This is Derg.

He is a hound dog with very floppy ears.

He loves people, especially kids.

They are the perfect size for him to lick their cheeks!

This is his dad. His name is Milo.
Milo adopted Derg and they became best friends.

They did everything together.

They slept, played fetch,

and even visited grandma together.

But sometimes when they went for a walk, Derg felt like something was missing.

One day, they met a girl named Alice.

Milo and Derg loved everything about Alice. She was kind, funny and gave Derg lots of treats and snuggles!

When they became a family, Derg wore his very first bowtie! He

was so happy.
The three of them did everything together!
They slept, played fetch,

ate and even visited grandma together.

But sometimes when they went for a walk, Derg still felt like something was missing.

One day, Milo and Alice came home and they were smiling from ear to ear.

They showed Derg a picture of a baby in Alice’s belly and told him he was going to have a sister. He couldn’t believe it! He was going to be a big brother!

As time passed, and the baby grew, Derg loved resting his head on Alice’s belly.

He loved feeling his sister dancing and moving around in there.

Finally, Milo and Alice brought home a baby girl. Derg was so excited to finally meet her!

name was Gigi.

Her

Derg knew this is what his family was missing.

He kissed Gigi on the cheek every day to say good morning.

He would cover her with a blanket when she was cold.

He crawled with her when she learned to crawl.

And he ran with her when she learned to run.

As Gigi grew bigger and bigger, Derg and Gigi did everything together.

They slept, played fetch,

ate and even visited grandma together.

When they went for long walks,

Derg loved to show the world his family.

Dedication

The idea for this book began when our dog, Derg, would lay on my belly when I was pregnant with our daughter. We cherished those moments and hope our daughter will do the same with this book.

To my Husband: Without you, this story wouldn’t be possible. Without you, this book wouldn’t exist. You helped and encouraged me every step of the way and it means the world to me.

To my Daughter: Your best friend loved you before you were even born. I hope you always remember that through this book.

To my Family: There are pieces of this book for many of you because you all mean so much to me.

To my Illustrator: You brought my vision to life and I can’t thank you enough.
