Support for new highway Andrew Board Supporters of the Southern Link had a win with the latest public feedback results from New Zealand Transport Agency showing support for the new road. But those against the new road are still working hard to rally support. The results of the NZTA’s second stage of their five stage investigation into the road were released on Friday afternoon. It showed that more than 60 per cent of the 2010 submitters supported construction of the road, known informally as the Southern Link. Twenty-four per cent of people said they wanted to make the most of the existing network and only 10.5 per cent wanted to widen current routes.

When asked if Nelsonians thought the congestion problem in Nelson was significant, 54.4 per cent said it was very significant, 14.3 per cent said it was moderately significant, 15.3 per cent said it was somewhat significant and only 16.1 per cent said it was not significant. The results suggest NZTA will move onto the next

Questions such as ‘what are young people like these days’ and ‘how
