Welcome to 166 Martin Lane. This home is a good home, filled with many happy memories. I have lived in Cameron Station since 2000, first in a condo and in 2005 I purchased this home. I knew I wanted to stay in Cameron Station when I transitioned from condo to townhome. Cameron Station is not just a neighborhood close to the Metro and Old Town Alexandria, but it is a community with yard sales twice a year, Halloween parties for the children, reading groups for the adults, pick-up basketball games in the community center, and multiple opportunities to socialize with a variety of homeowners – the young family to a recently retiree transitioning from work to relaxation!
When you move in, you will love how quiet the street is. Yet when you go out for a walk to the neighborhood restaurant for a bowl of gelato you will be greeted with waves, at first, but soon those waves will turn to conversation, as your neighbors become your friends. I will miss the friendships my family has made whilst living on Martin Lane. I moved here a single person and I leave with a family.
The walls of this home have seen so much. There are five of us that live here now and, in full disclosure, this is why we have to move on. It is time for us to find a home with one more bedroom! Over the years, I have taken so much pleasure in picking the paint colors, updating the flooring, and making this house into our home. This home bustles with life – whether it is helping my eldest daughter with her homework at her study nook, playing “choo-choo” with my son in his room, watching my newborn start to smile at her surroundings, or unwinding on the deck with my husband after the kids’ bath time in “Mama and Daddy’s tub that makes bubbles” -- and its walls have more than merely providing shelter.
Our home, with our memories has so much to give to its new owners. Late night deadlines, in my case for a doctorate, can be met behind the French doors of the office; telling stories around the fireplace on chilly nights, game night on the floor of (our daughter’s) room; making pots of gold for a preschool St. Patrick’s Day party at the dining room table; friends and family mingling around the main floor for brunches, happy hours, and dinner parties; pulling bikes out of the garage for a ride around the pond in the park.
I could go on with what we did in each room and throughout the neighborhood, but I will stop here. When we leave, we will take our things with us, wipe down the walls, and clean the carpets, but we will leave behind a house that you can fill with your own love and make it your home. Welcome to a delightful place to create your own memories within its four stories and throughout the wonderful community of Cameron Station.
