Reading a report after the British Motocross GP at Matterley the organiser put in a plea for more "customers" through the gates in 2019. A great pity that as I heard it was a superb meeting with really good views of all the track. As a pensioner I sometimes think that admission charges seem a bit high, but it is a world class event and since I retired wages seem to have risen! Please support these events folk or we will lose them, I'm not sure that his plea for no other events on the same weekend would work though, a subject I have been involved in this year. Also in TMX there was a nice photo of a girl riding in a ladies MX event with her hair blowing out behind her in swathes (oh those lovely days when we had long hair, boo hoo). Of course it's great to see youngsters blessed with flowing locks riding BUT, the rules say hair should be tucked in your clothing. I have seen some nasty accidents at motocross but the thought of having your hair trapped in the chain or wheels is horrifying. I see that many of the constructors have announced their 2019 bikes already, nice to see except if you've just purchased a 2018 model. Betas 200 enduro weapon now has electric start, I would have liked that on my Beta a few years ago, it might have saved a few "fives"! It was great to see Richard Allen winning the Blue Bar trial in Yorkshire, many South Midland riders used to go there, it was a really nice weekend away, not just for the beer! The late Cyril Smith of the Kenton and Kingsbury club encouraged us to go there and it was a nice bit of advice, thanks Cyril! Richard, by the way has been South Midland expert champion five times starting in the 90's, so it is good to see he has still got it where it counts following his rides in Scotland on Mick Parkes Ariel. By the time you read this the Joint Berkhamsted, KK and HUX "tough ten" trial will have taken place, a lot of hard work put in by many dedicated folk, well done all. There was a class entry last year with some very experienced pilots on show. If you missed it this year please go next year, it's worth it. It was lovely to receive the donation of £1.900 from the North East London Motor Cycle Club in support of Mark Kemp's incredible fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust. Please pass on our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to
improving the quality of life and chances of survival for the seven young people aged between 13 and 24 diagnosed with cancer every day. We have unique partnership with the NHS embedding vital services with NHS hospitals complementing and significantly extending the care and support young people with cancer receive. We have made huge progress in making sure that young people with cancer have the best treatment , care and support but there is much more to do.
