HELLO NE LOVERS, Another birthday, Sweet sixteen and never been kissed! Sweet Sixteen - so magic - so fleeting, Do not turn around too fast, my darling `tis only a meeting A meeting that`s not meant to last. .

Around here we think that 16 is a pretty magical number and we couldn’t let it pass without doing something pretty special, So our 16th marks the launch/ rebirth of www.nelove.co.uk. Its means a lot to us as you can imagine, so again we have drawn our friends close and collaborated with some of the North Easts finest. Check out the music section, let us know what you think and get in touch if there’s stuff you would like to add.

From a personal point of view of course I am very proud, but I have said it before and I will say it again! We couldn’t do it without you, so special thanks to Libby from Newcastle College for the helping hands, I still want that giant cocktail you promised me.

Then there’s our, now not so secret admirer, who takes the trouble to text me not just to agree with me about the late great David Bowie (how could he not) but just to say how much he loves the NE Love and to keep up the good work, Its people like you (hope you’re reading this) that make it all worthwhile l LOVE

BODY TALK IN COLLABORATION WITH COBALT STUDIOS BERLIN IN THE OUSEBURN?

Just what the doctor ordered, the home of the quirky, creative, new crowd, Body Talk, Clark Davison, Michael Sweeney, Jo Howard, Cubik and Mark Algar. This collaboration has come about after the incredible success of Moon Rocks at Cobalt during the 2016 Late Shows. A place where the whole mood of the dance floor can be changed simply by altering the lighting, embracing the multi-disciplinary creative ethos of the building. Eccentric, eclectic artists and DJ’s come together in a non genre specific night, where the ethos is no more no less, than to party to some of the best dance music the North East has to offer. And some guest DJ’s you wont believe. Intimate? Underground? Yes! This is exactly what Body Talk have set out to do in this perfect 250 capacity venue, bringing you talent such as Ivan Smagghe. Actually there’s only room for 245 of you cause we’re all going! See you on the dance floor l

HOLLIE NEWTON

Hollie Newton’s “Abstract Interaction” menswear collection fusions the unique Indonesian architecture, in particular the intricate patterns created as part of the Rumah Gadang, and the abstract work of Bauhaus’ Josef and Anni Albers. This is Hollie’s second collection after winning an international competition; she travelled to Flores, Indonesia, where she was inspired to create her first collection which was shown at Jakarta Fashion Week in October 2015. Hollie has recently been offered a position at ASOS in the Menswear Design Department l

ELLEN

CABTREE

Ellen’s final collection, titled B.U.R.M.A was inspired by the postal acronyms used in WW2. The collection focuses around young love; the desire of a man seeing his wife after a long stint at war, to be greeted by her in her nicest lingerie, that was most likely hand made from scraps of silk and adorned with needlecraft. The influence for the colour palette takes its inspiration from women’s war uniforms and the typical subtle colours of the 1940’s, to create a cohesive and minimal aesthetic. Drawing from her research, Ellen’s designs are influenced by a mix of historical and contemporary fashion examples, while also looking into the idea of the made-do-and-mend philosophy of altering and customising clothes; exploiting different techniques of embellishment and aesthetic alterations l

NEON

The Chemical element with the symbol NE, Love her already!

Fortunately for me it was around 18 degrees at six in the afternoon on a balmy evening after a long sunny day in Newcastle, when I got the chance to catch up with the lovely Neon Hitch for a quick chat about life, guys, friends and the imminent release of her new album. Neon at the time was sunning herself somewhere in Miami where it was only one pm. Were it not for the day we had had on this side of the pond this could have all, been a very different story, but for once I wasn’t suffering the summertime blues.

Neon comes to the phone bright and breezy and from the moment we started to chat she was funny and painfully honest and from the word go it was like a catching up with an old friend.

Q. Sooo Neon lets get all of the obvious questions out of the way, I am actually going to be cliché enough to ask you about your name. I can see why it would be a great name for an artist and it’s a copywriters dream. Neon Shines brightest, Hitch your wagon to a star etc. etc.

A. (giggles) Actually, believe it or not, that’s my real name, my dad was a lighting technician, with a sense of humor so I really am called Neon, and believe it or not I have tried to copyright it. Can you believe you can’t copyright your own name? (We didn’t)

Q. Ok then, we’ve agreed the names very Hollywood, how did you first end up in the States?

A. It’s a long story, but believe it or not I was actually homeless when the record label The Beats ceased to be and then just at the right moment, up pops Benny Blanco who flew me to New York to work with him. It’s been 8 years now I cant believe it!

Q. How would you describe your musical style and who have you been influenced by?

A. My music style changes with every record I make and I have been

influenced by so many styles of music I wouldn’t know where to start. Pop, electro pop, dance-pop, electronic rock, pop rap. In fact I’ve just recently had a lot of fun doing collaboration on a couple of tracks with a DJ called Borgeous. Also, I just made a track in one hour for a TV program, the deal was that they basically said there’s a piano, you have one hour, go away, come back and impress us! I thought “F*****g Hell!

I’m not that great on the piano.” As it turns out, I must be pretty good under pressure because that particular track ‘Please’ will be the first release on my new album.

Q. It much be great fun working with your G.B.F Archie (Partner at Alexander McQueen) for so many years, bet you have loads of tales to tell about your time with him?

A. Oh my God! Yes! I love Archie! He was my upstairs neighbour at the time when I lived in Brighton. It was really funny, every night there was either him screaming at his boyfriend upstairs or me screaming at my boyfriend downstairs, then we’d spend hours drinking and slagging off men in general. I miss that, Archie’s hilarious and a really great guy.

Q. NE Love has heard on the grapevine that we might soon have the pleasure of your company in the UK?

A. Yes, we are lining up a tour of the UK to promote the new album and the North East is definitely on our radar, we’ve heard you guys know how to party.

NE Love is really looking forward to meeting the young lady in question and showing her exactly how we party, in the meantime watch out for her brand new album ‘Anarchy’ available July 22nd l

Few artists have experienced the meteoric rise to stardom as UK born DJ and producer Denney has done. With a rich musical heritage that has been the result of years of relentless hard work, Denney’s first breakthrough was in 2012 which came in the form of his smash hit ‘Ultraviolet’ which was famously signed by Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations imprint.

Fast forward to 2016 and the North-Eastern star has racked up an impressive abundance of accolades with his musical output spreading across dance music’s most revered imprints such as VIVa Music, Crosstown Rebels and Ministry Of Sound. An artist whose passion is firmly at the forefront of every project that he embarks on, we sat down to chat with him ahead of his forthcoming performance in Newcastle alongside one of dance music’s undisputed greats, Fatboy Slim.

You first supported Fatboy Slim 12 years ago on his album tour. Tell us about that gig. How did you prepare? What was the crowd like?

I did indeed; I won a competition on Galaxy radio and supported him on his Palookeville album tour. I remember being so nervous as it was the biggest gig I had done to date at that time. I was on vinyl then so made sure I had all bases covered music wise with 2 big bags full of records. I remember the crowd were amazing and so up for it, Norman always pulls a party crowd.

You’ve played in Newcastle several times before. Is there anything that stands out about the local crowd?

I love playing Newcastle and I love Geordies generally, they are without doubt the friendliest people in the UK. The crowd is always bang up for it and I always leave Newcastle buzzing from the gigs.

What has been your most memorable gig to date so far and why?

I got to play Elrow in Barcelona this year which was incredible, I played peak time on the terrace and has so much fun. I won’t be forgetting that gig in a hurry believe me.

You’ve had some big releases recently on the likes of Crosstown

Rebels, Pokerflat and 20/20 Vision. Can you tell us about your upcoming releases?

I have an upcoming EP on Heidi’s ‘Jackathon Jams’ Label, another new track will be forthcoming on Global Undergrounds 20th Anniversary CD and am currently working on a collaboration EP with Skream, Steve Lawler and Groove Armada.

What’s your favourite track of the year so far and why?

I love ‘Dogma 1’ by Michael Mayer and Kolsch, it’s such a great melodic record. If you weren’t making music, what career path do you think you would have taken?

The only other interest I have other than music is cooking so maybe a chef…I’m not good at being told what do though so that might not work thinking about it haha.

Which artist would you most like to collaborate with and why?

I would love to do something with Danny Tenaglia, he is one of my favourite DJ’s and has a vast musical knowledge. I reckon I could learn a lot from him which I love to do in the studio.

If you could create your own main stage at festival, which three headliners would you have play? (Any artist/act past or present)

It would have to be Prince, Miles Davis and John Lennon. I think that line up would sell some tickets!

What’s the biggest piece of advice that you can give to up and coming DJ’s/producers?

Stick to your guns and don’t try and cater your sound for certain labels, this will give you your individuality and in turn will make you stand out to the labels and get you signed.

We’re not here to bang on about Pete’s problems, his relationships or addictions. In fact, the point of this particular article is to celebrate this multi talented Geordie. Yes! Peter is a northerner of whom we all should be very proud.

From the days of The Libertines in the late ‘90s to the release of their debut album Up the Bracket there has always been something beautiful if not hypnotic about his persona. On the day that Oasis’ released Be Here Now some film was taken of Pete, a clip that later appeared on YouTube, of an 18 year old Doherty who, while meant to be filling in graves, was sitting on gravestones reading and writing. It would be interesting to know now exactly what it was he was reading, it could’ve been anything from Byron to Edgar Allen Poe. There has always been a certain melancholy in his behavior. If you’d ever seen The Libertines live, you will have noticed the love/hate relationship between himself and Carl Barât. The two bounced off each other making these performances electric in the song Can’t Stand Me Now, being a classic example. In 2010 The Libertines reformed for appearances at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. They performed on 27 August at Leeds Festival and on 28 August at Reading Festival. The festival appearances were preluded by two gigs at the HMV Forum on 24 and 25 August. In November 2014 the band signed a record deal with Virgin EMI Records, and released their third album, Anthems for Doomed Youth on September 11, 2015.

Soon after The Libertines, Pete formed Babyshambles and in April and May 2005, Babyshambles spent several weeks in a recording studio in Wales working on their debut album with Mick Jones of the Clash, who had also worked with Doherty on the production of the

Libertines’ albums. The album, entitled Down in Albion, was released on 14 November 2005. It reached the Top 10 on the UK Albums Chart. The first single from the album, “Fuck Forever”, had been released on 15 August, reaching number four on the UK singles chart. The second single, “Albion”, was released on 28 November and reached number eight in the UK singles chart. In February 2006, Babyshambles won the Naomi Award for Worst Live Act, and were nominated for several NME awards. The band performed “Albion” at the NME Awards show, and Doherty won the “Sexiest Man” award. Just in case you’re reading this Pete, that doesn’t surprise me in the slightest! Xx

Which leads us to Pete at Riverside in Newcastle earlier this year, a friend told me that she’d passed him outside of Flip, it’s a good thing it wasn’t me cause I wouldn’t be held responsible for my actions. The brand new Pete, the good boy, showed up that evening on time, more sober and together than ever and charmed us with new solo material as well as some Babyshambles and Libertines classics. The Whole World Is Our Playground, which came out as part of Record Store Day last month, went down well, and the respectful crowd hushed to listen attentively to Flags Of The Old Regime, which was dedicated to the late Amy Winehouse, whom we of course adore and miss terribly.

In the end Babyshambles song Albion received a huge sing-along and massive cheers as Pete changed the lyrics to reference Sunderland, Gateshead, and Newcastle. To which some of the crowd sang back “Peter is a Geordie!”

Pete Doherty, musician, comedian, party animal, a man were proud to call a northerner, watch this space…l

1. PROGESSIVE OVERLOAD

Ten Training Principles

It is about constantly overloading the muscle by either lifting more weight, exerting more force or increasing repetitions. Muscles grow bigger and stronger as they adapt to stress (from restistance training). Progressively challenginmg those muscles will help to continue their development.

2. USE COMPOUND EXERCISES

Pushing, pulling and lifting compound movements (e.g. Deadlifts, squats, overhead press, rows and pull ups) involve more muscles as well as larger muscles groups than isolation exercises which involve smaller muscles (e.g. bicep curl. Tricep extension). The more muscles used in an exercise the more Neuro-Muscular Activation. These exercises increase size and strength in your muscles in a shorter time as well as producing higher growth hormone in the body. Isolations can be introduced later as you build your strength. Compound exercises also are greater for burning more calories so are great for weightloss.

3. FREE WEIGHT EXERCISES

Using free weight will challenge your core and your small intrinsic and stabilising muscles.

4. TRAIN YOUR CORE

Your Core is your entire midsection and the foundation of your strength, incorporated in almost every movement of the human body. Training this correctly holds the key to preventing injury and efficiently transferring/producing force during those compound movements. Fundamental Core exercises are Plank, Side Plank, Bridge, Back extensions.

5. TRAIN BALANCE

Having balance in all aspects of your training is important i.e

• Covering all major muscle groups

• Rest:Training ratio

• Energy Systems

• Life Balance

• Unilateral movements (single arm/leg)

6. MIX UP YOUR TRAINING METHODS

At Klonefit we borrow training methods from lots of different disciples

(Strongman, Hypertrophy, Crossfit, Plyometrics, Hiit, Tabata, strength & conditioning)

Using a mixture of training methods means you can keep your training fresh and exciting and more productive. By taking the best bits of these disciples you end up with a great mix.

7. REST

Muscles grow while at rest. The resisantce training is the stimulus for growth, but sleep, rest and nutrition allows the hypertrophy to take place.

8. NUTRITION ON POINT

Provide your body with the fuel its needs to repair, grow and maintain.

KEY POINTS:

• Right balance of Macronutrients and Micronutrients

• Moderate/High protein intake

• Plenty of Healthy fats

• Choose Wholegrain carbs

• Plenty of water

• Single ingredient foods

9. FLEXIBILITY

Work on your range of motion (ROM) round your joints. This is achieved by stretching, foam roiling and mobility work.

10. ENJOY IT

Make sure you keep your training fun and fresh as if you don’t enjoy it your less likely to continue and maintain your training.

If you cover these principles correctly in your training you will achieve some great results. If you would like further help or training let me put you through your paces with klonefit personal training. Happy training. Pete.

YEAH I COULD DO WITH SOME OF THAT...

Newcastle Hair and Beauty Clinic are pioneers when it comes to new beauty treatments and I was invited along to road test their latest offering: The Decleor Aroma Blend Transformation Ritual (try saying that fast). Aroma Blend is Decleor’s foray into the private blend market. By working with each client to assess their needs and expectations, a tailored blend of oils is mixed and used with a specific set of massage movements and rituals over your entire body. This isn’t your average Full Body Massage treatment. There are four rituals to help with firmness, slimness, revitalising legs and flatten the stomach, each with four key benefits: firming, sculpting, stimulating and drainage. The results according to Decleor? Emotions are balanced, and body durably remodelled. The massage movements themselves are very different to what you might be used to, There’s light ‘pinching’, standard muscle manipulation and pressure point release in addition to the standard effleurage and petrissage you’ve come to expect from your regular massage. There’s also a lot more hands on and off the body rather than constant contact and a lot less product is used. This means that rather than gliding effortlessly over slick skin, the treatment is more friction focussed and I find that I quite like this, particularly on my tired legs , it’s a peculiar, but effective treatment and one that you have to try out to know whether it’s for you l

MORE THAN JUST A BISTRO

On Thursday my friend and I decided to take a break from our usual hangouts and take a trip (just down the road) and pay a visit to Billabong at the Caledonian Hotel on Osborne road.

This wasn’t our first visit to Billabong but it had been some time, the timing was great too as the football was on in the bar next door which was packed to the rafters, while we had the pleasure of a nice quiet place to eat, while not to far from the action.

We were immediately shown over to a window table in the bright airy restaurant by very attentive staff, informed what the soup of the day was, and drinks were on the table within seconds, leaving us to ponder the menu.

On finding out that one of the house reds was a Malbec the choice was made for me really, it did not disappoint in fact you rarely come across a bad one, this one in particular was the perfect accompaniment to our food.

Frankly I was pondering the Pâté when Michael pointed out that was exactly what I always do, so I opted for the goats cheese salad, the cheese was light and full off flavor served with a pretty salad and small round melba toasts, Mike had chosen the teriyaki chicken skewer, great choice, golden and juicy chicken marinated in that perfect mix of soy, honey and teriyaki. The usual food stealing ensued and I found that I love teriyaki chicken skewer with goat’s cheese, new recipe perhaps? Don’t knock it till you have tried it.

Then on to the main event, otherwise know as the main course, for Mike more chicken, this time with cheese and bacon which judging by the speed at which he demolished it, and his side of delicious fresh veg, must have been fab, no food envy this time though, oh no because I had ordered the lamb, clever me! I love lamb when its cooked well, served with a little tapenade either side my lamb was cooked to perfection seared on the outside and just a hint of pink inside, it melted in my mouth and as I was feeling a little self indulgent I had ordered fries as my side. The whole meal hung together perfectly. The fact that the staff were so professional and the food was great was of no surprise, its no more than I have come t expect from the Caledonian. Two things however did

1. They change the menu every Saturday for the following week

2. The unbelievable value for money, a bottle of that lovely house wine and two courses for two people just £30.

I may never cook or wash up again! Billabong we will be back l

& PROBABLY THE BEST COCKTAILS IN TOWN

97 & KNOW HOW

THE ZOMBIE WAS INVENTED BY DONN BEACH, OF HOLLYWOOD’S DON THE BEACHCOMBER RESTAURANTS, IN THE LATE 1930S. THIS VINTAGE COCKTAIL IS CALLED ZOMBIE BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT IT CAN TURN ITS DRINKER INTO.

It’s a high-octane cocktail full of delicious fruit juices that make you feel like you’re downing sophisticated candy. But that deliciousness hides quite a lot of liquor. There are several variations on this cocktail. This version is more or less the classic.

RECIPE

House secret spirit mix (shhh), orange, passionfruit, lime, grenadine, bitters. Shake all the ingredients except for the 151-proof rum together in a shaker. Pour the mixture into a glass (this one just calls out for a funky-shaped glass). Pour the 151-proof rum on the top of the drink. You can definitely light your Zombie on fire at this point if you want. Garnish with a cherry, a slice of pineapple, an orange slice, all of the above, or pretty much whatever fruit you feel like l

LONG SUNNY AFTERNOONS & SOHE

SOHE RHYMES WITH ENVY, FOOD ENVY THAT IS!

Its no secret that NE Loves Sohe, we have been there on many a birthday, Christmas Eve and of course on other occasions just because, well we can.

So we were pretty excited when we found out that they had extended the lunch menu so that you can take advantage of the early bird menu until much later. Tapas (little bites of everything) or the Two course which is two appetizers, two lunch mains and glass of wine or half a Tiger beer! To good to be true? Considering the quality of food that we are used to being served up by this lot you would have thought so, but guess what? It was THAT good.

It seems like no time at all since the Sohe crew were saying “To us dining isn’t just about a plate of incredible food; the overall restaurant experience has become more and more important in recent years,. “It’s not just the food that must reflect our vision and our ‘vibe’, but everything that surrounds our diners too. From the bar to the chairs and the walls to the lighting, everything at Sohe has been specially created. This provides our diners with a sense inspiring experience in sight, taste and touch.” They’re not wrong.

My lunch date for the day Beverly had never had the Sohe experience before so I knew she was in for a treat, for my part I had already decided that I was going to go for the Tapas, aka “Iza-Kaya Appetizers. this decision is mainly based on the fact that I suffer terribly from food envy, and want whatever everyone else is having. So my first choice is

the crispy rice balls, great for the vegies amongst us too, mushroom, sesame seeds, and spring onion, rolled together and fried until golden brown, wow! Next my favorite, salt and pepper squid in the lightest batter imaginable, and served with Togarashi mayo, not in then slightest bit chewy & cooked to perfection. Last but not least I choose chicken yakitori skewers, delightfully juicy chicken, carrot, mouli slaw with wasabi & yuzi dressing. In a word divine.

Beverley who also suffers the dreaded food envy also went for the rice balls which she followed by spiced sirloin stir-fry, with peppers, spinach, bean sprouts, Sichuan pepper and egg noodles. The food was wonderful as ever as of course were the staff.

This extended late lunch menu is now served right up until 7pm Sunday to Thursday, its an absolutely perfect way to start an evening out, so whether you go for the Asian tapas at three for £10, or the 2 appetizers and two main courses for £20 (there is a £2 supplement for the sirloin) you will start your evening in style.

You would be hard pushed to find food this good in such elegant surroundings that is this good value for money anywhere.

SOHE rhymes with Envy, food envy that is. l

FIVE STAR FOOD HITS JESMOND

THE PIZZA FOR PIZZA LOVERS

Cal’s Own finally opened its doors in Jesmond earlier in the year, following three successful years on Chillingham Road, Heaton. The pizzeria has built itself both a local and national reputation in that timeas well as universal praise from restaurant reviewers, helping to make it into TripAdvisor’s list of the “Top 20 UK Pizzerias”, and Buzzfeed’s “Top 17 Pizzas to Try Before you Die!” More recently they also secured a spot in Daniel Young’s book “Where to Eat Pizza” which features 1,705 of the best pizzerias round the world.

For their new location, owners Calvin Kitchin, and his brother Kerry, have imported the ‘Ferrari of wood-fired pizza ovens’. Hand built in Naples by Stefano Ferrara, this impressive piece of kit took a month to construct, and two weeks to transport to Newcastle. To quote the rightly proud owners ‘‘We’re constantly pushing the boundaries of how pizza ought to be made. Using techniques both old and new and importing our core ingredients from the Campania region of Italy, you simply will not find more authentic Neapolitan pizza anywhere else - well, maybe Napoli...” Modest errrr no ! But then again The Chronicle’s Secret Diner gave the restaurant a 5 star rating for food, citing it as the best pizza outside Naples (and as good as the best in Naples!).

We can’t honestly say we are surprised by the many accolades already attributed to Cal’s Own. From their ingredients alone it’s clear to see that they don’t mess around when it comes to quality and authenticity. Their pizza sauce for example, is made using San Marzano DOP tomatoes. These grow at the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius, where highly fertile soil from volcanic ashes produces a beautifully sweet tomato. Then there’s the Buffalo Mozzarella which is imported from Campania, Southern Italy. This cheese is DOP, meaning that it is protected to the highest

standards and can only come from two specific areas of Italy - Caserta and Battipaglia. Their Grana Padano (hard cheese) is also DOP and the fiordilatte (fresh cow’s milk mozzarella) is cut by hand. Then there is their famous dough which is made using the finest ‘00’ flour and fermented with their very own sour dough starter which they have kept alive since 2012. The dough is then proved for 72 hours and baked at over 400 degrees. This gives a range of textures and flavours only found in true pizza Napoletana! In this case on Holly Avenue West in Jesmond. Of course we recommend that you drop by for the pizza but there has also been a great deal of attention towards the bar, which stocks a range of local beers, Italian lagers and wine specially selected to pair well with the food. Upon visiting you can not fail to be impressed by the stripped back interior which we’re told has been influenced by industrial Naples and New York. To bring to life their vision, Cal’s Own brought on board Dan Civico for the interior design and commissioned artwork from the very talented Jack Nassau who you may remember designed NE Love’s Christmas 2015 front cover. Great minds think alike, what’s not to like? l

WINE & DINE AT WYLAM

FOUNDED IN 2000 WYLAM IS A 30 BARREL MICRO BREWERY NOW RESIDES AT THE PALACE OF ARTS IN EXHIBITION PARK.

The Grade-II listed Palace of Arts building located in Newcastle’s Exhibition Park opened as the new Wylam Brewery on Friday, May 27th. The opening of the 30-barrel micro brewery was stylishly celebrated with an energetic three day long series of events named The Happenings. An array of tasty, feel-good street food ranging from Longhorn’s Smokehouse to Fat Hippo was on offer to the many guests who also enjoyed, of course, refreshing craft beer and ale!

Hip-shaking, live music from the likes of The Buffalo Skinners, Monkey Junk Blues and Hokum Hotshots brought the extravagant, Art Deco Style grand hall to it’s former life after sat derelict for almost a decade. The former 1920’s exhibition centre will now house regular events such as showings of cult classic films from pop-up cinema Screenage Kicks, the North East Brewers Market and much more live music. The beautiful lake-view venue is also hirable for a stunning location for weddings, art exhibitions and corporate events.

We at NE Love had the chance to visit the brewery and enjoyed soaking up the great atmosphere and the tunes that were being played by our dear friend Steven Dunn. Not to mention an array of alcoholic beverages

long enough to make you dizzy, including such delights as lavender gin and tea gin (not that we love gin!). However we did manage to stay away from the gin bar long enough to try some of Wylam’s very own incredible brews, such as the bittersweet Jakehead IPA and the light and tropically zingy Hickey The Rake ale. As we are NE Love, we did sample some lovely bubbly, too! Many thanks to Wylam Brewery and the lovely Richard Hathaway at Matthew Clark Wholesale for the invite and subsequent hangover! l

We couldn’t have asked for a better day. As hundreds flocked to Woodhill Hall for their Alice in Wonderland themed open day, the gods were smiling down on us. What better accompanies paella, white sangria and a flamenco guitarist more than the sun beaming down on a beautifully decorated white terrace, which in the evening was reminiscent of Ibiza. The perfect back drop for Mike Holmes’ guitar and Jake Houslby’s particular brand of pop. The weather was beautiful, not your typical British summers day, without a cloud in the sky the white sangria and paella went down all too well. Maybe it was the white sangria? or perhaps the incredibly romantic setting but something or perhaps all of this led one of my colleagues actually saying in front of his girlfriend ‘before arriving I was not considering marriage”.Whoops-adaisy! That caused some excitement, I can tell you. We don’t call the place magical for no reason you know. Both open days, gave a great insight into this hidden treasure, if it wasn’t for the fields surrounding it, you could easily imagine you were in a Mediterranean villa. The interior at Woodhill is easily as beautiful as the exterior, there is something stunning to see no matter where you look. From extravagant wallpapers to the quirky bar, to the fabulous bedrooms and bathrooms, every room is unique yet just as breathtaking as the last. It’s safe to say the whole weekend was a roaring success and we can’t wait next one on July 17th between 3pm and 6pm. Watch this space l
