Helicopter New Zealand is pulling its remaining helicopters out of Nelson, disrupting four jobs and shifting the company’s head-
quarters into the CBD. Nelson has been the offshore Asia-Pacfic base for HNZ since 1962 and provides chartered flights, support to oil rigs, and transport to and from scientific expeditions to Antartica. However, after hitting the mid
point in their lease, international executive vice president Keith Mullet says the time was right to make some changes. HNZ will move its management team of around 40 people from the former Origin Pacific airlines terminal into a soon-to-be devel-
oped Halifax St office in the heart of Nelson. The remaining eight contracted helicopters that fly in and out of the Nelson hangar will be moved to HNZ’s New Plymouth base where the majority of the HNZ fleet are already situated.
