Is it not interesting how many riders in World enduros are returning to two strokes, when the motocross world went over to four strokes we all thought it would be the death knell of the "strokers". Now the four strokes are still prominent in MX but in enduros riders are mounted on two strokes again. I have heard that repairing a four stroke racer can be a little expensive! In a May issue of TMX a report from Portugal on the enduro World championship showed big crowds watching the activities. ( Aren't the Brits doing well ) I seems to me that there is a lot less opposition to our sport abroad. Here there always seems to be someone objecting to motorcycle events. Comments like "this is ancient woodland", or "you are ripping up the earth", why can't people here live and let live? Very often in trials the land is probably only used once or twice a year. When quite a lot of English riders took part in the late Mick Mc Eoin's trail safari in the mountains of Western Ireland the locals always seemed to know where we had been riding that day. If you visited a pub one would say "you were up in the hills I know", (of course we were only in the bar for lemonade ) "cough, cough". There were hardly any grumblers, one farmer took a fence down so that we could ride an old trail. When our son rode there he was out for a ride with some Irish riders and a chap said that their bikes would damage the heather. Now, as you know the Irish are great at talking and one of them convinced the man that their bikes had special tyres that would not damage the terrain, he even suggested he could demonstrate this to the doubter, great talking I would say! What a great SSDT again, 283 riders setting out on a Highland adventure! Well done to all the riders from our three centres that finished the trial. There are several things in our motor cycle "careers" that we might regret, mine was that when you are young you are fit enough to ride for six days but with two kids we didn't have the money , now we've got the money but are not fit enough to do it. Returning to the subject of the land moaners , the land used by our club and one other (no names no pack drill) has been granted a "reprieve" after complaints by some local dog walkers , though we are limited by which bits we can use to try and keep them quiet. Luckily for us the landowner is a life long motorbiker. I seems to me that even if you own the land folk will still complain, are we becoming the Worlds biggest grumblers ? I must not mention HS2 or any other land loss! Thanks lovely readers, enjoy your riding on two, three or four wheels (Quads)!
