Once again, it’s tough for me to say “Happy Spring!” as it is currently snowing outside. If you happen to be newer to the area, welcome to Kentucky. But just know, even for us, this season is a little off. Usually by now we’re basking in either sunshine or rain on a regular basis. For that reason, May happens to be Skin Cancer Awareness Month. It usually is appropriate as we start getting our shorts out and our swim suits ready. Hopefully, by the time you get this in early May, we won’t have seen snow on the ground again. Not that I don’t love it– I’m not one to complain about the weather, but I will admit that I’m ready for a little bit of consistency. Please be sure to check out the upcoming events– especially those on page 3. We here at the office have a lot to be celebrating this month and we want you to join us! On May 1, our new 4-H agent (don’t worry, Danielle is still here. This position was added to help the 4-H program in this county grow even larger!) will begin his work. We will be hosting a reception for him that same evening to let him know how excited we are to have him. He’s not from the county (or even the state) and we want him to know that Nelson County is the best and friendliest! Those of us working here already know that, and May 1st is your chance to prove it to Luke. Our other big event is on May 8. That is Cooperative Extension’s 100th birthday and we want to invite you to celebrate with us! We’ll be having a cook out from 11-2 that day and we’ll be displaying pieces of Extension history here in county. Come out and have lunch on us! Invite everyone you know!
