Ahhhh Newton Hall beautiful, elegant an invite to tranquility!
At last a chance to visit, I have heard much and seen many photographs, which while beautiful didn’t really do it justice, just the view walking toward the hall from the car was enough to turn my frown upside down and my stressomiter down by about 75%. By the time we walk in to the beautifully restored reception to be met by the first of a long line of extremely friendly staff I have decided that my laptop will stay firmly in my bag.
I was fortunate enough to have the Italian room, mirrored bathroom walls and slipper backed freestanding bathtub, a huge bed a wardrobe right out of Narnia and beautiful shuttered windows. It was love at first sight, having arrived later than planned we decided to make our way to the Joiners Arms, their own pub at the bottom of the garden and the only luxury 5 star inn in Northumberland.
The pub was a welcome sight on that rainy night and after dining on prawn tempura followed by melt in the mouth aromatic sea bass and a bottle of the house red I can honestly say that it deserves every one of those five stars. Speaking of stars, by the time we headed back up to the hall the rain had cleared and as there is very little light pollution the sky was like black velvet peppered with twinkling stars. It seemed that even the elements had conspired to cast a spell, one that would make you want to stay there forever or at least return some day.
Back at the hall we were invited for a drink at the bar, but I was so relaxed declined in favour of a long luxurious bath, soon after I was in my
princess bed, tired happy and comfy. We had been offered breakfast in our rooms but when we woke on Friday morning we headed downstairs to the cozy breakfast room, to a full English breakfast, more absolutely lovely staff, oh and a fresh smoothie.
Having arrived late the previous evening I was pretty keen to nose around the rest of the hall, every one of the rooms we saw were different and just as luxurious, the function room is beautiful and the views stunning. Newton Hall has it all!
The venue has been traditionally known as a wedding venue and I can see exactly why I have never come across a more romantic setting, Bold, Romantic, Fantastical, yes its all of those things. More recently though it has been made available for corporate events, private functions and parties (lucky us) I really didn’t want to get hitched again but hey, if that was the only way to get back there, que sera sera!

HELLO NE LOVERS,
And welcome to our second anniversary edition.
All those oh! So trendy in their flapper and flair. Delinquent derelict, four walls and a square! Never should you worry about society. The best things in this life are never free! (Lyrics by PIL HAPPY 1989).
GREAT song: except that some great things are of course free like NE Love for example and NME and BBC radio 6, just a few of our favorite things.
On the subject of NE Love!
W.O.S 2015?? Walk of shame 2015 of course
We have all been there at one time or another, so we decided to call again on the services of the wonderful Junkyard Creative and just have some fun with this shoot, I’m sure that I speak for Craig, Michael Toria and Rachelle when I say we had a blast!
I guess all that remains is for us to wish you all a healthy, wealthy 2016, but most of all; I wanted to wish you LOVE! After all, it’s what really makes the world go around!
See you on the dance floor at Shindig or Haze or Ape-x, Community or Hardwick, or for a drink at No28 either way, I’m sure we will bump in to you somewhere! l

If it’s been a while since your last visit to Sunderland, you might be surprised to see how many hip new businesses have popped up around the city centre in recent months. It’s lovely to see the city on the up again with a lot of great business and creative ideas coming together. From a personal point of view it has always meant a lot, I met some of my oldest and dearest friends clubbing in Sunderland, some of which are so loyal that twenty years later they are still travelling miles so that we can stay in touch. Mr Mason,! Mr Whitfield!
Now, new bars, new restaurants and new club nights are springing up everywhere around our old favorites. NE LOVE have checked them out for you and thought we’d tell you a little about what’s hot south of the river.
INDEPENDENT - An old favorite that has brought loads of independent dance and indie music nights to Holmeside.
BAD BLOOD - Brand new bad-ass clothing store with labels to die for.
HOLY SMOKES - BBQ smoke house meat restaurant, bar—late license, great meats great beats.
HAZE - SOOOO exited to see this eight-man partnership blowing the roof off venues in Sunderland. Many moons ago I met what turned out to be some of my best friends clubbing there. Great to see the scene alive and kicking, Keep it up guys!
VERTUOSO EVENTS - Let the lovely Dayna organize your event leaving you free to enjoy/party.

‘SMOKIN’
So on a fairly miserable November evening we were Wearside bound check out the latest BBQ smoked meat joint Holy Smoke. Having arrived a little earlier than my partner in crime I get to stand at the bar enjoy a cold after work beer, chat to the friendly and knowledgeable bar staff, while checking the place out, and wow, it’s a mixture of neon, graffiti quirky little details and great music, this is where a lot of venues fall down, and obviously why Holy Smoke is packing them in to the bar long after the food is finished.
When M arrives we are quickly shown to our seats furnished with more beer and left to study the menu, amazing looking cocktails, some very cheekily named main dishes and sides. As I cant resist cheese I had to try the delicious jalapeno poppers, fabulous golden fried cheese, which I highly recommend, perhaps not if you are going to go for one of the ‘trash can’ sharers we went for a small and it was huge, we stayed away from the chili slaw and got the jalapenos separate, we ended up with creamy slaw as a side, fries in the middle of a huge platter of lamb, chicken and beef, all smoked, all tender and all seasoned perfectly.
This is a great addition to Sunderland’s, ‘new breed’ different, daring and delicious, a bit like them really HOLY SMOKES Batman lets get right over there! l

The eight brains behind Haze have been at it for 2 years in fact it is their 2nd Year Anniversary in December (Black Friday) and have been doing so from various venues around Sunderland (Independent, Port of Call, The Point, Attico) The whole thing started in Independent’s Room 2, where they had created the ‘Boom Room’ Status due to its intimacy and atmosphere. Soon they ventured downstairs to the Main Room to host bigger parties with artists such as Jozef K, SEFF & Cristoph and have held regular events throughout winter/spring months of 2015 with artists such as Clive Henry, Max Chapman, Enzo Siragusa B2B Seb Zito, Cuartero & Flashmob. Not to mention Terrace Parties in 2 venues within the city, Inviting guests to Port Of Call such as Darius Syrossian, Miguel Campbell & Denney. All 8 oversee all aspects of event management, artwork/design, artist liaison, resident djs etc and have invited Circus Liverpool’s and world renowned DJ, YOUSEF, for their 1st Birthday Party. And will soon be celebrating 2nd Year Anniversary with Nick Curly Presenting a Trust Showcase. 2015 sees a Boxing Day Special at The Point Nightclub where DJs Heidi, Deetron, Cristoph, Lewis Boardman & Chris Cue will feature for the biggest expected capacity turn out for a House & Techno based night in Sunderland.
2016 will see more showcases with major record labels, before an exciting summer of new ventures throughout the UK & Ibiza!l

Are there no ends to this ladies talents? Dayna has DJ’d in nightspots in and around the North East since she was 19, she also spent some time mixing it up in Ibiza, and Paris, France. Fundamentally a house DJ she now plays a very ecelectic set including 80s electronica, soul, funk, house and indy, ‘’as long as its all great music, I love doing it, I adore bands like the Smiths and the Cure and love dropping their tracks into the middle of a house set”
Now making her own waves on the hospitality and Events scene, Dayna worked for Sunderland Football Club and Durham County Cricket Club before setting up her own business Virtuoso Events. She has secured 100s of events in the short time she has been in business including weddings, conferences, exhibitions and charity dinners to name but a few. The venues selected always reflect the clients needs and ‘vibe’ and have included a lighthouse and a castle as well as the major venues in the North East such as Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham County Cricket Club and Seaham Town Hall.
Specialising in adding the wow factor to events Management and working on behalf of many businesses in the North East and all over the UK, Dayna’s clients include Metnor Construction, Prima Cheese, Seaham School of Technology, Northumbria University, Parseq, More Than, Durham County Council and the Shell Fleet Associaition. A major project Dayna secured and executed this year was a12 strong national mini conference campaign for the Liberal Democrats, 12 of these events took place all over the country from London to Edinburgh over a two week period.
Dayna is working with venues and hotels in major cities such as Birmingham where the Shell Fleet Association will hold their 150 strong annual event at the Botanical Gardens and staying at the opulent Hotel La’Tour.
Dayna has been promoting her live music event’ Uncovered ‘over the last year at various venues in the North East ,she blends the best tribute bands out there with local up and coming original bands, such as Social Room who supported the Clone Roses at the Point in Sunderland last May to a 550 strong Crowd. Other bands who have featured include
Kazabian, Kings of Lyon and Ha’waysis. “I want to bring people the music they want to hear at a snippet of the price and just on their door steps to boot! With fake festival and Glastonvery being so popular it’s a very on trend concept, plus the up and coming bands get to show case their talent too and often steal the show!
The next Uncovered is taking place at Seaham Town Hall on May 1st with head liners The Clone Roses and support from local lads Smokin’ Trace. For tickets and further info contact:

Ialways find a way to get the client what they need to make their event truly exceptional and have a flair for being able to pull things off for clients at the last minute, for example finding a venue to hold 200 people on Halloween a week before the date in question!!
I’m very pleased to be assisting a lovely lady with her charity dinner in aid of her daughter Ava who has an acute epilepsy, the dinner is taking place at Seaham Town Hall on the 13th February and I urge people to support and come along for a great night and helping a wonderful little girl Ava get better l

WHY OUTSOURCE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA? YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TAG AND A TWEET, A SHARE AND A LIKE. AND PEOPLE ARE STILL POKING. RIGHT?
Pretty much any business that wants to succeed these days needs a strong presence on social media. You probably know that already though. Question is, would you dry your own tea leaves for that cup of tea you’re thinking of having? Or roast your own coffee beans instead
of popping out for that steaming cup of coffee from the coffee shop around the corner? No, of course you wouldn’t. Because that isn’t your business. Unless you’re a tea or coffee producer reading this. Even so, you get the point.
Here at Buzz Social we, eat, sleep and breathe social media. And not just the odd Facebook profile or an occasional tweet. No, there is so much more than that. We know what’s working and what isn’t. We keep our finger on the pulse for the new trends so you don’t have to. We keep your voice consistent, re-enforcing your brand and engaging with both current and potential customers in a way that will make your business stronger than ever.
And we’re not gonna lie. It’s time consuming. Making sure your business has a good presence across many social platforms isn’t just a quick five minute job done once a day. To do it well, which we do, it takes much, much longer than that. And your strategy needs constant thought and reviewing. So why should you be doing that when you could be concentrating on developing your core business?
Answer: you shouldn’t.
Outsourcing your social media not only frees up your time, but also gives you all the expertise that you could ever need right at your fingertips. Or the end of a phone. It means you don’t have to worry about whether you’ve re-tweeted enough today or what photo to put up on Instagram
- we can worry about that for you. And if it hasn’t come across already, we love doing it. Simple as that.
As if all that isn’t enough, outsourcing your social media could actually save you money as well. Yes, you read that right. It could save you money. But how? Well, by outsourcing your social media you could reduce your staff expenses (you won’t need to hire that specialist social media person who’ll take up a whole other desk and demand a Christmas lunch) and not need to buy that specialist software you need to do the job effectively.
When you outsource your social media you’re gaining expertise, time and manpower. We started this article by asking why you would want to outsource your social media. The question now is - why would you not?

“...OF ALL THE JOINTS IN ALL THE TOWNS AND YOU WALK INTO MINE?”
IT’S TAKEN JUST OVER 10 YEARS FOR MITCH ‘BABYFACE’ MITCHELL TO REALISE HIS DREAM OF BUILDING, OWNING AND RUNNING HIS OWN BAR.
...AND HERE IT IS...
PROHIBITION CABARET BAR
“I grew up South of the Tyne so have roots there. The ‘Heed is really changing, for the better. I love the neighbourhood and community I’ve joined. The welcome and support has been tremendous so far.”
Mitch’s passion for all things Art Deco and vintage is clear to see, the bar pays serious homage to the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.
“I’m not one to do things by halves. I needed to get everything right, from the music to the decor. I wanted to create a space that transports my guests back to the 20’s. You’re in a side-street cabaret club built into a working railway arch, it’s such an authentic location. It just feels so right...and when the trains go over above the bar and there’s a jazz band on stage, well, it doesn’t get more authentic than that!”
With an emphasis on the Prohibition era of 1920’s America the bar creates a unique space that provides a beautiful purpose built stage fit
for all manor of acts: “I built the bar to showcase the best performers the region (and beyond) has to offer. Magicians, hypnotists, sideshows, poetry, spoken word, story telling, burlesque, traditional cabaret and music hall, drag acts, comedy, singing, dancing, musicians, ventriloquists, circus acts... just variety in general!” Plus, all Friday Night Cabaret entertainment is sponsored by fellow Art Deco styled, longestablished and very generous Tyneside Coffee Rooms at Tyneside Cinema so if you’ve got an act, get in touch! l

SIMON SAYS
Q FIRST OF ALL, HOW DID YOU DISCOVER INTERIOR DESIGN AND WHERE DID YOU STUDY?
I always had some direction to where I am today, I studied Fine Art, Sculpture at Leeds Uni and then, whilst working in various bars to pay the rent, I thought I’d design them instead of work in them! So I did a BTEC at Newcastle Art College in Interior Design. From there on I’ve worked my way up the ladder in various design companies from Associate, Director and now owner of my own firm.
Q IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO YOUR IDEAL VENUE?
Tough one, I wouldn’t like to say.
Q WHICH PLACES HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH RECENTLY?
I’ve been involved in various aspects of projects, these being; Allards, Tynemouth/ Coastline Fish & Chips, Blyth/ Bonbar & 467, Newcastle/ Canteen & Cocktails, Newcastle/ Seaham Hall: Byrons Bar/ Ozone and the Spa/ Adrianos, Jesmond/ Popolo, Newcastle there are others on the go which I cant talk about at the moment.
Q WHAT’S THE NEXT PROJECT ON THE HORIZON?
I’ve just pitched for two hotels and four restaurants/bars so watch this space! However, Allards in Tynemouth is a work in progress, we’re knocking through to next door, it has some very nice bespoke design touches which I can’t wait to see completed.
Q IN YOUR SPARE TIME, WHERE DO YOU GO AND WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX?
I’m very much a family man but I can always make them follow me into a restaurant or café to check it out over a cup of tea and cake. Very rock and roll!
I do like to travel with my clients and check out new cities to see what’s going on: Leeds next week and then London the following week. Apart from that music, film, art and reading.
Q FINALLY, DOES YOUR HOME REFLECT YOUR WORK AND CAN WE GET A TOUR? WE’LL SHOW YOU OURS IF YOU SHOW US YOURS!
Ummm, that’s a good question. Give me a year and well see! There are so many objects/ designs that I want yet never have the time to instigate into my own home. However, your question has prompted my wife to give me a kick up the backside! l

FUTURISTIC
Festivities on the cards
You must have been very good this year as this festive season as you are being given the gift of Love with a capital L! New positive beginnings are linked around matters of the heart so expect butterflies as this is pure true love that is being offered to you, you will struggle to keep the smile from your face. You really have been through the mill this year, carrying everyone else’s burdens and it has taken its toll on you physically, mentally AND emotionally. It’s coming to an end now and this month should allow you to shed the responsibilities and baggage that others have piled upon you this year.
Not much fun enjoying the festivities this month Scorpio, its time for you to be practical and stay focused on matters in hand and you really need to watch your spending, don’t buy lavish gifts for loved ones this year. This isn’t a bad thing, as you will reap rewards for this in the future.
Expect, chaos, confusion and drama, but before you run off screaming, let me assure you that this is actually a blessing in disguise; the universe never takes anything away from us without giving back, so this upheaval will actually be very beneficial.
Its like you have the Midas touch this month, everything you have been working on is about to pay dividends! Santa brings success in all areas and a real traditional Christmas is to be expected. Relax, sit back on your throne and enjoy the high life this month, you are the king of the castle!
Contentment, nurture and emotional security are in abundance for you during the festive period. Being around those you love and spoiling them and this is exactly what is in store this Christmas. Love and hugs are all on your menu and a truly wonderful time for you to be surrounded by those you care for.
A bit of a sombre time ahead, a time of looking back at what once was, there will be a tinge of sadness linked to this, as there always is when letting something or someone go, but you will know that you have done the best thing for all involved. This New Year will bring a new start and much needed clarity.
a very emotional Christmas for you this year, but in a good way. This month you will be taking stock of what has gone on in the past year and you will be feeling very blessed and balanced. You have love, loyalty and are surrounded by those you love. Make peace with your past and look to the future with hope and optimism.
Remember that every ending IS a new beginning! Yes, there will be a sadness but its the end of a cycle, that period of your life is over and Santa brings better. A deep, more satisfying year is ahead of you, just try and accept this transition as a gift. Its time to shed the old and bring in the new!
You are tying yourself in knots and filling yourself with anxiety and confusion, things ARE NOT as bad as they seem, you are over thinking stuff and hanging on to so much fear, frustration, its exhausting so give yourself a break and stop blaming yourself, relax, cut yourself some slack, get out and celebrate.
You love this time of year and you like to show enthusiasm, but try and reel yourself in a little bit over this month, charging in and taking over is only going to get peoples heckles up rather than getting them to join in your excitement. Its like you are living in a Hallmark Christmas card this month. Harmony, happiness and family, the perfect textbook festive season is on the cards (literally). Celebrations perhaps even an engagement look set to fill your month l

CINDERS YOU SHALL GO TO THE BALL
BEEN A TOUGH YEAR LADIES & GENTS? TAKEN ITS TOLL?
Fear not, you may even have that special dress or suit, and perfect shoes, NOW give your face a gift and call on your very own fairy godmother: try FACE, Rachael, will visit you at home and will wipe away the last year, or five, using nonsurgical treatments. Anti wrinkle injections, dermal fillers and professional skin resurfacing treatments. Call Face for a free consultation, ssshhhhhhhh we wont tell if you don’t!!
NE Love decided that if HydraFacial is good enough for a baroness its good enough for us, lucky me, I got to try it at a Newcastle Hair & Beauty Clinic. The HydraFacial, promises clearer, more hydrated, younger-looking skin immediately. Really? Last time I went for a microdermabrasion treatment I was advised against it, the therapist thought it was to intrusive for my slightly sensitive skin. HydraFacial however prides itself on being just as aggressive—without the aggression. I had to see if it lived up to the hype.
I’m told that the treatment targets hyperpigmentation, oily/congested pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. Combining cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and antioxidant protection, for fewer wrinkles or spots and no downtime. Four steps to fab skin, sounds to good to be true? Lets do this!
As soon as I arrived I was introduced to my therapist and taken upstairs to the treatment rooms to fill in my medical questionnaire, soon after discussing my concerns about redness and dark spots Keighley decided to add a red LED light to my treatment to target inflammation, and then I settled in as she turned on the machine. By now I’m so relaxed I’m actually looking forward to it.
Firstly Kayleigh uses a small “deplaning” tool that opens up pores and sweeps the uppermost layer of makeup debris and dead skin cells away.
Next the peel, glycolic peels often leave your skin stinging for a few
minutes until they’re washed off, but not this one. The glycolic/salicylic acid peel is gentle and luckily for me it only created the faintest tingle. Step three, the strange part, the technician uses something called a vortex-extraction nozzle that acts as a vacuum. I can honestly say I have never come across anything quite like this. The sucking sound, while strange, makes this oddly soothing. This is then followed by the serum application, using the vortex-fusion tool, infusing an antioxidant-andcollagen-rich serum into the skin to promote elasticity and hydration. Its true I had immediate results, my skin was clean and glowing: and NOT red at all I didn’t even mind the makeupless walk back to the office. It’s been a week since my treatment and I’m noticing the benefits now every time I put my makeup on.
Honest opinion? My skin looks brighter and feels smoother, I even have a bit of a glow when I get up in the mornings. Bottom line: HydraFacial is the best no-side-effects-whatsoever treatment I’ve tried, but don’t take my word for it! Treat yourself l

SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE
I’M GOING TO HAVE TO PUT MY HANDS UP TO THIS ONE AND ADMIT I’M YOUR AVERAGE HAIRDRESSERS NIGHTMARE, FORTUNATELY FOR ME I DON’T HAVE THE AVERAGE HAIRDRESSER!
When Paul Clayton gets excited about a new hair product I know enough to listen and at Collective Hairdressing they had (collectively) been getting pretty excited about L’Oreal’s latest ‘miracle’ I had a sneaky peek of what it was all about at a Big Hair day event at the salon.
So what’s it all about? I hear you ask!
It’s a ‘haircure’ that cares for your hair like a manicure cares for your hands? Pro Fiber, is a long-lasting recharging haircare programme for damaged hair that starts in salon and is prolonged at home. Enriched with Aptyl 100 technology, with over seven years of research and with seven patents pending. The thing is that at Collective Hairdressing I cant get away with anything either, so as I fill in the questionnaire I have to tick the ‘honest’ boxes. Yes; to using home hair colours sometimes (well I get bored) Yes; to backcombing Yes; to using bands to tie up my hair, Like I said I’m a hairdressers nightmare!
Despite the fact that Paul knows all of my deepest darkest secrets (about my hair at least) he starts with my exclusive insalon consultation by Pro Fiber programme analysing the level of thickness and damage and then prescribing the perfect one for me. Explaining that there are three ranges designed for different levels of thickness and sensitivity and assuring me that I can achieve shiny and healthy-looking hair whatever my hair’s texture and level of damage.
There are three different Pro Fiber treatments Revive: for slightly
damaged hair, Restore to smooth damaged hair and Recover to strengthen very damaged hair. After Paul tests the elasticity of my hair, I’m all prepared to hear, she needs Recovery or even she’s beyond redemption when I hear that I need Restore, yey!
My treatment starts with the shampoo and a relaxing scalp massage Restore has a spicy, floral fragrance of sandal milk its heavenly followed by a special concentrate that can only be found in-salon which was applied to the damaged areas of my hair. Next the masque on top of the concentrate was massaged into the hair fibre using a professional layering technique.
When my hair is finally blow dried it looks thicker shinier, actually doesn’t look at all like the dull limp locks I arrived with. Pro Fiber doesn’t end there; at home you continue using the hair care programme with your prescribed shampoo, conditioner or masque. You use the re-charge booster every four shampoos as a substitute to your conditioner or masque and recharge the salon resurfacing effect yourself at home for up to 6 weeks.
I have only used the re-charge once but already my hair looks thicker and shinier, even slapped back in to a pony tail, but I have worn it down too and believe me that never ever happens! ProFibre try it you’ll like it!

YOUR VERY OWN SKIN PERSCRIPTION
Give your skin a gift this Christmas, or better still, treat a loved one to a skin consultation from the clever guys at Kiehl’s. TBH the actual consultation is free. There is a lot of science behind Kiehl’s, and history as it happens as they’ve been making products since 1851. The free skin analysis will determine a. what type of skin you have and b. what you need to perfect it. NE Love popped into meet the lovely (and single, ladies) Ryan; for a free consultation at their Blackett Street, city centre store. The consultation ends with your very own prescription for perfect skin. I’ve been using the products for just over a week now and my skin’s never looked better. I plan to positively glow this festive season l

LIFTING THE VALE
Ok so we had heard rumors, exciting ones, and you know us we just cant help ourselves! The Blue Bell, under new management? New food menu, new, well everything really. And so it was that we decided to pay a visit
Jesmond Vale is a beautiful part of the city, and the Blue Bell boasts big outside areas for having a beer and sunning yourself in the summer while overlooking the dene. The setting is idyllic, but it had been a while since our last visit.
Imagine my surprise to find out that it had been two and a half months since the new guys took over, there were already at least half a dozen friends seated at the bar and at tables either side of where we sat. After being there for just a few minutes I realise this shouldn’t come as a surprise at all, This new crew are some of the most professional guys we know, they have just migrated from the city centre to Jesmond that’s all, yey!
At first glance you wouldn’t think that much had changed but there are massive plans afoot, to refurb the inside and show local artists work on the walls, to landscape the outside and put a roof on one of the decked areas of the huge beer garden.
All this is of course great news and I’m looking forward to it, but sensibly they have started with a new kitchen and a new chef.
Now you can enjoy some exotic spirits, cocktails and even Prosecco by the glass! Sadly its still Stoptober and I’m not allowed to indulge, so I’m thinking ‘the food better be good! Good you say? well wow! I take a glance at the menu and I just don’t know where to start. There are great starters and snacks, Ciabatta’s, salads to die for, from beetroot and goats cheese to nectarine, walnut and grapefruit. Amazing sharing platters and a mains menu from classic fish and chips to twenty eight day aged marinated Ribeye with a choice of sauces.
Time to decide, for Michael marinated Camembert with crispy crostini, I love cheese and this came as a whole cheese, hot aromatic and
delicious. I jokingly say, ‘you can always tell a man by his muscles’ and promptly order muscles in white wine, cream and garlic sauce. They were fresh and tender, I often cook them myself so I think I’m a bit of a connoisseur, thank god I decided to say no to bread. Otherwise I would have mopped up every drop of the divine sauce.
Next we had decided on the ‘Sticky Icky Ribs, and for me the Mexican burger, my eight ounce burger came topped with melted Mexican cheese, chilli beef, onion rings, sweet and sour sticky chilli, jalapeno mayo, tomato and lettuce. As good as it sounds? And some, it melted in the mouth I could have eaten a plate full of the succulent chille beef on its own.
Being the renowned, self confessed food thief that I am, I had to steal a mouthful of the ribs too, dripping with barbecue sauce the meat was falling from the bone and they came served with cajun slaw and skin on fries, it seems these guys just cant put a foot wrong.
I’m not surprised that this new food menu has taken off like a rocket, this is pub grub? Wow! I’m now hearing tales of a legendary Sunday roast, Oh dear oh dear, please hurry up November so that I can go back to the Blue Bell and have a glass of red with a Sunday roast, or try out their fabulous cocktail menu I literally can not wait!
Oh and more bonus points, you can take your pooch too!! l

OMG WHAT HAVE WE GOT HERE, THIS IS GENIUS
Upon hearing about Mog on the Tyne I just wanted to dash out of the office and in to kitty heaven.
But! easy tiger you need to book, this you can do online for just £5 per hour and if you want to stick around your second hour is half price. Me being your proverbial cat woman, and armed with the knowledge that they serve gourmet sandwiches, great tea and coffee, and cake, oh the cakes are supplied by the delightful Pet Lamb Patisserie. So this particular Friday afternoon I was practically dragging Craig out of the office.
On arrival we met owner Katie, a cat, cake and music lover. She lives on a narrow boat and originally hails from the ancient city of York. She’s a lot Yorkshire and very friendly! They all are, but honestly what did I expect they are cat ladies (oh and gents) sorry guys but you know what I mean right? Obviously all lovely people. Brightly coloured hair, big smiles and great tattoos. I was considering asking for a job, but I realise that simply loving kitties isn’t enough and while they do take apprentices, their latest recruit is in fact a zoology student at the university. So we are greeted by lovely people and cats, cats everywhere, the place
is really funky too, I’m guessing that the main wall has been touched by the hand of the wonderful Casio, a local artist that we had the pleasure of working with at NE Love in the very beginning.
So I’m just going to have to come clean and fess up about why I haven’t been back yet
Dear all at Mog on the Tyne, I am writing to let you know that while I threatened to bring my office to your fine establishment and eat cake while writing the whole magazine from there, I realise now that this is impossible my heart has been stolen by Jaffa Cake.
I would be rendered incapable of doing anything except stare at him and feed him treats. I’m missing him already l

THE LONG
& THE SHORT OF IT
After the success of the city centre venue I thought that perhaps Longhornes had gone for a more low key affair on Osborne Road. I know Longhornes low key? What was I thinking, right?
As you may have already noticed there is no entrance from the front on the main road sided, BUT if you go round to the back my friends you’ll sure have a big surprise, in fact, if you go round to the back today you’ll never believe your eyes! Longhorns have done it again, the courtyard is full of rustic seating bright lights and to the right the ‘slaughterhouse‘ a really cool bar area that couples up as an overflow for the actual restaurant area.
Inside and upstairs the restaurant itself is surprisingly spacious but that’s the only other surprise because the staff are again attentive and the food is again outstanding. Even that’s no surprise really since it has been served up by one of our favorite chefs; John Nellist, he told me to try the ribs, if he recommends them we are having them!
We have them On The Board with - sliced Beef Brisket, pulled pork,
pork ribs, chicken wings, 2 Andouille Sausages and a “bad ass Beef Rib” (the beef rib has the bark on it which is the top layer of the rib where the beef rub is has been rubbed on before going into the smoker, as it smokes and cooks it gets full of flavour)
Also with the board came Seasoned Fries with our special chip dust, slaw, mixed pickles, hog rind, pit beans (BBQ beans with all he meaty goodness in) and a brioche bun toasted.
Food coma? OF course! Carbs? NO not really! l
