FROM THE EDITOR'S CHAIR ď Ž By Bob Twigg
Is the Spring really here? It was nice to see three bikes for sale at Bonhams auctions in TMX recently. Bud Ekins 650 Triumph, a 16 mc AJS and an ISDT Royal Enfield, (or should I have said "oil Enfield", mine certainly was ). The AJ and the Enfield had the throttle cables extending "gracefully" out of the twistgrip in a vertical manner. Some years ago I was in a queue at a section and when I attempted to move forward I caught the throttle cable of the late Cyril Smith's Suzuki which started some loud revving from his engine. Profuse apologies to Cyril the KK club secretary, we still miss him! Horrid to read of the knee injury to Austin Forkner in an AMA motocross damage to knees are always awful and ligament damage seems to be the worst. On that subject it was nice to see Chris Eckert out at the Nene Valley clubs trial at Cranford Firs. He was there as a "minder" for his two lads who were having fun on their Osets (that's a make of bike Mum)! Chris was a very promising Intermediate rider a few years ago but ligament damage to a knee all but put paid to his trials career, a great shame. It was really good to see that TSM columnist Tom Grimshaw has scored in both of the two National Motocross rounds he has ridden in. He is of course the son of "nice guy" Dave and comes from a popular bike family. His uncle Steve is a regular rider and his late grandfather John was a well known face in motocross and trials. Another son from a famous family Tom Knight was talking in TMX about his introduction to super enduros , he is heading for fame like his Dad Juan and his uncle Dave. Tom has coped with a lot to get where he is well done! Observers, or a lack of them is the story lately, It is very difficult for clubs to find them on the day, asking round the car park can be an agonising task and sometimes fruitless. It is the C of C's job really but the trial sec; often takes on the task , not very good at the last minute that! I rode in a trial a few years ago where the observers were paid ÂŁ 10 to observe. Although this solved the problem there were some funny scores there. Some riders lost a four in one attempt and one observer counted the number of times a rider had footed "I'll give you fourteen at that attempt sir!" I think one of the best things that have happened to trials in the past few years is the appearance of the "burger van". A free burger and a drink are very welcome to all who observed or helped with the event.

This is especially so if it has been a wet or cold day. If clubs lack the facility it might be worth contacting a local van, very often they will have a spot in a lay by or on a trading estate during the week, go on ask them.

The Women's World Relay has passed through Europe and is now on it's way out to the Far East. Tremendous support has been shown. 3

Kent Kings Speedway ď Ž By Neil Emmott Photo by Amanda Morrison Kent lost their first home meeting in May against a Lakeside Hammer select side. The meeting was cut short following a crash involving
Alex Spooner which meant the meeting only managed to get to heat 13 before the 6pm curfew brought a close to the event. The Kings were 35 - 3.6 down when the curfew kicked in and denied the fans of an exciting final few heats.
