FROM THE EDITOR'S CHAIR ď Ž By Bob Twigg
I am very pleased that several folk in the South Midland centre are "remaking" trials irons. Messrs, Ayres, Balsillie (is that spelt right?), Bull, Clarkson, Messenger and Wigg have built really nice "modern" Pre 65's! They all look splendid with great engineering. I remember Bryan Messenger saying that the price of second hand BSA Bantams has risen remarkably since riders were seeking a lighter bike for the Brit' bike class. Incidentally, Paul Balsillie's son (I've forgotten his Christian name) is an ace sidecar motocrosser, look out for his name in the results! Nice to see Maria Costello doing so well on the "cold hard road" (that's road racing Ma)! Not long ago. There were several trials riding ladies in the South Midland centre. We still see a few but it would be good to see more. Remember Maria Conway? The Conway family were a good advert for trials both here and Nationally with four of them representing the centre in the Inter Centre team trial one year. So well done John, Sean, Maria and Tom and of course Dad, where are you now? There are moves in the South Midland centre by the trials sub-committee to ensure that championship rounds will not "clash" with any other trials on the same day. Sensible I suppose, though I see no reason why a Pre 65 or twinshock event would be refused a permit on the same day. The venue of championship rounds can make a difference to the entry, some riders seem reluctant to travel many miles to attend events. The trials sub-committee are keen for the trials championships to continue and be well supported, so, prospective "aces" get yer' entries in and make it a good series! The expert cup goes back to 1936 with some famous names on it, there's your chance. The Tough Ten trial at Round Rocket in July went off well again with a good quality entry including some very good National and International riders. Ted North made a good job of finding enough observers, now that is a difficult job, well done Ted. By the way, would someone like to do that job in 2020 as Ted will be cutting back on his work load, he has to find enough observers to not only mark the punch cards but also to observe the long sections often needing two or three "volunteers". It is nice at that event to see the top three in each class on the podium and hear the cheers of the crowd, well done to all who helped at the trial or just came to watch. Enjoy your riding. Andy Wood writes.... GTSA deservedly received much praise for the British Masters Grass Track Championship. Tremendous effort had been put in to stage this event and they were rewarded with some fine weather and an enthusiastic crowd of spectators. Grass Track South East has two more events this season the eagerly awaited Frittenden Flyer at the end of this month and to finish the season on a high note the Centre Championships will be run by Maidstone Aces. 3

Kent Kings Speedway ď Ž By Neil Emmott
Kent Kings had a very successful evening at Redcar Speedway on August 15 when Drew Kemp Lifted the Under 19 British Speedway Championship Title and Kent's Number 1 Anders Rowe finished third. Jordan Jenkins finished sixth and Dan Gilkes scored a respectable 5 points finishing lower down the order. Kent's Drew Kemp and Anders Rowe added to their U19 success with a win at the National League Pairs Final at Sheffield on Sunday 25th August. Full report of how they got on will be in the next issue of TSM. Kent missed out on their second piece of Silverware when they finished third in the Silver Ski Fours. After winning Results and fixtures: Date Monday 29th July Monday 5th August Monday 12th August Sunday 18th August Monday 19th August Monday 26th Aug (Bank Holiday) Monday 2nd September Monday 9th September Monday 9th September Monday 16th September Monday 23rd September Monday 30th September Monday 7th October
the opening round hopes were high. However the injury hit Kings dropped to third overall in the final standings. Final result was: Isle of Wight Warriors 81, Plymouth Gladiators 76, Kent Kings 65, Breem Construction Stars 39. Kent have been rocked by a double-blow when they were advised that both Jordan Jenkins and Nathan Ablitt have decided to take a break from speedway for the remainder of the 2019 season. Kent Team Manager Chris Hunt moved swiftly to secure the services of 15 year old Jake Mulford to replace Ablitt. Jake, who hails from Norwich is also a very accomplished Grasstrack rider and was recently runner-up in the British 250cc Championship. A replacement for Jenkins is yet to be found so rider
Jake Mulford replacement or the guest facility may have to be used in the interim.

it got more slippery. The ditch set around a crater on section eight gave Bob Wort three cleans but he was off line on his third lap losing three. Terry Tidbury on his Scorpa lost a couple of twos and a three on lap four when the rear wheel lost traction. The ninth section in the corner of the field on the rocks and rubble saw AJS mounted Adrian Mountain lose three of his nine marks on this section. There was more rubble at the last section with a tree trunk and a slippery bank to contend with. In the sidecar class Tig and passenger Bob Methel managed the rubble but had a fives up the slippery bank. On the sportsman route Nick Turner was right on line with three cleans though Alfie Miles on the same route had a one, two and a three. The next Normandy event is the Brian Fowler Memorial Trial on the 8th September at Faygate tip near Horsham.

Normandy's Camping Weekend ď Ž By Shaun Fowler A club trial on the Sunday formed part of the Normandy club's annual camping weekend at Sethern Farm Dunsfold. The concrete wheel formed part of the first section with Elliot Tickner starting his day with a five on his first lap but older brother Richard got away with a dab. Neil Varney couldn't match his first lap clean on the concrete slabs at two losing a dab on laps two and three. 18
The going was decidedly slippery for many parts of the course but Doug Johnson had four excellent clean rides on his twinshock in the trees down and up a slippery gully of section three. The fourth section was among the fir trees. Austin Johnson had a dab here on his first lap but followed it up with three cleans. James De-Merist had a nice tidy clean on his first lap at section six uphill over a tree trunk but could do no better than a three when

History Making Season ď Ž By The Editor Maria Costello concluded her outstanding year of modern machinery road racing by claiming a brilliant 10th place at the fonaCAB Ulster Grand Prix. She rode the Mark Coverdale Paton SC1 to a brilliant 10th place finish with an average speed of more than 110 mph and a best lap of more than 112 mph in the Castle Mall Supertwin race. The impressive performance completed an outstanding year for Costello, who made history by becoming the first female competitor to compete in both the Sidecar TT and Lightweight TT races at the Isle of Man in June. Despite the terrible weather that disrupted the event it saw her racing both the sidecar and solo on the same day. With passenger Julie Canipa, she claimed a best and hugely encouraging 17th place onboard the LCR Kawasaki F2 sidecar, an impressive result considering they had only done four practice laps together. Following this Maria then took to two wheels finishing in 24th place on the Paton in the Lightweight TT. All this followed the International North West 200 where she matched her best ever finish of 13th place in the MCL Insuretech Supertwin race, won by Stefano Bonetti, who became only the fourth overseas rider ever to win it. A great finish to a special and historic season has been made possible thanks to the input 48
Photo by Tommy Vennard Photography and belief received from Mark Coverdale. He became the main sponsor through his company Frog Property Developments, which included the opportunity to race his Paton SC1 race bike. Maria said: "What a season it has been racing two and three wheels on the roads, and it feels so good to finish on another high. We all know that in real road racing there are so many variables that even hard work and determination cannot always succeed: the weather really did its best to disrupt our plans, so I'm absolutely delighted with the results. This season has been a dream come true and I want to thank my main sponsor Mark, all my sponsors who stand by me and enable me to go racing and my team of Matt, Chris, Jacqui, Stephen and William for helping me achieve my best year yet. Also thanks to everyone who has supported us this season and massive thanks to all my amazing sponsors: Mark Coverdale – Frog Property Developments Ltd, NGK Spark Plugs Ltd, Metzeler, Mac Tools UK, Rock Oil, Kawasaki, MJW Developments, H&S Construction, Premier Display, CP Fabrication & Welding, Nitron Suspension, RST Moto, Arai Helmets, Knox, Sports insure, Premier Bodyworks, QuinnsThePrinters. com, Jap4 Performance, GB Racing, Racebikebitz, DR Moto, Racing batteries, Progrip, Pipercross, Probolt, Radicool, Stomp Grip, HG Concepts, Christian Baker, DnG, Wollaston Therapy Centre, Hel Performance, Sporttape, Rex Physio, Barry

She would also like to congratulate all the people who make the road races happen – the clubs, organisers, volunteers, medical teams, marshals and spectators who stood in the rain I applaud you for everything you put in to the sport that allows me to enjoy my passion. Maria will once again be campaigning the Beugger Racing Paton 500 she claimed a podium finish on in 2016 and will also be racing a Drixton 350 Honda K4 for the CSC Team
On the Rocks By Jim Connor
Hookwood Trials Club ran their annual TVTC rocky trial at the popular Hookwood Trials Centre near Guildford in Surrey. Clerk of the Course Stuart Packham set out a course consisting of four laps of ten section utilising rocks, mud and banks at the venue. There was a real tussle in the experts with SSDT veteran Phil Wiffen and Scott Hallett level pegging all the way to both finish on one mark lost. Scott who uses Hookwood as his practice ground. Was unlucky this time to miss the win by Wiffen going further clean. Hallett had a dab on the turns of section two where Wiffen went clean all the way to section nine before surrendering his dab. Tom McCabe went well to finish just a further one mark behind the leaders. Mike Rivett was outstanding to go clean in the inters closely followed by Steve Moore and Andrew Earnshaw. John Reeves was the star of the red route on 4 marks lost, followed by Brett Buckle and Colin Grist. Nick Everett blitzed the Yellow
Late news…. Maria narrowly missed out on another podium finish as she produced another great effort at the Isle of Man Classic TT Festival of Motorcycling. She pushed Jamie Coward all the way for the final podium spot before being pipped by the Yorkshire rider. However she took fourth comfortably ahead of Ireland Honda's Alan Oversby. Maria will next be competing on two wheels at the Goodwood Revival for BMW Group Classic in September.
route on 2marks lost with Phil Heptonstall very close behind on two. The only youth expert national rider Max Agar lost forty one but youth Inter Daniel Dabreo was totally outstanding to go clean over the entire event. Daniel continues to improve. Hannah Moore was runner up followed by Max Bird. Twickenham club member Luke Batten was another budding star who went clean. Luke is grandson to the well known Sue and Les Batten who were the mainstays of keeping the famous Twickenham Club moto cross meetings going over many years. Talented Freddy Amis finished not to far behind with Coben Brand making up the top three.
