THE ART OF HAIR

2019 Has seen this talented group of individuals swell, not just in numbers but in confidence too. Supremely talented it would be understandable if there was an I in this particular team but in fact nothing could be further from the truth. NE Love have faithfully followed Paul's progress from the word go, in our very first edition 6 years ago.

The last 12 months has seen him gather together a team so talented that even we have lost count of the amount of prizes won by Collective Hairdressing. Its worth mentioning at this juncture that while Paul, Jack, Shona, Becca and Chloe all have their particular style character, fashion sense and all important sense of humour, this is a team that has gelled. Its lovely at last to chat to 'the boss man' and to hear him say. I have done it I have my team and it works!

Bored of topknots, messy buns and plain old ponytails? This is sure to add a much more colourful and rebellious look to your hair, without the commitment of lifelong ink on your body, show it off as much or as little as you want and whenever you want, if its undercut throw it up in an up-do. Feeling even more confident? Get the whole side shaved where you can show it off all the time. Have a secret in 2020 or just be a show off all of the time. EDITORS LETTER H

ELLO YOU LOT.

2020? obviously by the time you read this you will have had a few days to get used to the idea, but at the time of writing, I don’t know if I’m traumatised or elated, 2019 it’s been a year of both for the many not for the few. From a personal point of view it has been the saddest, with the death of my best friend, darling Suzi, who is no longer there to proof this letter for first time ever. So forgive me if it’s not up to the usual standard. I can hear her tutting at that comment from wherever she is now. Then there has been the birth of the lovely LOLA, that’s a game changer, you made me find my smile again welcome to the world little one.

But enough about 2019 its 2020 and while on a rant about that ridiculous “living my best life” phrase, News flash; It’s not a rehearsal so you pretty much better be! I came across, ‘bestlifeonline.com’ believe it or not, it had some fun stuff. Hilarious Predictions about 2020. Read on.

Human feet will become one big toe, ok, So apes will drive our cars for us, mmm, some apes drive for themselves. We will eat candy made of undies, yuk. C, X and Q will no longer be part of the alphabet, But we will have teleportation and telepathy. We will make it to Mars, and my favourite of all. No one will work and we will all be rich. Sound like 2020 to you?

I think perhaps the people that predicted these would like us to forget they had!

On a serious note we would like to wish you a healthy prosperous 2020 and as always to leave you with a something on which to ponder. “People never forget the way you made them feel” LOVE PASS IT ON J XX

IT’S A KIND OF MAGIC

Up close and personal with north east director Jamie Childs.

Here at NE Love, we ‘love’ a good success story, and what better example than superstar director Jamie Childs? Durham, born and bred he is responsible for some of the most iconic scenes in recent TV history, and his career is about to get bigger. We talk to Jamie about working on BBC’s ‘His Dark Materials’, introducing the first female Doctor Who, and upcoming projects set in the north east.

Your debut came with filming a competition entry for an ad with a props budget of £10. Were you always that resourceful?

I think being resourceful is one of the best skills you can have in film making. No matter what budget you are given you always try to make it look 10 times better if you can. When I started making short films and low budget commercials at the beginning of my career, I’d always take what little I had and think of the best ways to put that money, or lack of, on the screen. Even now when I work with a decent sized budget on a TV show I’m still thinking ‘how can I make this British TV show look like Hollywood?’ Your viewer doesn’t care about your budgetary constraints, they just want to see something so good it could be Spielberg, they don’t want any excuses! You can almost always make something for nothing, so if there are any aspiring film makers out there, go and pick up a camera anything you can get your hands on, then film your friends in your grandad’s house. It’s about the story, not the equipment.

We have heard on the grapevine that you’ve got a movie about the north east in the works! Can you give us a sneak peek of what it’s all about

I actually have a few in development. I’m always drawn back to the north east to tell stories, I grew up there so it’s a world I really know and understand, I always feel inspired by when I return home. Ihave a Western-style revenge story set in the late 1800s about the last man in England to be gibbeted, which I’m dubbing as a ‘north east western’. I also have a project which focuses on a kind of futuristic mining strike. It takes all the same themes that we know from the 1980s miners’ strike then puts them in a very tangible world that we can all relate to now.

You hold the distinction of being responsible for the very first adventure for the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker. What was that like and did you feel nervous taking on the role?

I was so excited about the idea of bringing the first female Doctor to the screens that there was no time to feel nervous. It all happened so fast, after I got offered the job, I was whisked away into pre-production in Cardiff and just got stuck straight in. Being out of the way in BBC studios Wales, you just keep your head down and focus on the job at hand. I wanted to do my best for Jodie and the production team. There was a lot riding on it for her and I wanted to just make her look good, not that she needed much help from me to do that!

/ NEL VE.CO.UK ELEVEN

It’s only a little secret that you’re leading the concluding episodes of His Dark Materials. Is it difficult to keep the tone throughout when working on a project with multiple directors?

The great thing about His Dark Materials is that the story changes so much over the 8 episodes that you can really add your own style to your episodes. My final two episodes probably veer into the most fantasy that the series has shown, and they are very different in tone from the first few episodes. I was kindly asked back to be the lead director on series 2, which involves me directing the opening and closing episodes of the series. This gives me much more control over the tone of the whole series, so that’s been a lot of fun!

What was it like shooting with the daemons - did you use puppets or completely VFX afterwards?

Shooting with daemons is great. We have practical puppets on set, each with their own puppeteer. They are great to help us block the scene, and the actors really get a feel for what the daemon will be doing when all is complete at the VFX end. This is essential to get the actors performances right on the day. Each puppeteer brings real character to the daemon they control and it’s no different from directing any other actor in the scene really.

Finally, what’s your favourite memory about growing up in the north east?

I have so many fond memories of growing up in the north east. Going fishing with my grandad down in Middlesbrough, I still do this TBH. Being with my mam and grandparents at our family home in County

Durham. I grew up in Shotton Colliery and I used to love riding around with my friends on our BMXs as kids, living in the moment it seemed like a new adventure every day. In fact my mining drama will follow some similar characters in a colliery village. I’m drawing on some fond memories with these characters. I never thought in a million years I would end up becoming a director and be able bring my own ideas back to the north east making shows that reflect my own childhood. I would like take this opportunity just to say to any aspiring creatives out there ‘you really can do what you want if you put your mind to it, it doesn’t matter where you come from. Use anything around you, stuff that inspires you. You have this story to tell and it’s all yours because nobody has had the same experiences as you. Your story is unique!

NE Love can’t wait to see what comes next for this down to earth ‘superstar’ director, Jamie Childs another north east success story l CHARLIE ELLIS

Any NE Love reader will be well aware that we never shied away from a difficult subject and sadly there are many, many of them out there.

There are the issues we struggle to admit to, the ‘I can’t talk about it’ stuff, and the issues that can really damage or destroy lives that grow to get out of control.

Edward Conn is a Belfast born therapist who has been living in the North East for over ten years. He specialises in fast, effective and practical ways to resolve complex life problems for his clients, but the practice of resolving addiction issues is his real speciality.... even though he doesn’t like THAT word...Addiction!!

In 2004 BBC1 aired a documentary called ‘Detox or Die’ made by then heroin addict and documentary film maker David Graham Scott who visited Edward to ‘cure’ him of his affliction...a fifteen year dependency on opiates. This is a gritty film and can be

watched on YouTube, it shows the horrible struggle David was suffering with. Back then Edward was known for using an African plant known to stop cravings for opiates called Iboga. The plant was used in religious ceremonies by The Bwiti Tribe of Gabon. It is safe to say that Edward has been far ahead in his knowledge and thinking for a long time....David Scott, is drug free at the end of the film and still is today.

Edward these days works as a more traditional therapist, trained in Transpersonal Psychotherapy...a gentle and spiritual approach to mental health he has continued to learn how to fix peoples lives which are damaged or defined by chronic cocaine, alcohol, or gambling problems. He sees his clients turn their lives around with an eight week program that he offers specifically designed by himself over fifteen years of practice.

Edward speaks confidently on why he thinks traditional

approaches don’t work, and how he has studied what is not working, to discover what does work.

“Someone who is abusing drugs never intended to become dependent, somewhere along the way they got lost. My job is to pave and deliver the way out for them...when they are ready and want to change.”

Q. But how can someone do this? ....we are always told ‘addiction is a disease’.

A. “This is part of the problem....they feel and are told that you are weak and helpless..... the focus is wrong. They need to be reeducated and supported. So I provide a bespoke service designed specifically for them” “It is a complex process, but one which I have simplified after 15000 hours of studying and listening to people!!”

“I don’t think anyone else is doing what I do in the way I do it. My clients are often astonished at how quickly they stabilise and stop using. It doesn’t matter if this is a £1000 a week cocaine habit or a gambling addiction...as long as they are ready for change”

Carl Jung the Psychologist tell us “in psychology one possesses nothing unless they have experienced it in reality. Hence a purely intellectual approach is not enough.”

At the time of making the BBC documentary Edward was supporting his then girlfriend, originally from the North East but whom he had met in London, she was a heroin addict from the age the age of 12 and homeless. Years later she would complete an access course and go on to attend University. Although no longer a couple, the depth of personal suffering he saw developed his drive to tackle the problem of addiction and has driven Edward in his pursuit to help others to this day.

Check out Edwards website to read statements from past, delighted clients. Human suffering drives his compassion and problem solving skills and his aim is to give you the quality of life you deserve. With clinics in Newcastle, Durham and Teesside his services are completely accessible. It’s time to put the dark days in the past and start a bright shiny new decade l

DECember MMXX TAROTSCOPE

Virgo: 2020 will bring about clear vision for you Virgo, the last 12 months have changed you hugely and the next 12 will bring you rewards for your personal labours. You will have a beautiful sense of personal peace and you will not be swayed by exterior chaos. Some may do a complete 180 in their lives as profound changes are being shown, so you could be packing up your desk and packing your backpack to travel to places that will expand your mind. Simplicity is key to a much more fulfilling life. You will move at a slower pace, see the world differently, your inner hippie is making your decisions rather than your logical mind. You are ready to turn on, tune in, and drop out.

Libra: As you are the sign of the scales, you are always craving balance Libra, and this year it looks to be your bank balance that holds the most importance. Financially you will gain success and security as the material wealth Gods are harnessing their power in your direction. New jobs, promotions, even starting your own business look likely, possibly even a win on the lottery. Yippee! I hear you cry, but stop for a moment and don't get too carried away, remember money is energy, and the most important factor is how you use this power, don't let it go to your head as you may well then lose things that are much more precious. Remember the old adage 'some people are so poor that all they have is money' Enjoy your good fortune but spend wisely.

Scorpio: Have you ever walked through a forest and thought that it seems to go on forever Scorpio? Well, this is what your 2020 has in store. At times you may feel like you can't see the wood for the trees, yet this is

just the universe setting you a challenge, how much do you want your intended goal? What are you prepared to struggle for? Don't let naysayers or your own negative mind sway you off course, as the trek may be treacherous but is going to be so worth it, you just need patience, passion and perseverance. Master the three P's and you will rise to great heights. Creative power and thinking could lead to some very valuable collaborations and connections. Keep your feet firmly planted on the ground while your head is in the clouds, imagine and inspire and you will pass any test with flying colours.

Sagittarius:

Stability and security are important to you Sagittarius, yet 2020 is going to make you question whether you have been settling for less than you are worth. I know you like to look on the bright side and feel very fortunate, yet do you think you will find your fortune while sitting in your front room.. So many opportunities are going to be presented to you, yet you may need to leave the nest and find your wings in order to make the best of them. Overseas travel could be connected to or enhance your work which will, in turn, enrich your life. Broaden your perspective and open your mind as you haven't even tapped into a fraction of your possibilities. Why settle for second best when you can be the best!

Capricorn:

As the new year takes hold so does a new you! In the past, like the mountain goat you needed to make sure your footing was secure before you would even think of embarking on anything, yet this year looks set to be a year of taking risks! Nothing is going to stop you Capricorn as you take life by the horns and discover a well-hidden sense of adventure.

You could be closing some doors and breaking down some new ones as toss security aside in favour of excitement and liberation. You are leaving old baggage at the wayside as you finally lighten your load and lighten up, it's almost like your inner child wants a second go and living and fun and carefreeness are your driving force. It's time to go out and play.

Aquarius:

Your time will finally come in 2020 Aquarius, as commitment, recognition and victory will fill your year. 2019 may have pushed you to your limits, yet there was a reason for this, you needed to build your courage and strength as you are now ready to take centre stage and shine like the star that you are. Your charisma and inner light are set to dazzle all who cross your path, so be prepared to be bombarded with offers, invites and there even may be a proposal… You are hot property and everyone knows it, remember your humility though as this whirlwind could take you to elevated heights, stay grounded and graceful.

Pisces:

This is the year that your perseverance pays off Pisces. You may have thought that all of your recent efforts have been in vain, but the universe has been cultivating your crop and this year you will have an abundant harvest! Any areas which involve teamwork have been given the Midas touch and your dreams will come to fruition when you and your tribe work together. The last couple of years have seen you treading on shaky ground, but now you are being given a solid foundation which will springboard you to heights you have only dreamed of. Your vision will become clear, you feel supported and your dreamy destiny is calling. Three is the magic

NEL VE.CO.UK / EIGHTEEEN

number so maybe March will give you a taste of what is to come. Sit back and allow your rewards to come to you, these are definitely well earned.

Aries: Aint no stopping you now, you're in the groove Aries. 2020 sees so many doors opening for you that you may get bamboozled as to which one to walk through, the answer will be the one which has heart. You can be known to use your horns to charge ahead yet this year all you have to do is allow your emotions to guide you. Things will feel softer, gentler, easier and more peaceful than you have encountered in recent years, and although this might feel a little alien to you at first you will eventually get used to this slower-paced way of life and actually start to enjoy it. There is safeness coming connected to your feelings and this is going to allow your well-hidden romantic side to be shown as your usual fire is shown to be replaced with flowers. Some of you may even decide to elope as your sentiments are now driving you rather than your ambition. Wedding bells may ring, falling madly in love will allow your barriers to fall away as instead of your usual armour you will be more swept up in the feelings of amore.

Gemini: 2020 is giving you clear vision Gemini, so let's get your head clear too. The past has seen your thoughts keeping you prisoner, this year they are going to make you a philosopher. Your mind is complex, so many things you have told yourself are not the truth, this year is time for long-awaited clarity, it's not going to drop from the air or be given to you, you will actually find, that like Dorothy, you had the power all along. You are not the voice of your mind, you are just the person

TAROTSCOPES

that listens to it! Fine-tuning and letting go of the part of you that wants to create melodrama, will release you into freedom and true happiness. Forget your need to hold everything together and see what happens when you let everything fall apart, you don't need to figure everything out, you need to cut yourself some slack and allow life to unfold around you. This year you need to experience, to just enjoy the ride and transcend the limiting beliefs of the ego, be an observer, be excited rather than anxious, its time to let go and enjoy the adventure.

Taurus:

This coming year is ushering you to look forward rather than back Taurus. Nostalgia and harking back to the 'good ole days' has stopped you from embarking on the good new days and you have many coming, all you need to do is leave the past where it belongs and embrace your present. Its a time of rebirth for you, of learning to do things differently, of trying something new, you are known for being stubborn yet you are being called to open yourself up to new experiences, to take your rose-tinted yesteryear glasses off and see how the world and you have changed. No more what was, it's now what is and what can be, the world is full of possibilities and opportunities crying out for you to dive right in, but you must look forward rather than back. There is a reason why a windscreen is much bigger than the rearview mirror. Fabulous things await, you will always have memories, but this year is about making more. Your future is calling, pick up the phone.

Cancer: The Beatles sang about wanting a revolution Cancer, in 2020 you are having your own personal one! You are making that many changes that you may

have others not recognising the person you will become, this has been a long time coming and its almost as if you have finally discovered your wings. You will feel brighter, lighter, and much more colourful as your vibration skyrockets and you focus on bigger and better things than you have so far experienced. You may have to sever some ties, but please see these as shackles that were only keeping you stuck and stagnant, don't spend a second mourning them as you have bigger fish to fry and wings to fly. You may relocate to another country, change your image, anything your beautiful crazy mind can imagine is there on the table for you. You will experience a full-on metamorphosis as you become who you were truly born to be. Are you ready to embark on this exciting evolution?

Leo: If you are not in your heart 2020 is going to be hard Leo. Life is not a game where you have to be the winner, its the participating that is the most important. Give yourself a break from your own strict regime and rules and allow yourself to be flexible and have fun. You don't stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing. Lighten up on yourself and others, allow your inner fire to warm you rather than burn you, the expectations you set yourself are too high and only come from your need for security, yet they more than likely are the cause of your feelings of seclusion. Take the pressure off, let your inner light shine, forget what others will think and allow yourself to be in joy rather than control. Empathy will bring enjoyment, laughing will lead to loving and allowing your emotions to guide you will lead you to a much happier you. The choice is yours. The question this year will make you ask yourself is 'Is it more important to be happy or is it more important to be right?' l

LIVING PROOF

From an early age she was either nursing sick animals and caring for others. Raised in a dysfunctional family, which she fondly refers to as ‘colourful’ It’s not surprising that she pursued a career in counselling those with addictions, mental health problems, anxiety and confidence issues.

Having spent years treating people using traditional methods Dionne felt that it was neither fast enough nor functional, then she discovered Marissa Peer. “Although her words resonated with me, I was slightly sceptical about this seemingly ‘magic cure’. My addiction was food, I was obsessed with my weight, I knew it was unhealthy, I had spent thousands of pounds on diets, weight loss classes and fads all the while self depreciating thoughts led me further in to

self loathing, guilt and deeper in to my addiction”

“In the end and was at my wit’s end, family members, my husband and friends were all as fed up as my with my compulsions, eventually I booked a session of RTT”

‘During my first session, I was amazed at the revelations and insights that came up. Amazingly it wasn’t actually about food, but like with all addictions, I had used food as a crutch to mask internal pain. I was taken back to the moment when my false belief systems were implanted. New thought patterns were instilled and I let go of my old thinking HABITS. After just one session I felt amazing, years of conditioning had been lifted, I was empowered and within four weeks I had lost 21lbs. I 100% believe in this method, I am living proof. I trained with Marissa and I am proud to be able to offer this ground-breaking treatment to others! l

Fitness fanatics looking for a workout with a difference will have access to two storey glass-fronted studios, as well as a state-ofthe-art health and fitness suite, complete with the latest gym and training equipment.

The City Baths will also offer a jam-packed calendar of more than 130 exercise classes per week including Fusion’s bespoke HIIT & functional training classes, INTENCITY and popular Les Mills classes. Sanctuary seekers can escape winter’s chill in the new poolside sauna before heading down to embrace a little ‘me time’ in the new luxury spa and treatment rooms.

Final preparations are also being made to bring the building’s much-loved Turkish baths back to life – and Newcastle will soon be home to one of only a handful Victorian baths still in operation in England.

Memberships range from £30 - £90 – and include everything from ‘Gym and Swim only’ to ‘Premium Anytime’ which includes unlimited use of the fitness suite, swimming pool and Turkish baths as well as unlimited group exercise classes l

COOL FOR CATS

CAT PEOPLE?

There’s no denying cats get a bad rap. While dogs are exalted for being ‘man’s best friend’, cats are polarised as the enemy. Devious or spiteful folk are known as ‘catty’ or told to ‘put the claws away’. It’s like there’s a scale – we think of cats as either friend, foe, or Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. But why don’t we give our furline friends more love?

Cats face a massive PR problem. Unlike dogs – who depended on human hosts for food – cats were domesticated in a different way, encouraged by Neolithic villages in the Middle East to fetch to keep crops and food stores safe from rats and other vermin. This taming of cats has only partly removed them from the wild, and household cats share much more traits with their pre-domestic ancestors than that of dogs in the desire to hunt and patrol territory.

Karen Hiestand, a vet and trustee of International Cat Care says: “Dogs and humans are very similar and have lived together a long

time. It has been co-evolution. With cats, it is way more recent.” Research on cats’ emotional tendencies has lagged to that of dogs’ but has caught up in recent years. The findings indicate cats’ sociability with humans is quite a complex spectrum, dependent on factors such as genetics and socialisation within the first six to eight weeks of their lives. Domesticated cats can fall anywhere on this spectrum; some keep a relative distance, while others positively thrive with human company.

Cats communicate more through body language compared to dogs. Dogs have won our affections because they have learned to mimic infants’ expressions which triggers a desire to nurture in their human owners. Research carried out at the University of Portsmouth found that dogs have evolved to develop muscles which raise the inner eyebrow, something not present in their wolf ancestors.

NEL VE.CO.UK / TWENTY6

Unfortunately for cats, they do not have such a muscle, meaning their stares can look cold and unfriendly. Nevertheless, a slow blinking stare, the type that you get from miles across the room, isn’t a sign of disdain – it’s their way of expressing closeness, and turning their heads to one side doesn’t mean they’re giving you the cold shoulder, but that they feel relaxed.

Our historic inability to see cats’ temperament as different to dogs is part of the issue. “Humans’ expectation bias for the animal impacts their behaviour,” says Kristyn Vitale, researcher of cat

behaviour. By trying to force cats to behave more like dogs – and expecting them to shower us with attention – we push them away from their natural behaviour.

But relaxed cats make good friends. “They want their water and their food and their sleeping arrangements and their litter tray just right, and when they are right, they’re able to start exploring those social bonds.” Don’t misunderstand cats - the next time your cat is giving you ‘Kristin Stewart on the red carpet’ evils, don’t fret. It just means they’re happy to see you l

PRINT IS

As the nights draw colder and the darkness further encroaches, I’m taking refuge indoors while I wait for Santa to come down my chimney. Naturally, this means more time to think (I never stop!) and in my musings, I’ve opened myself up to a little experimentation (no, not that kind of experimentation, dirty beggars!) This experiment involves subscribing to a print magazine that you can… wait for it… physically hold.

Before the advent of the digital media, and before the internet gods purged us of the delights of having something tangible to hold, print was king. This was the golden age – a time where you didn’t have to accrue countless logins or passwords (some pinched, some paid for) to gain access to your favourite magazines. And non-existent was the pain of forgetting to cancel your free trial to Gardener’s Weekly, resulting in a year-long subscription when all you wanted was to read one article on how to plant a potato.

On that day when my first issue was delivered by an actual human being – my neighbour, having collected it on my behalf – I couldn’t help but feel a flutter of excitement. My heart smacked with anticipation against my chest as I hurried to the door, greeting the sallow-skinned lady in my typical weekend attire of a Batman dressing gown in slippers to match (thank you, Primark). She curiously looked me up and down as we conversed passionately about the weather and the clocks going back, while I prayed a swift breeze wouldn’t strip me of my dignity. And that’s when I

realised – this is more than just a magazine, this is people connecting.

The fetching is only the first of the little rituals that attend the reading of a real printed magazine. One must then steam a cup of coffee or put the kettle on for a cup of tea (bag first, heathens), before slumping in a chair. One reviews the latest celebrity to adorn the cover and then plunges inside to find out why Gwyneth Paltrow rubs oranges in her eyes to cleanse her soul. The glossy finish of the pages and the luxurious smell of paper satisfies the senses in a way that digital newsfeeds could never. Not to mention the free sample of perfume that you will generously smother yourself in for your next date – winner winner, chicken dinner.

There’s something pleasingly fixed about reading an article in print – it’s a settled matter. I won’t find out if Gwyneth Paltrow’s soul has been cleansed until the next edition. My magazine isn’t intent on updating 24/7. I can rest undisturbed. In a frenetic world where attention spans are diminishing, where you can’t even finish an article without ads scurrying across the screen, or a message or reminder popping up because, there is a glorious stillness to reading print. A world free from the Silicon Valley gremlins trying to select your news or steal your data

And so, if you’re reading this, here are three words for you:

NAST, SAID THAT CONTENT ON A TABLET OR IPAD CANNOT MATCH THE EXPERIENCE OF THAT “MAGAZINE MOMENT”.

“IT IS VERY HARD TO REPLICATE THE PHYSICAL ALLURE OF A LUXURY MAGAZINE ON OTHER PLATFORMS,” HE SAID. “[IT IS] SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SHEEN OF THE PAPER, THE WAY THAT THE INK SITS ON THE PAGE, THE SMELL OF MONEY AND DESIRE THAT WAFTS OFF THE PAGE. READERS MOVE INTO A DIFFERENT MODE WHEN THEY ENGAGE WITH A GLOSSY. ADVERTISERS UNDERSTAND THIS.”

SECONDS WITH

Q. What a difference a year makes right Lisa? When we last spoke a year ago you were in the throws of getting the place ready to go. Just twelve months later not only are you well established but you are a training academy. Apart from the obvious (talent) Tell me all about this, how and when did this all come about? Was it part of a master plan?

A. Always yes, I have worked with Regis and Schwarzkopf all of my working life, and part of that umbrella was Vidal Sassoon classics, for which I trained all over the UK then because I started working in hair replacement, a training academy for hair extensions, hair styling and makeup was a natural progression for me, because of the huge space here it was a natural progression.

Q.You have well and truly made your mark on the wedding industry, but you are obviously very interested in the fashion industry. There's a cross over these days that didn't exist previously how does that translate in to what you do?

A. For me the fashion/wedding industry cross over happens regularly on various magazine shoots, the main one being Belle Bridal where Karen, the editor lets me have full reign, meaning of

course we can be a little more adventurous bringing fashion alive, or sticking to a more classic. Its lovely to have that freedom.

Q.Does anyone ever just walk through the door and say, here I am do what you like? If they did would you enjoy it?

A. I get a lot of brides that let me do what I want, I love it when they show me the dress and tell me about the venue then let me get creative. Its what I most enjoy about my line of work, getting together with them and both of us throwing ideas around.

Q. Any professional insider tips on hair and makeup trends for 2020. Like luminous liner or crazy curls?

A. Yes a lot of bright oranges and pinks are on their way, with golds and bronzes in full flow for the summer. Corkscrew curls and long Afros are going to be big too, fear not I can create these with hair extensions, hair pieces and the newest method express-tape extensions which can create length and volume in minutes.
