theatre of Harlem.

“In this picture, Ingrid is on point on the ladder of a water tower on a NYC rooftop.

“Ingrid grew up in Brazil, a very humble beginning, and now she’s the dance company’s top dancer, traveling the world, following her

passion.

“She is now performing to crowds of thousands despite the many obstacles that have been in her way.

“Not only is she Brazilian, she is also black and petite, very far from those who one might expect to see as the lead dancer.

“Her sheer willpower, dedication and determination got her all the way from living in Brazil, to being one of the top dancers in this city.

“My aim was to capture the feeling of this inspiring person and her story in this one single image.”

Women’s History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated during March in the U.S. the U.K. and Australia, coinciding with International Women’s Day on March 8.

New division sees dawning of a new era in the Northern Alliance The Bay Plastics Northern Alliance takes on new scope this upcoming season with the addition of a fourth, Development Division and with it the Neville Cowey Cup competition making four divisions and an impressive sixty-four clubs taking part.

Although won by AFC Killingworth last time out it was the Bay Plastics Premier Division runners-up, and long-time divisional leaders, Newcastle University, who took up promotion to the Ebac Northern League Second Division, both sides though welcoming second string outfits into the new set-up with the Uni adding an ‘A’ side to

the Second Division, and Blue Star with a Reserves in the new Development Division.

The main three divisions in the Alliance will be made up of sixteen sides apiece for the upcoming season and, following a restructure three sides were promoted with First Division champions being joined at the top table by Cullercoats and Winlaton Vulcans whilst top scorer Malcolm Morien (AFC Killingworth) will aim to continue his form of recent seasons and better last season’s league tally of 45 goals.

No sides have been relegates into the Alliance but FC United of Newcastle have been from the Premier back to the Reeves

Independent First Division which sees a rather strong field for the upcoming campaign. Joining them will be the promoted sides from the Second Division in champions Rothbury alongside Whitley Bay Sporting Club and Cramlington United; Forest Hall’s Joe Thompson will aim to better his top scorer’s result of 28 goals next time around.

The Team Valley Carpets Second Division meanwhile takes on a completely new look following the relegation of Newcastle East End from the First Division, and the additions of AFC Newbiggin, Haltwhistle Jubilee, Newcastle Blue Star Reserves and Newcastle University A making up an interesting mix; Ellington’s Adam Bains was the division’s

top scorer with 29 goals last time out.

Following the demise of the Tyneside Amateur League, the Alliance adds a Development Division to their set-up next season with several Alliance sides welcoming second strings to the fold such as Gosforth Bohemians Reserves, Newcastle Chemfica Reserves, Newcastle East End Reserves, Ponteland United Reserves, Whitley Bay Sporting Club A and Wideopen A. The new division also brings with it the Neville Cowey Cup (named after the long-serving secretary of the now defunct Tyneside Amateur League) which is added to the list of cup competition the league already enters sides into including the Reeves Independent George Dobbins League Cup (holders Newcastle University), Team Valley Carpets Challenge Cup (AFC Killingworth), Northumberland FA Les Todd Benevolent Bowl (Newcastle University) and Northumberland FA Minor Cup (Blyth Town), among numerous other competitions.

The League Cup (ties scheduled for September 14) will be an early test for several Development Division outfits with North Sunderland being drawn away to Premier Division side Gateshead Rutherford, Wideopen A, Wooler and AFC Newbiggin are at home to Alnwick Town, Cullercoats and Winlaton Vulcans respectively, just to put some scale on

Both Cramlington sides are on the road in the opening round, Town travel to Newcastle East End and United are at Seaton Delaval whilst last season’s winners, Newcastle University, have been promoted to the Northern League there will be a presence from the Students, a University A side host Ponteland Reserves.

The other cup competitions are less hectic, County Cup draws withstanding, and the week after the League Cup will see the divisional cups play out their opening round with Challenge Cup holders AFC Killingworth away to Whitley Bay Reserves with the same competition featuring last season’s Combination Cup victors, Cullercoats, following promotion, they host Blyth Town whilst Amateur Cup winners Blyth FC, who narrowly missed out on promotion from the Second Division last term, begin

their defence away to Alliance newcomers Haltwhistle Jubilee.

In the opening round of the recently added Neville Cowey Cup several Alliance sides have second-string outfits participating with Whitley Bay Sporting Club A home to Ashington Reserves, and away trips for Ponteland United Reserves, Gosforth Bohemians Reserves and Newcastle Chemfica Reserves, the trio are at Morpeth, Heaton Stannington A and Lowick respectively.

Alnwick Town afforded Yorkshire away day in FA Vase The FA Vase, until last season at least, has been predominantly dominated by north-east sides, eight winners and eleven

finalists since 2009, is competed for by sides across the country between steps five and eleven in the football league pyramid.

Last season, Bay Plastics Northern Alliance Premier Division side, a Northern League outfit the season before, were drawn at home to Charnock Richard, taking a deserved first half lead through Ross Moore.

Backs to the wall but never out of it, Town were broken-hearted at the death when, having been pegged back, fell to a 93rd minute winner from the visitors – this season they go again with a late August trip to Northern Counties Eastern League outfit, Yorkshire Amateurs.

It’s a challenge the Northumberland side, who play at St. James Park in black &

white stripes, are relishing and, although there’s the hint of a ghost over them following last year’s reversal against Charnock, they’re ready to go again.

“We were so close to pulling off a shock result last season,” began Town manager, Paul Yeadon.

“When we were approached

about entering this season’s competition, we were never going to say no and it’s great for the lads as you don’t really get these kind of experiences at this level, and everyone likes an away day.”

A mid-table finish in the Alliance Premier Division last time out, Yeadon’s boys are more than ready to go again and will start the new campaign with a home game against Whitley Bay Reserves on August 10; September meanwhile will see at least two cup matches, the Reeves Independent George Dobbins League Cup they travel to the newly-formed Development Division side, Wideopen A (September 14) and in the Team Valley Carpets Challenge Cup away to Gateshead Rutherford.

The former of those Alliance cup matches, in the League Cup, could well be altered though as a win for Alnwick away to Yorkshire Amateurs will see the Alliance side make the short trip to Ryton & Crawcrook Albion in the next round.

“It’ll certainly be an experience with two potential away days,” continued Paul.

“The lads are still talking about last season but we’ll go there (to Yorkshire) and see what we can do.

“It’s always nice to be able to go somewhere different, somewhere other than the

usual Alliance or even Northern League matches.

“That and we’ve got a really good group of hungry players who want to both better themselves, and give a really good account when on the playing field.”

Yeadon’s young side gave as good account of themselves as possible without getting what would have been a deserved win in last season’s Vase so expect similar this time around and, who knows, a Vase cup run could

well be on the cards.

Two Blues ready for new Northern League campaign Bishop Auckland manager, Ian Chandler, has earmarked his squad for the upcoming 2019-20 Ebac Northern League campaign, blending in a mix of youth and experience.

New arrivals to the squad see that of Leon Carling, Denver Morris and James Fairley bring in the experience, the former of the trio shoring up the defence whilst the arrivals of Jamie Tumilty and Jay McLean bring a youthfulness up front.

Tumilty and McLean, alongside Chris Winn, and the attacking midfielders, will provide continued support for captain, and last seasons’ top scorer, Andrew Johnson.

something of a high profile nature, notably the triumvirate of Kieran Galbraith, Lewis Gibbons and Arran Wearmouth, alongside several others but the four-time FA Vase winner has set his goals for the new season.

“Last year was almost the perfect season following on from a very poor 2017/18 campaign,” began Ian. “We had built a new squad of young, hungry lads, with a sprin-

kling of older members, and that seemed to have worked very well.

“The new season will see us building another new squad with several players having left, all of whom contributed to last season so will be a miss; that said we welcome on board some rather familiar faces for myself and Brian (Rowe).

“In come Denver Morris, James Fairley, Leon Carling and Nathan Lawrence, also coming up from our under 23s will be Jordan Lee, and Aidan Hart is back from longterm injury.

“Expectations are now extremely high (after finishing third last season), but, in simple terms, I always try and do better than the previous year, that said the same as last season will mean promotion (the top three sides gain automatic promotion at the end of the upcoming campaign) and another successful season.

Billed as being ‘A fundraiser for Richard,’ the two sides met to raise funds towards neuro-rehabilitation of former Bishops, current Willington Chairman, Richard Tremewan, who suffered a left haemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in the brain), affecting one side of his body, earlier this year.

Whilst the returning Liversedge added: “I’d already spoken with Chan (Bishops manager Ian Chandler) and the management late last season about my signing back here.

“Obviously we had to see how both the injury, and subsequent rehab progressed though, but it’s been going to plan and the

physiotherapist is happy with my progression.

“We feel that I’ll be ready for the start of the new campaign and will hopefully be back for the last couple of friendlies and take things from there.

“With having a smaller squad last season we knew that injuries would affect us, which proved to be the case.

“This season though a top three finish again would be great, as would a few cup runs in what we hope will be a fantastic season.”

Further additions have also been made behind-the-scenes with the arrival late last season of the club’s Head of Media, Peter Mann, and the summer appointment of Dean Maynard, who’ll provide match day video coverage.

Bishop Auckland opened the new season on August 3, making the long trip to The Frenchfield Stadium, home of Cumbrian outfit, Penrith.
