World War 2 hero John Beeching will miss out on a memorial plaque reserved for veterans, because he has lived too long. Born in London, John, 93, served

in World War II as a pilot for the Royal Air Force. He has lived in New Zealand for 64 years and calls himself a Kiwi - but because he is classed as a “commonwealth veteran”, he won’t qualify for a memorial bronze plaque when he passes away, due to recent changes to the war pensions act.

From 1 July 2016, Veterans Affairs New Zealand (VANZ) no longer accepted applications for plaques and headstones in respect of commonwealth veterans – only New Zealand veterans. Although commonwealth veterans can still be interred in a service cemetery, the cost of the

plaque, which is around $500, has to be met by the veteran’s family or estate. If John had passed away before the change his bronze plaque would have been covered. John says it is “unbelievable” that VANZ would even consider the change.

The patron of the Nelson RSA calls himself a “naturalised New Zealander” and has more than played his part, commanding 57 different Mosquito combat planes in dozens of missions over Europe.

Its been four weeks since two thieves broke into Morley Motorcycle and Marine, shimmied under a security beam, evaded infra-red detectors, and rolled a $14,500 bike out the store, but no one has been charged for the theft - yet. The pair were caught on Morley’s security cameras when they stole the 2017 CRF450RX bike at 1.49am on April 17. The pair tripped the alarm only as they pushed the bike out the removed window, security was on site moments later and police dogs traced the thieves as far as the neighbouring Placemakers carpark, but no further. After posting a $5000 reward for information leading to their prosecution, Morley Motorcycle and Marine managing director Ian Robinson says they’ve have a wave of informa-

tion flooding in, including the implication that it was an organised group of up to seven people. While no Ian one has been Robinson. charged, Ian says they’ve “kicked up some lowlife” and have handed quite a lot of information to the police, some of which includes people who are well-known to police. “The reward has obviously kicked up a lot of dust and a lot of interest,” says Ian. “We’ve had accusations saying it was an organised group of seven people who were responsible for the burglary, and we’ve had six people in with that information. “We have caused a great deal of interest and I would say that whoever has done it should be

looking over their shoulder.” Ian says he is very grateful to everyone who has come forward and the reward stands. “I am over the moon and the reward stands, I’m prepared to pay them a lot of money. If we can get the prosecution, if we can get these bastards nailed, the reward is theirs. “We need people looking, we need people to be watching out for us and somewhere, somehow, someone is going to open their mouth and there will be some information that will get through to the police.” Nelson Senior Sergeant Nigel McMorran says the investigation is still ongoing and they have been following up on some leads from social media, but could not comment further. In the meantime, Ian says the store have spent another $8,000 upgrading their current security.

A multi-million dollar upgrade of the airport is due to start within weeks and will take about 18 months to complete. The building structure will utilise locally grown and processed LVL. Airport chief executive, Rob Evans says the contract represents the end of an important preparation phase. “The team are very excited to be getting on with the job after a long design period. Domestic passenger growth has been over 25% since 2015 and is expected to surpass one million later this year, by far the highest of any regional airport in the country.” The announcement will be released at nelsonlive.co.nz from 4pm today.

He and his wife Wendy live in The Wood, where John still works part-time at the Cawthron Institute as a handy-man. “I want to know the name of the person who decided this and what their reasons were,

because it’s totally incomprehensible - you’re looking at peanuts here. The whole thing is so nit-picking,” he says. “We all fought for the same thing during the war - don’t forget, half of the air force was made up of commonwealth people.” VANZ told Nelson Weekly that they spend approximately $45,000 each month to fund an average of 117 memorial

plaques and headstones. But it refused to say why it had changed it policy, or how many veterans will be affected. “We’ve lived here all our lives, you know, I’m a New Zealander by choice,” he says. “I think I have contributed a lot to New Zealand - I’ve never had a day’s dole in my life and I’m a life member of the RSA, you know, what do you have to do?”

Families who play together, stay together. In this case, for Nayland College principal Daniel Wilson, his wife Carrie and mother in law Jan Lewis, it’s playing in the Nelson City Brass Band. Carrie plays the tenor horn, Daniel the trombone and Jan the cornet and all have been playing their brass instruments for the last 30 odd years. While Carrie and Daniel started playing when they were eight and nine years old, Jan says she’s always played music and switched to brass so that all the family were “going in the same direction.” Jan’s local band was Ascot Park Hotel Invercargill Band, until two months ago when she moved to Nelson and joined the Nelson City Brass Band. Carrie and Daniel have been active members of the Nelson band for the last 18 months and in other parts of the country before that. “Carrie and I actually met through our involvement in bands. We were playing in a National Youth Band together and since then we have played in bands together in

Auckland, London and now Nelson,” says Daniel. “I think, for us, the best thing about joining a band when moving to a new city is just getting to know people and, for me, I felt it was important, being at Nayland College, to try and get to know the community a little bit and be involved in the community.” “And, becoming a member of a band, you also become part of a family,” says Jan. The third generation is also involved in brass with Daniel and Carrie’s daughter Emma just 18 months into learning the cornet, as well as being a member of Nelson City Brass Youth Band. “We’d like to encourage people to get involved in learning an instrument, the band runs quite an extensive youth programme and, in terms of learning, it uses both sides of the brain and really challenges you. I think for young kids, that social aspect of being around other people, is great,” says Daniel. Lessons offered through the Nelson City Brass Band are free, so if anyone is interested in picking up and learning a brass instrument they can contact Wayne Jennens on 027 444 8939.

A basketball-mad Victory Primary School pupil got the chance to sit down and interview a Nelson Giant last week, shoot some hoops, and attend her first-ever game at the Hangar on Friday night. Nine year old Briana Stewart now knows what Mike Pero Nelson Giant Ali Granger has in his drink bottles, how many pairs of shoes he goes through in a season, and how tall he is. Victory Primary School teacher aide Sharon Tarapipipi says Briana’s class, Room 11, is doing “passion projects” of their choice, and Briana chose basketball. “Briana is visually impaired and has limited mobility, but enjoys playing basketball at school, and part of her project is to research information she would like to know about basketball,” says Sharon. “Because of her visual

impairment it is easier for us to work with electronic devices and she thought doing a filmed interview with a basketball player would be awesome.” Sharon contacted the Giants and they were only too happy to send along Ali to be interviewed. Briana found out that Ali has water and Powerade in his drink bottle, and has quite a few pairs of shoes. “I am known to have lots of shoes. I have blue shoes for home games, white shoes for away games and a range of different shoes to practice with - so my good ones don’t get dirty for games, of course,” saidAli. Also, thanks to the school’s measuring tape, Briana found out Ali was just over 6ft tall. Ali says the best question on Briana’s wellprepared clipboard was “who came up with the team name” – one that he didn’t actually know

the answer to. “I’ll have to get back to you on that one,” he told her. Briana says she likes to watch basketball on TV and was “really excited” to find out a real Giant was coming to be interviewed by her. Sharon says Ali went “over and beyond” their expectations.

“She thought he was funny and cool and she was really happy about the goodies he gave her,” she says. “And, he spent time afterwards instructing her on how to shoot hoops which was something she had been wanting to get better at, so she’s been feeling really happy and proud of herself.”

nelson L ve Arrest over Liquorland robbery: Two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old have been charged with the aggravated robbery of the New St Liquorland, just before 8:10pm on Friday, May 12. They have been jointly charged and released on bail, and will appear in the youth court on Wednesday. Staff are addressing a serious bullying incident at Nelson College. Nelson College dealing with ‘serious bullying incident’: A student has been removed from boarding and suspended while two other boarders have been sanctioned following “serious acts of bullying” at Nelson College. The incidents occurred at the college’s boarding residences in the first term. A statement issued by board chairman Dennis Christian and headmaster Gary O’Shea on Wednesday says the incidents in-

Nelson’s newest refugees are now safer on the roads, thanks to the fundraising efforts of pupils at Tahunanui School. The school’s year three and four pupils managed to raised $250 to go towards purchasing six bike helmets and six bike locks, which were presented last Tuesday to the Red Cross, who help resettle former refugees in Nelson. Teacher Jane Tambisari says, at the end of last year the school had a visit from the Red Cross, who told the children all about refugees. "After that, we thought about how we could help, and the children came up with the idea to raise money to help refugees settle in Nelson," she says. "So earlier this year, we brought out the school’s water slide, charging a gold coin donation for a turn," she says. "Then we contacted the Red Cross and asked, 'what’s the best way to use this money?' and they told us – ‘bike helmets and locks’." Jane then contacted local bike shop, The Bike Station, to see what they could do to help. "Thanks to the generosity of The Bike Station, $250 stretched a long way. They gave us the most generous discounts, and threw in some bike locks for free." Nelson Red Cross Refugee Services client services team leader, Barbara Whitaker, says they were blown away with the offer. "We have lots of second-hand bikes given to us, but helmets and locks have to be new," she says. "Most of our refugee community come from countries where bike helmets are not compulsory, and they are too expensive for them to buy here." Nelson Red Cross Volunteer Programme Team Leader/Trainer, Patrick Steer, says they are always looking for volunteers to help with resettling former refugees in Nelson, and they have just confirmed their next training course for ‘Refugee Support Volunteers’ which starts on 21 July. The Nelson Mail will take two big steps out of Nelson over the coming months, and despite the spin, the fault isn’t with the industry, but with its Australian owners' bad decisions. Fairfax, owners of the Mail, The Leader and stuff.co.nz, is proposing to print the Mail just "three or four" days a week, down from its current six. It has also announced that it will close its Nelson printing press in late July. Fairfax have tried to spin its “new publishing model” for Nelson as a “refresh”. It isn’t. It’s a short-term costcutting exercise, while they try to figure out how on earth it can survive. The move comes just months after the Marlborough Express was shrunk to three days a week and as 125 journalists are set to be cut from Fairfax papers in Australia. What Fairfax’s announcement on Monday morning didn’t acknowledge is that its poor decisions have led them to where they are today. The reason the Mail has struggled in its last 10 years, after 140 years as probably the most influential business in the region, is that it was abandoned by Fairfax. Its “digital first strategy” meant its local stories went onto the Stuff website first, meaning those who bought the paper were made to feel like mugs – they paid for something that everyone could get for free the day before. This has decimated its circulation and is the reason why you will find hardly any local advertisers, compared to even five years ago.

Advertisers need eyeballs. Fairfax thought by boosting Stuff, advertisers would follow them there. They haven’t. Google and Facebook suck up most of the digital advertising, leaving Fairfax in a lose-lose situation. After years of putting their website first, it’s now too late to save their paper. The circulation is too low; the staff are too few. In short, its business model is in disarray. The saddest part of it all, is the number of good people who have been forced out the door of the Mail over the past 10 years. First it was the sub editors, then designers, accountants, middle management, classified staff and now the printers. All that’s left to cut are the reporters and sales staff. These people didn’t deserve to lose their jobs and it certainly isn’t their fault, or the fault of those still there. It’s a shame that the Mail, once proudly locally owned, was sucked into the Fairfax vortex of mismanagement. But don’t let Fairfax’s demise fool you into thinking print is dead. It isn’t. Nelson Weekly, the city’s locally owned newspaper, has just recorded its biggest ever financial result and the next 12 months are forecast to be even better. We’re taking on more staff and expanding into new areas. As a truly local paper, with local owners, we’re dedicated to our city and to telling the stories of our region. This isn't just a catch phrase, it's how we go about our business every day of the week. Weekly staff members pour their energy into every edition. Nelson’s master jewellers From a one-man band to a dynamic duo, Glen James Jewellers now has twice the talent behind the bench and continues to craft stunning jewellery for the growing Nelson region. After seven years on Trafalgar Street, then relocating to 1 Bridge St in 2014, owner Glen James says the business has grown significantly, so much so that he has had to employ another full time jeweller, Jason Jones. “It’s great to have Jason on board, we have both got a good sense of humour,” says Glen. “It’s taken a lot of pressure off everything and it’s fantastic to be working alongside a likeminded jeweller who shares the same passion for jewellery and customer service.” Originally from the UK, Jason started an apprenticeship working on clocks before progressing to the workbench, learning all aspects of jewellery repairs. Nelson bands prepare for Rockquest finals Brittany Spencer

Nineteen student bands battled it out on the Annesbrook Church stage on Saturday, all vying for one of the twelve spots in the 2017 Smokefree Rockquest Nelson Final. Each of the six bands from Nayland College, Nelson College and Nelson College for Girls impressed the judges enough to earn a place in Friday’s regional final at Theatre Royal. Fret 24, So Far, The People’s Jury, Ivasa, Coastal, and Equinox will

go up against Waimea bands and each other in the hopes of making the top two bands, in order to move on to the national final in Auckland on September 2. Jack Rollinson, the Fret 24 guitarist from Nayland College, says the band were absolutely buzzing as they came off stage. “It was a pretty big rush, it’s cool getting the audience excited and it’s awesome seeing people enjoying music that we’ve created.” Although this is the band’s first time competing in Rockquest, the

guitar, drum and vocal trio have been playing together for three years and are looking forward to the regional final. “We’re so excited for Friday,” says frontman Ben Dowdle. “We’re going to practice really hard and get really sorted and we want heaps of people to come down, have a good time and support us.” Smokefree Rockquest founder and director Glenn Common says the level of performance at the heats seems to keep going up every year, but for the Nelson finalists the work is not over yet.

“The 12 bands going on to the finals need to practise hard, craft their set, get their supporters rallied and make good use of networking opportunities and social media to promote themselves and their achievements.” To support and vote for Nelson’s finalists, head to Theatre Royal this Friday for the Smokefree Rockquest Nelson Final. Alongside the band heats was the Solo/Duo section which included students from Motueka High School, Garin, Waimea

and Nayland College. Talented 13-year-old singer-songwriter, Brooklyn Scott from Garin College, took out the solo duo title, followed closely by Lucid Laughs’ Dayla SchmutzerWard and Delilah Botham from Waimea and Nayland College. Both solo-duos acts will now put together 15 mins of their best material and submit it for selection as national finalists. The Smokefree Rockquest Nelson Final will be held at Theatre Royal from 7pm on Friday, tickets are from TicketDirect or at the door.

Hospital needs $150M upgrade: A few weeks ago, while reading the Grey Star newspaper, I came across a photo of West Coast Health Board chair, Ms Jenny Black, and a Member of Parliament, standing viewing the work progress of the new Greymouth hospital. Rather than spend $1.2 million and two years planning for the new Nelson Hospital, maybe Ms Jenny Black, chair person of NMDH Board, could arrange with Nick Smith to obtain from Ministry of Health, copies of the Greymouth Hospital plans and also plans for the recently-completed Taranaki hospital. With a little modification, either plan may be suitable for Nelson. A. Smithson. The best hospital in New Zealand, maybe I should say overall. Miriam Lois Gratton Definitely needs an upgrade. months. We got one positive due to smoking. That was a composite test. When each individual room was retested, no room had over 0.5. The case ended up in tenancy tribunal due to a couple of factors. The adjudicator says he is now not considering any property contaminated unless it is over 1.5. It appears to me that most of the so-called contaminated properties are actually false positives. However, it would be good if the Government would say that if a landlord could prove drug use was going on in a property the tenancy should end. Glenn Morris. Serious bullying incident at College: I had a friend who boarded there 20+ years ago. Some of the stories he told and rituals that were passed down through the years were horrible, but the boys just put up with it because if they spoke up the treatment that followed was even worse. Record turn out for Mother’s Day fun run

Jessie Johnston It was the perfect start to Mother’s Day for hundreds of women all around the country as they hit the pavement for the Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk. Nelson women turned out in record numbers on Sunday morning for the charity event, over 750 gathering outside Jennian Homes on Champion Rd for the start of the 5km course. Nationwide, around 10,000 women took part in the fun run/walk at 23 locations around New Zealand, which is a huge jump from the 7000 women who participated last year. Now in its sixth year, the nationwide event is part of an initiative run by Jennian Homes to support the Heart Foundation’s ‘Heart Foundation for Women’ campaign, which aims to improve the heart health of New Zealand women. Heart disease is the number-one cause of death for women in New Zealand, claiming the lives of more than 50 women each week, and it’s one of the reasons why Powerhoop Nelson decided to head along on Sunday and take part. “[We all thought] why not,” says Powerhoop instructor Sara Irvine “It’s raising awareness of heart health so we’re supporting the good cause, and also we do classes each week and this is just extending what we do and having some fun.” The group’s members come from all over the region and while some chose to alternate powerhooping with walking, others made it their mission to powerhoop the whole 5km. Stoke woman Charlene Wells was also amongst those taking part in the fun/run alongside her son, mum, aunty, cousin, niece and nephew, and says it’s “just something fun to do, we’ve all done it in past years and it’s a nice way to spend time with mum on Mother’s Day.” Amongst the sea of red t-shirts, designed by Dick Frizzell, were Olympic athletes Sophie McKenzie and Anita McLaren, who enjoyed their morning encouraging the participants. Following the event, a nationwide donation by Jennian Homes of $20,000 was made to the New Zealand Heart Foundation.

Freezing works loses 146 years of experience Simon Bloomberg The Nelson freezing works is losing a wealth of experience after three old timers with a combined total of 146 years service decided to hang up their white gumboots. Norm Gill was the first to call it a day, retiring late last month after 45 years at the Stoke plant. Last week Grant Pearce followed suit after 43 years, and Keith Smith, 38 years, will be next when he retires when the season ends in the next week or two. All three belong to a select group who started work at the old plant, which was closed in June 2000, and continued in the new plant opened later that year. "We all came here from the old plant - I think there's only about a dozen or so of us left now," Grant

says. "Nearly all the old guys like us have gone and all the young guys are from a different world, so it's time to call it a day." Norm, who started as a labourer in the old plant before moving to the beef house and then into the cutting room where he was a leading hand and trainer, says he stayed there all these years because it was “a steady job that pays well”. Norm and his son Shane and grandson Sean created history in 2013 when they became the first family to have three generations working at the same time. Grant started at the freezing works in October 1974 after moving from Golden Downs where was a forestry worker, to be closer to his fiancée, and now wife, Jill. He started in the fellmongery

before moving to the slaughterboard where he worked as a labourer, then butcher. Keith had worked at Baigents Timberyard and on the Maui Oil rig before returning from his "big OE" and starting at the freezing works. "My brother-in-law John Eales worked there and he put my name down and I got the job," Keith says. "I started off as a labourer outside and then worked on the cooling floor before going onto the mutton chain as a butcher." All three old timers say the biggest changes they experienced during their long careers were the introduction of strict health and safety regulations and hygiene standards. Although these changes were inevitable, Grant says

they have also made the working environment a lot more clinical. "We used to have a lot of fun in the old plant. There was always someone joking around and playing tricks - you can't do that with all the health and safety these days." Norm says "so much has changed since I started. If someone had told me I would have to wear a hairnet 40 years ago I would have laughed at them.” The development of new technology that has increased the efficiency of the plant is another big change in the industry, Keith says. "It was a lot harder in the old days before all the mechanisation, but we were young and you didn't think anything of it," Keith says. "But even with all the mechani-

sation, it's been getting harder again as I've been getting older." Grant says he is looking forward to his retirement and will be "taking things as they come", although his dog Max may have different ideas about that. "He's a handful so I imagine I'll be doing a fair bit of walking with him. We also do dog agility classes so we'll have more time for that now." Norm is keeping busy helping a friend who runs a car sales yard while Keith is keen to finish restoring a 1929 Model A Ford he has been tinkering around with for a couple of years. All three say they will miss their workmates and camaraderie, but not the early starts and long hard days. "I will miss the guys but not the job - I've had enough," Grant says.

gone better,” she says. “It was so lovely to share the experience with so many wonderful Nelson mums and the hair, make-up and massage pamper stations were non-stop, with mums enjoying the time out to feel special.” There was also a mini crèche at the event so the young ones were looked after while the mums enjoyed the pampering and photo shoots – with the highlight being making new connections by speed-dating other mums. was basically a frame, but in the end I completely stripped it and started from scratch,” says David. “You decide whether you want to know the whole car, so in that case you’ve really just got to strip it back to the last nut and bolt, take everything apart and just fix it all, replace what needs replacing and put it together as good as new. You hope it will then do a good mileage.” When David got his hands on the vintage vehicle, the engine was simply a box of bits, “and a lot of it was completely worn

out.” It’s taken David six years to complete the restoration of the Alvis, although it hasn’t been a completely solo effort. “The body is what everyone sees and it’s the most difficult thing to do, so I got another member to build it for me. Richard Conlon is just an absolute artist, he’s really made it, I can do the mechanical stuff but not that,” says David. David has already had the Alvis out and about, including a trip to Hanmer, and says the car will definitely be used regularly. “You get tremendous enjoyment

out of learning new ways of making things and fixing them, and when it all works in the end,” says David. “It’s a tremendous thrill to actually have them motoring.” Nelson Vintage Car Club also recognised two members who have been part of the organisation for the last 50 years. Tony Hansen of Richmond and Jack Anglesey of Tadmor have both been longtime vintage car enthusiasts and were presented with their 50-year badge and certificate by the vintage car club national president, Diane Quarrie.

Actor brings story of depression to Nelson, Tuesday, May 2: Nelsonians packed into Victory Boxing over the weekend to see highly-acclaimed actor and playwright Rob Mokaraka perform his one-man show ‘Shot Bro, Confessions of a Depressed Bullet’. Victory Boxing’s Paul Hampton said it was an “incredibly emotional and uplifting weekend” with all three shows selling out – they even had to add more seats to accommodate everyone. “Rob was amazing and I can see why the play is award-winning,” says Paul. “We had huge numbers at each show, a real cross section of the community, young and old. Nayland duo make SI volleyball team Jacob Page Two Nayland College pupils will be part of the South Island youth men's and women's volleyball teams. Sophie Young, 15 and Michael Morgoun, 17, will play against their North Island counterparts in July in an effort to make National age-group teams. Both players were picked based on their performances at the National Secondary Schools' Volleyball Championships and were then taking to a skills and training camp. Michael says it's a step to making the New Zealand men's national team after he finishes his final year at school. "I played any and all sports growing up but volleyball was the one that stuck. "I play two positions, pass/hitter or opposite.

"I love the competitive aspect and that desire to win. "I'm contemplating having a gap year and trying to make the New Zealand men's team." she loves meeting people and being part of a team environment. The matches against the North Island will be in Napier. Sophie says the North Island has a higher focus on the sport but she was confident the South Islanders would give a good account of themselves.

Nelson Giant Ali Granger took more than his share of blame for the 76-71 loss to the Super City Rangers in the National Basketball League. The result means the semi-finals become almost impossible, with two matches against table-topping Wellington Saints still to come. Ali, who started the game, says an error on his part hurt his team. "It was a crucial mistake by me at the end - I missed a crucial box out and that sort of thing is going to kill us and it did." That missed opportunity came with the Mike Pero Giants down two with under one minute to play. "When things are going well those 50-50 plays go your way, this season has been tougher and it means things like that seem to go against us more often.” The team now looks to keep their faint top four hopes alive with a win over the Hawke's Bay Hawks at the Trafalgar Centre this Friday night. Ali says the effort and energy in the third quarter of the game with the Rangers, where the Giants out scored their visitors 33-18, was what the team needed for all four quarters. "That energy was awesome for that 10 minutes, but if we managed it over 40 minutes we'd be beating

everyone in the league. "It's a case of moulding all that together and making it work." Centre Morgan Grim agreed that the Giants had all the right pieces to get on a roll but they struggled to maintain intensity and energy for four quarters. Aussie import Kyle Adnam sat out the game with injury but indi-

cated post-match he felt he was seven days away, which could give him an outside chance of playing against the Hawks. Captain Sam Dempster sat out the key minutes in the fourth quarter after picking up a knock but appeared to be fine post-match. The game against the Hawks tips off at 7pm.

Titans put on show in hockey win Jacob Page

Federal Titans underscored their Nelson hockey division one title credentials with a 3-1 win over the Young Feds at the Saxton Hockey Turf on Saturday. It was the experience of the Titans which eventually won the day and wore down their younger club mates. It was an even first half with the faster, younger side matching it with the Titans who were stacked with New Zealand Masters players. The 1-1 score line at halftime gave way to a more dominant effort from the

Titans. Stu Beach was one of the sparks for the veteran side as they scored two goals in the second half to ensure they earned a crucial win. In the other senior men’s match Stoke got the better of Waimai United after a similar second half effort. The scores were locked 3-3 at the break but Stoke got two goals late in the match to prevent Waimai from getting even a share of the spoils after the team, which was promoted to the top division last year, gave a strong account of themselves.

The division one men’s matches are also different this year because women are allowed to play for teams if they get a dispensation. Nelson Hockey is trying the initiative to entice players to stay in the sport and ensure that women’s players still have a good standard of hockey. The two remaining top flight women’s teams play in the men’s second division, with Federal Women beating Federal division two men 2-1 while Tasman women went down to Waimai United 5-2 in another competitive match.
