THE IMPACT OF KASIE DOLLAR

The teacher that made the biggest impact on my life would be Mrs. Kasie Dollar from Walnut Attendance Center. In March 2022, I moved back to Walnut after spending a year at Shannon High School Nothing felt like it did before until Ms.Kasie started helping me out of my shell. She helped me study to get my grades back on track, she introduced me to other students who later, I became friends with and she elected me to be part of the yearbook committee. It was because of her that I became a very social person. In September of 2022 at age 15, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. While it wasn’t that much of a deal to me because I had faith in the Lord, it was a lot more stressful on my mom. She worried day and night about my health, what bills she would have to pay for and what the outcome of the surgery might lead to But Mrs Kasie stepped in to organize a T-shirt fundraiser in my honor and all profit was given to me and my mother to help with the cost of traveling to and from and for the stay at St.Jude . Now, in 2025 she is my go to when I need help. Whether I need help with my academics or whether it's helping me figure out the solution to a real world problem she's always there. I strive to be like her because I didn't always have that type of support. Sure my mom was always there but sometimes you need an outside opinion. Knowing that feeling of needing to express something that's heavy on your heart without the weight of judgement being added, it can be saddening and sometimes heartbreaking when you have no one to reach out to. I want to be that person that people want to come to for advice because they know they will be heard and that whatever may be said will remain confidential. I want to be their Mrs.Kasie, the rainbow and the end of the dark days so they'll know that everything will be fine with patience and time.

THE IMPACT OF CHRISTY HUGHES

My name is Amber Holcomb. I'm going to take you back all the way to my eighth grade year. I was in probably one of the darkest points in my life. I felt like I was lost. I had no morality about me. I had never had any interest in Jesus. I thought the only way to fit in was by being rude and doing disappointing things. I met my English teacher, Mrs. Christy Hughes. I would come into her class day after day and just cause disruption. I kept her on her heels. Somehow no matter how disrespectful I was to her she made me feel loved through it. One day I came in and she told me, "Why don't you try to be in the spelling bee?" I told her I simply just was not smart enough. She looked me dead in the eye, I will never forget it, and said "Amber you are only as smart as you want to be." She worked with me everyday. I won the spelling bee. Spelling bee studying turned into talking about Jesus. She told me that no matter how bad things get always remember someone greater than all of our problems loves me more than I can imagine. She made me feel loved, seen, and understood. She will never understand just exactly how much she impacted my life. She gave a lost and depressed little girl believe in herself. Today, I am in Phi Theta Kappa. I go to church because I want to and not because I have to. I, too, want to be a teacher. I wanted to change someone's life the way she changed mine. I want to be the reason a little girl or boy smiles.

THE IMPACT OF TESSA GRAMMAR

Throughout my years at Baldwyn High School, I have had several good teachers However, there has been one specific teacher that stood out to me significantly. My teacher for algebra I and II, Mrs. Tessa Grammar, is one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. I have told that to her directly and would tell her many more times. She pushed me to be the best I could during class, and she positively affected my mood each day. We have similar personalities and learning styles, so I understood her class very well and enjoyed it greatly. One year, each Wednesday, we would be required to complete an assignment called “Midweek Motivation” Even though sometimes I did not want to do the assignment, after doing it I realized it really boosted my spirits. Mrs. Grammar might not know it, but having her in my life as a teacher was very special and important to me. If I would have had a different teacher in the ninth grade, I do not think my freshman experience would be anywhere as good as it was. I would not switch Mrs. Grammar with anyone else. Because of Mrs. Grammar, I learned to stay kind to my classmates even when they might have frustrated me. She was very good at keeping a cool head when dealing with uncooperative students, and I admire that in a teacher. Mrs. Grammar did not like taking anything less than your best; as a result, I learned to strive to be more than average academically. Thankfully, I have stuck with that mindset and that habit has also carried on to other areas of my life. I will continue to use it throughout the rest of my academic career. Thank you, Mrs. Grammar, for always pushing me to be my best, staying kind to others, and driving me to be better than average.

THE IMPACT OF STEPHANE PUCKETT

Throughout my time at Tishomingo County High School, I’ve had about every stereotype of teacher you can imagine. There were the coaches who barely taught, the tough-love teachers, and even the wonderful people whose classes still felt impossibly hard. But then one teacher stepped into my life and changed everything Mrs Stephanie Puckett made an impact on me that reaches far beyond the classroom.In the beginning, I had no idea what was coming. It was a typical new school year, and I dreaded having ACT Prep with people I didn’t consider close friends. I slept through class most days and did the bare minimumtopass Atthetime,Iwasstrugglingtomanagemyhomelife Iworked a part-time job that consumed my weekends, leaving me with no social life and a growing sense of depression Looking back, that was the hardest period mentally that I’ve ever experienced.When the next semester rolled around, I had Mrs Puckett again This time, I was excited because the class was filled with my friends. Unfortunately, math has never been one of my strengths. I had her for geometry, and if I’m being honest, I was drowning I thought I was going to fail But Mrs. Puckett never gave up on me. She stayed by my side, helping me step by step, giving me every opportunity to succeed She went out of her way to explain each problem, and she made sure I truly understood the material. She was patient, encouraging, and made learning feel less like a test and more like a chance to growI remember one day in particular We had taken a geometry test, and I failed it miserably. I was crushed because I really believed I had done well Instead of making me feel worse, Mrs Puckett reminded me that my gradesdidn’tdefineme,butmyeffortdid.Itwasthefirsttimeateachertreated a bad grade as something other than a failure She didn’t belittle me or make me feel incapable. She pushed me, encouraged me, and genuinely believed in me I went from being a student who constantly said, “I can’t,” to a student who said, “I’ll try.” The impact of a great teacher doesn’t end with the final grade or the last assignment Because of Mrs Puckett, I learned to believe in myself I learned patience. I discovered my own potential. The lessons she taught me didn’t come only from a textbook, they were life lessons I will carry with me forever. She inspired me so deeply that I decided to major in Secondary Education I want to make an impact on a student the way she made one on me Not every student gets a teacher who changes their entire perspective on life, butI’mgratefulthatIdid Herinfluencehelpedrebuildmyconfidenceandmade me believe I can reach my goals. THE IMPACT OF ASHLEY RUSSELL

My entire life I have set goals that I truly want to achieve -- academic goals, sports goals, and general life goals -- and I’m driven by my desire to meet these goals Some of my baseball goals are to be a career .350 hitter, win a state championship with my team, and play college baseball. Both my parents played sports at the collegiate level, which influenced my dream to play college baseball. In addition to my parents, Coach Ashley Russell has also inspired me to pursue this dream, and he helped me build the confidence to make this dream a reality Coach Ashley Russell is a significant member of my community. He and his parents went to West Union Attendance Center (WU), where I go. He grew up in this community, and his parents still live here. They are both big supporters of West Union sports. We attend the same church every Sunday at Macedonia Baptist Church Coach Russell also went to Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) to play baseball, and he has been the baseball coach at WU for close to 20 years. He has been my coach for the last 5 years. Coach Russell isn’t just a coach; he’s a mentor to everyone, and not just for sports, but for life as a whole. He has always been there for me, no matter the circumstances. For example, when I injured my arm last spring, I couldn’t practice, but Coach Russell found other ways for me to be involved as part of the team Coach Russell has not only pushed me to be my greatest self on the baseball field, but he has pushed me to be a better person. I look up to him and turn to him for guidance and wisdom because Coach Russell is a man of his word. No matter what he is doing, if one of his students or players needs help, he will drop everything to be sure they get that help He puts others before himself, no matter what, and I know I can always count on Coach Russell to be there for me. I’m grateful to say that I committed to play baseball at NEMCC recently; Coach Russel was the first person I called. He has spent many hours, late nights, and early mornings helping me achieve my goal of playing at the collegiate level Coach Russell has always had high expectations for me while simultaneously supporting me to meet those expectations I have learned countless skills from Coach Russell over the years that made it possible for me to achieve my life-long goal of playing college baseball. His guidance, belief in me, and tough love have helped me build the confidence in myself to do the things in life that are important to me -- baseball and beyond

THE IMPACT OF APRIL VOYLES

A teacher that highly impacted my life and decision to go into the medical field would be my health science teacher, Mrs. April Voyles. She saw potential in me that not many people could see. Growing up in a broken family full of problems I turned to my education to help me change my life and create a new and better future for me. I remember one day during class we all went around the room talking about why we wanted to be in the medical field and when it came to my turn, I just broke down. I felt so alone growing up but being in Mrs. Aprils health science class I felt like I had a family. I finally had people I could turn to, to help me navigate my new care taker position of taking care of my grandmother. Mrs. April introduced me to people in the lab to show me exactly what I would be doing in my life. While I was a senior she helped me with the Introduction to Health Professionals class I was taking through Northeast. After highschool I went straight into taking classes at Northeast. Unfortunately after a few semesters I had to take some time away from school to better care for my grandmother in her final times. After all if this my mother got sick with cancer and I had to take care of her while also caring for my son. During all of this I kept in contact with Mrs. April and she actually encouraged me to continue my dreams and go back to school. She helped me reapply for admissions at Northeast. I was originally just going to retake some classes to better my grade and chances of getting into the program. A major blessing occurred and they offered me a place in the program without having to retake anything. I am so grateful for Mrs. Aprils support and encouragement in my life and I can't wait for her to be able to watch me graduate from the program.

THE IMPACT OF TRAE BAIN

Throughout my life, I’ve had many teachers and mentors, but none have had a greater impact on me than Coach Trae Bain As my middle school basketball coach for two years and my high school baseball coach for four, Coach Bain shaped my character, inspired me to push past my limits, and taught me life lessons that I carry with me today. In middle school, I struggled with self-doubt and lacked confidence. Coach Bain was quick to notice my hesitation both on and off the court. Instead of criticizing my mistakes, he took the time to encourage me and build my confidence. His belief in me, especially when I didn’t believe in myself, pushed me to work harder and strive for success. He always said, “Success isn’t about being perfect; it’s about how you rise after each failure.” Those words changed my perspective on life, teaching me that failure is a necessary part of growth. With his support, I began to develop a mindset that embraced challenges rather than feared them. When Coach Bain became my baseball coach in high school, his impact only grew. He taught me that winning wasn’t just about the scoreboard it was about integrity, discipline, and teamwork His calm leadership and ability to stay level-headed in tough situations taught me how to manage pressure and perform under stress. Whether we were celebrating a victory or dealing with a loss, Coach Bain’s attitude remained the same focused, positive, and committed to growth. I learned from him that success is built through consistency, hard work, and a commitment to doing your best every day. But Coach Bain’s influence went beyond just sports. He was always there to offer guidance and wisdom in moments of personal struggle Whether it was school stress, family challenges, or just the growing pains of adolescence, he listened without judgment and offered sound advice. He taught me the importance of resilience and perseverance, encouraging me to always look forward, no matter what obstacles lay in my path. Today, the lessons I learned from Coach Bain continue to influence my life. I strive to help others in the same way he helped me whether it’s encouraging a younger player, mentoring my peers, or simply offering a listening ear when someone needs support. I believe that the best way to honor his impact is to pay it forward and share the lessons of perseverance, teamwork, and belief in oneself with others. Coach Bain has been a mentor, a role model, and an inspiration. His belief in me and the lessons he taught have shaped who I am today, and I will carry his influence with me throughout my life.

THE IMPACT OF AUDREY DAVIS

I have chosen to honor Mrs. Audrey Davis. She is a High School math teacher at Hickory Flat Attendance Center where I attend school. She is an incredible person who also represents a profound role model to those around her. "Why?" you may ask. Growing up I had to learn the hard way that just because someone shares your blood does not mean they are your family. My biological family was heavily addicted to drugs and alcohol. As a result of this, they lost me and my sisters to the Department of Human Services. When my sisters and I came to Hickory Flat, through foster care, I was put into Audrey's classroom. Throughout years that seemed long and dreadful, she was my rock by reminding me that I was smart and capable of making something out of myself. She did this many ways whether it was checking on me that day, sitting after class to help me with something I didn't quite understand, or staying on me about studying and making good grades. Even though everyone around me knew what my home life looked like, she never let them use it against me nor did she treat me any differently than anyone else. She would push me to do my best and to never give up, even if I was on the brink of tears. Day by day I grew fonder of her. One day she asked me how I would feel about coming to stay with her for a couple weekends. I was ecstatic. It was strange at first but soon it began to feel like home Eventually she adopted us She showed me kindness, strength, responsibility, and courage. She has changed my life in many ways, but mainly by showing me what a parent is. I never knew motherly love, or any real love for that matter, until I met her No matter what kind of hardships she experiences, I have never seen her break down and give up. She is not only an incredible teacher, but she is my incredible mother as well. I will use the things that she has taught me over the years to show kindness toward others I hope to make sure that those around me feel like they can believe in themselves, despite what they may be experiencing I hope to show them the love and respect they feel they have been missing. THE IMPACT OF BRENT TAYLOR

Brent Taylor has made a significant impact in my life. He was my intro to algebra and algebra 2 teacher. When I first started high school, Coach Taylor helped me and made me feel comfortable starting high school. I went to Hills Chapel Elementary School previously, so going to New Site was a whole different school for me. He always had a welcoming smile every time I would walk into class. He was like a best friend over the years, always making his students laugh and helping them cheer up if they were in bad moods. He would always encourage his students and uplift them. He was a really tough teacher, however I think it helped me in the long run. He would make us memorize and learn all the formulas. I truly believe that him making us do that, help with my memorization. I feel like I can memorize most stuff. If we had extra questions, we could stay after class or tell us to come during his break time and he would help us in any way possible. He wanted nothing but success for his students. Even with my first year of college when I was in college algebra, he told me that I could go up to New Site and he would help me with any questions I had. That shows a lot about a teacher when they are willing to even help you when you start college. Not only was Coach Taylor my math teacher over the years, but he was also my assistant basketball coach during my freshman year. He was always encouraging in the classroom and on the court He always pushed us to our limits, but that's what made us better. He saw the potential in all the players He strived to make us better and help correct us so we could work together better as a team. I want to help people like my old math teacher did I may not can help in the way that he helped people, but I hope to be able to help patients in the medical field I was accepted into nursing school for fall of 2025 and I hope to obtain my RN ADN degree. Once I can become a nurse, I can help my patients I hope to encourage them if life isn't going their way. I hope to make them smile and lift them up that same way Coach Taylor did to his students. Coach Taylor is such an inspiration and role model to not only me, but to so many others as well

THE IMPACT OF ALAN WOOD

When I found out I had to write an essay on a teacher that I feel impacted my life, I immediately thought of my basketball coach, Coach Alan Wood. Coach Wood is one of the most God-fearing men I have ever met in my life. He not only loved the Lord but wanted his players to know and love Him as well. Every time we would have a tough game, or a poorly called game, he would always tell us, “Remember who you ’ re playing for” That always mean so much to me because things would typically get frustrating and we tended to get out of control, but he always made sure that we knew we were playing for the right reason. He always said, “God has given you this talent, use it to the best of your ability”. Before every game and every practice, we would do a devotion; not only did he do devotions, but he delivered devotions. He made things make sense. Around my junior year, he started getting us players to give devotions to get practice started. At first, it was a little nerve racking; but it eventually clicked. He wanted us to be able to get out of our comfort zones and tell anyone and everyone about the Word of God. That was the best thing that we could have done as a team, he brought us together by bringing us closer to God He always had faith He had faith when we did not. He believed in us when we did not believe in ourselves. I remember anytime I needed to talk to him about something, he was always willing to listen; when I would get to his office, something always stuck out to me, he was reading his Bible. Coach Wood, to this day, is one of the most God-loving, selfless, and overall inspirational people I have ever and probably will ever meet.

THE IMPACT OF NATHAN MCLELLEN

I would like to honor my cross country and track coach, Nathan McLellen. He has taught me in class and on the field. He has been my coach since 7th grade. He taught me that I can accomplish big things, even when they are hard. He has pushed me to be my best even when I wasn't sure that I could. His most famous quote that he often repeats is "Are you willing?" To me that means are you willing to do the hard things. Are you willing to push yourself to get to that finish line. He has been my mentor. I know that because of him I am a better runner and person. I am friends with his son and have seen him not only as a coach but as a father as well. He has always treated us runners the same way he treats his own children. He celebrates our victories and encourages us with our losses. He encourages not only me but all of us to make the most out of every practice. He has been a big influence in my life by allowing me to participate in some activities with his family. I went to my first concert with his family and had so much fun. There have been some tough times when I didn't always understand what he was trying to train us for or teach us but I eventually understood and am a better runner because of it. He has always been willing to work with my other coaches so that I could participate in other sports. Not all coaches would let one of their players miss practice for another sport. Coach McLellen also pushes us to be better teammates, to encourage each other. As a teacher for MS Studies and World Geography, I learned how big the world can truly be. In MS Studies I learned about the history of Mississippi. For these reasons and so many more he is the teacher/coach who has had the biggest influence on my and my high school career.

THE IMPACT OF BETH SMITH

The teacher that most impacted my life was Mrs. Beth Smith from Walnut! She was my science teacher for two years and is the reason why my love for science is so strong. She helped me be a better student, friend, and an overall person. She loved her students and was very patient with us as we got to know each other better throughout the year. She pushed me to learn different conversions for chemistry and helped push me into deciding that science is what I wanted to major in. She shined a bright life onto me through helping me on the Math and Science team, she was someone who always listened and guided me in the right direction, and she was just very open about her life as well. Because of her efforts I'm striving in college and stepping gout of my comfort zone on different things. THE IMPACT OF BONNIE WANNER

When thinking of a teacher that impacted my life the most, my mind easily thinks of Ms. Bonnie Wanner. I was fortunate to have her as my 8th grade math teacher and then my college alegbra teacher. Not only is she a teacher, she is a friend. A type of person that lights up a room when she walks in. Math isn't my best subject, it's something that i've always struggled with. Ms. Wanner would take the time out of her day to give daily tutoring to not only me but all of her students. To her, we are not just "students," to her we are family. No matter how long it would take, she would make sure that everyone understood the question/problem before moving on. One of the main problems with teachers today is that they only care about the money, not the student's success, not Ms. wanner. After having her as my teacher and now friend, she has taught me to strive for success in each and everyday and to consider others. I am currently in the Dental Hygiene Program here at Northeast and I believe I can apply that to dentistry as well. I should treat each of my patients as a family/friend, because I want to be a hygienist that people want to have, not dread. I never once dreaded her class, I always looked forward to it. THE IMPACT OF STEVEN BYRD

Throughout my education, I’ve had a lot of teachers, but none have himpacted my life like Mr Byrd, my ag teacher He’s more than just a teacher he’s a mentor, a supporter, and someone who always believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. Because of him, I’ve learned valuable skills in agriculture, gained confidence, and developed a better understanding of who I am. Even before I was in his class, Mr. Byrd knew who I was. He’d seen me running dogs during hunting season, and when I finally walked into his classroom, I was relieved to skip psychology When he called me “Lulu,” I made the connection he knew me through my grandfather, a man with a unique past and a bigger legacy. That moment meant something to me. It showed he actually paid attention, that I wasn’t just another student. From the start, he made agriculture feel real. It wasn’t just about textbooks it was about working in the field, handling livestock, and preparing for competitions He pushed me to join FFA, livestock judging, and other events, even when I wasn’t sure I was good enough At first, I hesitated, but Mr. Byrd always saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. One of the biggest ways he impacted my life was by teaching me the value of hard work. We learned through experience raising animals, maintaining a garden, working in the greenhouse. He never sugarcoated success He taught me that mistakes weren’t failures but lessons And trust me, I made plenty of them But no matter how many times I messed up, he never judged me. He helped me learn instead of letting my mistakes define me. There weren’t many people at school I truly connected with, but Mr. Byrd was different. I could go to him during tough times, and he would always listen and offer advice. Somehow, I always felt understood He never treated me differently, even when he saw some of the hardest moments in my life That kind of support meant more to me than I could ever put into words. Beyond agriculture, Mr. Byrd taught me what it means to be a leader. He encouraged me to step up in FFA and mentor younger students. He showed me leadership isn’t about being in charge it’s about helping others grow Because of him, I want to do the same for others and be someone they can count on Looking ahead, I know the lessons Mr Byrd taught me will stick with me forever Whether I continue in agriculture, help younger students, or just apply the work ethic and life skills he instilled in me, his impact will always be a part of who I am. THE IMPACT OF KENDRIC WHITE

One teacher who has had a lasting impact on my life is Mr. White, my eighth-grade teacher He was the type of teacher who went beyond academic expectations, investing not only in his students’ minds but also in their growth as individuals He inspired me to reach higher, teaching me the importance of resilience, kindness, and genuine care for others. Years later, his presence at my mother’s funeral brought these values into a new light, showing me just how deeply he cared for the students he taught. In eighth grade, Mr. White motivated me not only to work hard in my studies but to believe in myself He always pushed us to aim higher, encouraging us to ask questions, take risks, and approach each day as an opportunity to learn something new His classroom was a safe place where every idea was respected, and he had an incredible ability to make each student feel seen and valued. Even when I struggled, he reminded me that growth comes from persistence, a lesson that has stayed with me through my own academic challenges What made Mr White truly remarkable, however, was his compassion. When my mother passed away years later, I was surprised to see Mr White among those attending her funeral. Although we hadn’t spoken in a long time, he showed up to offer his support, demonstrating the depth of his commitment to his students even beyond the classroom. His presence at such a difficult time meant more to me than words can express. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve had many teachers, but none made as big of an impact as Mrs. Blanton. As my high school English teacher, she saw something in me that I hadn’t yet recognized in myself She challenged me to push past self-doubt, step outside my comfort zone, and believe in my own potential. Her guidance didn’t just make me a better student; it shaped the way I approach challenges and opportunities in life. At the beginning of her class, I rarely spoke up. I kept my thoughts to myself, convinced that my ideas weren’t strong enough to share. Mrs. Blanton wasn’t the type to let that slide. As I saw the prompt for this essay, my mind immediately went to a teacher I was greatful enough to have for two years. Mrs. Alecia Sanderson is a teacher that always went above and beyond for her students. She came into the classroom everyday with a smile on her face, illuminating the light that can only be given by Jesus. She was never afraid to bring Jesus up in conversation, and always made sure we knew just how loved we were. As a high school student, it is very easy to get drug into the wrong crowd. Mrs. Alecia saw when these things would happen and held us accountable for our actions. It is crucial as a high schooler to have someone like that in your life, and she wasn't afraid to be that person. Mrs. Alecia has gone through many tough times. As her students, we always tried to make her day better but in the end, she would always be the one making ours. I have learned many important lessons form Mrs. Alecia, but the most important lesson she taught us was to always put your faith in the Lord. All my life I have been a fairly okay student, I mean I wasn’t the best but I wasn’t the worst I mainly got by enough to pass This all changed when one teacher told me that I have the possibility to do a lot more than the bare minimum and that one day I could make something of myself if I actually put my mind to it. This happened in the seventh grade and before this I didn’t have any confidence in myself and didn’t really care where I ended up. A lot was going on in my personal life and I was having a lot of troubles with my metal health. Then one day I had been sleeping, which I often did in my first class. I woke up to this teacher giving the class a lecture on how none of us tried to be honest, he wasn’t wrong, none of us cared at all At that moment I had the realization that if I didn’t start trying in life that I was never going to be able to do anything I wanted to. I was going to be like the rest of my family who had to work very hard jobs just for a little bit of money, and I didn’t want that for myself, I wanted to make something of myself and do great things. From that point on I started trying in class and now that I am a senior in high school I can say it paid off, I am now going to graduate top three of my class and I’m going to college to eventually become a RN/Paramedic. I have that one teacher to thank for everything I have been able to do with my life so far and everything I am going to do in my life. From that one point I have gotten a lot closer with that teacher and he has helped me through a lot of hard times in my life, he has been one of the only parental figures I have in my life. I am thankful for this teacher for not only teaching me that I can do whatever I want in life, but for being there for me when I felt as though I had no one else. THE IMPACT OF CHARLES COVINGTON

Mr. Charles Covington has impacted my life tremendously. He has taught Ancient History at Saltillo High School for 40 years and recently retired as the Cross County coach, where he led the school to 28 state championships Coach Covington also pastors a church and leads a Christian family He chose to continue teaching his beloved class, as both he and the class are a favorite amongst students. I was blessed to be one of his students. I have been raised a Christian and attended church faithfully my whole life. Despite my background, I still learned a vast amount about the Bible and life of Jesus by taking Mr. Covington’s class. While the material covers the ancient history of the Bible times, Coach teaches many valuable lessons about salvation, growing your relationship with Christ, spreading the Gospel and others Some lessons even included deep and thought-provoking discussions. Coach Covington is an older man with lots of experience and shared a life story with each lesson, making the Biblical concept easier to understand and more relatable. The class inspired me to help others by being the best Christian I can be We never know when someone is watching us If they knew that I was a follower of Jesus, what would they think of my actions, words and lifestyle? We should always be the best example of Christ we can because we never know how it affects others. Our life is a living testimony and our testimony should set us apart from non-believers. Our actions should be examples of Christ’s love and forgiveness We should be different enough that people want what we have, giving them a true sense of hope in a cruel world Coach Covington reinforced my realization of the importance of Bible knowledge. Christians should learn as much as possible about the Bible and their beliefs, to not only be a good example, but also to teach others. We should be able to confidently answer the basic questions about Jesus and salvation. Lastly, Coach Covington motived me to be bolder in my faith. He unashamedly shows his faith everywhere he goes He taught us that God’s goal is a world filled with His glory and that everything in the Bible leads to that goal. He reiterated that we should have that same goal and not be hesitant or afraid to try and accomplish it. Listening to life stories and Biblical lessons from a wiser, older Christian man was very moving. His sincere desire to help us become better individuals motivated me to mature and recognize how my choices influence other people By improving myself, I contribute to the betterment of those around me Mr Charles Covington definitely had the most significant impact on my student life. Through my years of school, I have had many different teachers that have made a big impact on my life. Teachers do more than just help you learn subjects. They guide you as you grow, and they influence your decisions for the future The advice and lessons taught by the teacher that made the biggest impact on my life will stay with me forever. During my tenth and eleventh years of high school, I was a part of my school's career and technical center. They offer many different courses, and I was accepted into the Healthcare and Clinical Services course. Mrs. Creel was my teacher there for two years. Out of every class I have taken so far, this one will always hold a special place in my heart. As soon as I was accepted into this class, I was ecstatic to learn more about the job I want in my future Mrs Creel exceeded my expectations, and she made this class unforgettable. She taught me the important educational things that I needed to know, as well as life lessons. There was never a boring day in her class because every section had an activity to keep the class engaged. I learned more in this class than I ever had before. Mrs. Creel always made sure to answer any questions throughly. She advised me in making decisions for my career as well. Her answers were always honest and to the point, which always stuck with me. I trust her opinions, and I could feel the hope she had for me and my future. Whenever I felt anxiety for big decisions that I will have to make, she eased my nerves by talking me through her own experiences. Before Mrs. Creel was a teacher, she was a nurse. This gave her more experience for her job, and it allowed her to be able to relate to her students. She once was where we are all now. THE IMPACT OF BAYLEE CONNELL

The teacher that impacted my life was my teacher and coach Mrs Baylee Connell. The impact she had on me started my freshman year of high school when I first made the KHS cheerleading team. She instilled many different life lessons in each member of the team, and that is something I will never forget. Those lessons continued on throughout all four years of high school. Even more so my senior year when I had her not only as a coach, but as a teacher Coach Baylee taught me the importance of family, instilled confidence in me, and showed me that through hard work and determination anything is possible Unlike other sports, there is no such thing as an off season. We went from March until February on the years we went to nationals. During this time my teammates became my sisters and Coach Baylee became like a second mom to me. She pushed us through each and every hard practice to prepare us to be the best. If she believed one of us was falling behind she would meet with us after practice to make sure we were just as prepared as any other girl on the team. She pushed me to be the best version of myself even when I didn't think I had it in me A main component of cheer is confidence; you must have confidence in yourself, your team, and your coaches. At times, I didn't have that confidence in myself, but Coach Baylee made sure I knew my worth She showed me how to be a team leader and taught me every skill to be the best cheerleader I possibly could. I always had confidence in my coaches even if I didn't have it myself This was because I knew that no matter the circumstances Coach Baylee would be there for our team. She worked tirelessly year round to make sure we were successful and celebrated every win and loss with us Most importantly, she showed us that through hard work and determination anything is possible. My freshman year we lost the state championship, and we took it hard Coach Baylee pushed us even harder the next year: workouts, tough practices, long nights staying up critiquing our routines. We ended up getting fifth in the nation that year in the large game day division She took us back to nationals my senior year and I always knew that she did nothing for herself but everything for us. I ended my senior year with three regionals championships, three state championships, a fifth place national title, and a third place national title. She took no credit for all of those accomplishments, she was content being the woman behind the scenes. I always gave her the credit she was due though because she is who pushed us to be the best. She instilled a passion for cheer in me that lead me to cheer here at Northeast and for that I will forever be grateful

As I was reading the prompt for this it wasn't hard to know who I wanted to write this about. Before getting into nursing school at NEMCC I was a student at New Albany career and techanical education center for 2 years Through those 2 years I had the most amazing instructor/teacher who truly has raised me to be the baby nurse I am today. My first year in her class I was questioning is this really want I want to do? God called me to do this but is this really what i'm supposed to be doing. At that time Mrs.April and I weren't close at all and she was just a normal teacher I had throughout the day Continuing on into later in the semester I truly started to learn different things from her and the way she taught I became so interested in the basics of nursing I started asking her questions and really engaging with the class more. Towards the end of the year her and I became super close when she started helping me decide which event in HOSA I would be best at. She saw my strengths and weakness and built me up as a student I didn't end up placing that year but I learned so much and made it to state so that's all I couldve asked for The following year I applied for year 2 of her class I became so in love with learning more about nursing and the art of it. During her class we had clinicals where we shadowed nurses in certain departments once or twice a week depending on how much work we had to do in the classroom. I loved clinicals even if it was just shadowing Although, she put me on med/surg twice when I told her I didn't like it I competed in HOSA again my senior year and placed 2nd at both regionals and state competion. She encouraged me like no other teacher had before and pushed me to my best potential. She asked me one day if I had applied to nursing school yet. I had told her there was no way I would get in straight out of highschool and there wasn't a point However, she did end up talking me into applying becasue it couldn't hurt anything I applied in Febuary of 2024 and got in in June 2024 and immediately texted her and told her. Her encouragement and inspiring me to take chances turned into the best season of my life. She was so proud of me and all I could do was thank her. God used her to guide me in a way no one else could guide me Two semesters into nursing and I still talk to her all the way about classes, checkoffs, and clinical I took a chance and applied for a nurse intern position at NMMC and got a job offer. I am now working as a nurse intern on med/surg.

Miss Beth Benson was my favorite teacher throughout high school. I had her my first semester of my junior year and she taught our Impacto program. She now works here at Northeast and I'm able to see her almost every day. Throughout high school there would not be a week where I wouldn't see her 2 to 3 times just to check in and see how she's doing. She taught me how to be responsible in the workplace and how to set myself up for success in the future. Even here at Northeast I'll stop by her office at times just to sit there and have a conversation whether it be 15 minutes or two hours. if there's ever anything I need always come to her first knowing that she's just it takes away and she's always eager to be there for me and encourage me. There were many times when I was in her class where she would show her students that she appreciated them by bringing his food and snacks and offering incentives to make sure we were being the best students we could. You can ask any student in that class and they will tell you that Miss Beth is one of their favorite teachers ever just because of the love she showed for her students. There were many days, my senior year, where I didn't have class and I would just go it in her classroom just to talk to her and get some advice about a situation I had going on. As a highschooler who didn't necessarily look forward to going to school, it was always nice to see her smile as I walk down the hallway. if I ever need someone to talk to to get things off my mind I'll always go to her and she'll greet me with a hug and tell me that she loves me and is always proud of me. Miss Beth is my biggest inspiration as a person to show love and kindness to everyone no matter what.

THE IMPACT OF TILA JOHNSON

The teacher that has made the most significant impact on my life is Mrs. Tila Johnson. She teaches the Health Science I & II class at the Alcorn Career and Technology Center. I have been interested in a career in health care from a very early age, and have always had the desire to help the sick and needy I decided to take Mrs Tila’s class because I knew it would give me the privilege to experience healthcare before college She is the best teacher I have ever had She took me under her wing and helped me so much She gave me information on a wide variety of different careers in healthcare, but I have always been biased to babies in the NICU. Throughout the first year in her class, she always strived to make sure I understood exactly what she was teaching. She showed my classmates and I many skills that will help us to be the best healthcare workers we can be. My favorite skill I learned was becoming CPR certified. It was easy to see that Mrs. Tila loved her students. She was hardworking and dedicated to helping every student succeed. She created a learning environment that made everyone feel safe and welcome The biggest thing I love about her is how she gives love, acceptance, and attention to every student that walks through her door

During the second year of the class, I got to do clinical work at Magnolia Regional Health Center every week I absolutely loved getting to see what goes on in the hospital that the general public doesn’t see Throughout both years of her class, I was almost certain on the idea that I would become a NICU nurse, but Mrs. Tila opened my eyes to a whole different aspect. Mrs. Tila is a nurse herself at Magnolia Regional Health Center in the Emergency Room. During the summer, I went and shadowed her many times. Seeing her work and how she cares for every patient has inspired me greatly. She showed me around the ER and taught me knowledge that I will definetely need for nursing school. She also let me use the skills I learned in the classroom on the patients in the ER My favorite part was getting to assist her whenever she needed help because it made me feel important and involved I loved the thrill, excitement, and adrenaline rush of the ER Mrs Tila has always said that she sees something special in me and my motive to help people I hope that when I fulfill my dream and become a nurse that I make her very proud. She had a huge impact on me and opened my heart up to what I believe I am called to do. Becoming a nurse and using my abilities to help people is my dream. While I work on accomplishing this dream, I will forever be thankful for Mrs. Tila and everything she has done for me.

THE IMPACT OF DEBORAH BARNES

Throughout my educational career, I have been mentored by many wonderful teachers I spent kindergarten through eighth grade at Tishomingo School, and spent the entirety of my high school career at Belmont High School. The person that I learned the most from was Mrs. Deborah Barnes at Tishomingo School. My elementary school career was filled with the hardest trials that I have faced so far. In second grade, my mother and I were in a devastating car accident on the way to school. This accident left my mother with severe injuries such as brain damage and a physical disability. Although she was never expected to make it out of the hospital, after lots of hard work and determination she has made a full recovery and lives close to a normal life. Shortly after, in third grade, my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As a young child, hearing the word “ cancer ” was life altering. Eighteen short months later, my dad passed away. I was now left as a daughter of a widowed mother with a disability. Throughout this time, many people were there for me Most of all, Mrs Deborah showed me more love and compassion than imaginable. Although Mrs. Deborah was not an educator, she taught me more than could ever be taught in a classroom. Mrs. Deborah taught me about love, perseverance, determination, and having love for the Lord – far more valuable lessons than mathematics. Mrs. Deborah is a perfect example of a woman of Christ Although she might not be aware of the impact she made on me, it is one that I will never forget. She was the first one to speak to me as I walked through the doors, and the last smile I saw as I left. No matter the circumstance, Mrs. Deborah was there for me From when I would scrape my knee on the playground and needed to be cleaned up, to the time I made the cheerleading team, she remained one of my biggest fans Most importantly, I have felt the power of her prayers throughout the years. Without people like her, I would not have been able to make it through the times I was faced with. She She and I still have a wonderful relationship, many years later I see her regularly and our visits never fail to leave me with a smile on my face and a full heart. I have been so blessed to experience the love from Mrs Deborah throughout my life She is the best gift Tishomingo School gave me!

THE IMPACT OF CASE INGRAM

Through all my years of schooling I have had many teachers All my teachers have had some sort of impact on my life Jane Johnson in kindergarten taught me the alphabet which gave me the privilege of reading and writing Brenda Palmer in first grade taught me how to respect those around me, which has helped me so many times in life. Patty Whitehurst taught me my multiplication table and that helped me have a strong foundation in mathematics. In sixth-grade, Sandra Nguyen, showed me that learning can be fun and rewarding. That helped me realize that school is what you make it. These teachers, and many more, have all had an impact on me. But if I had to write about one that had the biggest impact on me it would be Mr. Case Ingram. He was my football coach and taught me many of my math classes in high school Coach Ingram was not just a teacher who showed up and did his job and went home, he is a teacher who uses his position to make an impact on every student that walks through his door On the field he would teach us about relying on each other, and how we need each other That is a big lesson, because it is hard to fight battles without having someone to lean on. I point this lesson out because I recently have had battles the last three years that I know I would not be able to fight alone. My dad had an AVM that burst in his brain two years ago that took his ability to eat and walk. This September my mom passed away at the age of fifty-four. As a twenty-two-year-old man it would have been in my nature to think I could fight that alone, but in the words of Coach Ingram, we need each other. On the field and in the classroom Coach Ingram also used his faith in Jesus Christ to encourage his students and push us to the best versions of ourselves He is a strong believer in Jesus, as am I, and he used that to let us know we are never alone Before games he would say that what we do on that field does not define us, that our identity comes in Jesus In him doing this it motivates me to be a better person to this day Coach Ingram was also always leading by example. He was always showing us guys how to be a good student, player, person, and without him knowing he showed me how to be a good husband and father. I have a baby due in March and because of how Coach Ingram led his family I feel more confident in leading mine. He showed me, through these lessons, how to be the best version of myself at home, at work, at school, and in life. That is why Coach Ingram is the teacher who has had the biggest impact on my life.

THE IMPACT OF MEISHA SPARKS

High school is known to be a fun memorable learning experience, and much more High school for me was not easy in the slightest, my freshman and sophomore year were one of the hardest times I had experienced at such a young age I mistakenly fell into the wrong crowds, substance abuse and more. In the end of 2019 we are all aware of what happened the following spring of 2020. Shortly after we had received an "extended break" that turned out to be our summer break. During that time I was able to process and learn how to cope with one of the greatest losses of my life and my families life. At times I didnt think I would get through it, sometimes I would think "is this the end." Long story short it was not, it was the beginning of a new life for me and I owe it all to Jesus for showing me love, kindness, compassion and humilitynow you're probably thinking how did Jesus show you this? Well let me tell you, her name is Meisha Sparks I met Mrs Sparks my Junior year of high school She was my Zoology teacher and my best friends chemistry teacher We bonded over how funny my best friend Carlin is, and talked about how smart she is, how I always looked up to and wanted to be like her. After that first semester ended I would continue to visit Mrs. Sparks everyday, make her laugh and kick me out when she was trying to teach, you get the gist of it. I was just a student that had found her favorite teacher. Next came senior year, by far the best year, and it wouldn't have been possible without Mrs. Sparks. I found out I had Mrs. Sparks yet again for Chemistry and lets just say I will never take Chemistry again. It was a very hard class, but Mrs. Sparks did not let me give up or quit. She would let me stay after class to help me, let me come in during her own lunch hour to offer me help, and she would even let me sit with her at her desk to help me with tests or exams I learned a lot about who she really was during those times Jesus knew I needed a role model and person in my life like Mrs Sparks someone who embodied and exemplified what it was to be kind, courageous, loving, compassionate and human. She was a shoulder for me to cry on when I got my heartbroken by a boy or when I was struggling with my mental health that day or week. She got me through my last 2 years of high school. She taught me its okay to let my guard down, and be who I wanted to be. Fortunaltly we still talk to this day! I was very blessed and will forever be grateful to have met and learned from Mrs. Meisha Sparks.

THE IMPACT OF RANDY BISHOP

The teacher who made the most significant impact on my life is Randy Bishop, or as I have always known him, Mr Bishop He is a history teacher at Walnut Attendance Center, who also teaches business and economics classes He has always gone above and beyond for his students to ensure their success in life. You can always tell he is stressed during May which is when students take the U.S History state test. He is nervous because if a student fails, he feels responsible, even if it was the student’s fault. This shows you the type of man he is. During his time at Walnut, Mr. Bishop started a DECA chapter. This is a business organization, which allows students to compete for scholarships. My sophomore year, I was not in any of his classes, but he noticed me and told me he thought I was an outstanding young man and that I would make a great addition to the chapter Joining the club was one of the best choices I made in high school I earned multiple scholarships, but more importantly I made friends and a close relationship with Mr Bishop During these competitions you often must stay in hotels for multiple days However, this is always a good time with Mr Bishop I have personally stayed up multiple nights in the lobby playing cards with him and his wife, along with some of my friends. He always tells us he is proud of us for impressing his wife, as it is not easy to do. During these trips Mr. Bishop will also donate $20 to each senior as a gift for the last meal we eat. He also ensures everyone has a hotel room and often pays hundreds or thousands out of his own pocket to ensure everyone is including in the trip. Mr. Bishop also gives the DECA members opportunities to travel. Every year he plans a trip to some city or historic site I have been to Washington D C and NYC on two trips Each of these trips me and my friends had a fabulous time, and this is all thanks to the time and effort put in by Mr Bishop to make these trips possible He is also a very devoted Christian and even serves as a Deacon at his church He sets a Christ like example for me especially During our trips we always pray for safety during travel and bless our food before we eat it. He lets everyone know he is a Christian and is never ashamed, or care what people think of that. All in all, Mr. Bishop has made a great impact on my life. He gave me opportunities to travel and earn scholarships. He gave me opportunities to make lifelong friends. But most importantly he set the best example on how to be a great Christian man. I aspire to be like him, and if I only become half the man he is, I will be satisfied.

THE IMPACT OF RICHIE HATCHER

A teacher that I honor till this day is Mr Richie Hatcher He was a Social Studies teacher at Ripley High School and a coach for the football team. During this time, I was going through the loss of my father that was very unexpected. I began to slack in class due to depression and anxiety from the loss of dad. This class was always one I was ready to attend just because we did a lot of hand-on activated and a couple of my friends were in that class as well. Social Studies was never my favorite subject, but Mr. Hatcher always knew how to get our attention. One day in class Mr. Hatcher was doing a "get to know your teacher" assignment In this assignment he was telling about how he was a pastor and different things he had going on at his church. From then on, I knew this was someone I Could trust. After days had went by and he asked me to stay after class. I began to tell him everything that was going on, and he did nothing but speak about life and encouraged words to me. Every day he would always ask how everything was going, and he always had an encouraging word of the day. This was a time in my life where I needed to turn to Jesus and lean on him with everything that was going on. Till this day I still remember how much he encouraged me to be the best version of myself A scripture that he shared that I will always remember is Philippians 4:13 which states, “I can do all thigs through Christ who strengthens me ” . That was my go-to scripture because if I have Jesus on my side that’s all that matter. I can hand over all my problems and worries to him.

THE IMPACT OF JASON RANDOLPH

When looking back through my high school and elementary years, I’ve had so many teachers impact me in different ways. To be honest each one of my teachers has had an impact on me I’m very thankful to go to school in a school district that strives to find the best teachers. All the teachers I have had, in my opinion, have genuinely wanted the best for each and every one of their students and strived daily to make us the best we could be.That being said, one teacher that will always have a special place in my heart is Mr. Jason Randolph. I had Mr Randolph my freshman year of high school for History of the Ancient Middle East. At first I was worried about the class being too difficult since it was mostly upper class men in there with me. I had considered dropping the class, but I’m so thankful I did not. Every day was an adventure in learning in Mr Randolph’s class He made the subject relatable by telling stories, including news headlines and personal perspectives to the lessons. it was evident that Mr. Randolph loved teaching. He was passionate about his criteria and found ways to make even the least exciting lesson memorable.Mr. Jason Randolph is a man of deep faith. He always acts and speaks kindly, never demeans students or coworkers. God and family are his foundation and this is evident when you meet him.I am planning on a career in education and Mr. Randolph is a core person that instilled this goal in me. My hope is that one day my students will think of me as highly as I do Mr Randolph and that I can encourage students to find something interesting even in the bore of every day school.
