NORTHEAST FOUNDATION & ALUMNI ASSOCIATION? WHAT

IS THE MISSION STATEMENT

The Northeast Mississippi Community College Development Foundation, Inc., a non-profit corporation, has worked and will continue working to strengthen the college through its private fund raising efforts. The Foundation solicits and receives gifts to support students, faculty and administration for Northeast Mississippi Community College.

A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDATION TEAM

We are grateful to all those who have joined in our mission to solicit and receive gifts to support students, faculty and administration at Northeast Mississippi Community College. Sharing in our mission provides all of us with a wonderful opportunity to work together to transform both the College and our students lives.

The assistance provided through the Northeast Mississippi Community College Development Foundation lowers barriers

to a higher education and changes the lives of those students who cannot afford to attend college. It will change the life of the student who is working full-time and taking courses at night. It will change the life of the single mother who is attending Northeast in order to make life better for her family. More than this, by changing these lives, we will also change our community. Many of the individuals who receive Foundation assistance will someday serve as leaders in our community.

Education frees; but education, as we all know, is not free. In order to bridge the gap between the cost of tuition and a students ability to pay, we call on alumni, friends, and neighbors to invest in the college and the community. We also call upon our corporate and business community to partner with us to make the academic and career dreams of Northeast Mississippi Community College students become a reality.

We hope you will join us and the many others who have already made gifts in support of so many deserving students.

WHAT IS IN THIS

This report includes many impressive statistics on the Foundation’s growth, as well as analysis of how these activities have occurred. More important, the following pages illustrate the growing need for all Northeast Mississippi Community College and how donors, alums, and businesses are working with us to meet that need. While the information told here accounts for only a small portion of Northeast’s large impact in providing higher educational opportunities in Northeast Mississippi; all can take great pride in the achievements highlighted in this report.

WHAT DO WE SUPPORT?

The Northeast Mississippi Community College Development Foundation, Inc. annually engages the services of an independent accounting firm to perform an audit of the Foundation’s financial statements. As part of the audit, the firm also reviews the internal controls and various policies and procedures to ensure the Foundation staff is adhering to the most current accounting practices. The Foundation’s auditor, Sparks CPA Firm, has issued an unmodified audit opinion on the financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2024.

WHAT WHAT CAN YOU DO?

We are grateful to all those who have joined in our mission to solicit and receive gifts to support students, faculty and administration at Northeast Mississippi Community College. Sharing in our mission provides all of us with a wonderful opportunity to work together to transform both the college and our students lives.

However you choose to give, you can be assured that your generosity will help to secure the future of Northeast Mississippi Community College. Leave your legacy by empowering students, supporting education, and investing in the improvement of our community.

WHAT IS NEW?

SPONSORSHIP CHANGES

Athletics play a vital role in shaping student-athletes into leaders, uniting the campus and community, and promoting school pride. However, providing competitive programs, updated facilities, and essential resources requires ongoing support beyond traditional funding. The Athletic All-Star Sponsorship helps bridge that gap, ensuring our teams have what they need to succeed both on the field and in the classroom. By investing in Northeast athletics, you’re not only supporting studentathletes today—you’re fueling their potential for a brighter future.

Video boards are much more than just a display — they are a powerful tool for enhancing the game-day experience, showcasing studentathletes, and engaging fans, alumni, and the broader community. Video boards allow for interactive content,

including recognition of sponsors, elevating both athletic and campus events held in these facilities. As part of our commitment to providing top-tier facilities and opportunities for our students, the Development Foundation has launched a new campaign to fund this much-needed upgrade. Your support will help bring this vision to life, reflecting the pride we have in our programs and the bright future we’re building together.

As a result, the Foundation’s Athletic All-Star Sponsorship is temporarily transitioning into the Jump on Board - Video Board Campaign in order to help provide support in securing a state-of-the-art video board for Tiger Stadium, video board scoring tables for Bonner Arnold Coliseum, and a portable video recruiting photobooth system, enriching the fan experience for years to come.

WHO MADE AN IMPACT?

The NEMCC Development Foundation & Alumni Association is proud to announce the Impact Scholarship Program, a generous new initiative established to empower deserving students and celebrate the influential teachers who shape their lives.

The Impact Scholarship Program goes beyond simply providing financial aid. It fosters a culture of gratitude and appreciation by requiring students to write an essay about a teacher who significantly impacted their lives. This unique component strengthens the bond between students and educators, highlighting the importance of mentorship and guidance in the learning process.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Your donation, regardless of size, will make a real difference in the lives of deserving students and dedicated teachers. Every contribution brings us closer to fulfilling the donor’s vision of recognizing outstanding educators and empowering students to reach their full potential.

SHOULD YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE IMPACT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM?

• MAKE A LASTING IMPACT:

Your contribution will directly support students facing financial hardship, helping them achieve their educational goals and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

• HONOR OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS:

The NEMCC Impact Scholarship Program recognizes the transformative power of exceptional teachers. By supporting this program, you help us acknowledge these educators and the profound influence they have on their students’ lives.

• INVEST IN OUR COMMUNITY:

A well-educated workforce is essential for a thriving community. The Impact Scholarship Program fosters local talent and empowers individuals to contribute to the economic and social well-being of Northeast Mississippi.

CELEBRATING IMPACTFUL EDUCATORS 2024 Impact Scholarship Luncheon

The Impact Scholarship Program extends its recognition beyond the students. We take pride in honoring the exceptional teachers who make such a profound difference. The superintendent and principal of each participating teacher’s school district is personally contacted and invited to a special luncheon on the Booneville campus of Northeast Mississippi Community College. This luncheon celebrates the incredible impact these educators have on their students’ lives.

We understand that not everyone can attend the luncheon in person. That’s why the event is live streamed on NEMCCTV.com, allowing donors to witness firsthand the heartwarming stories of how these teachers have impacted their students.

The photos on the next few pages were taken at the 2024 Impact Scholarship Recognition Luncheon hosted by Northeast Mississippi Community College. Alongside each photo is a quote from the student’s essay written about the teacher who has most impacted thier life.

In my eyes, TEACHERS ARE THE SUPERHEROES and they don’t get a lot of respect for it. They are teaching the future of our generation and so on.

My mom isn’t only just a superhero in my life but many other lives. That’s what I strive to be in the future. A superhero.

This gave me a massive head start in terms of work experience and finances. Another way she impacted my life is she made me truly start to enjoy school and learning. I learned from her how school can be fun and that knowledge is a powerful tool and can help you in so many ways.

He not only taught me reading, writing, and arithmetic, he also taught me many life lessons and the importance of following Jesus every step of the way.

While I am abundantly thankful that she shaped my love for learning, I am more grateful for the lessons she taught me that were about how to conduct myself.

Because of Mrs. Holloman, my english score improved tremendously. Since I grew up lacking good grammar skills, I was never good at essays either.

She has provided a safe space for me... although I wasn’t technically a student she was scheduled to counsel, she took every situation I faced and reminded me of the promises of God.

She also saw how lonely it was for me too. She would give me daily encouragement and advice—the genuine kind that you think about all day and even dream about.

As the son of a teacher, I can better appreciate all the things that educators do outside of classroom instruction... I’ve seen the impact he’s made on students over the years.

Mr. Hisaw can be found constantly greeting and checking on us in the hallways. We know he truly cares about us. He supports us with our extracurricular activities and cheers us on in sports.

With her guidenace through the years I feel more confident, loved, and accepted... I learned the true essence of resilience, perseverance, and the power of believing in oneself.

She was also a listening ear anything we needed to get off our chest outside of practice she made it a safe environment to do so.

When she walked into the classroom she automatically knew that something was not right with me, she pulled me aside after class and asked if I needed someone to talk to or even just a hug.

She told me that failure was success in progress, and I never forgot that. I carry those words with me and remember them in everything I do.

She was always willing to listen when I needed someone to talk to... She not only motivated me but supported me where my biological mom failed to do so.

I will strive to help others when they struggle... Because after all you never truly know what somebody is going through at home or in there mind at school.

I constantly felt a stress on my shoulders during this time of my life just with everything that I had going on, and she was the one that I could go sit in her room and cry and talk about it.

Mrs. Chatham has also made a positive impact on my life by teaching and demonstrating life skills, valuable lessons, and how to work hard for what I want

She taught me that death isn’t the only thing that can take your life; you can still breathe and not be able to live. This has motivated me more than anything.

For students interested in applying for the Impact Scholarship, the application process is simple and convenient. They can access the application online at nemcc.awardspring.com. Generally, scholarship applications don’t delve into deeply personal experiences. However, the Impact Scholarship essay is an exception. Here, students have the opportunity to share powerful stories about how their teachers changed or even saved their lives.

WHO DID WE RECOGNIZE?

EMPLOYEE AWARDS

TIP/TOP AWARDS

As a way to recognize the commitment and continued dedication of NEMCC employees, the Foundation established the T.I.P./T.O.P. Awards.

The T.I.P. Award program is designed to commend non-administrative staff members of Northeast who exhibit “Tremendous Individual Performances.”

T.O.P. stands for “Teaching Outstanding Performance.” This award is given to one outstanding faculty member from each of the academic divisions (that have applicants before October 1st of each year) who show innovative teaching methods.

NEMCC’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the Development Foundation, Patrick Eaton along with the Foundation Board of Directors selected this year’s honorees.

WHEN DID WE CELEBRATE?

HOMECOMING

Northeast’s 2024 Homecoming was a celebration of tradition, excellence, and Tiger pride. The festivities kicked off with a spirited noon pep rally on Thursday, October 10, when the Homecoming Court was officially introduced to the campus community. Football players presented each maid with flowers and Head Coach Greg Davis presented a commemorative football signed by the team to the queen.

Later that afternoon, the Development Foundation hosted the NEMCC Sports and Alumni Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony honoring five alumni who made a lasting impact on Northeast athletics and the college community.

The celebration continued over at Tiger Stadium as Northeast alumni from the 1978-1982 classes gathered for a reunion and on field recogniton during the pregame activities.

During half-time of the game the 2024 Homecoming Court was presented to the crowd. President Dr. Ricky G. Ford crowned Queen Isabel Grace Williford at the fifty yard line. The moment was made even more special as Alumni Hall of Fame inductee Mike Lester presented flowers to Queen Williford.

The gathering of so many past and present Tigers on campus to celebrate and commemorate made this year’s Homecoming one to remember — a true reflection of our enduring legacy and Northeast spirit.

WHEN DID WE RECONNECT WITH ALUMNI?

Northeast Mississippi Community College Alumni from 1978-1982 gathered for a special reunion during the homecoming game. The Foundation hosted the alumni at the pavilion next to the fieldhouse providing tables, chairs, and snacks for old friends to enjoy while they relived cherished memories made on campus. Those in attendance were recognized on the field before kickoff.

WHEN DID WE HONOR?

HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

SPORTS HALL OF FAME

Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Sports Hall of Fame was conceived in the interest of recognizing coaches, athletes, and administrators who coached and/or played or were loyal supporters of Northeast athletics.

Acknowledging the fact that there have been many outstanding athletes who have contributed greatly to the sports programs at Northeast through the years, Northeast wished to begin a program of recognition whereby individuals may be recognized for their contributions to athletics at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

By-Laws for the Sports hall of Fame were drafted and approved by a committee made up of coaches, fans, and members of the Northeast Board of Trustees in 2007. The framework was established to recognize ten individuals the first year and up to five individuals each year thereafter.

During its inaugural Sports Hall of Fame class, Northeast inducted Harold T. White, W.B. “Bill” Ward, Ken Lindsey, Chuck “Doodle” Floyd, Gene Garrett, Adrian Smith, Kenneth “Cat” Robbins, David “Nub” Strickland, Earline “Woodsie” Woods and Bonner Arnold as members.

Congratulations to the newest members of the Northeast Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame.

CRAIG LAUDERDALE (MEN’SGOLF:1990,2004-2011)

Craig Lauderdale represented Northeast Mississippi Community College by himself at the 1990 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III golf tournament in Arizona. He was recognized as an NJCAA AllAmerican after finishing in 14th place overall with a four-day total of 321. His award-winning season resulted in the decision by legendary Northeast athletic director W.B. “Bill” Ward to sponsor an entire team one year later. The men’s golf program is now in its 28th season of existence. Lauderdale has been around for each of Northeast’s major milestones. He is the longest tenured head coach in program history and also served as a volunteer assistant during the 2020-21 campaign when his son, Austin, and the Tigers captured the conference crown. Lauderdale started his eight-year stretch as leader of the Tigers in 2004. He guided Northeast to back-to-back NJCAA Region 23 championships and subsequent berths to the Division III nationals from 2007-08. Lauderdale has more than 400 combined victories and six divison titles between his boys and girls high school basketball teams at Jumpertown and Saltillo. He was the 2007 NJCAA Region 23 Coach of the Year at Northeast.

BRUSE LOYD

(FOOTBALL:1980-82)

Bruse Loyd’s original arrival in the fall of 1980 after graduating from Alcorn Central High School coincided with what is still one of the most successful seasons in modern-day program history. The Tigers won nine consecutive games on the way to achieving a number one national ranking for the first time ever. Loyd’s job as an offensive lineman was to protect quarterback Mike Steenson and open up holes for All-American running back Anthony Norman. He performed his duties well as Norman set the school record for rushing touchdowns in a single season with 12. The list of firsts that Loyd and the Tigers accomplished that year also includes the inaugural north half championship, perfect division record and home state playoff contest. Northeast finished with final ratings of seventh from the J.C. Gridwire publication and 12th by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Loyd transferred to Delta State University at the conclusion of his freshman campaign. However, he eventually accepted an offer to return to Northeast from legendary head coach W.B. “Bill” Ward after taking a redshirt while with the Statesmen in 1981. The decision to rejoin the Tigers paid off for Loyd, who chose Rice (Texas) University inside the now-defunct Southwest Conference (SWC) as his final destination on the gridiron. He was a two-year starter for the Owls that earned all-newcomer honors in 1983.

WILL ROBERTSON (BASEBALL:2012-13)

Will Robertson earned all-conference honors during each of his years with the Tigers. His efforts helped Northeast capture its first Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division title in more than two decades. The Tigers also won 30-plus games for just the third time in program history and advanced to the MACJC Tournament following a play-in series with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College during Robertson’s sophomore campaign. Robertson at one point led all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II members in RBIs. He finished the season in the top 10 countrywide in both RBIs with 55 and on-base percentage at .531. Robertson completed his decorated on-field career at tradition-rich Delta State University. He was a finalist for the prestigious C Spire Ferriss Trophy and Perfect Game USA’s Josh Willingham Award, which was presented to the most valuable player (MVP) inside the NCAA’s Division II. Robertson also obtained All-American accolades from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

ANTOINE WILKERSON (MEN’SBASKETBALL:1996-98)

Antoine Wilkerson is one of only five freshmen in program history to secure All-American recognition from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Atlanta, Ga., native averaged a double-double that year with 21.9 points and 11.1 rebounds. Wilkerson turned things up another notch at the beginning of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division schedule. He scored 20 or more points in 13 of the Tigers’ final 14 regular season matchups. His efforts helped the Tigers capture the 1998 MACJC North Division championship and return to Mississippi College’s A.E. Wood Coliseum for regionals. Northeast went 39-17 overall with Wilkerson in the starting lineup for head coach Mike Lewis. Wilkerson totaled more than 1,000 points in a black-and-gold uniform. His averages across 57 appearances at Northeast are 18 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, 1.7 steals, 1.3 blocks and 29.8 minutes. Wilkerson earned a scholarship to Gardner-Webb (N.C.) University after his prosperous tenure at Northeast. He was selected to the All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) second-team following the 1998-99 campaign.

ALUMNI HALL OF FAME

Mike Lester of Booneville was recently named the 2024 inductee in Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Alumni Hall of Fame.

Lester’s exceptional contributions to the college and the surrounding community have solidified his place among Northeast’s most notable graduates.

A graduate of the Booneville High School class of 1978, Lester earned an associate of arts degree at Northeast in 1980. He was a member of the 1978-79 Tiger basketball team and Phi Theta Kappa. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Mississippi.

Since then, he has been a steadfast supporter of the college throughout his professional career. He was instrumental in the founding of the Northeast Sports Hall of Fame and has consistently donated to the Northeast Development Foundation for 22 years.

“Mike Lester is a shining example of the kind of alumnus we strive to produce

at Northeast,” said Patrick Eaton Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Executive Director of the Development Foundation and Alumni Association.

“His dedication to both the college and the community is truly inspiring. We are honored to recognize him with this prestigious award.”

In 1988 Lester established Eastside Automotive, a wholesale automotive electronics and auto parts business. He and wife Cindy have two sons, Justin and Brent. Together, they have five grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

A devout member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, Lester has served as a deacon, been active in youth ministry and jail ministry, and is a dedicated member of the Gideon International ministry.

Beyond his educational, professional and spiritual pursuits, Lester is an active Northeast alumnus and a longtime promoter of all college endeavors. His induction into the Alumni Hall of Fame is a well-deserved recognition of his significant contributions to the college and the community.

SARAH FRANCES FARRAR GREEN

Leads by example that it’s never too late to chase your dreams at Northeast!

Sarah Frances Farrar Greene began her college journey at Northeast in 1964 but left after getting married and starting a family. Decades later, at the age of 47, she returned to Northeast determined to finish what she started. Despite past academic challenges, she persevered and eventually earned her degree in Special Education from Freed-Hardeman University, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Her story is a testament to faith, resilience, and the belief that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. “It may have taken me about 30 years to get it,” she says, “but it’s mine—and no one can take it away from me.”

Northeast is incredibly proud of Mrs. Sarah and the example she’s set. Her journey inspires students of all ages, and her impact on our community is lasting and meaningful.

The Foundation had special Alumni t-shirts printed this year!

WHERE DID THE TIME GO?

50 YEAR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL REUNION

The future of the Northeast Mississippi Community College athletic department changed for the better 50 years ago.

Women’s basketball was reinstated by Northeast during the 1973-74 school year. The sport was discontinued by each of the two-year institutions across the Magnolia State some 17 years earlier.

Northeast is hosted a special reunion for that historic group of Lady Tigers on Thursday, December 5 as part of its nonconference basketball doubleheader against Itawamba Community College. The team was publicly honored between the women’s and men’s games. They each received a commemorative piece of the original maple wood gymnasium floor, which was replaced over the summer.

Women’s basketball became Northeast’s fifth intercollegiate sport at the time along with baseball, football, men’s basketball and co-ed tennis. There was also an all-female cheer squad just as there is today.

The number of sports has ballooned to 12 since then to include men’s and women’s cross country, men’s golf, softball and volleyball. Tennis was split into separate men’s and women’s programs in the 1990s.

The addition of women’s basketball also opened the door for hundreds of females to continue their athletic dreams, pursue a higher education at Northeast and become productive members of society after graduation.

Members of the 1973-74 Lady Tigers were Cynthia Barmer of Glen, Teresa Brawner of Corinth, Shirley Hall of New Albany, Janie Ham of Iuka, Cathy Hellums of Falkner, Regina Keenum of New Albany, Sherry Leggett of Glen, Sue Love of Falkner, Marina Pearson of New Albany, Marilyn Prather of Ripley, Teresa Simpson of New Albany, Becky Tate of New Albany and Norma Wilbanks of Walnut.

The late Millard Lothenore was hired by legendary athletic director Bonner Arnold as their head coach. He was inducted into the Northeast Sports Hall of Fame as part of its class of 2018.

Several individuals associated with the team will be recognized as well. They include scoreboard operator Ray Cozort, manager Jo Drewery, public address announcer and scorebook keeper Jim Lamb, chaperone Betty Lothenore plus bus driver Charlie Sorrell.

The Lady Tigers won their first six games that season, including a 5853 victory at Meridian Community College in their inaugural contest on November 6, 1973. Ham and Love went on to become All-State selections.

Former Northeast English instructor and assistant coach Dr. Anne Cross organized the reunion in coordination with the Foundation.
