FROM THE EDITOR'S CHAIR n By Bob Twigg

September "rambles"! In July I was very pleased to attend the KIA championship round run by the Nene Valley club at their two off road venues at Glendon and Geddington. The series really is a great boost for many classes of bikes and riders. Competitors were faced with a long ride round the two venues which are linked by a nice ride through a forest. Many Fantics, SWM's some nice TLR's and a Mecatechno (with "proper" wheels)! Ex centre champ Richard Allen out on an Aprilia for a change. Who remembers Ian Wetherill helping run a trials training session at Milton Buzzards Bleak Hall? Ian rode an Aprilia in those "far off days" doing very well in Nationals. Incidentally, the Buzzards lost Bleak Hall as the council had plans for it, but as far as I know nothing has happened there, who does the "planning" at council meetings? However the club has done well with their Mount Farm venue, so well done. On another subject, are many motoring enthusiasts aware of the VNUK thing? A chap working on a farm in Eastern Europe was knocked off his ladder by a tractor and trailer. The insurers would not pay up (unusual that ) as it was on private ground, now the wonderful " Brussels mob" want everything that has an engine to be insured. That means EVERY vehicle and things with an engine will have to be insured. Imagine the cost and the chances of insurers agreeing to insure everything, yes, that does mean lawn mowers too. The UK Government is fighting against it, let's hope common sense prevails. It's good to get a few daft things mentioned here. The latest is that Sammy Miller has plans for an extension to his museum in the New Forest. The extension would not be visible from the nearby road and will be a valuable benefit for all. Another silly coming up… The council have disapproved and rejected the plans. The museum is in a lovely part of the world and really fits in. Sometimes I would love to be invisible and attend a planning committee meeting to hear what is said there. I hope their decision is not final. Yet another "silly thing", Brighton council don't want motors doing anything in their "green city" and the annual sprint along Madeira Drive is in doubt along with other motoring treats. Where do these people come from? I know… let's all live in a cave with a candle for heat and light! Moaning over, please make the most of the rest of your riding year..

Kings in Hurry To Get a New Number One

QQ By Neil Emmott Photos by Elizabeth Leslie Faced with the challenge of finding a new number one following the quickfire double blows of losing Luke Bowen to season-ending injury and Steve Boxall to a racing ban, the Kent Speedway management has got on with the search for a replacement number one in a hurry... Literally, because the new signing announced this afternoon (8th. August) is Kentish racing legend, Paul Hurry. The 43 year old born in Canterbury has done everything Date

in a racing career which dates back to 1991, including six top ten finishes in the British Final and taking the national Under 21 title as well as a rostrum position in the World Longtrack championship and four national or European Grasstrack titles. He's done everything except ride in the League for a club from his home county - but that's all to change with the news that Maidstonebased Hurry has signed on the dotted line and becomes a Kent Kings rider, making his debut in the match against reigning league champions Belle Vue Colts at Central Park Stadium on Monday. Delighted to get his man, Kent co-promoter Len Silver said, "I am pleased to announce that Paul Hurry has agreed to join the Kent Kings as a direct replacement for the banned Steve Boxall. Paul is a very local man, born in Kent and now living on the outskirts of Maidstone. He is, of course, extremely well known in the area as a major force in the

Grass Track Racing scene where he has been highly successful for many years, as well as for his long career in Speedway riding for among others Arena Essex/Lakeside, Eastbourne and the London Lions." Silver went on to say: "I am excited by having such an accomplished rider as Paul in the team and looking forward to seeing him in action on Monday when Belle Vue are the visitors. It's been a long time coming in Paul's outstanding career for him to be able to link up with a club from his own county and both he and all at Kent Speedway are delighted that finally it's happened. We thank his parent club, Lakeside Hammers for whom he rode with distinction for many years including in his comeback season in 2017 for their ready agreement to this move".
