The Africa UNiTE KENYA CHAPTER Africa UNiTE is the regional component of the UN Secretary General’s Global UNiTE Campaign to end violence against women. ● It was launched on January 2010 at the African Union Heads of State Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The campaign seeks to build on commitments outlined in the AU Protocol on the Rights of Women as well as the Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa among other international instruments. ● Africa UNiTE Kenya Chapter was launched in November 2012 and is part of the regional component of the Global UNiTE Campaign to end violence against women.

AIM: The aim of the Africa UNiTE Kenya chapter is to raise public awareness, stimulate behavior change and increase political support, coordination and resources to respond to national issues related to violence against women and girls.

To advocate for implementation and enactment of National laws are in place and enforced to address and punish all forms of Violence against Women and girls in line with international human rights Standards.

To advocate for adoption of National plans that are multi-sectoral and adequately resourced, with implementation underway.

Enhance data collection and analysis systems are institutionalized and periodic surveys are undertaken on prevalence of various forms of violence against women and girls To identify promising research and evidence based programme results under the 3 Ps (Prevention, Promotion and provision) that can be translated into policy.

To provide a platform for interaction and sharing of best practices on addressing GBV among researchers, programmers, development partners and Government at national and county levels in Kenya.

To share and identify knowledge, innovations and technology towards GBV prevention, response and eradication.

ACHIEVEMENTS In 2015 Auke held its second National GBV conference in Nairobi, which made strong recommendations on GBV budgeting at County Level

Since 2012 AUKe has undertaken capacity building for GBV service providers at both national and County levels

AUKe has undertaken advocacy to enact and implement GBV laws and policies including; i. Sexual offenses Act ii. Prevention of domestic violence Act iii. National M& E framework on SGBV iv. National policy on GBV v. Developed a compendium of four (4) GBV laws vi. Duty bearers hand book

It has undertaken programme implementation contributing towards the 3 pillars.

Awarded best performing chapter in the region in 2015 by the regional chapter.
