Spotlight of the Month National 4-H Week and Cloverbud 4-H Fun Nelson County 4-H celebrated National 4-H week by hosting a 4-H Appreciation Luncheon on Wednesday, October 4th. This event recognizes volunteers, sponsors, 4-H families and community partners. A week before the vent, 3 members of the Nelson County 4-H participated in a 4-H walk, where they visited most of the downtown merchants to invite them to the event and thank them for their support of 4-H. They were each given a flyer that they could post in their window recognizing 4-H week. On the day of the event, we also hosted an introduction to 4-H for our youngest members, the Cloverbuds. Nineteen 5-8 year olds, 3 teen volunteers, and 4 adult volunteers participated in activities such as woodworking, rubber tire stamp making, nature prints, and introduction to communications projects, and 4-H yoga. The Cloverbuds also learned about food safety by participating in a Glow-germ activity. Once they passed the test and showed their hands were clean, they learned about measurements and food presentation by completing Pumpkin Patch dirt pudding snacks. This also served as their service project for the day, as they made around 50 desserts to be served at the luncheon. Around 80 guests including local, state, and federal governmental leaders attended the luncheon. At the luncheon, they were served a nice lunch and had the opportunity to visit information booths about our 4-H clubs. Representatives from the clubs shared their knowledge of 4-H and even got to be interviewed for local media. It was a fun day impacting around 50 folks before the event, around 80 the day of the event and many more who were able to see the event highlighted in local news.
