Weekly celebrates birthday There are two massive news stories for us at the Nelson Weekly this week. First, the Rugby World Cup which kicks off on Friday night, the second is a bit closer to home – our birthday! One year ago today the first ever issue of Nelson Weekly was printed and delivered to 20,000 homes and businesses. month’s Rugby World Cup. Nelson has officially embraced the Rugby World Cup and the nation it’s hosting – Italy. But even the city’s Italian-descended mayor Aldo Miccio is happy to put any speculation to bed. “We are All Black fans for sure, Italy behind that though.”
Not that you could tell from the support the Italian team, known as the Azzurri, has received since flying in last Friday. Just under 1000 people greeted them at Nelson airport that afternoon, even more
