DONE is a digital magazine that promises to be exciting and invites you to consider it as part of a “voyage of discovery.” It is intentionally different, meant to be a brief moment shared in time, whether your life is busy or not so busy. Most of it centers on taking a slice of a day, a life experience, and savoring it for comfort and mental wellness.

DONE is a comfortable space where you can relax and think deep thoughts, or not think at all. DONE is a magazine that is meant for passing time, a place where boredom is not allowed and overwork is never tolerated.

I meet you with a self‑taught background in fiction writing. I also meet you with experience in social services, on the implementation side of it. I meet you as a parent, hopeful to remain a parent, knowing that life can change at any time. I meet you with knowledge of certain topics and subjects that I would like to share.

I acknowledge you because I hear you daily, and from that came the evolution and conception of this magazine. I would not, on my own, be so presumptuous. Hearing so much for so many years, I realized that even if I cannot fully articulate everything I hear, I do have a responsibility to acknowledge the voices.

There is no formula here. I am like a stranger who will stop and ask for directions and leave you hopeful.

Morning routine Open your eyes, think, am I welcome in the universe? Usually, you are but your brain might lie to you. You greet yourself. You roll over, brush your teeth, and rush for coffee? Tea, Treadmill, Prayer, Shower, Phone calls, Check your devices overnight, you are still sitting on your chair from the previous night finishing your homework or meeting a deadline or just thinking.

Do you want to plan the day? Is it dark outside or is it already daytime? Do you have kids? Do you remember if you have kids? Self-indulgence can cause a momentary lapse of memory of important details. Is the car in the driveway?

Are you married, is your marriage okay this morning? Are you friendly with a friend? Is friendship okay this morning? Are you still on good terms with your friend? Should you call and check? Meditate today or tomorrow. How is your health?

Breakfast? Is the car charged? Is there gas in the car to drive the kids to school, or drive yourself to work or to shop for the empty fridge?

Do you have a home or are you crashing on someone’s couch or worse? Think. Where are you in your life? Too many thoughts for the morning?

Neighbors can be considered friends because they live not far from us and have known us before we were a family, before we owned cars, and before we weighed as much as we do now.

Although they may not vacation with us, they have shared laughs over the years and know more about us than some of our loved ones.

Parents — or a mom — can be our friends. They get calls from us quite often, and many years of fighting and hugs have gone a long way. Her cooking, her strength, and how she was raised, are all in our memory. It is amazing how mothers try to redo their children even though they are also their husband’s children.

Spouses can be good friends if they have time to listen to whatever the minutiae of the day are.

They witness it all, disappointments, laughter, wishes, unmet dreams, and successes. The trick is not to have them own, or carry all of our baggage; they must have their own lives too.

Homes are friends as well. Rain or shine, they are there with shelter and belonging. They squeak if unkempt and sometimes throw shadows if not witnessed properly. They can be mysterious if they are well-tended and allowed to breathe. They keep secrets and keep us safe.

Gardens as friends are where time is spent under the guise of planting seeds, when in fact it is where the rubber meets the road. The sun is glaring or the rain is drizzling depending on one’s mood. The soil is waiting to be planted, and the gardener thinks about how to line up the plants

for when they grow tall. Yet what the gardener enjoys more is being alone with their thoughts.

How it will all turn out in the end.

The business of making clothes, the business of selling clothes, the business of wearing clothes, is our daily chore. Should we choose wool or cotton? Should we wear scarves or make up for an outfit? Remember when you couldn’t go anywhere without a white vest because your mom insisted on it. Nowadays it is all up to you.

Shoes, and whether we wear long skirts, flare jeans. Trousers for men or just jeans. A Pringle shirt or just a T‑shirt. Should we wear pajamas to bed or just keep the sweatpants on. Who cares? The Designer cares. The cast of the TV show The Hills cares, so don’t disappoint them.

Death, dying is like a rest. You might not know that you are tired but death knows better and has an absolute solution. Like a parent taking a dangerous toy from a child to avoid an accident, death looms eternal. No matter how death comes. It arrives right on time. In fact, if we think of it as having a celebrity lover who sends out a limo to pick us up for a discreet meeting, we would feel honored.

Our loved ones have heard much from the living and only need to feel themselves as they are dying. Otherwise, there would be no need for a limo. Of course talking, communicating at the time when the end-of-life issues show themselves is supposed to be good. But….For whom?

What is there to remember if one is faced with the reality that they will never see the sun shine

ever again? Who are loved ones compared to the sun? It must be understood that love is lived and is in our hearts and our being as we breathe in and breathe our last breath.

Last moments on earth are about wondering what the journey will really be like, not hearsay but for each individual what not living life will be like. Selfish selfish selfish love can sometimes be.

Wanting to hear what is on the dying’s mind in their last moments of bravery is an expression of superiority over the Most High.
