FROM THE EDITOR'S CHAIR n By Bob Twigg

A Happy New Year 2019 is upon us, let's all have a nice injury free season on two and three wheels. Interesting to see that the Scottish six day and pre 65 entries are up on previous years. Five hundred and one "hopefuls" have applied for the six days, they are no doubt biting their fingernails hoping the ballot will go their way as only two hundred and eighty will get in. Three hundred and four pre 65'ers are hoping for a place in the entry as two hundred is the max' in that class. In Trials and Motocross News (and in this issue) the Southern centre have publicised the details of their centre championships. They plan to run the series of nine rounds between April and November. It will be run under TSR 22a, stop permitted rules. Digressing somewhat, I remember being clerk of the course at one of our club trials when stop permitted was the rule and waiting for riders to finish at the last group of sections so that I could remove the section marking. It was quite frustrating to see people giving advice to riders " left for three inches, mind that tree root" etc.. The time taken to run events in those days meant you could be taking sections down when it was dark, aargh! The Southern series will have fifteen sections and three laps, let's hope they can get observers, a bold decision. I know lots of readers will remember the rubber welly boots that we used to wear before we could afford the nice leather boots that we have today. At a trial in Wales a rider I knew hit his toe on a rock and the steel toecap bent back over his foot, quite nasty! That same rider borrowed a bike to ride, a quite nice Bultaco, but when he bounced off a rock the prop stand got bent and was touching the spokes. Unaware, he carried on until the stand took all the spokes out of the back wheel, an expensive business that! Borrowed bikes do get damaged our son had a little "wobble" on a Fantic once and promptly broke the nearly new back mudguard, more expense and profuse apologies to the owner that day. Having lapsed into all our yesterdays again, sorry, a Happy New Year to everyone..Â

Nathan Ablitt

Kent Kings Speedway

QQ By Neil Emmott

Ex Mildenhall star and National Trophy winner Jordan Jenkins has become a new signing for the Kings 2019 assault on National League honours. 15 Year old Nathan Ablitt is to debut his National League [NL] season with the Kings in 2019. Remarkably the youngster from Battle in Sussex has 10 years’ experience on a Speedway bike! Turning 15 in March allows Ablitt to start his NL racing career at his earliest opportunity with the Speedway

cycle otor t M New p in Ken Sho

season at Central Park Stadium opening in April at Easter. Drew Kemp has become the final signing for the Kings for 2019 and will wear the number one race jacket in the 2019 lineup. The 16-yearold former Mildenhall rider the was unquestionably the star of the 2018 season. Kent Speedway fans have appointed Ben "Tea boy" Clifton as their representative on the new National Supporters Group (NSG). The NSG is an exciting new initiative being launched this year by the

sport's governing body, the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). The idea for the NSG came out of the 2018 BSPA Annual General Meeting. The BSPA believe greater supporter engagement is vital to the future of Speedway in this the 90th year of League racing in the UK. Kent Kings opening meeting for 2019 will be held on Easter Bank Holiday Monday April 22 starting at 6:30 pm. The opponents for the season opener will be Belle Vue.Â
